6 Weeks post op ... WHAT DO I EAT?
Heidie88 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a three week stall and now I am stalled at six weeks. I had my period last week and when I weighed I was 240 now I am 242. I am not sure what to eat but I want to make sure I stay on track and keep losing not gaining two pounds. Please help ... what are some good recipes for six weeks out? -
How often do you weigh yourself
SerendipityHappens replied to Joe I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh daily and record losses in MFP, if my weight fluctuates back up, I don't record the gain and then will record the next loss when I see that I am below my last recorded weight. I count my wednesday weight in order to track my weekly progress. I had a three week stall during my preop process.. I gave my scale a bit of a time out during that time because I was getting frustrated, but ordinarily I'm not bothered by fluctuations or up to a week without any loss so I like to weigh daily. -
I'm stalled :( NEED encouragement!

Search three week stall. Tons of people have gone through the same thing. Also losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time kind of shocks the body. It does need time to adjust. Are you measuring? While weight might slow or stall from time to time, you could be losing inches. -
The three week stall is a common thing- stick with your program, keep the faith, you will start losing again...I know easier said than done, I was stuck fo rtwo weeks- then boom..5 lbs off!

What are some things that you wish you would have known before you got sleeved?
clk replied to MK1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would phrase it much more nicely now that I'm not feeling as frustrated, but everything in my rant about ridiculous expectations applies here. 1) Surgery hurts, be prepared for discomfort. 2) Losing weight doesn't happen overnight, so please try not to weigh daily post op or you'll make yourself insane. It should take a lot less time to reach goal than it took to pack on enough pounds to need surgery, but it doesn't all fall off in just a few months, so try to be patient. Also, I'd add that it's important to scrap any expectations about the pace you'll lose before you even have surgery. You'll lose at the pace your body sets, and it's unlikely that you can affect that pace much. 3) Eating will be a challenge for a while. You'll lack energy until you can eat. You might feel like you're "hungry" when you're stuck on a liquid diet. This will all pass eventually and it's normal. 4) PPI, PPI, PPI. Take one. Be proactive. Lots of "hungry" folks just need better acid control. 5) Remember that the sleeve will help you lose weight, but only you can choose to overcome whatever obstacles or issues in your life made you obese in the first place. It's fully possible to graze and binge post op if you want to, so you have to keep that in mind and work on those issues right out of the gate if you want an easy time in maintenance. VST is here for support and advice. Joining a group of people sleeved at the same time will be beneficial as they'll be right where you are in your journey. You shouldn't be afraid to ask questions or look for support, but remember that every question you have has also likely been asked before, so don't be afraid to search out old threads, too. Trust me - the three week stall was the same for us sleeved years ago as it is for folks sleeved last month. Don't miss out on a wealth of useful information that's out there because you might only get two or three quick replies to a question if it's a common one, but you'll have hundreds of answers to choose from if you go searching. Most of all, good luck. I do not regret my surgery at all, even if the journey took a bit longer than I thought it would and had it's moments of frustration for me. Do the work and you get to enjoy the results for a lifetime. ~Cheri -
3 weeks po stall
Decembersleever replied to angelal1213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ahhhh. The dreaded three week stall. Hang in there. Your body is playing catch up Don't change a thing . You will be losing again real soon -
The three week stall lasts 3 weeks. You haven't lost anything in the last 45 minutes because you haven't had a poop. Vodka and Redbull is fine as long as the bull isn't too big and you'll know if you stretched your sleeve if you can still fit in another KFC Family Feast.

Thank you, PdxMan. Not only have I long enjoyed your posts, your perspective and the fact that I feel that like me, you try to balance genuinely helping people with convincing them to help themselves, but I guess I needed validation from an actual vet that's been here a long time, too. As for Nicolanz's response that seems to infer (oh so politely) that I should leave VST since I don't want to play by the exact same set of nicey nice rules she feels should run the site, I find that incredibly offensive, regardless of how you delicately worded the notion. I get on VST mostly to help other people. I've only posted a handful of posts in over three years asking for help...and sadly? I got very few responses each time. But it's draining to log on and see I have seven messages and six of them are questions that are currently being addressed or people asking me to do their research for them. Why? Because I DO care, and I DO want to help people and I feel an obligation to respond to everyone that takes the time to message me, even when I have more important things to do or I've already tackled the topic a dozen times. As people that do converse with me via PM know, I do my best to give the same (wordy) thoughtful and helpful responses when the question is something I have actual experience with or feel I can help with, and to date, I've ignored only ONE PM I've gotten...and it was a bizarre one asking me to do things that have nothing to do with VST. If I scare people off or make them insecure about PMing me, odds are good those are exactly the people with exactly the questions I didn't want to answer. And as this is a community that numbers in the THOUSANDS, I have every confidence that they'll be able to ask the question of someone more approachable that can answer the same questions with a smile on their face after several years. When you've spent more than three years here repeating yourself over and over again, come back and revisit this conversation and I'm sure your perspective will have changed. I love VST. I got very little feedback the few times I reached out while I was working towards goal, but I try to give back because of how that felt. But I am sick to death of the constant nicey-nice police patrolling every post out there dictating how exactly people are required to respond or ask questions here. I am not deliberately rude or offensive and I give really thoughtful responses that clearly take a lot of time. If my personal pet peeve is that people can afford the time to send a PM or make a post about a question, but not the time to actually see if it's already been answered seven million times before - sometimes the very same day they post! - well, that's understandable to those of us that have actually been here a while. Frankly, this is the very same lack of ownership and responsibility that bothers me about the entire process - people that don't want to do the work to make the most of their sleeve are here in abundance, too. They want the easy way. And that often translates into what I call (and try to avoid answering) "lazy posts" that address things discussed and beaten to death here. I promise - a thread about the three week stall is just as relevant if it's ten days old or a year old. I avoid a huge majority of posts nowadays just to avoid the frustration this brings. But then those posts wind up in my PM box, and that's why I very nicely and politely asked for advice, from EXPERIENCED VETS, on how they deal with the same thing. If I have to weed through and avoid posts, people can do the same thing if my posts offend them. There's a block button for a reason. I don't think there's a good reason to use it and never have, but if it makes people have the kumbaya experience they long for on the VST site, it will certainly help them out. To the vets that took the time to respond with thoughtful responses that actually address what I asked, I appreciate that. And Amytug - great idea, and one I'm definitely considering. ~Cheri

plateaued?!?!
Sassygirl06 replied to Jorgensensgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the three week stall....happens more often then not. Mine lasted about 4 weeks, then finally the scale started moving. Don't worry! This will pass, and you will start losing again. -
It is very common to have a stall at the stage you're at. Most people experience their stall between weeks two and three after the surgery, but for some it doesn't hit until four or five weeks out. You are actually only about 3.5 weeks out so I'd say you are in the normal three week stall so don't panic! I would say at this early stage you might want to consider one protein shake a day. I agree that it's best to get most of your protein from real food, but you are still really early out so one shake a day should help you keep your protein to recommended levels. Don't worry, the weight will come off when it's ready to.

I am 16 days post op and haven't lost anything in about 5 days, today I gained about .5 pound. I know this isn't a true stall but I was wondering if anyone has hit this wall so soon. So far I've done awesome and I am happy with it but I feel like I am failing already. I am busting my butt to get fluids and protein in, but find it almost impossible to hit them daily. I am also cleared for food and can eat about an oz at a meal. Most of the time it's a meat or a cheese stick ( for the protein). But I am really focusing on fluids over real food. I've also had a bad allergic reaction to the adhesive they used, so I am not sure if that is playing a role. I plan to keep up with increasing fluids/ protein as well as increase my walking. ( currently a mile 4-5 days a week) Is this normal? Did I hit the dreaded three week stall early? Thanks in advance

Looks like the three week stall from hell is over. Lost one pound. probably would have been more if it didn't coincide with my TOM but whatever. I'll take it. Feels good to have the scale move.

All of my December sleevers...
hepktty replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@popsicle: I was sleeved dec. 27, surgery weight 242 now I'm 215. I just got off a three week stall. It comes off as needed. Once the body adjusts to the new eating habits the pounds drop. Don't be discouraged. Keep it up! -
I like what Karen had to say.. I know it can be frustrating I am a "slow loser" but you have to trust the process. And don't starve yourself. In no way does that help. I find the when I drink more than 64 oz of Water a day it really helps the weight loss. Just don't give up you are so early out and the three week stall can last 3 weeks also! So you are right on track with that one

Sleeved on January 22nd feeling kinda blah
Sassygirl06 replied to kellimcc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a huge case of the blues after surgery. It's normal..and it's normal to hit a three week stall...you're right in that time frame. Defiantly stop weighing! You will start feeling better soon. And unlike with weight watchers...this actually helps KEEP the weight off! -
Average calorie intake
ialozano replied to Huntingnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going on 7 months on the 22nd. Averaging about 1000 a day. Excited to say that as of last Saturday at weigh in, i have lost 100 lbs!!! Had hit a three week stall in January. My nut told me to up protein intake. Once i upped it from 60 to 70, i started losing weight again. She converted my weight in pounds to kilos. Then multiplied kilos by 1.05 to figure out what my protein should be. -
All of my December sleevers...

last PCP visit November 8th. 280 lbs Day of Surgery December 5th. 277lbs Today 247.6 I have fought a major three week stall during this time. To break the stall I had to accept that this is going to take work on my part and not just restriction of volume of foods. I do the following limits Calories 800, Carbs 50, Protein 80. I walk on uphill incline 30 mins trying to maintain 3 mph and goal is 5 days a week. During the stalls I had calories 1000/ carbs and protein 100. I was also a lot less on the exercise. I anticipate more stalls because being obese my entire life my body is desperately trying to hold on to the weight. I think that during stalls it is important to do a cycle of 2 or 3 days higher intake without stoping the exercise. This tells the body it is ok to burn more is incoming. This journey is a battle for me! -
I was sleeved on 12/28 and so far I'm down about 23 pounds. But I lost most of that in the first three weeks. For the last two weeks I've only lost about 2 pounds and its driving me crazy! I know about the three week stall and I hope that's all it is. I'm 5'9" and started out at 260, now at about 238, but the scale actually went UP a pound over the last few days which really kills me! Anyways, do these stalls break themselves? Do you have to exercise to break out of one? Do you have to go ultra low carb to break out of one? This stall is why I always failed at diets in the past - when they inevitably occur, it's just so demoralizing! This

I have been on a three week stall as well, could the folks who are getting out of it post how many calories and protein they are getting a day? I just upped mine a bit , program has me on 300 cal. And 30 grams of protein on average. Walk everyday. Not supposed to have shakes or snacks with my 1/4 cup meals 3x a day. Think it should be more. -
October 2012 sleevers whats your progress?
Ontheroadtoslim replied to Indigoflgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 10/31. w 257 SW 249 CW 215. Going good....working out with a trainer and doing lots of cardio. Can eat pretty much whatever I want. Eating all the protein is still impossible without the aid of 1-2 protein shakes per day. Carbs are my weakness.....eating is so much more comfortable with the carbs. Three week stall has made me lose them though and go back to protein only. -
Whats the longest stall you have had and at what month did u stop losing?
dlinnh replied to loveit1222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the three week stall ended with this past week and a 4lb loss. and now that's it again for days - the same #. I am happy to hear your story Cheri as it gives me hope that although I am a slow loser I will get there. Thank you for sharing. I truly wish I did measurements prior to surgery as I know things fit better on me even if my scale is "broken" lol. -
MY NUT ADDED CALORIES AND I'M TRYING TO GET THEM IN
ultravas02 replied to mandyMO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for my 4 week post op visit and I didnt know about the three week stall and I talked to the PA about my weight loss stall and she told me that I wasnt losing because I was eating too few calories. She told me I had to eat at least 1000 calories a day. I managed it for a few days, but I am back down to about 850. I am getting all the protein in, but its just so hard to get those calories right now. I am trying, but some days I don't get there, but I do get my protein in.
