  1. I started with a low carb lifestyle and plan to stick to it as a lifestyle vs a diet. It’s what helps make the tool work for me. I also have to do lower calories probably than most. I do strict regime.mi didn’t quite start out this way but learned along the way that keeping daily record of my weight, protein and calorie goals and my planned meals for the day, helps. I calculate minimum daily protein based on weight, 0.36 grams protein per 1lb body weight. i started out April 2019 at 208lbs BMI 40.6 Height 5’ by month six I was down to 136lbs and I’d lost 72lbs each person is different in their approach and how much they lose. I am unable to exercise due to medical conditions and disability. I have to compensate in other ways. (Honestly exercise isn’t for weight loss, exercise is to build muscle because muscle burns more calories than fat but for me exertion of any kind weakens my muscles, actually ages them) Since reaching goal now that I’m a little over a year after surgery- I have added a little bit of fruit for fiber and vitamins. Like a manzano banana with my yogurt. And either a pear or an apple at night. That is when I can get them. And occasionally a couple blackberries. Otherwise I’m strict low carb. I followed low carb low calorie for years but it wasn’t sustainable until I had the added tool of gastric bypass surgery and reached a weight loss goal I have never reached at any point in my life. Of course not including being under ten years old 🤣
  2. Starting weight 322 6 month weight 170 I was very low calorie and carbs from day 1 lost weight real quickly and the last month been kinda in maintenance but still managed to get to 165 lowest. Had RNY BYPASS.
  3. I hear you, I know we both are. I'm reading some of the challenges and they're a bit scary. I'm considering bypass and I didn't know I'd be on supplements the rest of my life. And the hair loss. Lol. But anything that helps will be worth it, I think. Wow. I hope you don't mind me asking. Since you were able to lose that before surgery, did you reconsider having the surgery? I think if I'm able to get on a good path and lose a bit on my own, I might keep on going on my own. Surgery just seems so drastic to me still. But again I've been doing this for so many years, it prob is time for that step.

    Hi there! I’m 6 days post gastric bypass & having a tough time getting liquids in. Seems to be so much pressure inside & when I do drink it’s like I get instant gas! Thank you for all the encouragement so far!

    Headache

    On a liquid 2 week diet. Revision this coming Wednesday.  Besides being a little hungry and bored to death of liquid ... I’ve had a headache.  I believe it’s a sinus headache. Been also doing a lot of yard work for 4 days so maybe it’s allergies. Been russeling up a bunch of weeds, dust etc.  I’m afraid to take a Tylenol or even some sinus medicine.  What to do!? Tomorrow is a covid  test which I hope it’s not.

    I had the sleeve done and have erosive esophagitis grade D from the GERD. I was told I needed to do revise to by pass so I didn't get Barrets and cancer. Have you had WLS or is this going to be your first ? I saw my PCP on Feb 7th 2017. She sent in the order so I could go through the process and I had surgery on August 9th 2017. So 6 months start to finish but it sure did seem longer at the time. I live in Springfield not sure how far you are from here but I would definitely recommend Dr. Edwards and his team.

    It was odd for me. I had no problem with premier with sleeve. I could not tolerate them after bypass at all. It was like they were too fizzy ( if that makes sense) and made me very nauseous. Hopefully you will be able to tolerate them well. You are correct to take things slow. 7 months out and I am still finding food that I can’t tolerate but did fine with before bypass. Nothing quite like getting that sick feeling after eating something that does not agree with you. The first 2-3 months were hard when it came to finding foods that I could tolerate. It does get easier though. another odd thing was that I could feel the mesh. It didn’t hurt but I knew it was there.
  8. Hello there What should I expect when I go to my consult on June 1st? Thankfully they're allowing another person to come in with me who could also ask questions and such. I am planning on getting a new dietitian / nutritionist as my current one doesn't specialize in bypass or had extra training. She said to ask the surgeon who I should see on this.

    Congrats on your upcoming revision. Hope you breeze through it. I didn't have to do a liquid diet, but I did cut sugar out and any junk food the last 2 days. I pretty much just ate a lot of protein the last 2 days before surgery. Sorry you not feeling well maybe its nerves ?

    Pouch test

    Thanks for the info I had my surgery about three years ago and I did the test because I feel hungry all the time [emoji854] [emoji38] I was worried that it might have stretched over time. Since I am now my pre surgery weight. My concerns are on a high level. I am nervous that the doctor might not revise my surgery. I ate all the right stuff kept away from soda candy and chips.     Hope you feel better.. you got this! I’m headed for the same, revision and surgery, this coming Wednesday. I think they’re repairing my hernia. It’s umbilical. With mesh I think they said. I have a high tolerance for pain so I’m hoping I’m okay with it this time around. Two C Sections and a gastric sleeve, few other surgeries along the way too, I’ve been okay. I’m worried this time around ... between the virus and this liquid diet. I feel horrible today. I hope it’s nothing and why I feel so off today.

    I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I never had a revision, but I have heard that they tend to be more painful then the original surgery... I hope the gas pain goes away so that you can at least get slightly more comfortable. In some ways, after reading of so many people struggling with their pain after surgery I feel lucky to have a high pain tolerance due to my Trigeminal Neuralgia. I guess some good came out of my affliction... I hope they can find a balance to your pain meds that helps! I wish you a speedy recovery!

    When can we eat rice

    I started to introduce all foods 4 weeks after MGB and 3 weeks after revision to RNY. Rice was one of the first foods I tried and it was fine. However, dietitians vary. The ones in my treatment team are pretty lax about food choices as long as nutritional needs are met and the patient is satisfied with the results and that suits me just fine. They recommend to try stuff like rice, muesli and pasta etc. with caution as some patients experience stomach problems with rice and the like but in general they're ok with these foods (what people on here usually call "carbs"). A so-called "balanced diet" is recommended by them but I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea.

    Walking will help with the gas. You are doing good to do 3 laps! I didn’t have enough breath to barely make one lap after my revision. I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. They did give me the injections in my stomach that kept my stomach numb and I think that helped a lot. Hang in there. As you know from past experience it will get easier as you go.

    Hang in there! It will get better. My first night after revision was awful as well because the pain management sucked (that's the difference between ICU and IMC I guess...). However, after the drain was out the next day, things got better at once.
  19. Had the revision done at 7 30 am this morning weighing in at 180 my original goal weight. The first 12 hours were horrible. This was a very painful surgery for me and I don't know if it was because they also took the hernia I had. ( I believe they said they took it and not fixed it but I am still on the drugs. ) I have been given morphine to start with then they switched me to dillata because the morphine wasn't cutting it. I am back on liquid hydro now. I wasn't able to urinate either for the first several hours and I am still having a hard time with it. I have been crying through most of the day. Pain, anxiety and lack of sleep have been my companions as they are still not letting visitors in. I cant tell if I still have GERD . The gas pain has been in my neck and shoulders it sucks. I did 3 laps around the ward at 1 am to see if it would help because I thought I had read it helps with the gas. Well I will keep updating my progress here. Good night

    Hello I am new

    I had gastric bypass surgery due to lifelong chronic illness, disability, metabolic disorders and inability to exercise. one being PCOS. Although now I no longer have ovaries but that’s a long story. I was doing a low carb lifestyle (I always will be) and low calorie years before surgery but it wasn’t enough. I needed extra help. I also had gallbladder surgery at the same time due to chronic inflammation. I am a little over a year out from surgery now. I keep daily log of weight, meals, calories and protein. I usually like to try to plan a few days of meals. I also take notes of any medical issues, symptoms and doctors appointments. It might be OCD of me and I do keep strict calories and had very low calories from the start. Since I have reached goal I did increase them somewhat to where I’m comfortable. I don’t eat a lot of meat with exception of occasional low carb foods from “Real good foods” they make chicken enchiladas I like. And breakfast sandwich with cauliflower buns. I didn’t eat these until close to a year post surgery. initially I stuck to PEScience protein powder mixed with 6 ounces unsweetened ripple milk, also BariatricPal protein soups, BariatricPal protein shots, juice flavor protein drinks. And later I’d started mixing the protein powder into Greek yogurt. Purée stage was tough for me. I stuck to very simple things a long time to avoid purée that made me feel sick. I eventually started soft boiled egg. And gradually added veggie burger. Just took it all slow. example Of my meals now: breakfast a protein bar with tea, lunch varies depending what’s in my freezer but not by much I like a veggie burger with an egg on top for extra nutrition and variety of texture and flavor or different variations of that with different vegetarian foods that are low carb and calorie. My dinners are actually Greek yogurt with 1/2 scoop protein powder, a baby banana, a drizzle of sugar free syrup (choczero chocolate is awesome stuff) and some sugar free land o lakes whipped cream. I’ve taken to mixing the yogurt with the protein powder (usually plain fage or TwoGood) then putting it in the freezer 30 minutes then mixing before eating ... I put a bit of pink salt when I mix it. It does something to the flavor. I keep to my portions and calories. But it’s enough for me. I’d say my calories ranged 300-480 averaging 380. I am now starting to average 480-550. Maybe seems crazy low. (I’m still baffled how before surgery I was gaining weight on 800 calories) I’m working on maintenance and finding balance. I also don’t count calories from the little bit of creamer I use (I use quest salted caramel protein shake as creamer) or the little bit of olive oil for cooking, or the calories of the banana ... but it’s been working out fine. all the best to you on your journey this is the protein I use in case you are interested http://rwrd.io/c6uus2e

    JUST GIMME THE DANG SURGERY ALREADY!!!

    alright so i did what alot of the other people in this thread did. i saw Dr weiner videos as well and am still researching because I can still go bypass if I change my mind from sleeve. i also took the nutrition packet and began logging my food and have begun interacting with the dietician following her instructions showing food log. we go over that in telehealth apmt. I cut out the foods already that the surgeon said to (carbonated beverages lol). i also had an apmt with nurse pract from the program and for weight they can pull it from your health records from your gp. though for my second apmt I just weighed and I am down 12lbs from the diet. i was told it usually takes 3-4 months to get into the surgery room. i was told I would be required to attend support group at least once so I went to that already, and I plan to go to the next one too as they have little food topics. I am already on their end game diet through the dietician, but I am not in hardcore mode. right now I do not have to count carbs in most veg, and I have been subbing with some keto premade snacks. It's a good time to start the diet if you haven't so you know what you r getting yourself into but also a good time to experiment with foods because no pouch size yet. its kinda like easing into diet slowly. also make sure to look at check list and complete those. mine had things like support group at least once, sleep study etc and I completed what I could and scheduled with gp already to get the others. (Im waiting on gp apmt for egd but also waiting for behavioral health referral to call me with apmt as I was approved to see them for assessment)
  22. Hi GenevaCH, I was revising from a band so this was the surgeons recommendation. I couldn’t go with sleeve as the band leaves scar tissue so the pouch is left bigger as a result. I didn’t even think of the RNY to be honest. The same surgeon put my band in and I trusted his opinion 100%. (But I did do my own research). He said it gave his patients the best lifestyle in terms of socializing etc. It was also cheaper than the RNY. And the fact that it’s reversible also played a big part.
