    Thoughts on revision?

Maybe you should change your post to “Only looking for people to affirm my decision.” Get the revision, do you think that will change your relationship with food? You can’t tell me that you haven’t been eating or have been “sick” when you’ve regained most of your weight...

    Thoughts on revision?

Revision won’t change your eating habits. Maybe look into joining Overeaters Anonymous or go to a Bariatric Surgery Support Group. You’ve had heartburn and other symptoms SINCE the surgery and you are wanting revision 4 years later? That doesn’t sound right. If something was wrong with the surgery you should have gone back to your doctor immediately. You need to face the true issues behind your weight. Even with bypass, you will continue to have problems unless you address them head on.
  3. Had VSG 4 years ago. SW 285. Got down to 215 within 4 months and never lost another pound. My weight would go down 3 lbs and up 2, then stall and restart. My surgeon acted like I was crazy when I talked to him about why I couldn’t lose consistently. Started regain 7 months post-op and now I’m back up to 250. My hunger never left, I was hungry day after surgery. I vomit still when I eat dense or dry foods and therefore sometimes avoid Proteins for carbs to avoid discomfort and vomiting. Acid reflux is awful too. I wish I had bypass instead as I’m nauseous and uncomfortable every day either hungry, heartburn or uncomfortable. Thoughts?

Technically the size of your stomach will be the same (if not smaller) as I understand that the revision from sleeve to bypass is just the re-routing of intestines. That said, *technically* you will have at least the same restriction, if not better. The difference is the pyloric valve. Since the bypass skips this part of the digestive tract, "slider foods" will essentially slide through with the by-pass. So, as long as you keep to dense foods first mantra, you *should* not see much difference in restriction. But like @catwoman7 said above, each person will get a different experience. Congrats on all the weight you've lost, btw...you look great in your profile pic! +1 on this as well. I gained 6 lbs over a couple months (feb-march) and it was not as easy to lose it as it was a year ago. While before it would take 1-2 weeks with little effort, this time around took about a month with dedicated effort. So I can only think that a year, two years, from now it will be even more difficult....
  8. Hello! I had gastric bypass surgery 18 months ago. All was fine until my hypothyroidism turned into Hyperthyroidism, now I can’t seem to stop losing weight. What are some foods I could add that could help either maintain or gain a couple pounds? Thanks!
  9. I've done alot of research and still researching till my surgery. I had the lapband for 6 yrs with a total weightloss of 200 pounds. It slipped this year and had to be removed. So I am doing the gastric sleeve over bypass for many reasons. 1. Less invasive than bypass. 2. One of my best friends had the bypass and had alot of problems and made me promise to never get the bypass. I know I will have success with the sleeve.my surgeon has a great after surgery support program.

    Done and Fun 9 Months

I hear exactly what you're saying mate. I'm only 35 but had alot of health issues prior to surgery. Did alot of parties and alcohol for years myself but gave that up for a new life and 8.5 months later with the bypass completely turned my life around as well.. In maintenance now Well done.
  11. it's sort of a crap shoot - some sleevers have GERD issues, others don't. I went with bypass because I didn't want to take the risk of mine getting worse, but I know some people plow ahead with the sleeve regardless. And some do end up not having issues. Good luck to you!

    Do you miss food?

I'm sick of people putting their noses in your business... Anyway to answer your questions after surgery for months I didn't even crave anything literally I was on shakes for months high protein low carbs and that was it and I never felt like eating until recently but even now at 6.5 months post op some days I still don't eat much at all nor miss food but I will say my intake volume has gone up so eating is more enjoyable but still way less volume than before... I had the bypass and it has completely changed my metabolism now it's like I can't gain weight and have lost over 150lbs in 8 months since I began my pre-op.

    Revision time

I'm not a revision patient, but just wanted to say that as long as you keep on top of taking your vitamins, deficiencies are pretty rare. There are some people whose bodies don't absorb oral iron well who have to get occasional iron infusions, but most of us absorb it just fine. Otherwise, I really don't hear about deficiencies except for people who don't keep on top of their vitamins. I don't think that lack-of-restriction thing is universal. It probably depends on the person.

    Unsupportive Boyfriend

I'm very sorry you have a man like that I feel he's actually getting worried you're going to actually get confidence in yourself. I also had the bypass I was 322 my highest I'm now maintaining around 170lbs and I could not have done it without the bypass and now my metabolism is completely different.
  16. Had RNY BYPASS never had any injections just take multivitamins. I wanted and needed to have my stomach fixed and the bypass has made my metabolism so much better than it was. Yes I lost weight quick which was fine by me been lucky with little excess skin.

    Hate bypass

Well I'm sorry people had issues with their surgery I must be very lucky the bypass has worked wonders for me and I feel like a brand new Man. I had maybe one stall for a week in 8 months and I was able to reach and surpass all my goals the surgeon told me to stop losing weight LoL
  18. Hello everyone, I honestly never do this but I'm beyond desperate and need to see if anyone has in the past or is experiencing what I am. I had gastric sleeve done end of Oct of 2018 and on 2019 I had revision done to bypass. I have suffered from GERD since I was 16 and I am now 44. The reason I mention this is because I had revision done supposedly because my GERD was causing extreme burning sensations im my throat and mouth. Well here it is 7 months after my revision and the sensations and feelings I had are back again at full force and even worse. I honestly do not know of this is even GERD at this point anymore. I am going to try to explain exactly what it is I feel. It feels like my mouth and throat are literally burned and scalded like if you drank something to hot. I also smell a burning smell almost all the time. These feelings progress through my day and get worse and worse as I eat and drink throughout the day. I have noticed chewing gum helps especially the mint type and if I drink it subsides for a little bit but then gets even worse. This contradicts everything about GERD because GERD is supposed to get worse when you chew gum or at least that's what my GI said. Also even if I go to bed like this it doesn't wake me up like you would think with the burning. I know what heartburn feels like dealing with it I was 16 this isn't heartburn. I'm miserable all the time. I cry myself to sleep because no one can figure what is going on. I feel like no doctors understand or believe me. I honestly have no idea what to do at this point. I've tried googling my symptoms and cant seem to find anything. As much as I love the fact that I've lost all this weight I honestly regret it. I want to feel normal again. To not be suffering all day and trying to act like nothing is wrong when I'm in so much pain and discomfort. Please if anyone is experiencing this or has HELP I'm begging.

Preexisting Gerd before and after Sleeve

I can totally relate to your fears. My gerd was so bad presurgery, but bypass was not going to be one of my options. I wanted the sleeve. My heartburn was terrible right after the surgery, the heartburn pills helped tremendously! Then I changed my diet drastically, to mainly plant based. My gerd will flare up if I eat too fast...sometimes that damn tofu scramble just gets me all excited 😆 Also I am very careful to allow about 45 min to an hour before and after my meals before drinking anything. The longer I wait the better off I am. I don’t take any heartburn meds now.
  20. Hi all, I was sleeved 8/9/17 and from the very start I had issues. The first night after surgery I didn't sleep and neither did the lady in the room with me because I coughed all night in a raised position. Little did I know that coughing was a sign of what was to come. GERD !!!! A few days after leaving the hospital I was awoken out of a dead sleep chocking on acid that burned my nose and throat. I was given 3 different PPI before I found one that gave me relief from that part of it. I have had burning for almost 3 years now and have erosive esophagitis Grade D. My revision date has been reset now for May 22 ( 3rd times a charm) I am not happy to be doing this as the sleeve has worked out pretty well for me, although I know it must be done. I am 5 lbs over my original goal weight of 180 after getting down in the 160s this past summer. I would like to lose 25 to 30 lbs and that is about it. I am scared of all the unknowns and after reading the post " I Hate the By pass " it made me think about all the restriction I will be losing. I am also worried about vitamin deficiencies. Anyone out there glad they had the revision ?

    Hate bypass

Hi. I've been reading as many posts as I can for the last two months including this thread and I appreciate all of the insight and opinions. I just popped in to say after a GREAT DEAL of deliberation I have decided on the mini-gastric-bypass over the sleeve. The pros and cons equaled themselves. The final decision was made due to one important distinction. The MGB can be reversed. The Sleeve cannot. You can have surgery to go back to the way you were before WLS. This lightens the weight of "unknown complications causing a lifetime of misery" possibility. Just thought I'd share this.

    Hate bypass

Don't get me wrong but how much weight loss did you expect during this time span? Revisions tend to lose slower. Yes, I can absolutely understand the need to get back down with the weight fast but this is not a matter of weeks as you already know. Expect at least as much time to lose the excess weight this time as you needed before. And tell these toxic family members of yours that your weight and diet is none of their business. Might need a bit of yelling but it's worth it.
  23. The main reason I’m choosing to have the sleeve done is that I’d prefer not to have to change the usual way in which food flows through and is absorbed, in my body. I also think gastric bypass might result in “too much” weight loss for me personally. I’m aiming to lose about 120 lbs. I think the sleeve will get me there just fine. I also wanted to not exhaust the extent of WLS tools outright. If I never actually need a full bypass, why have it?,is the way I thought of it.
  24. As far as intestines, constipation is far more common for bypass and sleeve patients than diarrhea is (diarrhea is more of an issue with DS patients) Not sure why weight loss is slower with revisions, but a lot of revision patients have mentioned it...
