    JUNE 2020 BYPASSERS

Hi all. By passers will be able to get liquids down pretty easily. Much easier than sleeve patients as bypassers no longer have their pyloric ( sp?) valve intact. Sleevers do. so don’t worry about liquids sliding down easily if you are a bypass patient.
  2. If you can stand it three more years, Medicare will cover it. I had a similar situation like yours...when they did my revision they found the band had slipped and caused a large hiatal hernia. I went with a bypass rather than a sleeve since I had a history of GERD before getting my lap band. The Medicare and my supplement paid for everything but the psych consult and the dietician visits. You might find an obesity advocate law firm to challenge the age restriction on your policy. It sounds illegal! Good luck--I hope you can find a solution to your dilemma!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

July 23rd for me, gastric bypass Sent from my LM-Q720 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Hello everyone! I had mine 5 days ago at Oasis of Hope Tijuana. Got home safely. Long plane ride from San Diego to Orlando, I also had to postpone mine in March.. finally done w Gastric Bypass. 5 days out
  5. Yes I had RNY bypass didn't feel hunger for months
  6. It depends on the surgery you have too. From what I’ve read, it’s much more common for VSG patients to have hunger pangs post surgery, while bypass patients usually don’t. I’m almost 2 weeks post VSG. I have been hungry, but it hasn’t been unmanageable. Some of it is just suggestibility, because my husband and sons are still eating as they normally would. In my limited experience, starting drinking water and protein as soon as I get up helps manage my hunger throughout the day. If I get behind I feel weak and tired and it’s hard to catch up.

    I’m so upset

Any chance this surgery made you lactose intolerant ? I read that after bypass that can happen and make you bloated ect..
  8. Agreed. Daily shakes definitely worked for you. My experience after getting sleeved was not getting the right nutrition. After a year, I relied partly on shakes and protein bars. I felt light headed, weak, and didn't find pleasure in anything. I relaxed my diet, felt better, but gained weight. Prior to my revision I discussed this with my nutritionist and she recommended getting protein from natural sources instead. The benefit is that you eat a meal and have the dining experience. Shakes go quick and may not register as a meal to some people. This forum is a great place to share our experiences and get information we may not get from the professionals.
  9. I did liquids only for two weeks post OP with the same 2 week pre-OP diet. This included Shakes, Sugar Free or fat free versions of pudding, jello, popsicles, soup broth, gatorade, yogurt, milk. I was never hungry. Now I'm on puree foods including liquid diet items plus eggs, melted cheese or string cheese, mashed potatoes, yogurt, bananas, peanut butter, applesauce, lean ground meats like turkey, and cooked carrots. I'm reluctant to eat because I'm just not hungry, I keep to a schedule and make sure to get all the required protein and fluids. Regarding your question about energy levels, I found only consuming 700 to 1000 calories per day is great for weight loss but tough on keeping up my energy. I am recovering so I rest a lot and deal with feeling a bit weak. I'll change my diet to soft foods this Monday and increase my calorie intake. My most recent surgery was a revision to DS. Keep in mind, the goal is to progress in stages to a reasonable, healthy, and sustainable diet. The liquid or puree diet should be discontinued on schedule as they will not meet your long term nutrition goals. By the soft food stage you should have a plan to get all your protein from real food. Avoid high sugar, fried, processed or refined foods. Avoid caffeinated, carbonated, or high sugar drinks. Consume only limited amounts of bread. Bread should be toasted. Select whole wheat. Protein bars and protein shakes are not real food.
  10. I was on Just shakes for months personal preference with bypass literally didn't feel hungry
  11. I feel i need to share my story I may be one of the lucky ones but my journey has been nothing short of AMAZING. spent probably half my life obese and hating myself until I found of out about WLS. It has changed my life completely. It has made everything so much better. I got up to my highest of 322 lbs with multiple comorbidities including diabetes. I thought I would die young and gave no future but now the future is looking so good. leading up to surgery I made sure i did a ton of research and finally decided on RNY BYPASS and it was the best decision ever. Obviously i had my reservations going into this journey I didn't believe the bypass would really change my metabolism as much as it has. I made sure I researched all the local surgeons and made multiple phone calls before I decided. overall the process here in Australia was pretty straight forward and I was in surgery within 3/4 months of my consultation with the surgeon. I had to pay a gap but that covered everything all appointments and the hospital stay where I had my own private room and personal nurses. had very few actual prerequisites to the surgery and dealt with the actual surgeon personally. the surgery went smoothly and I was given good drugs so I was out cold for a full day for some reason I was in alot of pain so couldn't even leave my bed for like 2 days and slept most of that time. here in Australia they don't kick you out of hospital until your 110% recovered so I stayed for 6 days and it was great... I personally decided to start making changes before surgery and started a diet of protein shakes and lost 57lbs before surgery day and my weight loss has been steady and consistent and as of today I'm 164LBS and feeling amazing and I never felt better. Its amazing to look and feel completely different and people actually treat me better. I never thought it was even possible to get this low and to look this good. I've been in maintenance mode now around 2 months at 165-166 but today for some reason I was 164 and like I'm literally not even trying to lose weight I'm eating so much more than I did the first 6 months. I'm counting calories but not stressing over every carb like I used to, I'm eating meals most days but still supplement with shakes. I was very lucky to only have one stall in this whole journey. no complications at all and I feel like a new man and hoping to find myself a nice wife one day and start a family 😃😃😃 if you have any questions or comments much appreciated 😁 Before and after photos below 322 VS 165

    I’m so upset

I'm sorry you've been very unlucky one of those 1% that have bad complications with bypass. I had bypass nearly 8 months ago and had no issues what so ever so it's hard to see others suffer.. it will get better.

    Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!

The last time I was called tiny was when I had my hysterectomy before I regained weight. I never considered myself tiny. Short yes. My face has always been round. I’m not sure how well the Hair style suits me but I like it this way. I took one picture of myself to compare to the only photo I have prior to my gastric bypass surgery which was at the zoo. The most unflattering bent over feeding a flamingo taken by the zoo. It was my birthday and it was nice to be around the birds but I was miserable. I haven’t Had the guts to share them. I don’t consider myself very nice looking. I don’t think about it much. I don’t know how much fun time we can have with many Covid restrictions in place. We will do our best. Tomorrow morning we head off to the airport for a very long day of travel. We have over a 3.5 hour layover in Georgia ... we get to California 7pm which accounts for 3 hour time difference, our bodies will be in 10pm mode ... we get to the airport, cross into Mexico and spend the night in the hotel. Then I think go to Hospital BC the next day. Where I’ll be for the full length of my stay ... Safe travels tomorrow, @Darktowerdream...and will be sending you good vibes Monday! ❤️ Thank you @ms.sss I really need it 🧡

    I’m so upset

Sorry Georgette. I have been told its too early yet and to give it a chance. I am hoping in the next several months we both will feel better about doing the revision. Hugs
  15. Sorry you are having all of this trouble. Do you have a bulge that protrudes still ? I took a calcium chew without food today and it was awful !! I kept dry heaving and had to go lay down. I truly dislike this revision and new way ugh. Prayers for you.
  16. Hey there ☺️ I’m in Australia so things may be a little different here, but I’m sure all our concerns would be on the same level 🤷‍♀️ i had the band removed in November after 10yrs of vomiting everything i ate (yay!! 🥳🥳) and now am a few weeks away from the MGB- my biggest problem after the bank removal was the gas in my shoulder- and I spent my first few hours post surgery walking around the ward swinging my arm around like a loony - obviously this is not going to be an option post MGB- does anyone have any suggestions?
  17. I’m having a bit of an episode tonight. This hasn’t been an easy journey so far. I got revised 5/27 and was in the hospital another 3 nights this week. One for a huge hematoma, it happens. 2 nights to repair some scar tissue, a very fast healer the doc said as it was twisting and I was vomitting bile and had a sour stomach. He went and repaired it. I feel gassy today being home. Trying to drink as much as I can but I just can’t do it. Even with the sleeve I had an issue with liquids. Especially water. Tonight I took two gas pills and within an hour now I vomited them right up. Omg! So scary. Here we go again. I’m so afraid. Did I make a mistake by getting the RNY. Will this be my life now moving forward. I recall the sleeve being easier. I’m so anxious tonight so excuse me if I’m rambling. I’m so sad. Why did i do this. Was it worth it. Should I have lived with the constant daily nausea and heartburn :-(( I

  19. I don’t think it’s heartburn. I’ve experienced heartburn most of my life. Had the revision and then re opened for scar tissue etc on Wednesday. Feel okay but feels like something is stuck in my throat and abdominal pain. Might be gas? Just took some charcoal capsules/anti gas. I hope this isn’t going to be a life long issue(s). I hope I didn’t make a mistake doing a revision.

    1 week pre-op diet?

I only had 3 days pre-AP diet. Full liquid diet. Premier shakes are you best friend. I had surgery on the 10th. I too am a lapband revision. Post op so far is similar to the band. But with a lot of nausea. Nothing I couldnt handle. Also, I found cold drinks like ice chips and cold water made nausea worse. I drank warm water and broth the whole time in the hospital. Good luck! You can do this!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

How do you deal? It's so hard..

I'm on the puree diet right now. I hope you stay strong and take it day by day. Each Post OP day was way better than the last. During my first week post OP I've taken my family to fast food restaurants and sit with them drinking water while they eat. I've cooked dinner or baked cookies or bread which I was not going to eat. For me, I am so sure I will follow the nutrition plan, it isn't tempting at all. They feel bad eating in front of me but I tell them it honestly isn't an issue. I did this twice, once for the sleeve, then once for the revision to DS. Something that made it even easier this year is that I dieted for 5 months prior to my surgery. I dropped all sugary foods, fried foods, and sugary beverages. Another thing that helps me is having a finite list of things I am allowed to eat. If I see or smell something else, I just say that's not one of the 10 things I plan to eat during this phase. I understand the position you are in now craving things you may have had recently but knowing if you eat them you could put your health at risk. There is definitely a need to set boundaries with your spouse regarding where he eats since this is troubling you.
