    Quantity of food Fear

I had the bypass and the stomach is even smaller than sleeve. I wanted the restriction. I wanted to not eat for 4ppl and now my life is great and my food bill is cut in half.

Hmmmm. I’m worried. I know I need the revision but I wonder
  3. I’m in NY. they are opening slowly for electives as emergencies. My surgeon didn’t perform anything either... and he is only doing two day this month. I got lucky as I’m an emergency due to be revised and my hernia.

I wonder if I can still lose a little bit now getting bypass since my old “tool” won’t have that restriction feeling. Make sense? I know bypass helps lose weight but hmmm.

Right which is bypass. Do you think revision bypass is the same. Or is that not a thing? Revision just means another procedure?

Nope. I went for lap band and decided on sleeve. Was scared of bypass at the time. This was 2015. I should have done more research I guess. Maybe he didn’t know unsure actually

The surgeon should have told you heart burn GERD is a main component of the sleeve and bypass will most likely be needed to fix it...

Thanks - I don't want weight loss - well maybe another 40-50 lbs, but I want this GERD to be gone as well as the Hernia... it's horrendous today, I can't wait for this to maybe be over. I know the bypass goes thru the intestines, I wanted to do the bypass at first, but decided on the sleeve.. if I knew that I might be acceptable to this horrendous heartburn I would have done it in the beginning.

I've met many ppl who say they didn't lose everything they wanted with the sleeve and it took longer than people on bypass and in my experience this is the first time in my life I've ever lost this much ever and ever got this low on the scale and before surgery every little thing I ate would gain weight and now in maintenance I've had a few treats and it has not affected me weight at all...... The sleeve is really just to limit the volume of food that's about it the bypass rearranges your intestines and changes your metabolism; there's a ton of research to explain the metabolic changes.. I know look skinny and have metabolism of skinny person and I feel amazing!!
  11. Hope all is well Here in Australia in my state we are starting to ease covid-19 restrictions opening some shops this week and cinemas and gyms and restaurants next month but still with social distancing and limits on numbers. I've been well and everyone I know and love is well. Anyway just want to summarise my journey for those who are new. I started my weight loss journey 8.5 months ago at 322lbs and I had roux en y bypass 6.5 months ago. From day one I chose to go cold turkey and cut out all the bad food sugar fat carbs and lived off protein shakes religiously for months. By surgery day I was 257lbs and I've now technically been in maintenance a few weeks and this morning I'm 168lbs most days between 168/170lbs and have been that way for a few weeks; finally starting to feel good about myself that's a total of 154lbs gone. Now when I look in the mirror I do not recognise myself anymore it's amazing to see how small I look now. Everyone in my family is so happy for me because I spent half my life obese and unwell mentally not just physically but now my mental health is improving because I no longer dislike what I see in the mirror; is amazing how much my brain has changed now that I'm healthy and skinny. I've only just started experimenting with food more than past 2 months and have relaxed in the carb counting/calorie counting but still quite aware of my daily intake. i will admit I've had a few treats here and there in the past month but it literally has not affected me weight loss at all.. It's like I have a completely new metabolism.. I love coffee and I feel great mentally and physically and I cannot wait to meet a nice young lady who will appreciate me. I'll be 36 in 11 weeks and I'm feeling better than I have in 20 years I personally think and feel like I'm going to be 26 hehehehehe I've got a few photos to show you guys and I appreciate honest comments from the ladies (it's not easy to take photos & get good angle of myself but I did my best) Thank you. If you have any questions about my bypass or anything feel free to comment or PM. Starting BMI 43.3 current BMI 22.7 Love Mikey xx
  12. I am a 2012 gastric sleeve patient from Mexico. Since June, 2019, I have not been feeling well. Excessive heartburn that Omeprazole will not touch at all. In 2018, I had a hiatal hernia repair and found out in October, 2019 that I have another hiatal hernia and was told it cannot be repaired. I finally met with another surgeon and she discovered I have an angulation in my sleeve. I have noticed since I have started to become extremely sick that I have severe constipation, which I have never experienced with the sleeve. I am now drinking smooth move tea every night which has worked wonders for me, but now the past two mornings I am experiencing these very painful cramps and I am gassy all of the time. I noticed when I would not have BM's for days I would bloat up like a blow fish and would be in a lot of pain. I was told I will need a revision to bypass to repair the hernia and the angulation, but due to Covid it is slowing things up a bit. Plus, this new surgeon is making me see the nutritionist and the psychiatrist. I am hoping my insurance covers with no problem for revision since my BMI is only a 30 and they want a 35 with underlying issues. Surgeon said I cannot gain weight due to it will make it more difficult for her to do surgery on me. Anyone on here that has experienced this, what did you do for the constipation, stomach pain and regurgitation until you got relief? Some days the Omeprazole works and other days I am choking and thinking I am having a heart attack.

I have used the vitamin patch since my sleeve 4 years ago, and have continued them since my bypass.

    Vitamins

The mixed berry flavor is the only flavor that tastes good. But they are delicious! I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night after my revision to bypass. No other vitamins needed. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001FY1KAE?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  16. How do you find the bypass compared to the sleeve Without the heartburn issue. I have it and scheduled for 5/27 now for a bypass. Do you feel it better being able to eat etc. where the sleeve had restrictions.

    What’s a RNY Bypass?
  18. Which Vitamins do you use for bypass (revision)!? I bought some on amazon 4m ago as I thought I was having the revision in March But COVID has other plans for me :-(  So I bought Bariatric Fusion - vitamins: chewable and Iron chewable soft chews. Omg. horrendous tasting.  What do you like?  I was thinking of doing Flinstones again like I did with my sleeve. Maybe some gummies.
  19. Thanks!!! I just hope it goes this time! I'm more nervous this time around -- get my hopes up like in March and have the rug pulled out from under me, ya know? to do the liquid right too -- how my body will handle the bypass/revision - unsure if it's considered a full gastric bypass or do they do something different. I need to have my surgical clearance and a COVID test ... Medical clearance this week and next week, probably surgical clearance. Is a revision called a RNY? I better look into it more, I didn't care at the time, due to never knew when it was going to happen.
  20. FINALLY!!! Cross your fingers for me! Had a revision date on 3/18 that was cancelled/postponed on 3/16, then moved to 4/29, which was cancelled/postponed on 3/29, received the phone call today that emergency surgeries, elective, my surgeon was informed he has 2 dates in May he can perform ... So I am scheduled for 5/27, hopefully the Governor won't change things in my state - New York. I have to start my 2 week LIQUID tomorrow, eeeeew and eeeeek! didn't expect this at all.. I'm being revised from Sleeve in 2015 to bypass now. I have been suffering horrendous heartburn and vomitting for a year now - was fine in the beginning, day by day, it's worse and worse - had to double up on my medicine - Protonix - have had so many tests it's ridiculous. I can't take much more - also having an umbilical hernia done too while I'm under ...I don't know what to expect... I hope this works and gets rid of the heartburn ... something has to give!!! I hope they don't cancel on me again... esp after doing another liquid diet. I hope I remember what my liquid diet should be .. Anyone been sleeve to bypass - how did you find it? thanks!!! Hope all is well with everyone!

  22. Hello all! Hoping you can give some advice. I am 5 months post-op from gastric bypass. I regularly meet or exceed my protein and water goals (70 ounces protein and 50 ounces water) and am semi-active, but am still dealing with bad constipation. I was taking miralax daily and that was helping but I had right side pain constantly and when I stopped the miralax the side pain stopped as well. Welllllll- I definitely should have replaced the miralax with something because I landed in the ER today for fecal compaction. I’ve tried smooth move and love it but it gives me stomach cramping when going. Also have tried docusate. My questions for you are: 1. Has anyone experienced right abdominal/side pain with consistently taking miralax? If so- any way to still take it without the pain? 2. Has anyone found success to help have normal bowel movements with anything other than above? I meet with my PCP next week but she is so hesitant to do anything for me or offer any advice I want to go to the appointment with a plan of action. Thank you in advance!
  23. How is everyone doing - I'm supposed to be a revision .. due to GERD, esophagitis and umbilical hernia, even though the hernia isn't probably related to the sleeve and/or the GERD - they are going to do it anyways, as long as I'm under anesthesia, might as well I was supposed to be 3/18, cancelled on 3/17 - due to the state, New York - I was on a liquid for 2 weeks and omg!!!! that was horrendous - I hope they make a decision soon - things are starting to open up upstate NY right now this week .. Today, things opened for them, I'm downstate, Long Island, and it's still a slow and steady slope down in deaths and positive cases.. So, revisions was 3/18, moved to 4/29, cancelled around 4/1 and nothing so far. reached out to the surgery coordinator today and he seems to think it'll open very soon - he's waiting for the okay - I'm phase 3, which is the 1st to get elective surgeries, as emergencies... Some hospitals here aren't Covid, they are regular. One can hope it'll be any day that I get a date... then back to liquid - ick!

    Surgery tomorrow - I’m scared!!

My surgery is also tomorrow and I’m feeling a lot of this too. I’m revising a band to gastric bypass so I feel like, I’ve dive this before, so why the heck am I so nervous?! I think for sure a lot of it is the Covid stuff, and for me it doesn’t help that my family pretty much ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, so I’m feeling sad and sorry for myself today which certainly isn’t the best head space to be in. I hope you will post again after surgery! I’m interested to know how it goes! I know we’ll be just fine and we can compare notes as we heal and get through it!
  25. Hi, everybody... I found this site and decided to start a thread to introduce myself. I'm Dave. Age 66. Five feet, eleven inches and about 250 pounds. I'm in the Houston area. I'm an amateur singer, and I have an ENT doc who treats my voice. He has treated my reflux with proton pump meds for over 20 years. The last time I saw him, I mentioned that I would like to get off those meds. He told me that there is a surgery for reflux (Nissen fundoplication), but that at my weight (about 270 at that time), the surgeon would also want to do weight loss surgery. Then he asked me if I had ever considered weight loss surgery. To be honest, I had never considered it, because when I set my mind to it, I can always lose weight. But I decided to talk to a weight loss surgeon anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? My voice coach recommended a surgeon by the name of Patrick Reardon, who practices in the Houston Medical Center. When I called his office just before Christmas, they were closed, so I went to their web site to request an appointment. A couple days later, I got an email from them suggesting an appointment on the first of April. That seemed good to me. I could get past the annual season of gluttony and try to kick my weight loss program back into action. Due to the global pandemic, though, I didn't get in to see Dr. Reardon until last week. I was pretty satisfied that I had lost 20 pounds, and I honestly thought he would tell me to keep it up for another 6 or 8 months before we talk again. Well, Dr. Reardon wasn't impressed. He said, "How many times has your weight gone up and down, and how many more times do you want to do that?" He also said that the Roux-En-Y bypass, by its very nature, treats reflux, so no Nissen would be necessary. "So let's go," basically. Then he sent in his assistant, Carl, to talk about the logistics, which I'm sure you folks all know: psych consult, dietitian consult, meet with the anesthesia doc, etc. etc. Carl gave me his business card, a printout of the referral for the psych and dietitian appointments, and a 50 page booklet describing what they were going to do to me, and sent me on my way, telling me that if I hurried, we could be doing the surgery by the first week of June. The first half of the book was pretty interesting. I'm an engineer, so I enjoyed all the pretty pictures saying they would snip this way and staple that way, and in the end my innards would look like such and such. Then I got to page 22, where I saw the words "NO SWEETS!" Bold and in all caps, just the way I typed them here. I swear, if they had said "NO SWEETS" on page 2, they wouldn't be selling a lot of surgeries. I think pecan pie is my favorite thing to eat in the whole world, followed by ice cream. And especially pecan pie with ice cream. The brochure also said I would be eating three meals a day with NO SNACKS, and that a meal would fit in the palm of my hand. And, as I'm sure you all recall, it included some graphic details about how my body would rebel against me if I broke the new rules. In spite of all that, I'm seriously considering it. It would be nice not to feel so self-conscious, and to meet long-lost relatives and not have them say, "My... what a big boy you've become." One of my big concerns, though, is whether I would be able to drink enough water to stay properly hydrated for singing. These days, I drink a quart of water with every meal, and more in between. On a long singing day, I drink two gallons of water. I know I wouldn't be able to do that any more. The brochure tells me that 60 ounces per day is recommended, but sometimes people find that much very difficult. Sorry for running on so long, but I like words. Anyway, where I'm at right now is that I'm kind of assuming I will decide to proceed, but the psych folks haven't called me yet and I haven't made the effort to call them either. Any words of wisdom or encouragement would be most welcome. Best regards, Dave
