    Stalls??

I hit my first at 2 1/2 weeks and my 2nd at 3 months. They are normal, they suck, and they will (unfortunately) keep happening, especially the further out you get from your surgery and the closer you get to your goal weight.

    July 2022 peeps!

I meant to post this here…Tomorrow is two weeks post op. Feeling good. Much more energy. Walked a mile and a half with the fam earlier and didn’t need a break, which two weeks ago wouldn’t have happened. Tried puréed egg salad today and seems to be sitting well. My biggest thing is remembering to eat slow. Last night I did my yogurt dinner too fast and it was not pleasant. 🥹 Hubby is getting sleeved 8/26. Lots of changes in our home!!!

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Just checking in; yesterday was 7 weeks post-op. When I weighed in, I'm down 32.1lbs since surgery and 75.5 pounds since I started my extended pre-op 8 weeks before surgery. It's still a struggle to get all the protein and fluids in. I get full on about 1.2 ounces of meat; if I push to 1.5ounces, I feel terrible and/or actually get sick. Non-scale wise, I was able to shop with my teenage daughter for back to school without my back bothering me or needing to stop for a break. I'm keeping up with my 3 year old better as well thought she's a wild child. I've bought a few clothing items and I'm down 3 pant sizes.

    Stalls??

So i was going to do that. go back on a liquid diet then my nutritionist said no. That i need stability in my diet to loose weight. that changing from this many calories to less or more can cause you to gain weight.but yea if your BMI was lower then you will loose weight slower. I know i am out of my stall because the previous 30 days i only lost around 5-6lb. and recently after 1 week i lost 5lb.

    August surgery buddies!

7 days in to the pre-op liquid diet and one week until surgery. I can do this! Now that the caffeine headache withdrawal is gone, it's much easier to tolerate the diet. I think I have decided not to go back to coffee in the mornings once I can simply because of the awful experience I had with the withdrawals. I only consume one cup in the mornings and I don't wish to go through that again! So instead I think I'm going to start warming up a protein drink or switch to KaCahva or herbal tea or something else that does not have the addicting caffeine. Believe me, I love coffee, but I sure did not love learning how dependent I was on it. One more thing to adjust into my new lifestyle for a healthier me Has anyone else tried that new KaChava drink to replace coffee? Would love to know what you think about it!

My surgery is also a week from tomorrow! Hooray. So close and yet I feel like this time is going to go so slowly. I am excited also.
  7. My name is Michelle, I've been on this journey the past 13months. Been geared up for it before then just didn't realize it was an insurance possibility. I'm so excited that I'm finally going g to be able to enjoy life again without worry. My family is very supportive and that makes this so much easier. Been on pre op vitamin regimine for over a week now. I know this isn't going to be a snap but it feels like it will be Sent from my SM-A135U using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgery is a week from tomorrow! Two months ago when I got my surgery date it seemed like it would never get here, and now I'm rushing around making sure I have everything ready I can't wait!

    Stalls??

I'm a slow loser. I've been told it's because my BMI is on the lower end. So after my 3 week stall I only lose 1lb a week. I have not lost anything for almost 3 weeks now. So I guess I'll go back to my liquid diet and see if that helps.
  10. Hi everyone. I hope I’m posting this in the correct place. I just wanted to get some insight or any prior experience. I had RNY on 9/9/13. Down from 311 pounds to between 170-180 now for maintenance. Prior to surgery, I was on Metformin, Protonix, and HCTZ. I was off all three meds within three months of surgery. Surgically, I had to have my appendix out and gallbladder removed many years ago, so neither are causing my current issues. About a month ago, I started getting wicked heartburn and reflux. My appetite is diminished. No vomiting, but zero desire to eat. I have cut out spicy foods, I’m not a smoker or tobacco user, and I do not drink alcohol. I’m 38 years old and in otherwise good health. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I have tried OTC Omeprazole, baking soda, Tums, and all the antacids. I started drinking decaffeinated chamomile tea in the morning as well. Does anyone have experience with heartburn, GERD, etc. coming back many years after RNY? What ended up being the cause? I have my annual followup with my bariatric surgeon on October 11, but I’m wondering if I should move the appointment up. Thank you in advance for any insight!

    Post op injections?

I was prescribed Lovenox as part of my post-op treatment protocol. As others have mentioned, the needles are really small, 27 ga. normally. I don't even feel them. Regardless, the benefit far outweighs the minor discomfort. My pharmacy did not have any alcohol prep pads when I picked up my script (my Dr. sent me the script 2 weeks before surgery so I would be prepared when I got home). I went to Amazon and found them at a reasonable price and got a small box. Just remember to let the alcohol evaporate for a few seconds prior to injecting, to minimize discomfort from the alcohol.

    Stalls??

almost everyone has their first one within the first month or so after surgery. After that, it's really an individual thing. If you're sticking to your program and the scale isn't budging, then yes - you're probably in a stall. Just keep on sticking to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again...

    Stalls??

Just about everyone hit a 3 week stall, after that there is no rhyme or reason from what I can tell. Everyone just stalls when their body needs time to readjust. I am just about 5 months post op and the only stall I saw so far was at 3 weeks.

    Stalls??

What time frame did y'all hit the dreaded stalls? My first was at 3 weeks. I'm at 15 weeks now and trying to see if I'm in a stall or doing something wrong. Sleeved 4/26. SW 216 CW 188

    Anyone stopped losing?

Ooooou I probably should update :) So after a 7 week , what I think was a stall. the scale finally started going down. I am down 8 more lbs in just 1 week and I’ve changed nothing . So exciting! I’m sure it’s water weight but IDK why it held on for so long. Hang in there you guys. We got this !
  18. Stalls are part of the process. We all experience at least one. They usually last 1-3 weeks. Think of them as your body judging needing a time out to catch up on the changes: change of diet, weight loss, etc. They pass when your body is ready. Just stick to your plan & you’ll be fine. We all have fluctuations in our weight. Everyone. You may not have been aware of your natural fluctuation in the past unless you weighed yourself as regularly as you do now. I fluctuate a kg - 2.2lbs. Can be fluid retention, constipation, diarrhoea, what you ate or drank yesterday compared with today, hormonal fluctuations, etc. (I used to gain a good 3 kgs in the days before my period & would lose them in the first days of my period.) The thing to remember is that your weight loss will never be a straight downward line. It will zig & zag, up & down, plateau, drop more slowly or quickly one week to the next. As long as the general trend is downwards you’re golden. PS Congrats on your weight loss so far .

    Post op blood thinner

They gave me shots while in hospital for 24hrs (don’t think it continued fora second day) & that was it. But others on this forum have shared they had to give themselves injections for a couple of weeks. It may depend on your general health status & history, mobility, etc. I found the injections themselves didn’t really hurt but the bruises in the various sites were tender. If you are concerned about injecting yourself (I would be too) ask if there is an alternative med. Though that may depend upon you’re able or allowed to swallow meds in the first week or two after surgery.

    Wish you knew before surgery…

I understand. I too am a single person. My family aren’t just ‘down the road’ either & I also don’t work anymore so I have all day to fill in. I do have a small circle of friends but they work, have families & their own interest & commitments. I don’t have a lot of hobbies either (except shopping - does that count -ha). I read lots. I’ll also happily go to the movies, art gallery & dance performances alone. I set myself a task to do everyday. Clean a wardrobe, drawers, cupboard or pantry, potter in my garden, various household tasks, etc. I even iron my tea towels as a task. I’ll watch/steam/download true crime & other documentaries, lifestyle programs, & other programs. Play some games on my iPad (love a jigsaw app I have). I’ll ring or txt friends & family every week too (been having a txt conversation all morning with two girlfriends). It’s amazing how your days do fill. I don’t exercise as such (just some stretches everyday) but another activity would be going for a walk, swim, gym visit, yoga class, … Joining a yoga, Pilates or other class, a book club are opportunities to meet people too & chat with those with similar interests. Are there adult education classes in your area where you can learn pottery, to paint, write a short story, or whatever? Get to know your local shop keepers & assistants too. I was chatting with the lady at my pharmacy this morning - yep, I can be that person holding up the line - but it’s an interaction & you never know what they can share about local activities or events you could attend or invite your work colleagues to join you at. Get to know your neighbours. One of my neighbours & I get together randomly for a cup of tea/coffee & a chat. I met some other women through her too as she invited me to join a sip & scribble group.

    August surgery buddies!

Hi there 6 weeks actually starting next week! It’s very hard following my pre-op diet while at work and stressing about possible exposure to COVID-19. I really don’t want to take any chances of having my surgery postponed. I feel like if I get stir crazy I’ll go back to work. I hope your recovery goes well and you’re able to function at work easily. I work at a prison so there’s a lot of walking unsure if I should rush back? Which surgery are you having? I’m a revision sleeve to DS due to hypothyroidism & pcos.

I gained 3 lbs one month post op

I’m still pre-op but I agree with your mom. 50 lbs in a month is a lot of progress. Check in with your Nutritionist if you can and see if they have any advice to help you through this. They might see something for you to adjust or that you are missing. I’ve read many times about stalls, hormone fluctuations during monthly cycles … water retention from salt (broth or canned soups) all impacting fluctuations. Stick with your program, keep track of intake and check in with your team (that’s the advice my program drilled into me). Good luck. I hope you are through this stall soon and pick back up with your progress!

    Post op injections?

Yes - I give myself a shot the day before surgery, i believe they give me blood thinner in the hospital and then for a set number of days after (I forget off the top of my head how many days). Here is a link to the video my program gave me. If you aren’t taking lovenox, yours may be different but this will give you the general idea. https://www.lovenox.com/patient-self-injection-video The needle is very thin and small. It’s given subcutaneous (in the fat). I was warned may bruise at the injection spot, and you will not give two shots in the same spot. I take ozempic shots once a week and they occasionally pinch for a SECOND. I’m expecting the lovenox to sting a little or burn a little more than the ozempic - just by the nature of the medicine.
  25. Has anyone else been given a script for injections of blood thinners for blood clots? Just had my 2 week appointment before my surgery and she said I need to give myself injections to help reduce the risks for blood clots postop and I am freaked out. I hate needles and now I have to stick myself for a month. My daughter already said no way in hell is she doing it for me.(she has a needle phobia too)
