Revision - Tomorrow - Wednesday
ge0rgette2 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
i'm being revised tomorrow and I'm a nervous wreck!!! Unsure why - been anxious for a few days.. I was so ready in March, then April, and here I am and nervous! -
I think it's different when you have/had a bypass the first time around ... Unsure why - but thats my opinion. Sleeve to Bypass, I would assume is the same thing - it's a bypass. I'm being revised tomorrow and I'm a nervous wreck!!! Unsure why - been anxious for a few days.. I was so ready in March, then April, and here I am and nervous!

Revision time
Tracyringo replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have heard that the bypass is different with food and what works one day may not work the next. I plan on trying one thing at a time. I also have been told you have to chew chew chew because it gets stuck ? I do understand the drinking rule and have no problem with that. I didn't drink 30 min or better after eating with sleeve and I didn't drink with meals, so I am use to that. What about before though ? I had one person tell me she drinks and will eat within 5 minutes of it but not after. -
This is the revision page !!!!! Mind your business and go to your other forum with first timers !

Hate bypass
New&Improved replied to DesperateEC's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You are giving people bad information about the bypass when it was your 2nd surgery not your first. I had the RNY BYPASS and had not one issue and below my goal weight already and doing amazing!! -
Summerset thank you so much !! You hit the nail on the head on so many things. I don not feel as crappy or wore down as I did after the sleeve. I can drink just as I did the day before the revision and I asked the surgeon about that and he said it was okay just a mouthful at a time. Chobani yogurt is 5 oz and I just ate one for breakfast different brand with 15 grams of protein, no problems. It is very scary because I have no idea of what I am living with now and how this is going to work. I will say I have not gotten sick and thrown up on anything yet, but I didn't with the sleeve either so I am hopeful there, but what is this gas thing and is this something that is forever with the bypass ? Thank you for making me feel not alone, I really do appreciate it.

It is early. I'm always surprised how early patients are discharged sometimes. Routine discharge here is on 5th post-op day but only when all post-op labs, ultrasound and cinematography are fine. Sleeve must be so different. I can't imagine the level of restriction patients must be having. From what I saw when I was at the clinic (for whatever procedure...) the bypass people seemed to have less issues drinking their fluids and felt less crappy after surgery. How big is a Chobani yoghurt, like how many grams? One yoghurt wasn't a problem for me either. The "being full after three spoonfuls" seems to be one of the many WLS myths that by far not all patients experience. I never did. Back in the days it did kind of scare me as well. Today I'm grateful for the amount of food I can eat (or rather could before revision, at the moment I'm eating more frequently but the meals are smaller). It makes eating life feel more normal. You're only a few days post-op. You didn't really want to have this surgery (meh, how I can relate to this...) and I feel this contributes to this "feeling awful and frustrated". We didn't go into this with the high expectations of someone who gets the first WLS. No weight to lose, no weight-loss-rewards rolling in, no awesome changes in life how people treat you differently because you've lost weight. We hope for no pain, no complications and we certainly hope that we won't experience any weight gain because of revision. Fear/Anxiety, not hope, is the predominant feeling for many people having revision because of some other reason than "weight loss". Will my weight stay stable? Will my reflux really be gone? I don't know if the "weight gain thought" is really a rational thought to have but it's nagging in the back of my brain since surgery, messing up my relationship with food (again). It slowly gets better but there is still this in my head: "Is long limb RNY as good as MGB when it comes to maintaining weight?! Will I magically start gaining weight even though I don't eat more than before with the MGB?! Will I be fine in the future with this surgery weight wise?! What if reflux comes back?! What if this was the wrong decision?!" I totally get your thoughts and feelings and I hope it makes you feel less alone.

Hate bypass
New&Improved replied to DesperateEC's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
This is your second surgery it will be different if the sleeve didn't work you have to live with the bypass and get used to it as time goes on okay... I had the bypass and it has been great for me don't feel hungry much and you learn how much your pouch will take to fill. -
I feel no restriction with this bypass nothing, notta. I miss my sleeve and I am so sad I couldn't keep it, crying as a matter of fact, and all this gas, I have **** myself twice today !!! I keep telling myself everything will be okay and its way early. I feel so alone and helpless . I ate a Chobani yogurt today I made myself go slow but ate the whole thing and felt NOTHING had that been my sleeve 5 days post op it would have only been a few bites and I would have been done.

Today has been a decent day. I have taken one pain pill and have eaten a few oz of split pea soup blended and a few oz of premier protein and beef broth. I am just sore for the most part and wear the binder when sleeping. Somebody needs to fill me in on this intestinal gas thing !!! Really the first time it hit it hurt so bad I wasn't sure if something was wrong. Had to get to the store for gas x after finding some talk about it. Is this the rest of my life? or is this just something in the beginning of the bypass? -
So 9 months post-op and I'm considered underweight. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen and in fact, used to worry I wouldn't lose enough! My aftercare has been lacking and I emailed the hospital director last week to let her know my BMI is too low and none of the team replied to my Nov/Dec emails. She sent a snotty email back saying that coz of COVID no one had replied. Of course, I'll be setting her straight tomorrow. She did, however, get the surgeon to ring me but I missed his call I just can't get enough food in, which I told the dietician in Dec and she never rang back as arranged, so I've been bumbling along on my own. Still feeling very unwell and have been since the surgery, but it's a bit like I got put in the 'too hard' basket! Any other bypassers have this eating weight loss issue?

surgeons seem quick to blame vsg patients don't they, sounds like a revision to bypass would be good. -
Advice needed - VSG Failure

This is interesting. I have not heard this before, but then again I have not looked into a revision (I am only 5 months post-op) Maybe you can speak with a surgeon about a revision or speak to a doctor in a medically supervised weight loss program. I wish you the best. -
What’s your weight loss after 6 months and what was you starting weight?
Abcdefg replied to Abcdefg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Our stats are almost identical! I’m 48, BMI 41, and I’m 5’1; this is exactly what I was hoping for! I’ve seen some charts that just don’t seem realistic. May I ask if you had the bypass or sleeve? -

I looked for your journey last night from when you had the bypass revision last summer but was unable to find it. Could you please tell me what page that is on. -
Pre-Op Liquids Only. I am SO HUNGRY!!!!
Ann777 replied to pmh22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! We 're running back to back with our current weight stats and my surgery is tomorrow -revising band to sleeve! Best! -
I could SO relate to this post. I originally had the lap band because I didn't want my anatomy permanently altered. After my band slipped in 2009, I lived without it and maintained most of my weight loss. In 2014, I had some major stresses in my life and I reverted back to some really bad habits. As a result, I gained all of my weight back. It took me another 2 years to reconcile with the fact I needed help and I may need to have parts me permanently changed or removed. It's a process. You'll be ready at your own pace. I CAN answer the 3rd question: Most insurance plans allow the surgical removal of a defective implantable device (aka the lap band). I'm not sure what you mean by the "I have 2 more years before the ins will cover." Never heard of such a thing in the case of removing an implant. Talk with your surgeon, they have people in their office who do nothing but handle the insurance claims and they usually know their stuff. Depending on your insurance and your circumstances, you may be able to have the band out and have a conversion to sleeve/bypass in one surgery. It's more cost-effective for the insurance and unless you have medical contraindications that would make the dual surgery unsafe, you should be good. Again, consult your surgeon and the office.

Newbie considering surgery. Help with negative thoughts?
New&Improved replied to Kam1177's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mate everybody knows that you do not lose the same amount consistently like that at all... I lost 40lbs in the first month and then it took me 2 months to lose the next 40 nobody loses weight like that because the less weight you have to lose the harder it will be to lose. Also some people lose 1lb a week others lose 10lb a week it all depends. I'm more than happy with my bypass as I'm in maintenance mode and below goal -
I can’t stop trying to find answers. I have experienced migraines for years, but approximately two years after my sleeve surgery I began experiencing intractable migraines and headaches. I have been seeking treatment for years, am in numerous meds, and get botox therapy... and it’s still a struggle. I recently had revision to RNY... but honestly these migraines started initially two years post op my sleeve. Has anyone else had this? They’ve greatly impacted my quality of life.

Wow, I can see where you would be possibly unhappy with the effects you are dealing with ( I read your pros and cons). Are you currently thinking of changing back to sleeve? Did you lose your extra weight you were needing to lose when you revised to the DS? Was the actual surgical recovery painful or difficult? I am sure you are trying everything possible, but , curious if diet changes are having any impact on the gastrointestinal issues at hand that you are living with. Thank you for sharing! @Wisconsin_Gal

Newbie considering surgery. Help with negative thoughts?
New&Improved replied to Kam1177's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vitamins is easy since I'm no longer taking medication for obesity related issues vitamins are simple. And I've lost weight before but without surgery it always came back but now with the bypass it has completely changed my metabolism from the inside and I'm a new person and lost more weight than I ever thought possible and that's mostly down to the changes the bypass made to my body.. I've blown through all my goals and under goal weight right now within 7 months... Bypass was the best choice for me no complications either -
Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have to admit this subject has been a big deal for me. Despite the financial challenges of it. I had my gastric bypass surgery April 29th 2019 and I reached goal earlier than I thought I would. To be honest I reached a goal I never thought I could. My excess skin is more problematic and unsightly probably due to my inability to exercise. Especially my thighs and butt. My core can use the strengthening it would help with along with the skin removal. Some areas I feel like a Shar Pei ... I get bloody rashes on my thighs especially trying to shave but it’s catch 22 I have to shave otherwise I get rashes from irritating hair ... due to pcos. Anyway. I’d hoped that insurance might offer some help. I asked my surgeon they were like yes Florida does pay for certain reasons. They said make an appointment with the plastic surgeon. But when we called they said they didn’t accept insurance. I figured if Cleveland Clinic didn’t no one else would. Honestly I watch that show my 600lb life and how people get free skin removal ... it’s not fair. sorry I rambled. Just when I didn’t know what to do, I found that BariatricPal actually has their own Hospital and researched them and they are awesome. It’s located in Mexico and is a short ride from San Diego airport. It’s called Hospital BC. I’ve been emailing them for some time now and they have been patiently helping me with deciding on choosing their Hospital and then planning this. I am scheduled for surgery June 15th. I’m trying to prepare myself for it! I leave June 14th from Palm beach airport. I return on June 21st and technically get home June 22nd. I will be having belt lipectomy with butterfly lift, tightening of the stomach muscles. And to be honest I will be asking them to not relocate my bellybutton. I will also be having thigh lift. And breast augmentation. I had to have CBC bloodwork at my doctors appointment prior. But otherwise they do everything there. It’s all inclusive. They provide transportation to and from the airport. I stay in hospital one night and in their special hotel the rest but with 24 hour nurse/doctor and concierge. Meals and other things are included that I can’t think of at the moment. They give Faja and even lymphatic massage if it’s needed. im hoping my numerous previous surgeries will have me prepared for how to manage the post op incision care. I’ve never traveled so far and will likely go home with drains in place. My primary care physician wasn’t too pleased with the idea ... but at this point she was smart and didn’t try and argue with me 🤣 Honestly you can be in the states and get really terrible surgeons ... and I found this place looks excellent. this is the website: https://hospitalbc.com -
What’s your weight loss after 6 months and what was you starting weight?
JRT Mom replied to Abcdefg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm VERY pleased. I'm a revision from a slipped lap band to RNY and was told by many (but not my surgeon) it would be hard to get any real success. But I'm 6 months out and have lost 59 pounds. I'm only 5 pounds from my goal, and weigh almost 20 pounds less than the lowest weight I got to after my band! I chose the weight of 140 because it's the highest weight that puts me in the "normal" BMI range. You might want to base your goal by your BMI rather than your scale weight. Good Luck! -
Sounds like you're doing well so far. I had RNY BYPASS

What’s your weight loss after 6 months and what was you starting weight?
Darktowerdream replied to Abcdefg's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started with a low carb lifestyle and plan to stick to it as a lifestyle vs a diet. It’s what helps make the tool work for me. I also have to do lower calories probably than most. I do strict regime.mi didn’t quite start out this way but learned along the way that keeping daily record of my weight, protein and calorie goals and my planned meals for the day, helps. I calculate minimum daily protein based on weight, 0.36 grams protein per 1lb body weight. i started out April 2019 at 208lbs BMI 40.6 Height 5’ by month six I was down to 136lbs and I’d lost 72lbs each person is different in their approach and how much they lose. I am unable to exercise due to medical conditions and disability. I have to compensate in other ways. (Honestly exercise isn’t for weight loss, exercise is to build muscle because muscle burns more calories than fat but for me exertion of any kind weakens my muscles, actually ages them) Since reaching goal now that I’m a little over a year after surgery- I have added a little bit of fruit for fiber and vitamins. Like a manzano banana with my yogurt. And either a pear or an apple at night. That is when I can get them. And occasionally a couple blackberries. Otherwise I’m strict low carb. I followed low carb low calorie for years but it wasn’t sustainable until I had the added tool of gastric bypass surgery and reached a weight loss goal I have never reached at any point in my life. Of course not including being under ten years old 🤣
