I am 13 days post-op and feeling wonderful! I know the pain of surgery varies from person to person, but I had minimal discomfort and was up and about the day of. I stopped pain meds after day 3 and went back to work in a restaurant within the week. I would absolutely recommend buying a travel pillow or one of those Peewee Pillowpet's. I bought the Pillowpet and it was definitely a lifesaver. I used it when getting in/out of cars, in/out of bed, and sometimes walking around if my tummy felt sore. The pressure helped to relieve any pain from moving. I also went overboard and bought a lot of broth and yogurt. I was allowed full liquids right after surgery, which included pureed Soups through a sieve, so I really lived on sugar free pudding, pureed soups, yogurts, and Protein Shakes. I actually tried SF Jello within the first few days, and something about the texture did not sit well with me. If I wanted something broth like, I used Lipton cup-a-soup cream of chicken, which was much more satisfying than broth alone. I also used peppermint tea the first few days post-op and can't say whether it helped with gas pains because I didn't get any til day 5 or 6, but it was definitely soothing. I did write a list on my blog of the things I bought, the things I actually used, and what I would recommend if I were to do it again. I am now on my puree/mushy stage, so I bought a Ninja kitchen pulse to send everything through.

If you can have a little cooler: I like Fage or Chobani yogurt. I buy the plain and mix with Splenda and frozen fruit. I pack it in the small glad bowls. If you don't have time for this, they also sell it in small containers with fruit on the side. Light string cheese with a slice or two of lunch meat wrapped around it. Cottage cheese. Buy a big container and pack your own or the grab and go size. EAS Carb Control Protein drink in vanilla. 17 grams of protein. My favorite protein is the powdered Gold Standard Whey in Vanilla. Take a measured scoop of it to work in a blender ball cup with 1 packet of Starbucks via instant decaf. Add Water, shake, and drink. 23 grams of protein. Lynda

So protein tricks that help me.. I start almost every morning with a protein shake mixed with half a cup of coffee and some ice (most of them are way too sweet for me to drink on their own) this knocks out 30grams of protein right off the bat. I usually also have either a light and fit Greek yogurt or Oikos Zero (both around 100 ish calories and 15 grams of protein) once a day. As other mentioned I also enjoy hummus which obviously isn’t as high protein as other things but it is low in fat/calories comparatively. I usually enjoy it with either sliced cucumbers or carrots (one thing a lot of people forget about is the importance of fiber that doesn’t come from grains/starch) I know you enjoy your English muffin and I’m ALL for enjoying the things that work for you but perhaps you could amp up the proteins and cut some carbs calories by only eating a half of an English muffin with cream cheese and then layer a little deli meat on top for extra protein? (Sliced turkey or ham would both be good with a little cream cheese or even smoked salmon/lox) When I’m working (super active Job as a bartender) I do drink a Fairlife chocolate protein shake at some point in the evening so that’s another 30 grams of protein. I do usually meal prep one actually cooked meal, this week I’m having 2.5 oz taco seasoned catfish, 2 tablespoons sautéed mixed veggies, and 2 tablespoons refried beans- I think that meals comes in at around 150 calories. If you need more protein snacks a lot of people like Quest products I think their chips are …okay… I don’t love them. I did find a brand on Amazon called IWON that is made out of brown rice, quionoa, and pea protein- they have a bunch of flavors and I like them better but they are a touch pricier and 180 calories a bag so I use those as a meal slot- but sometimes it’s good for on the go. Anyway I hope some of this is useful but either way I wish you the best of luck!

Brown Cow non fat Greek Yogurt has 23 grams of protein per serving and it is so creamy fantastic, I drizzle a little honey and tap some cinnamon and mmmm-mm! Good stuff.

Hi I'm looking to find a good yogurt that's sugar free or some with very little if any surgery that's recommended by your nutritionist after surgery

Fage 0 is my fav. It's available at my costco. I also liked Kirkland Fatfree Plain Greek Yougurt, but my Costco no longer carries it. My two fav ways to eat greek yogurt: Smoothie: Blend the amount of yogurt you can eat (at 2 months I could do 1/2 cup, now I can do 1 cup), some Splenda, a splash of OJ, 1/4 cup Water, and a couple of frozen berries. Yum! Yogurt parfait: Stir some water into the amount of yogurt you can eat (at 2 months I could do 1/2 cup, now I can do 1 cup) to make it a thinner conistency. Stir in Splenda to taste. Top with Splenda-sweetened berries. I buy the big bag of mixed berries from Costco and defrost 1/2 cup then stir in a couple tablespoons of Splenda. Lynda ("Greek Yogurt helped get me to goal!")

Sleeve complication
brendaleecantu replied to Mrs. Lincoln's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 3 weeks post op and for the past 3 days I have been so nauseous and throwing up at least once a day. My doctor advice Pepdid AC and nausea meds. He thinks it's acid reflux that is causing my nausea. I feel horrible! I am so weak. I am able to drink Water all day and I can eat light foods like Jello and yogurt but I can't do proteinuria shakes. I just want to feel normal again!!! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App -
I was really hungry the first couple of weeks post surgery while on liquids. Not sure of your plan but it helped me to not be so hungry to have creamy Soups, thinned yogurt and keeping up on my Protein shakes. I've moved up to purees now and that helps even more. Make sure you're getting in all you're supposed to. You will make it through.

I would ditch the shake and Protein bar, and start adding in tuna/chicken/egg salad, or cheese. I stayed on mushies/purees/soft solids for a long time because it was the only way I could get in the required calories. If you can replace the shake, bar, and soup with a more calorie/nutrient/protein dense meal, I think you'll find it easier to hit calorie goals. Mix chicken/tuna salad with hard-boiled eggs and greek yogurt, it'll keep carbs low, but increase calories/protein. I sprinkled the dry ranch dressing into my chicken/tuna salads for flavor. Deli meat with cream cheese rolled up was a good source of protein and calories, easily chewed down to mush, and packed a couple hundred calories per meal. Ground meat (turkey or beef) with marinara or alfredo sauce or a cream of soup was staples for me as well. Ground meat with taco or fajita seasoning with cheese and greek yogurt was a meal as well. You'll notice as the weeks pass that you'll be able to get in a little more food each month until your sleeve reaches mass capacity. If I follow the rules, even at 21 months, I can not consume more then 3-5oz of dense protein. By rules, eating slow, not stretching my meal out over 20 minutes, and no drinking while eating. I'm a rule follower about 85% of the time, but in maintenance there is a bit more laxity in my meals. I often stretch my meal out over 40 minutes, and I sometimes sip with my meal(not drink, but a few sips here and there to wet my whistle). It's what I have to maintain my current weight. I don't have enough time in my day to eat 6-8 small meals, so I need to get my calories/protein in about 4 meals per day.

Labor Day Challenge 2012
Giselle3264 replied to jhansen71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three weeks post op Challenge weight: 203.4 Last week's weight: 199.4 Today's weight: 192.8 (down 6.6 pounds) Goal weight: 180 (down 10.6, 12.8 to go) Starting to each purees and I'm shocked by how little I can eat! But I love having tuna, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and refried beans. Yum! This beats a liquid diet any day. To get off the rest, more liquids, more protein, and stick to the exercise. Doing well on tasks but need more fluids and protein to really meet this goal. -

So what are you unable to eat now?
FluffyChix replied to mlmx1138's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try them soft boiled (6.5minute eggs) with a 1/2 tsp of real butter. Or a dollop of grk yogurt. They go down very very easily. -
July 2023 buddies?

Monday 16th? What op did you have? My Nutritionist won't let me have yogurt until Friday. -
Robgoblin, The ladies have a point. Eat something. One member mentioned that she made a shake with yogurt, milk, and ice for dinner. I tried that and it was yummy. Maybe you can try that, Robgoblin. Variety would certainly make it much easier for all of us. What are all the food items that have similar nutritional content/value/restriction to yogurt, cottage cheese and/or chicken breast or more important, to the purpose of this exercise - which is to shrink the liver? If there is a list, it would make the pre-op diet much more tolerable. That is one thing that could be improved upon by the TLBC clinic. I was told that Dr. Coubourn/Mumford's clinic allows its pre-op diet to include (aside from Optifast) various green vegetables. Contrary to TLBC, their clinic disallow dairy products. I am going to contact TLBC to enquire about the matter. I'll let you know once I get an answer. Maybe you can eat something then. Of course, you can contact them yourself as well to get a quicker answer. I am starting my 4th day of pre-op diet today. It is not as bad as I thought. I thought that I would feel very uncomfortable with seeing other people eat real food but I am actually not. Last night, my family and I went out for one of those scrumptious multi-course chinese dinner. Of course, I could not eat a thing on the table but I was generally o.k. with it. The one thing that was hard to resist was the scallop fried rice - so yummy looking. Trying to explain why I could not eat the food was more uncomfortable than not eating itself. Luckily, no one questioned me when I told them that my doctor has put me on a very strict diet to bring my weight down because my blood pressure is too high. This support site has been tremendously helpful to all us that are trying hard to hang in there. Thank you very much to everyone.

It is Officially May 2....only 2 full days of pre-op diet left...then a sleep and waking up and BAM going to clinic. I am going to be soon...so that means i have to deal with the hunger for 12 hours tomorow...YAY!!! In the week....first day i had yogurt 3 large containers...second day half a large container...afternoon day 2-day 6 zero food. Day 6 evening...had a stupid taste of pizza...was really pissed at myself...but i'm not worried about it. Day 7 had some pickles ( other diets have them in it, plus they dont have fat, carbs, sugar...Just salt...which it says on our official pre-op diet thing that you can eat...i'm still on the fence whether it was an ok choicee....but its done) And today...nothing. So basically...i'm not worried, im sure my liver is shrunk, but i'm not chancing it...NO MORE eating anything other than what is on the sheet. I think tomorow i'm picking up some crystal light...add some flavor to my water. And some sugar free jello. That will add something i can bite into.

Jannet, As of this morning, after 6 full days of pre-op diet, I have lost 8 lbs (haven't changed my ticker yet. I'll wait till tomorrow). I think everyone is different. Robgoblin said he lost 20 lbs in 6 days. Maybe that's because he did not eat for a few days. For me, in the last couple of days, I ate but barely because, yogurt was starting to taste yukky and I just did not feel hungry. I only ate to get some substance in my stomach. In the first 3 days of my diet, I ate much more and I only lost 3 lbs.

Hey everyone, well yeah...since day 1 of pre-op diet, i havent been eating...is that bad. The first day i only ate yogurt, second day...maybe a half cup for the whole day and since then...nothing. Im drinking water because the thought of yogurt is gross.. and i dont like cottage cheese. I'm definitely craving food like crazy, but the thought of yougurt makes me sick. I would kill for anything to eat...and i still have 5 days to go....AGHHHHHHHHHH
-
Robgoblin: ya better start eating man....as unappetizing as yogurt is to you. Hey, I get it...I refused to eat cottage cheese, but I did eat more yogurt to make up for it. You really HAVE to eat....otherwise you will make yourself sick and you don't want to be sick for your surgery.....or so weak that they can't do it....ya know? So, try and suck it up and eat the yogurt...it IS the lesser of two evils!! You don't want your surgery to be post-poned and you don't want to be so weak you will have post-op problems..... GO EAT SOME YOGURT YOUNG MAN!!!!! :guess :hungry: :paranoid

Hey guys, I haven't posted in awhile but I'm doing well, I've cut out some of my ice cream habbits and I lost a couple pounds yay! It really is mind over matter pelo, get some frozen yogurt and keep it in the freezer for when you get a major craving, it worked for me.... I went to try on my maid of honor dress for my best friends wedding yesterday and when I got sized in Jan they wanted to order me a size 20 and I was like NO WAY, order me a 16! They thought I couldnt do it but when I slipped it on last night I was able to clasp the top and zip almost all the way up! I think about 10 more lbs and a body shaper thingy and it would be perfect! YAY Anway, I thought I'd share lol Keep up the good work girls!!!

Jamie...I've given up on breakfast and I usually eat a pretty soft lunch. Usually by dinner I'm fine. Protein shakes...protein powder, yogurt, fresh fruit...are a great breakfast. You get used to it. By the way....isn't it March? Shouldn't we have a new thread? LOL!

i actually lost all of that weight in a week! lol..that is why i am not weighing anymore. dr. wellborn says that most people lost quite a bit right after surgery because they lose the Water weight that they carry around. he told me that ketosis would start around day 9, i think i'm getting there. i do not have strept (thank goodness) just a nasty cold...and the fatigue from ketosis. it is not as easy as i thought, being in the mushy stage. this is when your willpower is tested. for instance, brownies are soft :boink:. not to mention that you really get full fast. this morning i had a scrambled egg with cheese and i wasn't completely full so i grabbed some yogurt. about 2 bites later and i was stuffed. if you focus on eating your Protein there really isn't room for much other food. i'm still trying to figure out how i can get that much protein in a day.

I had my sleeve done 2 weeks ago on the 15th and I'm feeling pretty good. I've lost 10 lbs since the day of Surgery. I don't know if that's good or not. I'm having a very hard time getting protein in. I can't stand shakes at all. I get super nauseous from the first tiny sip! I've been eating cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to get some protein in, but that's about it. Water is also hard, plain water is nearly impossible. Flavored water I can drink about 24 oz a day. I'm worried about my nutrition! Any suggestions???

Mimmosa, I have sleep apnea also but I don't even have to bring my cpap with me, which initially they said in papers to bring. So I'm going to pack it in the car anyway. I'm just taking a pair of Danskins, they're not sweats but a long pant with a loose waistline and a hoodie. My instructions also say to have a pillow or two in the car to hold on your stomach while traveling and maybe hitting bumps in the road. As far as suggestions for pre-op foods, after a while they all suck...lol. I can have V8 juice so that helps and I also blend my drinks in the magic bullet with some ice. Takes a little longer to eat/drink them. I also get yogurt. So I buy a Greek yogurt in either plain and add splenda or the fruit flavored ones that are FF but loaded in Protein. Chobani is the one I buy. Good Luck. Mine is Monday but don't know time until after 1:00 pm tomorrow. Trisha
