Bananas are NOT a low carb food
Clementine Sky replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've actually used bananas as a replacement for Desserts I ate in the past (rarely ever Oreos, but occasionally), but have them sparingly. For me the biggest benefit is that bananas are more filling and satisfying, whereas I could graze on processed Snacks and not reach the point of being full. For those who do like bananas, this "ice cream" is surprisingly good and simple to make: http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-creamy-ice-cream-with-just-one-ingredient-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-93414 During my active weight loss phase I had either Trader Joe's or Dole's chocolate covered bananas almost every night as my treat. If memory serves they have around 15 carbs per serving. It's not really low carb, but it's not outrageously high in carbs, either. It was just sweet enough to keep me from obsessively craving a brownie or some other indulgence that has thrice the carbs and calories. I think the list the OP provided of lower-carb fruits is definitely good to reference. I love, love, love carbs, and lower-carb fruit smoothies (made with high Protein Greek yogurt) have helped me to have a moderate amount so I'm happy with what I'm eating and happy with the number on the scale. Weight loss on a lower-carb but not strictly low carb diet has been much more sustainable for me. -

Never more than 1/2 cup Also I drink 1 to 1 1/2 Premier Protein shakes through out the day, plus 40 oz of Water I walk 1 mile on the treadmill and do about 10 minutes of various weight machines at the gym daily. -
I'm not a vegetarian, but a huge portion of my Protein comes from non-meat sources, and I can barely tolerate eggs post-sleeve so they're not a consideration. I eat a lot of Beans, regular cheese, cottage and ricotta cheese, yogurt, quinoa and whey-based protein supplements. You'll be great at it!

Beans! So many assortments of Beans split pea is my favorite. You can have Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese too right? I talked to my dietician about all the beans I'd rather eat than meats. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just went shopping. I live alone and don't love to cook so I've been on the lookout for a lot of healthy, clean looking pre-cooked lean Proteins. The easier it is to grab something, portion it out and eat it the less likely I am to make stupid choices. And at 9 weeks out stupid choices more than likely means not eating anything for an entire day or only eating cheese. So here's the lazy single persons list for ya: Fage yogurt Pre cooked Applegate farms grilled chicken breast, plain and fajita flavor Atkins ranch frozen lamb patties (only ingredient is ground lamb, salt and pepper) BratHans chicken burgers (these are quickly becoming a favorite...microwave them for 1 minute) Individually packed 4% Cottage cheese Cold brew coffee Cabot seriously sharp cheese Snacks Babybel cheese Fairlife milk (has extra protein) Electrolyte enhanced Water Saucy Fish Co lime & cilantro pre cooked salmon fillets Turkey perky Jerky And some brie cheese because I'm a sucker for it All of that will last me over 2 weeks pretty much. I also got some pineapple and strawberry today because I want to try and work small amounts of fruit into my daily diet. Total cost today was like $113.

Is a protein bar safe 2.5 months out?
KristenLe replied to fsulady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just need to be careful with certain protein bars - many have added sugars. How about cheese, greek yogurt, adding protein powder to liquids or food, etc. -
I have the same surgery date! My grocery shopping issue is that my tastes keep changing, it's hard to keep up with it! But for now I've been buying lots of greek yogurt, slivered almonds (to put in the yogurt), cheese sticks. make it a great day

As said above don't get caught up on the #'s because it is phenomenal that you've lost so quickly. I had my surgery 6/30 and am down 37 lbs. in that short time I've gone down 3 sizes and can wear clothes I haven't fit into in years. I'm running down my stairs, and can hop out of bed. I'm off all meds except thyroid meds. My joints don't grind, and I know it can only get better from here. food wise, you soon will be cleared to eat whatever you can tolerate. After my doctor said those words I realized he said it for a reason. I asked him if I could eat salads again. He said; yes if you can tolerate it. So far when I go out to eat I order things I love, and eat the Protein first. And find Some things I always enjoyed are flat. Or make me nauseous. No fun it because you eat so little. New things give me my ahh moments. I can't handle ice cream. So I make mini parfait's with yogurt and berries and diced banana. I've spent my whole life fighting obesity. 50 years on this ride is too long. And now I know this is going to work for me. A very small price to pay for these results. Proud of myself for doing this, not in the least bit sorry! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What are the first foods to try in week 4
ShelterDog64 replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your week 4 purees or soft foods? Every plan is different, I was on full food by the end of week 4. Good soft foods: refried Beans with cheese, ricotta with sauce, cottage cheese with pureed fruit, soft scrambled eggs (for most people, not for me), yogurt, softer cheeses. I mixed unflavored Protein into most everything I ate. Like @@amandastearns said, shakes are a good option still at that point, especially if the food choices are complicated and you don't have a lot of time to spend worrying about food. -
What are the first foods to try in week 4
amandastearns replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would honestly prepare to be mostly drinking protein shakes at that point. I was allowed to eat at 3 weeks post op (soft foods) but for the first two months shakes felt the best in my new stomach. I really liked eggs (scrambled or deviled), canned chicken with light mayo, yogurt with flavorless protein. -
I always have Protein before I go to bed. It helps me sleep and also helps keep my blood sugar level during the night. I agree with the shakes, and sometimes I will have an egg or yogurt. (BTW, NEVER chew gum! If you swallow it, you can do some damage they tell me, but also it creates air in your stomach/pouch) I also will drink herbal tea with unflavored Protein Powder in it. I have one of those frothers that helps it dissolve and it makes it so smooth and creamy, And helps me sleep as well.

Hello Out There August 2016 Sleevers!
renewyou replied to Sc7272's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 8/15 too. I have no trouble getting my Protein in but still struggle with Water. I'm slowly coming out of a 2 week Stall. I'm almost done with pureed food ( hallelujah) and to be honest I only pureed to baby food consistency once. I could barely get it down so I went with minced foods. My daily in take went like this, hope it helps Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt 12 g. Protein 1/2c cottage cheese (9-12 grams) 1 protein shake. 30 grams 1/2- 1c chicken tortilla Soup ( Costco) 5-10 grams 1/2c Trader Joes guilt free Chicken salad or good eats chicken salad from costco 14 grams Also, I've baked turkey meat balls and added Swedish meatball sauce or masala sauce. The baked meatball is more tender and easier to brake up with my fork. It goes down pretty well if I eat slowly. Like I said, this is how I get my protein in but I'm not a fast loser. Low carb not working
LisaMergs replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's always a plus! If you want yogurt- try the Oikos Greek Triple zero. I use the Danon Light and Fit- post op bypass here And you don't need a whole container of you're eating with other things. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
4 days post op and I'm worried
rhaya sunshine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe this sounds insane, but I'm worried because I'm having too easy of a time. I'm meeting my protein and water goals with no struggle. Im getting my pills down i can drink all of my shakes. Am i going to over eat because of this? Im drinking 8oz shakes but my "meals" aka yogurt and soup are both 4oz because I'm scared to go above. Everyone i know has struggled and I'm happy I'm not but it makes me feel abnormal, like I'm doing something wrong or something is wrong or maybe my sleeve is too big. opinions? similar experiences -
Clumping and burning - ISOPURE non-flavored Protein
Omieliz replied to Omieliz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said I could use nonfat plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese during this phase (because they turn to a liquid). I've been using them now for abbot 3 days. I mix a scoop of the Isopure powder in with a quarter cup of either, blend it really good, and take tiny little bites. If I start to hurt, I stop and put it away. It takes me about an hour to get through it, but it's not the nasty sweet stuff :-). It's also not very tasty, but tasty can get me in trouble so I'm okay with it. I spent a lot of time shopping and reading labels before and after surgery. I made a notebook of food ideas/recipes. Pinterest is great for Bariatric surgery recipes. I still buy low fat low sugar yogurt and cottage cheese, tuna, smoked salmon for my husband. I opt for low fat chicken broth to cook with. I still choose the low fat soups for emergency. I love the ease of rotisserie chicken for chicken salad, etc. Three years post op I am now drinking protein shakes once a day to jumpstart some weight loss. The best advice I have is to just choose foods which are healthy for you, and I am now on a journey to leave processed food out of our diet. I think of the years I got fat eating Lean Cuisine and WW meals daily. Never again. Good luck!

Pre-Op Gastric Bypass
sandeeb replied to Saria Fleming's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am always surprised to hear about other pre op diets. Mine is restrictive but not liquid at all. I can have 800 calories and 80 or more of Protien. They gave me a menu sample and lots of yogurts lean meats etc .i know I will miss caffeine the most and my glass of wine with dinner! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Fairlife Milk. I have been lactose intolerant for 30 years! After WLS switched from lactaid milk to fairlife. More protein and calcium and less sugar! Taste more like regular milk. Lactaid has a sweet taste. It made me sick after surgery which is why I switched. I eat yogurt and cheese and cottage cheese with lactaid pills. Did this before and after surgery. Good luck and enjoy your dairy!

I pre-op by almost a couple of weeks.. I need suggestions for the best tasting Lactose free dairy items? Yogurt, cottage cheese etc. Thanks in advance!

Foods My Pouch Can Tolerate
HanSolo1977 replied to mrsocheltree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've been eating Elli Quark... which is a german-style cheese a lot like greek yogurt. It has a higher protein-to-carb ratio, it's slightly lower calorie, and lemme tell you, 4 tablespoons of it almost over fills me. It also tastes less sour to me than greek yogurt. They have lots of great flavors, including those without chunks for us puree eaters... -
Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, refried beans, and t soft fish were and are pretty much staples for me.
