Really struggling- lap band to sleeve
meressa replied to MissChelle's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m so sorry. I went through this too but I didn’t have the lap band. but your surgeon should have told you the sleeve only makes the reflux worse. My surgeon did and suggested a revision to bypass instead because of my severe GERD. -
Independence Day Challenge

Today is the first day I can test my "fill". The revision went great on Friday. So far I have just maintained - that's for the last two weeks. I go back to Dr. B. on 6/24 for my post-surgery follow-up. I'm hoping he will do a fill then if I need it. My stomach has been making some weird noises this morning! How is everyone else? -
Similar scars to sleeve surgery?
GSleeve822 replied to labradormom21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you - I like it. I do not plan on telling my nosey coworkers WHY I am having surgery. Don't feel like dealing with the know it alls that feel the need to give their "just diet and work out" advise that works for them to get their extra 5-10# off. One of my other coworkers recently was sleeved and lost over 100# between the surgery and doing his part by being in the gym first thing every morning working out. "If he would have just gone to the gym every day, he wouldn't have needed the surgery." I told one of them the other day to go carry 100# of weights as they run on the treadmill and let me know how "easy" it is for them. They just don't get it and I don't care to involve them in any part of my journey. I already had my gall bladder removed and had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of my initial lapband procedure (now going for revision to the sleeve). I have reflux issues, so I just read that I can blame that on fibroid tumors that will have to be surgically removed when the peanut gallery sticks their nose in. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App I had fibroid issues in the past and had laporoscopic (sp?) surgery about 10 years ago. I am also using that excuse for myself at work. the scars are higher for the sleeve than the fibroid but I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm more concerned about the excuse of being sore... still haven't quite figured out how to explain the rapid weight loss but they do know I've been on the liquid diet do hopefully it won't look too suspicious Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
The Journey Continues, OR, Third Time's the Charm
BayougirlMrsS replied to Machalo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
no problem Mac..... Have you been approved Yet? Reason i'm asking..... most insurance requires 35 BMI with 2 co morbids. When i had my band in 2009 it was the requirement. ORRR 40 BMI which is where i was. 5'2" and 232lbs. This time i didn't have to because i was still considered a revision even though my band was removed 2.5+ years ago. My bmi this time was 31. SW 173.5..... Today, 145.2 Fk yes.... Back to you.... if you have not be approved yet, you may want to lay off the dieting. Some insurance with not approve you if they see a weight loss. My dr. advised me to not lose anything till i got the final approval. Did you go watch the youtube vids...??? I've been in the WLS community for over 10 years and he is 100% right with everything he says..... no sugar coating with him at all. -
I am also a band-to-bypass revision patient and my first month was very slow. I stalled early on and the stall lasted a couple of weeks, but once I was able to eat actual food I started losing weight. I am now 4 months out and have lost about 55 pounds since surgery. Weight loss for me has definitely been slower than it was early on with the band, but I feel soooo much better with bypass than I did with the band and I am down 71 pounds from my highest weight (in December at band removal), so bypass is definitely working for me. Hang in there. The first month is not an indicator of how things will go for you moving forward. Your body is still adjusting to the major shock from this surgery and you are pretty much just trying to meet Protein requirements and getting your Fluid in at this point. Once you are on a good eating and exercise regimen you will lose. It's very disheartening to not see the scale move when you are expecting it to, but it WILL move, believe me. Congratulations on taking this step toward your future health. There are a lot of us who have converted and I am seeing many, many success stories with revision on this forum. I expect you are going to be another one!

I just thought I would start a December 2010 page! I am having my sleeve on December 20, 2010 in Houston, TX with Dr. Nowzaradan. My surgery is a revision from lapband to the sleeve. Please share your date so we can support each other as our special day approaches. Thanks!

Havent had the sleeve yet but had a lapband and a revision plus multiple other surgeries. Drink a lot of water ahead of time; take a stool softener as soon as your DR allows. That's the best advice you will need:)

While I found my surgery buddy here, you can also post in the Bariatric Pal Team MX Facebook group if you are looking for someone to buddy up with. You are still in good hands even if you have to go it alone, and they will attend to your every need while you are there, but it is nice to have someone to go through the experience with you. Hi Ms. SHerry , how are you feeling i see its been about 2 months now? Im so excited and nervous at the same time so you can imagine how my tummy feels. i'm flying to Mexico by myself i didn't want to post that publicly . i hope i didn't in the midst of my excitement. lolol can you give me an update are you in pain did you experience anything that required a visit to doctor or hospital when you came back home. i was reading i think MOEJOE said that she found a doctor that will see her for aftercare if need be . well i asked my doctors coordinator if he will because he did my lapband 10 years ago and SHE said he doesn't see patients that had surgery in MEXICO. did you have one or need one. my primary care know im getting procedure done (revision) but i have not told her that im going to mexico now. should i ? Thanks for posting information up i have found this forum to be the most helpful i want to stay away from negative thinking people because reality is anything can happen anywhere. Right ? you can reply pm some pm things i like to keep the forum for fun.. im flying from NY and i havent seen anyone from there coming on the 15th if you know of any please let me know. actually my surgery is the 15th im flying in on the 14th i couldn't find a flight to get me in san diego by 11:00 am that would allow me to have the surgery as soon as i got off plane. so bill is going to put me up in a hotel close by that i can pay as a little as 65 dollars for that day and he would pick me up first thing in the morning for surgery. Is Dr. Illan as young as he looks or is that an old picture. did you feel safe at all times did you go shopping one lady showed MK bags ohhhh i want one too lolol ok any information i appreciate. thank you -
I hate to be the one to tell you this but if you have band erosion, your band will have to come out and you won't be able to get another one. I strongly suggest taking it out sooner rather than later before it causes any more damage. It won't stop eroding and will only get worse. Your surgeon will likely advise you to wait at least 6 months for your stomach to heal - depends on the damage done - before getting a revision to RNY or VSG, or try to go it on your own. My surgeon made me wait a year and by then my insurance no longer covered any bariatrics. I was banded in Oct 2007 and my band had completely eroded into my stomach by year 4. It was removed Sep 2011. My surgeon suspected erosion year 2 but took a wait and see approach. 2 years later I ended up in the hospital for 10 days and nearly died. By then the band had completely eroded into my stomach. There are a few reasons why erosion happens but most of the time, it's nothing you did wrong. Your body is likely rejecting the foreign object in your body. They say it happens in 2% of band patients but I think that statistic is old and a lot higher now.

Hi everyone! Today marks one year since I got my lap band revised to gastric bypass. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far. 275 to 188. I am 5'5" so I still have about 30-35 lbs I'd like to lose. I was very discouraged a few months ago, but I left my pity party behind and made sure I was sticking to eating well. This is not always easy! I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon in late August. I have some sagging skin on my stomach, inner thighs, and arms but nothing too horrible. Also of note, I have PCOS, which always made it harder to lose. The surgery has definitely helped with this and it seems to get easier to lose weight the more weight I lose. It seems counter-intuitive but I think the insulin resistance that often comes with PCOS has abated. I'll attach a before and after pic. Picture 1-I'm on the right holding my new nephew last June. Picture 2-selfie! Picture 3-me in the middle. I posted this on purpose so you can see that I will definitely need a tummy tuck.

Gastric band to VSG 5/20/21
endzone replied to KW3672's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision yesterday from lap band (2014) to mini gastric bypass....lots of trapped gas and pain still .....very uncomfortable! -
I have the lapband. My band is no good so I’m going to get the sleeve. My doctors office calls my insurance and my insurance tells them all the requirements to have the revision to the sleeve. I go through 6 months of insurance requirements and now we submitted it to insurance and they are saying it’s not covered through my insurance plan. My doctors office has the codes and requirements they said I needed and now in my plan it says it’s not covered! I’m furious! Why did they give the codes and requirements and also cover the 6 months of requirements if it’s not covered! We are appealing it. Then if that doesn’t work I’m going to talk to a lawyer about what to do if they deny it again. Anyone have any advice? I just can’t believe they would say it’s covered and make me jump through hoops then say it’s not part of my plan! Ugh!

Wow, what an inspiration you are! I had to call my daughter over to see your pics. Thank you for posting your story, especially about your decision to be rebanded. Often we only here of the people who had slips and decide to revise to something else. Thanks again! -
26 months ago, June 3, 2009 was my date for band to VSG revision. I had the band placed October 2008, and had been researching, reading, absorbing everything I could since early 2007.

Cigna OAP require 3 or 6 month for approval
LSF replied to JacobsMommy's topic in Insurance & Financing
I don't understand why we would have to go through it all for revision surgery. We all went through it the first time..... -
Well I survived a 3 hour revision surgery and feel like my inners may come out-but I haven't had heartburn or burping everything up. Time will heal-my worst fear was to lose the band toatlly and I didn't do that, so I'm happy once I feel better that is. Small sips and pain medication are my friends right now!

Good evening everyone just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Doreen I'm 57 and was banded May 4th of 2011. I was 239 when I was approved for the band and 229 the day I was banded. I now weigh 206 . I was 197 at my lightest but my band was giving me trouble so they took out 1/2 cc and I gained 8 lbs back and can't shake it. Saw my surgeon and talked to her about a revision. She agreed and wanted to do the sleeve but the results could be about the same as the band 30 to 60% of weight loss, not from where i am now but from where i started at 239 so I told her I wanted the bypass and she was fine with that. I got my blood work and upper GI in one visit then the nutritious and physic in one visit. All in one week then they put the paperwork in to my insurance co and I was approved in 3 weeks. She called me yesterday 9/11 and wanted to schedule it for the 16th (in 2 weeks). Unfortunately I have so much going on this month and next I had to schedule it for November 4th. I wish I could have it in 2 weeks. I'm excited and nervous all together.

Under 50 lbs to lose - would you recommend the sleeve (after band removal)
certifiedcoder replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can relate to your journey. I had my band in 2005 and a revision in 2009. I also have a dilated pouch and esophogus inflamation. I am scheduled for a revision to the gastric sleeve in 11 days! I am so excited. My band has been opened and refilled an now completly opened after my pre surgical Endoscopy which showed all the damage. I have gained 20 pounds in 4 months and it is killing me. I sustained 100 lb weight loss all these years and instantly - BAM I am gaining! I am very encouraged by the posts and reviews I see from people who have converted. Seems like a second chance to really reach goal without shutting down to liquids only... I loved when my band was tight. I could barely eat at all and I worked out like a fiend! It is not that I am eating BAD foods now as I mostly eat very clean, I just eat too much! I cant wait, I am counting down the days! -
Revision Surgery; Weight Maintained
ChrissyHeart posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all, After two failed lab bands, I am scheduled to have the band removed and revised to a sleeve. Despite my best efforts, my surgeon insists that I have the band removed, allow 3 months 'rest' time for my stomach then have the sleeve procedure. Has anyone had the same experience and how did you manage/control your weight over that time? I'm terrified I will gain back majority, if not all of the 60lbs I've lost this far in that 3 months. Any story's or tips from fellow banders/ex banders/current sleevers would be appreciated! Cheers -
Band revision with Dr Ariel Ortiz?
Muñekita replied to Muñekita's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ooh my, I'm so sorry you are going through this I've had mine for almost 10 yrs. Never had any complications, till some regurgitation a few months ago. I only got it if I ate anything after 7pm. Got all the liquid out and slowly adding it but in that process I've gained 15lbs. I can't even loose what I gained and have no issues now but want to do a revision :/ -
So, I am 2 weeks post op today and doing okay. Trying to get my 85g of protein in daily but I'm getting to 60s some days if I'm lucky. Water, 64oz. is in a far off galaxy but I am doing my best at about 35 oz. I had a revision sleeve from the original VSG in 2012. I am extremely fortunate to not only have a second chance and get my health back. I lead by example of what not to do as my husband is also having the surgery done later in the year or early next year. I had my first post op visit with the dr.s office yesterday and everything looked great! Surprisingly, she told me my water % looked very good so, I'll take it. I am out on short term since the day of my surgery, July 25th and come to find out this past Monday that I will no longer be employed of my job of almost 9 years. Basically, I am bonded every year because I handle money and every year that bond is renewed. So now enter in my story of why... Last May of 2017, my dog suddenly went limp in his hind legs and needed emergency surgery. French bulldogs are prone to a condition called IVDD or Intervertebral Disk Disease. It is a common cause of back pain, rear limb paralysis, and inability to walk or feel the back legs. Basically, the pressure on his back from the disk was pressing on his nerves that send signals to the brain to control his back leg movement. Without removing that part of the disk, he would be paralyzed. With our minds racing, it was emergency surgery with a 90% success rate or pain management over time to see if he would recover,a 50/50 shot. My mind was made up immediately. My dogs are my world. His emergency surgery was 8k. Crazy to some but to me, I wouldn't have thought twice and would do it again if I had to. My boy was recovering nicely with his medication management and physical therapy at home. I would sit with him and stretch his back legs and use massage like they showed me at the vet. He improved and I am happy to say he is back to himself today! This 8k bill was put on a care creditcard and paid on time for 3 months. After that, I couldn't keep my head above water anymore. I reached out to a debt consolidator and had all of my bills rolled up into one monthly payment. It couldn't have come at a worse time. My son was going to be turning 1 in July and we had a bunch of expenses with him understandably along with some other typical bills that go along with owning a home. This debt wasn't the worse thing in the world but I knew I had do to take action. Fast forward to now. I have faithfully paid my bill every month but took a risk. This consolidation dipped my credit rating. I had forgotton about this. Enter in my job. They do my background check and can't bond me so I can't work for them so here I am. They have a severance package for me along with COBRA if I decided to take it. YEAH THE F *** RIGHT...At 900 bucks for 1 month for just my son and I, yeah, I think i'll pass. My husband is putting us on his for now through his full time job. I am currently seeking employment but it stings knowing I'm getting penalized for making a decision I needed to make. Just gonna keep my head up. That's all I can do. I have my health back, my family and that's all I need..well a job too
