THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD

To the contrary. Eating several small meals per day will help to keep your bs stable. Worst thing for bs is to skip meals and only eat one or two larger meals. give it a shot and see how it goes.

6 days since surgery and my abs finally aren't hurting.

Bruno was a rescue My wife found for me two December the 28ths ago. He was less than 24 hrs from being put down. He was scared and had been abused. It took alot of time to get him to trust us (around the first 6 months he wouldn't come in the house without me using a leash. He just laid on the back porch scared. He loves everyone and all animals now. He loves his walks and hugs. This is mouse, she almost didn't make it at around 3 weeks when I found her and nursed her with goats milk till she could eat on her own. She is a daddies girl. Milo is my 5 yr old 22lb male that demands my attention at least 10 times a day. I found him during a walk, Milo was around 6 to 7 weeks old and starving. Fed him tuna and wet cat food till he was filled out. He and Mouse still shares my tuna. Everything in this house is fixed except me.

    Blossom Bariatrics Las Vegas NV

Hi! Yes, I had my VSG with Blossom on December 23. I really liked their fast track procedure and have had no issues (other than hunger at times) since then. I was supposed to have my procedure right before Thanksgiving but when I got there, my BP was way too high and they sent me home to get it under control. I was at first angry bc I had told them I had high BP, but in the end it was fine. In retrospect, I was really stupid to have not gotten it under control to begin with. And they paid fof the second hotel stay, so all good. The people at Blossom and at Warm Springs (where the surgery is done) are all so nice. Many have had the procedure themselves. They put you up in a hotel nearby, and they have drivers that take you to and from your appointments. They are also so nice, and 2 of them have had the surgery. I was concerned about the billing having read some bad reviews. But I've had no issues at all, I paid the upfront quoted fee and nothing else. Let me know if I can answer any other questions!
  5. Hi everyone! hoping for your help! I am one day away from being four weeks postop (VSG Dec 16, 2019) and I made myself some hummus today but the consistency was very grainy and I only had a couple of teaspoons but then I got super scared that The grains or the skin of the chickpeas might get stuck in my stitches and cause a leak or something...so I stopped eating....but now I’m freaking out!! Help!! Thoughts? Should I call my nurse tomorrow? Thanks! Neda Vancouver, BC

    The No Excuses Support Thread

Totally agree with @FluffyChix I just see those so called studies as people making excuses for eating crap because some obscure study says all calories are the same; which is total absolute BS! It's the same people who complain that they are slow losers and wonder why!? It's not rocket science people!

  8. TanyaKat, $1100 co-insurance for the procedure vs. the "let's-try-iron-supplements-for-6-weeks" is what I'm referring to as BS. I have to wait 6 weeks to take the procedure anyway, so why not try the pills first? The clinic just wants the insurance money and my co-pay. I see a lot of people in WLS forums, social media, and blogs talk about their husbands, kids, grandkids - those are reasons to fight cancer, which I just don't have. For me, the results of a colonoscopy are irrelevant. Treatment is not an option. The quality of my life is more important than the number of years I live. When I was younger, I hoped that if sought out God, became educated, helped people, and created an interesting life to share, then men might see past my looks and one might want to marry me. Now, I'm 41, black and educated - I have a better odds of becoming president - of Russia. :) This surgery, followed by some cosmetic work, is my only chance to turn things around. I refuse to allow a greedy clinic and irrelevant tests delay that process.

    December Surgery dates???

Hey @eporter!! I've been doing really good. I feel great, incisions are nicely healing. I started purees this week. That sucks that you still have to be on liquids. I thought I was going to die bc I just couldn't handle anymore liquids. I'm struggling to get in my 64oz of liquids. With the protein shakes I can hit my 60g. I do 4oz of french vanilla premier protein, 2 oz of fairlife skim milk, 1/2 scoop peanut butter powder and 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein and blend with ice. It tastes good and finally something not sweet! And that is 30g of protein right there in 6oz. The PB helps cut the sweetness which I'm so thankful for. I have the Optisource chewables and I don't like them either. I try and space out the 4 tabs threw out the day and take like 3-4 bites of the tab to finish it. That has helped because the first time i put the whole thing in my mouth to chew and that was so gross! I go back to work on Monday. I hope that will help me get back in a routine because at home I'm not doing much at all. We went to the zoo and the mall so got in lots of steps there and did good. When I bend over to pick up stuff is still uncomfortable. Have a Happy New Year everyone!!!

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Ok, bummer that I didn't stick the 129.4lb landing this morning. I was so close! LOL. This morning I'm at ticker weight 130.4lbs which is a great place to start my usual TCB M-Th regimen. It's gonna be an interesting week with NYE and NYD. Traditionally these are HUGE party days for my family with big meals and lots o' wine & Irish whiskey. Am going to figure it out though. I know I can make a bunch of swap outs with an Eat This Instead of That attitude along with asking myself if XYZ is worth the scale bounce the following morning! So today is IF until lunch for a 16:8 with PP in the morning. Some say that isn't really fasting...but my whole day is very low low cal for an ADF approach. And many docs say as long as you stay below a certain caloric threshold that it really doesn't matter if you eat those cals all at once or spaced through the day. Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 29 Maintenance : 5'4" / 22mo PO RNY / 130.4 lbs ---------------------------------------- I continue to approach NY at the bottom of my weight window. First year evs. As in EVS! I'm very proud of myself. And it wasn't even that difficult--just took making a handful of small changes. #barihealthylife #winningwls #imbacnow #bacrules B1-Protein Latte x 1 (1oz PP) B2- 7/8 Salmon Breakfast Taco (lchf) with avocado + 1.5oz power greens + 1/4c radish hashbrowns L- remaining breakfast taco AS-apple yogurt cottage cheese with cinnamon D-Big Ass blackened salmon salad (2oz salmon, 1/2oz rf feta, 14g baby arugula, 10g cabbage, 1oz romaine, 10g po, 14g rbp, 36g cucs, 6g pumpkin seeds, 2tbsp WF Italian Dressing BS-1 square LoLo Cheesecake with whipped cream and 1/2oz blackberries Daily Totals: 994cals; 70g protein; 59g fat; 56g carbs; 20g fiber; 36g net carbs

I took stool softeners. They were the Walmart brand si they were cheap and effective. I would def take something bc 11 days is a long time.
  12. Colonoscopies can save your life, so I wouldn’t call it BS. They do need to find out why you have the low iron count. I had to have an endoscopy for my sleeve, and the GI doctors suggested both at the same time. I’m glad I got it done and out of the way. With insurance it wasn’t that much.

    Person of Size

Southwest and other airlines have a "person of size" policy (or that's what they used to call it) regarding when you have to buy 2 seats. I think southwest did change that policy somewhat to make it less of a fat shaming event (like when they used to make people purchase a second ticket as they were boarding bc of their size). So it's been out there for awhile.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Thursday, Dec. 265 Maintenance : 5'4" / 22mo PO RNY / 129.2 lbs ---------------------------------------- It's a continuation of the Christmas "mericle" folks. So far I'm sticking the landing and am still below the 130lb threshold. So I "might" be working on a new 5lb window? Early days and 2 more holidays to contend with. Funny thing is I don't have any sense of deprivation. I'm just kinda ambivalent. Sometimes I have a wave of "crush" for something, but it passes. Then other times, I just want my same old clean, lean, food. Sorry am swamped today--having friends over today then meeting friends tomorrow. So no time to food log today. House cleaning waits for no one! But had a gorgeous "Christmas Dinner" last night. Ended up having pan roasted turkey medallions with roasted smashed cauliflower, broccoli in brown butter and avo/tom dinner. And I made these kick - ass cheesecake bars (low fat, low carb) to which I added a 1/2tsp of Polaner SF Peach Preserves with Fiber + a few blueberries + a few toasted rosemary pecans and it was a phenomenal dessert. We're having that for tonight. And it doesn't seem to have affected the scale this morning, so there is that! Score! Hugs all around. B1-Protein latte X 3 (3oz PP) L-Big Ass taco meat lettuce cup (ate it in 2 meals) AS - 1/4c 2% cottage cheese + black pepper (TY @ms.sss) + 1/4oz rosemary roasted pecans D-pan roasted herb & mustard crusted turkey medallions + smashed roasted cauli + broccoli in brown butter + avo/tom salad + cabernet (Oh Jan 1 is coming and it will be a tee-totalling dry month or 3!) BS-low carb low fat cheesecake bar with 1/2tsp of Polaner SF Peach Preserves with Fiber + a few blueberries + a few toasted rosemary pecans + vanilla yogurt "whipped cream" + decaff coffee. No totals today! Sorry!!
  15. Thanks for the advice. I just feel so frustrated. I felt hope for the first time in years and a BS colonoscopy getting in the way felt deflating. Thank you!!

    The Maintenance Thread

Yup. All mine said was my bone density. It was in the 90-100 percentile, which is awesome. getitng a baseline is a great idea though bc we can’t depend on that extra weight helping us keep our bones healthy.
  17. You may want to snap a pic or two and shoot them over to your doc so he's aware of what's going on. The elevation will help you hopefully! It could just be post-op/drains out stuff or it could be a lymphedema issue and you might need lymphatic drainage--it will be super painful at this point. I have stage 2 lymphedema from BC so have to wear a compression sleeve and glove all day every day until night time. It's a very tight garment and takes getting used to. I also keep my arm propped up all day above my heart on 2 big pillows to encourage it to drain back into my chest and trunk and then at night it's propped up on pillows whenever I'm in a chair and or laying down. By staying on top of it, I keep it from getting out of hand, but it can quickly go back and get cellulitis. Super painful and glassy almost transparent skin, swelling, leaking of lymph fluid. It gets hot to the touch and brite red. Is yours doing anything like that? If you do not know how to wrap your arms for lymph compression or don't have the proper tools, you can totally make it worse and trap the fluid in your arms/hands as the girls already mentioned. It might be time to ask for a consult to a lymphedema specialist to help you with wrappings and lymph drainage. ((hugs))

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Wednesday, Dec. 25 Maintenance : 5'r" / 22mo PO RNY / 129.4 lbs ---------------------------------------- It's a Christmas "mericle" folks. This is THE first Christmas on the face of the earth where I weigh LESS the day after Christmas than I did the day of or on the days leading into the holiday massacre er, I mean festive season from Fatsgiving through Epiphany. I call it...the time of great tribulation...ha! Cuz I usually gain 5-10lbs quite quickly. But this year, I've been able to have very small shenanigans but stop myself from full-out horrific faceplants into all things yummy and food related by asking myself the simple questions: 1. Will this bite or plate of XYZ give me MORE enjoyment of this time if I ate it? 2. Is it worth the swallow? 3. Will I be disappointed in my choice tomorrow? 4. Will I be disappointed with the reading on the scale in the morning as a result of this bite or plate of food? 5. Is there a compromise or a "better option" to have the taste without the pain? 6. Is this bite/plate contributing to my health and greater well-being or contributing to my death. By the time I get to #6 and drink a glass of water, I usually go, "Meh...not so much," then walk away!!!! And the result is...I broke the 130 barrier!!! Who knew? I'm sure it won't stick the landing, lol, but still. Feels good to be 4lbs away from BDG Goal even if it is by accident! LOL. Then yesterday (Christmas), I did have a small blowout. But it wasn't enough to move the scale a bunch! Today it's back to business as usual for Thursday!!! Wooohooo! B1-3 protein lattes (3oz PP + Reddiwhip) - hell yes, talking bout you SF Peppermint Mochaccinos with Whipped Cream B2-Yogurt scrambled eggs with green onions + turkey sausage + radish browns + avo/tom salad + pears with cinnamon + lite bloody mary L1-Leftovers from B2 L2-A real bloody mary + 1/4 oz roasted salted cashews AS-Martini Bar Time: dirty martini extra olives + cheese board (3 cheese + turkey pepperoni + rosemary pecans + pear) + 1 glass of cab D-none still full BS-Halo Vanilla Sunday with rosemary pecans and SF Hershey's Choco Syrup + SF Smuckers Caramel Syrup + 1 glass of cab. Daily Totals were big for me! 1818 cals; 73g protein; 74g fat; 80g carbs; 15g fiber; 65g net carbs
  19. It depends on the day. Haha. In the early days, I ate 4-6 times per day. Now days I do a complicated rotation. It's the way I maintain my weight. This morning I was 129.4lbs--a Christmas Miracle I'm waiting to see if it sticks or not! If it does yay, if it doesn't I won't be devastated). But I'm at the bottom of a maintenance window I would not be sad to reduce by another 5 lbs to my BDG Goal = Barbie Dream Girl Goal. So it's business as usual for a Thursday for me = Meal 1: B1 - 3 protein lattes with 1oz of Premier Protein + 7 drops Vitacost Liquid Stevia + Decaff + ground cinnamon 1 cup tea (green decaff tea + Earl Grey decaff tea + 1 shot of unfiltered ACV + 1 lemon wedge + cayenne + ground cinnamon) Meal 2 (optional): B2 - I will either eat around 10-11 or I will skip if not hungry. Meal 3: L-Big Ass Salad (1 1/2-2c of salad + 2-3oz dense lean protein + 2-3tbsp Zero Cal Dressing + 1 serving healthy fat (I will eat this until full. Sometimes it's the whole thing and sometimes I finish the balance as my afternoon snack) OR Turkey Cheese Rollup with raw greens and veggies OR Green Soup OR Green Smoothie with fiber OR Can of Sardines and Raw Veggies Meal 4 (optional and regulated by hunger): AS-Either leftovers from lunch OR cup of Herb OX no sodium broth + baby greens + mushrooms OR 1 hardboiled egg OR 3-5 oz of raw veggies + 1/4c fat free Greek Yogurt Dip (Tzaziki, Ranch, Onion, Asian) Meal 5: D-3oz protein + 1-2oz veg + 1oz avo/1oz tom + 1 serving healthy fat or extra cheese Meal 6 (optional and regulated by hunger): BS-usually a decaff + 1oz Premier Protein OR 1-2oz underripe GS Apple or pear + 1tbsp nut butter OR 14g walnuts or almonds OR 1 square 90% Lindt Chocolate + 14g walnuts or almonds

    December Surgery dates???

Ballet was good. I was able to sit on their super plush couch which helped. I went straight home afterwards. When I get lightheaded I know it’s bc I haven’t drank enough fluids. It took 2 days of Miralax to finally have a BM. And boy was that difficult. I think I’ll continue Miralax one time daily just to keep things going. I’m barely able to get in my 64oz of fluids in. I felt it when I was walking around the store today. I had to sit down and wait while my hubby checked out. I found some PB powder to add to the protein drinks to start getting in my protein. How has your protein intake been if any lol

    Stomach leaks

I talked to my insurance company, they suggested a second opinion. My current doctor is the head of bariatric surgery at BS&W hospital in Plano. So everyone there knows her. I have to go to a center of excellence, as per my insurance. All of the other doctors names they gave me know my doctor. This is a nightmare, especially right now during the holidays. I don’t want to gorge on anything, but I would love to taste some. I’m sick of knowing nothing. I just never get answers. Maybe I’m not asking the right questions. I really appreciate your input. It makes me believe I’m not crazy for being upset over this process. Thank You!
  24. I"m 2 days postop today. I take 2 small sips that I would estimate is about 20-30ml (about 1oz). If I sip more than that at one time I feel pressure and uncomfortable. And everything tastes so SWEET! I have Gatorade Zero and it is extremely sweet that I need to dilute it. I've also tried Crystal light and barely add any of it to an 8oz glass bc it is also super sweet. Today so far I've had about 35 oz of liquids. This was much better than yesterday.

    December Surgery dates???

I had my surgery on Monday. My liver was nice and small and soft and the surgery lasted less than an hour! My husband said he got scared because the surgeon came back out so quickly but heard the good news. First day was a blur and slept most of it. I got up towards the end of the night and did 2 laps around the hospital unit. I came home yesterday early evening. My labs looked great and my pain was very well controlled on Tylenol and Tramadol. I only took 3 tramadols the entire day yesterday. Sleeping on my back is difficult bc it hurts too much to sleep on the side. My back is more achey than anything else. I don't have any pain at my incision sites but I just feel really bloated and as if I had a million sit ups and am sore. I've been getting rid of gas and every hour I get up and wake around my house for a few laps. Learning how small sips and how many sips to take is the hard part. I can do 2 small sips and then have to wait at least 15 mins to do 2 more small sips. I am up 6 lbs from the day of surgery but was told that is normal based on all the swelling I have. I have an old belly band that I should try. I'm holding my stomach when I walk around the house bc it makes it easier and no pulling on my incisions.
