Day 4 What did some eat???
lapinND replied to yvonneky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said "move up the schedule as you feel you can. That diet we gave out was more for full gastric patients." I felt a little like a fish out of water--there went my plan! But, on day four, I moved out of popsicles and Water and had my first scrambled egg. I could only eat about half of one egg. He also said I could move back into Protein after 2 days. I used the Liquid Protein from GNC with flat sprite zero. Between the two--protein and egg, I had a lot more energy and less hunger. After that, I had soft foods for a couple of weeks and slowly added other things. My favorite--crustless pumpkin pie. (Just make the filling part of the pie with low-fat milk and splenda). I got about 12 servings out of one recipe. Froze them in the tiniest ziploc containers, and took one out each night to have for Breakfast the next day. Day five, I had some cooked spinach and crab meat. The spinach wasn't my best idea ever, but the crab meat was perfect. Soft, good for you, easy on your stomach. Go slow with anything with more substance that what you're used to eating right now. -
How do you ease your spouse's worries?
HealthQuest replied to kaboom 13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Kaboom, have hubby read some of these threads and maybe he will feel better. Just like you need support to have the surgery, he needs support because he is scared of losing you. I don't know what I can say differently to hubby to make both of you feel better, but if you would like I've had the surgery 2 weeks and would be glad to put any fears he may have to rest. Just send me a private message and I will give you a phone number to contact me. P.S. ignore the weight shown. I've lost more I just don't know how much yet. -
PB'ing can lead to this!!! Must Read!!
Alexandra replied to Iluvmyboys's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mrs. P, I hope your friend is all right!! It is, or should be, common knowledge in the banding community that ongoing and persistent reflux can lead to significant esophageal problems. This is why everyone recommends that reflux be cured, not just treated with medications. Loosening the band is something that a lot of patients don't want to face, since they assume it will lead to stalled weight loss or even weight gain, but if reflux is a persistent problem it must be done. And if that doesn't address the reflux, band removal is the next step. But even given that it sounds as though your friend had other issues going on. She must have been having serious symptoms if her esophagus is damaged enough to require removal! And it's possible that even pre-banding she may have had a compromised esophagus or been suffering from reflux. I'm not discounting that the band may have added to her problems, and the story dramatically points up the need to be alert to symptoms and issues post-banding. I'm just saying that for the situation to have become as serious as it sounds, medical attention may not have been sought as soon as it should have been. Once again, I hope her surgery goes well and she heals quickly!! -
How do you ease your spouse's worries?
kaboom 13 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband is so worried about this surgery. When I first told him about my decision he sort of gave me a guilt trip. He said I should try exercising and dieting and all this stuff. Since I am a self pay he mentioned other options of course. I told him that my mind was made up and that I need support because I was scared enough. Now that the time is getting closer he sees that the surgery is next week, he is so frightened. He stayed up last night starring at me because he said he was scared of what could happen or the complications maybe. Now I find myself trying to comfort him. My anxiety level has sky rocketed big time and now I have to worry about comforting my husband. Anyone had this problem? -
I am no liquids - post op. I got banded this past Wed, 4/2/08. I was on liquids for a week prior to surgery. Love not feeling hungry. It is so hard for me to remember to drink anything. Good luck to all April Bandsters!!

endzone replied to luvmy4jz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why 4-5 weeks? Seems long to me I was banded yesterday and they said liquids for a week, then mushies for a week, then soft foods , then real food......be careful! And don't rush it but check with your dr -
2 weeks post-op questions
terrydumont46 replied to luvmy4jz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
call your doctor office and verify the diet orders. you always need to follow your doctors instruction but 4 weeks of liquids does seem extreme. -
It's been 10 weeks since my surgery. I've lost a few pounds (I weighed 221.6 at the time of surgery and I weigh 209.2 right now), but I'm eating way too much. I'm also making poor food choices. As a rule, I do fine during the day, but in the evening is when I falter. I had fill #1 on 6/12 (.5). I had to go back 2 weeks later and have .25 cc's removed as I was pb'ing too much. Then my second fill date was 7/9. When I went in I just knew the scales would either show I'd gained (horrors!) or that I hadn't lost anything! Actually, they showed an almost 7 pound loss! I had weighed on my scales at home before I left and typically, they run 4-5 pounds lighter than Dr. Schmitt's do. However, that day they were 6.3 pounds heavier! I even told the nurse I didn't think that was right. So I came home and ordered some new scales. When those came, they read almost identical to my old scales, so I feel certain those at the doc's office are wrong. I don't feel any restriction right now, but hope that changes as the month goes on (which I've read does happen). I'm eating like a horse and making poor food choices, at least at night. My next fill date isn't until August 7th; not soon enough if I don't tighten up! :help:

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and am also PMS ( I had my period during surgery so I'm curious to see if I get it on ti,e or not). Try not to let yourself go too long without eating. I also have alot of restriction still so I can only eat 3 very small meals and have about 3-4 healthy Snacks. ( my nutritionist has me eating every 2-3 hours at this stage.) It also sounds like gas - I had the bad shoulder pain on day 6 and it lasted for about a week. good luck!

Anyone struggling with Insomnia
kyleebean replied to kyleebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I CANNOT stand this. It's making me so moody and I'm so tired. I am only 2 weeks post op (from a really difficult surgery) Things are still a little tender and I have to take it easy. Walking is my only option but I live in Wisconsin and its been like 5 degrees the past two days. I did go to the gym and walk about 20 minutes on the treadmill but then I was wiped..... Would have thought I could have slept, but no. -
That's so weird when I saw this before the stall picture didn't show. The day we were departing an Alaskan cruise there was a lady stuck in a stall on the ship.

In the past 3 months, I've had at least 1 two week stall each month. I'll go as long as 3 weeks with no weight loss (and sometimes a gain) then suddenly drop 2 or 3 pounds almost overnight. I haven't gotten use to it, but I don't let it freak me out anymore. :-)

Well, i got my Firm express dvd's last week and they are great but kicking my butt!!!!!! I really like that they are only 20 min workouts and once you get started they keep you motivated and before you know it i was done with my workout!!!! If anyone has the dvd's please let me know what you think, or if we can create a challenge for ourselves!!! As you my know i am only 9 lbs away from my dr's goal, and these are the hardest lbs to get off. So if there is any one who is doing any excercise challenges please let me know also. Let me know!

6 months ago...November banders..
ashemademe replied to briefs199's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery date was 11/14/14. So far I lost 51 pounds 11 in the preops. Still struggling with chewing, its a reflex action mostly. Exercise at least 2-3 times a week. I need to get that number up. I have had 3 fills and my band is a about 6 oz but I have good restriction and not ready for another fill. For April I only lost about 2 pounds but mostly because I started drinking iced coffee with the warm weather coming in. I know better know switching to iced tea with splenda. -

Day 4 What did some eat???
Jennifur replied to yvonneky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just a week over my year out and it is funny, I just got a fill, the first one in a long time that has done anything for me, but I decided to go back to post surgery diet so I've had to back track. After day 8 of my 2 week clear liquid stage, I could not have 1 more cup of plain broth so i went to a sub shop and got some french onion Soup with out the topping (bread and cheese) and put it in my magic bullet to make liquid, was a little thick but not as filling as the creamy Soups. After plain warm broth that was fantastic. Because I know I can have more, I added some lean ground beef to it this time to make a little thicker and added Protein ( I don't know if I would do that post surgery) That was satisfying for a few more days, then tried cream soups but all the good ones had hard veggies in them or just didn't do it for me. Stage 2 beginning mushie stage for me: I made the insides of stuffed shells, ric cheese, seasoning, egg, parm cheese parsley mixture and put sauce over it and baked for mushie stage. Refried Beans with a little melted cheese and lots of salsa to keep moist was another one of my favorites. I put everything in the 3-4 oz cups that you can get at the store, the disposable tupperware type things, and never filled them. What ever you do... just make is mushie and take it slow! Good luck! Oh, today is day 5 of my fill and I just had some ricotta cheese today and it was good. I needed to remind myself what it is all about. Take care -
So I'm about 1 week about of surgery, but while in the hospital there were complications so I needed another surgery, which required to be an open surgery. It's about from right below my breast bone to my belly button. For the past week I haven't been able to sleep at all because of the pain from my stomach, and thriving pain in my tail bone, and I can't sleep on my stomach. When will I be able to sleep on my side or stomach. I'm beginning to really get frustrated

Wanna be healthy, I suggest you do just Clear liquids for a day or two until you feel a little better - most people on here state that they are on clear liquids for 2 weeks then to full liquids (pudding, milk, anything that can go through a straw consistency) Don't worry about Protein for right now, just focus on healing and feeling well. Your body will be fine for a couple of days as it heals further. I also found that cold cold liquids spell disaster for me, lukewarm or even room temperature don't seem to cause the sudden tightness! Good Luck! ~cheri

Drainage In The Port Site.
JohannaMae replied to JohannaMae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I've been worried I don't want it to get infected. It's good to know someone else went through this. I'm going to see my surgeon this week. I noticed since the drainage the swelling has gone down. I still have pain in the port area but the nurse said that's normal. Thanx again hope your doing well - God Bless - -
@@j16 There's a bunch you can use. If you go to a CVS or Walgreens look in the hair coloring section for "root concealers" or "root touch ups". They look like little spray bottles. One I like that isn't overly expensive is: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod6481430# There's also products that coat your hair with little fibers giving it the illusion of being less sparce. An example is this: https://www.amazon.com/TOPPIK-Hair-Building-Fibers-Brown/dp/B000CBVAQ0 I prefer the root touch up spray just because it's easier. I tried Toppik last week after I rn out of the root concealer. I was in a hurry and when I applied it, I made a mess. It definately concealed the thinness though. Just takes a little practice. Also, don't waste your money ($120.00 for the 3 step "system") on Aveeda Invati. It claims to reduce hair loss by 33%. I started using it right after my surgery and still lost half my hair.

Hi all, its been 16 days since surgery and I have lost 10 pounds. I'm trying really hard to not let the scale rule my life, but i'm working on self esteem issues and I still have a love-hate relationship with the scale. I guess I'm looking for reassurance from other sleevers that 10 pounds is good. I only had a 2 day pre-op liquid diet so I didnt have any weightloss right before surg. I have been on mushies for a week now and i'm doing good with protein and water. I'm working on the exercise part, I have just been so tired lately. Thanks for any input. 3500 calories = 1 lb of fat 3500 / 7 = 500 calories per day That's 500 calories per day MORE than you consume, to loose one lb per week. So, if you consume 1000 calories, you must burn 1500 calories....OR consume less calories per day. Ideally consume less, and burn more...increasing the gap between the two.... And that is for real fat burning weight loss, not the quick early stages of weight loss which everybody experiences If you want to loose more than one pound per week, you have to up the above numbers.... Also, in my case, I have always found Protein to give me more energy than calories.... Also, since I am no llonger concerned about loosing weight, I find that exercising everyday covers a multitude of sins....with no weight gain...

Adjusting calories for work outs?
Terry Poperszky replied to sp1587's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everyone is different, I shoot for 1300 calories a day and I have a BMR of 2600, which according to what B-52 said (and I generally agree) gives me a 2.6 pound loss (I am actually experiencing almost 4 pounds a week). I also exercise, some days I eat the calories, some days I don't, I don't have a rule, I just try and listen to my body hunger and give it what it needs. -
That depends...what type of salad are you referring to? Moist meat salads, which include tuna, egg, dark meat chicken or turkey mixed with mayonnaise were on my allowed foods for the soft foods stage, Weeks 4 and 5 of my post op diet.. Raw salad veggies were not on my approved list of foods until I was 6 weeks post op. I was advised to have only dark leafy greens, so I began returning to raw vegetables with raw spinach. I have since transitioned to romaine lettuce for my daily salad. Every surgeon seems to have some variation of their approved list of foods; it's always the best idea to consult with your surgeon about your diet.
