I have a Smith's grocery store where I live an I have found the ONLY Greek yogurt I can tolerate is the store brand Kroger Greek Light, they have plain, vanilla and flavored with small chunks of fruit in it. It's lower in sugar than alot out there. I have tried all the "name brands" and can't stand them. Good luck in your search

Thanks Amy and Suzanne for the words of encouragement. I think I've just had so many jerk boyfriends that are always trying to force me to lose weight, I have a hard time believing that someone can like me just the way I am physically (even though we've been seeing eachother for 2 years!). But, I do want to be hot and sexy for him even so! But, here is a little mini victory. I wore my fitbit yesterday and walked 11,000 steps (equals a little over 5 miles). I took a walk in the morning and, when I saw I was still off by a few thousand steps of my goal (goal is 10k steps), went out for a second walk last night. I think that will be the plan for right now, curb my calories and take a morning and evening walk. Yesterday I ate 1500 calories. I am trying to get down to 1200 a day. This morning I got on the scale and saw I had lost a few pounds. I'm not sure how that is possible, maybe losing Water weight or something. But, it was good to see it anyway. And, I have gotten up at 7:00 am for two days in a row. I'm hoping I can keep getting up at the same time from here on out. Maybe my CPAP struggles are almost over? When I go in to get a fill, I will only have liquids, Soup, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese or yogurt up to a few hours pre-fill. Then, I drink water only in the hour or two until I get the fill. Question: How long after a fill do you stay on liquids and soft and mushies? My band doc said liquids for the rest of the day and soft and mushies for the day after, then back to normal. But, I have noticed on youtube on the Banded Wendy videos that her doctor keeps her on liquids and soft and mushies for two weeks post fill. As for weighing on the scale. I am kind of obsessive about it! I weigh in first thing in the morning in the nude before I have had food/after going to the bathroom. I usually weigh in at the end of the day too in my pjs, at which point I'm usually 2 lbs heavier. If I don't pay close attention to the scale I gain. In fact, the idea of not weighing myself for a week makes me feel nervous! It will be nice to feel free of the scale one day. -
How can any stand the taste of greek yogurt?
sleevesearch replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hated greek yogurt (and barely could tolerate regular yogurt) pre - surgery. Now I love greek yogurt! I buy plain and mix in my own sweetners (splenda, sugar-free jam, once I tried SF hot chocolate powder) all of it has been pretty good. I also add crushed nuts and/or whey Protein crisps for additional texture. One time I accidently bought full fat greek yogurt, IT WAS SOOOO GOOD, super duper creamy (less tart)! Just didn't like all the fat grams in each serving, something like 23 gr. I have noticed alot of taste bud changes since surgery, all for the better, healthy foods taste and feel better. -

They gave it to me in the hosp day after surgery and I couldnt handle it... a few days later I actually like it. I eat the Fage 0% plain, and it doesn't bother me that much. Then again, I am 13 days post op and just rotate cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and baby food meats. If it works, I just dont mess with it. -
How can any stand the taste of greek yogurt?
Stacy160 replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The yogurt that tastes so wonderful right out of the container has already been flavored and sweetened...ya know? ANY plain yogurt tastes disgusting, whether it's Greek or not. On the other hand, it makes a fantastic substitute for sour cream! Try adding some sweetener and flavoring (I like to just use vanilla and Splenda or Truvia). -
Hi I've had a tiny few bites of mashed potatoes but they were very filling with no nutritional value! I haven't had anything bother me yet I add a little milk and cheese to my eggs and can now eat one egg but it is sooo filling! Have you tried avocado yet? I just got approved for soft foods like cheese eggs yogurt soy and skim milk but your right it's hard to mix when you can't eat very much of portions! I hope your able to enjoy those small amount of foods I'm still struggling with my protein as any protein shake makes me nautious and get sick! I'm worried about hair loss without the protein! I just started my vitamins are you taking the multi vitamin with calcium and iron?

I started my chewable vitamins on Monday. I get them from the doctor and they include everything I need except I need to supplement with extra Vitamin D. I'll start on soft foods this Sunday. It will be nice not to have to blend everything. That gets old. I've got some unflavored protein powder and I mix that in with sugar free pudding or in yogurt, etc. It doesn't change the flavor that much and it's a way to get it in. You could mix it into soup also. The Pure Protein drinks are good too. I like the chocolate. You can get them from Sams or Costco and I think even some of the grocery stores and pharmacies sell them in smaller packs. -

Hi Fellow Bandsters, I've been absent for about a week. Here is an update. I've been working very hard on wearing my CPAP. I am getting about 3 to 6 hours of sleep a night with it. I'd like to get to where I've got in on for 7-8 hours a night. At first it was really uncomfortable and the air was too cold. But, I did a little googling and figured out how to adjust the humidity/heat setting on it. Since then it has been significantly more comfortable. Last night I put it on and fell asleep. Then at 3:30 am, I was woken up by my cat and realized that I didn't have it on. I'd taken it off and even turned off the machine in my sleep! What the heck!!! Additionally, I've had a really bad migraine for the first few days of this week. One of the ways that I can reduce my pain is to drink lots of caffeine. Well, caffeine might work well for my migraines, but it doesn't work well for me to try to regulate my sleep cycle. My sleep schedule has been a mess this week because of it. In fact, my whole body seems to be revolting on me. This migraine week has been rough. So, basically, I'm trying to focus on getting out of pain (migraine stuff) which, today feels much better, and wearing the CPAP. Another thing I've been really making effort on is eating Breakfast and trying to eat a majority of my food during the day rather than at night. It is going okay. I've been having breakfast within 1-1.5 hours of waking up. I am finding that since I've been doing breakfast, I am more likely to eat every few hours during the day and then not really be as interested in food at night. Maybe my doctor does know what he is talking about! As for my weight, I have gained a few pounds over the past two weeks. Grrrr! Well, I'm a work in progress. I'm trying and that is what matters to me right now. One other thing I want to update on is that I quit Weight Watchers. I was dutifully tracking all of my points on the WW website. But, since my band doc says I need to track my Protein and calories, I was also tracking protein and calories on myfitnesspal. WW doesn't show you how much protein you are consuming, only points. It was frustrating because I was double tracking. And I thought, why am I paying $43 a month to track points and go to meetings. I actually love the meetings, I think they are awesome, but the meetings don't focus on band nutrition. And, right now I'm really trying to focus on my band doc's suggestions. So, I quit weight watchers for now. Who knows, I may go back to it later. As for Protein drinks, I don't have one every day. I do have two on hand that I like in case I need them. One is Primal Fuel vanilla, and the other is Syntrax nectar Cappucciono. I enjoy both of them, although I Water the Cappuccino one down a lot because it is so outrageously sweet (a little less splenda in the mix would be appreciated). But, for breakfast, I am having some combination of 2% cottage cheese, 2% greek yogurt, 1% milk, reduced-fat cheese, and split pea or bean Soup that adds up to 300 calories and 20 grams of protein. This morning I almost went straight for chicken, but I was afraid my band wouldn't like solid protein that early in the day. So, I ate 3 bites of weight watcher mac n' cheese, a chobani greek yogurt, and a bowl of Pasta fazool bean soup with a tablespoon fo fat-free sour cream. Odd breakfast, but it works for me. 372 calories, 23 grams protein. Hugs, Hilary -

hi everyone hows it going me im ok. just taking it one day at a time. so here is were i am. have been doing alot of reading and one think or two keeps sticking in my head. these things 1. you are only guranteed to fail if you never try. 2. you'll be shocked how much you can accomplish if you believe in yourself. attitude = like 80% to 90% of your success. this is so true, its hard losing weight when you have found a safe place in food as we all have. we have stepped out on faith with this band. and we should be ever so proud of how far we have came. be proud of every inch and every pound as its getting us closer to the finish line:thumbup:. i was watching the tyra banks show last nite and i was blew away how cold some people can be toward fat people. trueth is no i wasn't i see it everyday i have lost and im happy with it as i remember where i was last year. and i have to keep remembering that and not let anyone steal my joy as i have worked my a$$ off to get here. and its hard some days hell ya and it will but, here the motivation life, to just be able to play with the kids and not have to rest afterwards, to be med free, and to shop in the skinny girl store. i can taste that like cheese cake honey:biggrin:. and most of all the walk in public and not be judged as being fat and lazy in which most are not. hell if the biggest loser can do it hell we can and will to. josiebies maybe this will help you some if we all tell what motivated us to get the band. i will go first. all the above reasons but most of all i was scared that one day i was gonna go to sleep and die in my sleep and my baby would find me. that though just sticks in my head. and that is my i did some thing about it. how can i tell them to eat healthy and im over here doing it all wrong they are young so i have to get it right now. kids learn by exsample and that is not one i want to pass on. this world is eveil to over weight people and i never want my kids to experience that. sorry for the drawn out speech. any ways here is what i eat. 10/14 2c grits w/cheese 2slices of deli roast beef 1/2c yogurt w/nuts 1sm slice of lb. cake 2med. cof, splenda, cream 10/13 4shrimps 1oz pepper j cheese 3mini pancakes w/syrup fish w/grits cup of coco 40oz c.lite 6mini rice cakes 10/12 17oz muscle milk 1oz jerkey 6oz shrimp w/mushrms 1.5c salad w/out lettuce 1/4c sunlower seeds. -
Ya.... if you don't follow the rules, you will have a hard time being successful! Protien really does help fill you up and keep you full, When you get hungry and snack between meals... snack on protien like cheese, or greek yogurt or turkey etc.

Ok... which Grocers do you find this Fage? I've never seen it before, and I'd like to try it. I'm out of Greek Yogurt and I'd really like the 2% plain so that I can add my flavors myself next time. -

So sorry I've been out for a bit. My husband and I do travel-related stuff, and we took a group of students from my university on a post-graduation cruise. It was a blast--the kids were fantastic, very nice, very mature, and the trip was wonderful start to finish. BEST NEWS: Despite drinking more than I usually do (I probably had 2 fruity rum drinks a day plus a glass of wine with dinner) and eating dessert every evening (chocolate melting cake--yes, with ice cream), I got back on the scale this morning and celebrated that I am exactly the same weight as before we left. Yep. No gain. No loss, either, which I didn't really expect--I think everything balanced out, since we did a LOT of walking and running around, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and I actually did use the ship's gym and walking track a couple of times. I had no trouble finding food that was appropriate for me and my still-picky sleeve. I discovered that I still could not tolerate prime rib or pork roast (had bites off my husband's plate to check), but sleevie LOVED most of the seafood options. Also really, really loved the wok-cooked vegetables available at every lunch--you select your own veggies and they add meat (I just did veggies) and sauce and cook quickly in a wok--fresh and delicious and very good for me! I ate fruit and hard-boiled egg whites for Breakfast, frozen yogurt or soft-serve ice cream as a snack, some peanuts, veggies for lunch with a couple of thin slices of cheese, and the dining room dinner (appetizer, usually Soup for me; entree, usually seafood or vegetarian; and dessert, always chocolate melting cake for me!). It was easy, delicious, and I felt GREAT during the trip--not stuffed or uncomfortable. I will say that the plate/bowl size was incredibly large, even by American standards--they held a ridiculous amount of food. And the serving utensils were designed to give out big glops of food--even things like sour cream were self-serve with these HUGE serving spoons. salad dressings were provided in squeeze bottles that had really wide-spout tops--designed for fast service, but the end result is that people poured on HUGE amounts of these things really easily. And I noticed that in fact, you could correlate the food choices to the body type of people eating them--thin people of every age ate fruit, veggies, and a modest amount of heavier Protein food; heavier people ate really big portions, fattier foods, and several different Desserts at a single meal (it's an all-you-can-eat buffet at every meal on board). It was really kind of eye-opening, having so recently been in the "other camp," as it were. My sleeve has made it possible for me to see/smell/be around food and NOT WANT IT. This would never have been the case before. I would definitely have overindulged, and if I didn't, I would have felt like I was missing out on something. We went to a "midnight Mexican buffet," and I had--NOTHING. Nothing looked good enough to eat just because it was there. It was kind of strange--I noticed into the second or third day that I wasn't even thinking about food--I was just enjoying the activities and the company. :-) Normal relationship with food, maybe?? is it possible? -
Just checking in. I stocked up on yogurt and fresh fruit. Also bought EAS protein shakes. Made it two days without snacking. Taking it one day at a tme. Its been raining like crazy and I haven't gotten any walking in. Live out in the country and have no malls for walking. Does anyone have any cheap ideas fir indoor fitness? Going to take one day at a time and hope for the best.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I am 5 days post-op. I had to do a 7 day full liquid diet which was hell for me. Full liquid consist of the following: *broth Soups *Cream Based Soups *Protein Powder/Shakes (muscle milk, carnation, slimfast, etc) My surgeon and dietitian required the shakes to be at least 20 grams of protien and 180 calories or less. *sugar-free Yogurt/Pudding * 100% fruit juice *Water *Crystal light juice Good luck!

Omg me too! Lol. I NEVER ate yogurt before, but it DOES taste good now! Hahah. Too bad I still can't get any of the real good flavor I want (raspberry, strawberry, etc). Never thought pureed Progresso Soup would be good either.

I agree…this experience and others in the past when I’ve done MediFast, day 3 seems easier than the first 2 days. I think that is partly because carbohydrates make one want MORE carbohydrates. Eliminate the carbs, and I find that much if not all of my hunger goes away. Today is day 3 for me. 2 shakes and a small leafy green salad with some protein. A Greek yogurt if I need a snack. I’m way under 1000 calories. And I’m fine. I’ve dropped 1/2 lb…I know I am a slow loser. But my students today were telling me that I look like I am losing weight. 🤷🏻♀️ what can I say? -

Oh yeah, i can have that stuff too- minus the creamy soups. But I dont have any desire to have jello or yogurt to be honest. I will save that for after. SF Popsicle too but it's cold as hell here....so I don't want anything cold. At least you only have to do a week -
Swallow/leak test: I didn't have obe
trekker954 replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was at Cleveland Clinic and they do not do a swallow test either (even though its mentioned in their handbook). I was thrilled. Water is a big issue for many patients. I too use to drink lots of water pre surgery. Bottled and/or from my faucet. I also did a lot of research. One wonders how can water be difficult to drink after surgery. But it was for me as well. Regardless warm, hot, cold or room temp. It just sat in my chest. Even the smallest sip. What I read and is true for me, you need to soften it with something, anything. Cyrstal light, ice tea, warm tea. When I do this, and I rarely use an entire packet I can drink my water just fine. I spoke with my nutritionist yesterday and she said, if I want just plain water, to try distilled water and I will find that easy to drink. Either way, she said, I will eventually be able to drink plain water again as I did pre surgery. I didn't ask her how long. I had an early appointment yesterday and since it was really my first day out on my own, I decided to run a bunch of errands. Its amazing how easy life interferes. By the time I got home at 1 pm. (I left at 8), I realized all I had drank was one 16 ou bottle of water (with crystal light). I thought about stopping and picking up water, but I knew its too hard to drink now. Here it was 1 pm. and I was far far behind on my Protein and water intake. My NUT cleared me for yogurt, but I didn't want to chance trying that on the road. By the end of the day, I just was kind of quesy so passed on introducing yogurt or cottage cheese into my day. I know this is a full time job now to stay on top of my liquids and protein. -
How did you do for Holiday Eating?
lauramomof3 replied to shutterbug's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
well here is what i had 3 weeks out today: no breakfast really-1/2 cont. yogurt with fruit for lunch: 2 oz turkey, 1 table squash cass, 1 table green Beans, 1 table homemade cornbread dressing-my moms! so good, 1 table butter beans, 1 table pea salad, 1 table copperpennies. couldn't finish all of this but did have it on my plate. ate all of the turkey and dressing. have beat myself up over this. but like someone else said compared to what i have eaten of all the christmas dinners past this is remarkable!! we have gone from plate fulls to little bird portions. for supper: a 1 egg veggie omelet and only are half. also had sf chocolate pudding with sf cool whip on it. that tasted so good. also a few bites of cornbread dressing again. that stuff goes down so good. wish i could find something with low carbs like that! it is mushy is why. but i know it is loaded with carbs cause of cornbread!! -

I too have a 40f. I didn't suffer with nausea post-op and was getting in 20 oz of fluids on day 2. By day 5 I was up to 64 oz of water and herbal tea. I can drink 16 oz of warm tea in just a few minutes. Everything goes down easily. I get full quickly on dense foods like yogurt. Tomorrow is my two week mark and I'm down 13 pounds. I love my 40f! -

find some soups that you like now, and save for phase 2. i was Clear liquids only for 3 days then went to full liquids which includes strained soups, cream soups, yogurt, pudding. since every program is different, it may be hard to make recommendations. i wish somebody had told me to get some phase 2 soups so i wouldn't have had to venture out to the store 4 days post op with a drain and feeling tired to get stuff. however NOW, 13 days post i feel awesome and looking for reasons to go out! if you are clear liquids only for 2 whole weeks, i would recommend you MAKE some chicken stock, beef stock and veg stock that you like. i couldn't find any chicken broths i cared for so i made my own right before surgery so i would have it.
