    Dr. Lopez?

Hello there First off, I hope that your surgery went well. I'm thinking of having my band to sleeve revision with Dr. Lopez in Guadalajara and I was wondering what your experince was like. I would so much appreciate your feedback as I can't seem to finda as much info on this Dr as other Dr's in mexico. Many thanks!
  2. My surgeon recommended starting with the sleeve, and then at a later date it can be revised (if needed). If you start bypass then the sleeve would do no good.
  3. I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to gastric bypass, however I never heard of a mini bypass. Can you explain what the difference is?

    After Surgery

I tried cheese slice today, this was a transition food for me a week ago. My lunch slice was ok but dinner was a no go, right back up. I can say this much. I've lost interest in eating. Going back to Fluid and waiting a week to try food again. I believe I need to eat small, 2T meals seem to be my solid food limit. I chew, its not my problem. I can feel it block me up as just my syliva sends me running to vomit. Funny, I had this for years and my revision was supposed to stop it. Ah feeling sorry for my self... I'll give it a week and try to revisit food. I'm going to listen to my body. I'm eating from my allowed foods. I'm chewing, I'm taking pea sized bites and I'm taking my time. I'm just not ready for solids. When I am, I'm going smaller and more frequent. I am finding this harder then I want to admit. Sorry I'm posting so much, I'm a little lost right now.

    Scared Band-Less...

Oh God, Okay, so first I suppose I should give a little background about me.... I decided on 11/4/08 that I would look into Lab Band per the request of my pcp. My aunt and I decided to do this together as her endo has been after her to have the surgery for a year. Had our first appt at NEMC in Boston 12/15/08. They said banding wouldn't be an issue and thought it was a good choice because of my weight and blossoming health issues (high BP, chlesterol, diabetes). I was 242 at that visit. They told my aunt to think about bypass, because of her age, the amount of meds she's on to regulate the same problems I have and she is a heart pt. too. I went in last weds 1/14/09 for Immersion Day, where you meet with everyone and their grandmother (except for the surgeon). The shrink used the same arguments for the band to tell me to think about bypass! My aunt, they still said consider the bypass, which she is. Needless to say, I am a little wigged. The bypass to me is SOOOOOOO totally different than a band. Its like rewiring your insides versus sticking a scrunchie on your stomach. Plus there are more complications to think about, dumping syndrome, food intolerances.....and (I apologize if I offend anyone) I dont think I am sick enough or large enough for the bypass. Again, I dont mean to offend....I just think of the bypass as something more drastic for larger people with more health issues than I have.... So I need some advice, input, and HEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!! In a perfect world I would lose 100 lbs. Realistically, I'd like to shoot for 80-90 from my highest weight of 242. I know it will be harder with the band. But I am already down 10 lbs!!! Do I want to end up not losing weight and have to have a revision to the bypass? HELL NO!! Do I want to lose too much weight and look emaciated? NO THANKS! Do I like that its harder to lose with the band? NOPE Do I like the idea of rewiring my insides? NO WAY JOSE! But I guess I like the idea of working harder to lose the weight better than I like the idea of rewiring my insides and all the extra risks and side effects of a bypass...... Any help, questions, input, ideas or other thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!!
  7. Just a quick update on my flat stomach quest! I had a port revision last week, and am hopeful for the results :-) I'm still swollen and bruised, but I can't feel my port anymore! I've been taking some photos, and will post progress pics after the swelling goes down....
  8. I had a gastric sleeve surgery 9/2012. this year I have had horrific GERD. After the endoscope and swallow test ,they found the gastrointestinal hiatal hernia. The swallow test showed the hernia and severe GERD with divertculum on the stomach wall. I have a manometry test next week but my dr agrees that I need hernia repair and revision surgery June 16 is my surgery date.
  9. Hi everyone! Today marks one year since I got my lap band revised to gastric bypass. I've lost a total of 87 lbs so far. 275 to 188. I am 5'5" so I still have about 30-35 lbs I'd like to lose. I was very discouraged a few months ago, but I left my pity party behind and made sure I was sticking to eating well. This is not always easy! I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon in late August. I have some sagging skin on my stomach, inner thighs, and arms but nothing too horrible. Also of note, I have PCOS, which always made it harder to lose. The surgery has definitely helped with this and it seems to get easier to lose weight the more weight I lose. It seems counter-intuitive but I think the insulin resistance that often comes with PCOS has abated. I'll attach a before and after pic. Picture 1-I'm on the right holding my new nephew last June. Picture 2-selfie! Picture 3-me in the middle. I posted this on purpose so you can see that I will definitely need a tummy tuck.

    RNY to RNY revision.

Wishing you both every success. I know it is easy to get down about a revision not working as well as the original but I dug into a bunch of scientific articles and most say the average person loses 10-15% less than the original weight loss surgery. I know when I had my gastric sleeve in 2012, I lost too much weight so I am hoping my revision to RNY just gets me within10 lbs of goal and helps my acid reflux. II'm having my revision 12/2/21 and keep you both in my thoughts.

    Post op pain

Hi! I had a lapband to bypass revision yesterday and I am home today. I feel pretty good, but the pain when it hits is terrible. Can anyone tell me how long their post op pain lasted?

    Acid reflux despite Prilosec?

Kylebean, I had a revision from band to bypass in Nov 2012; I had had SEVERE reflux and esophogeal distention in my band prior to bypass surgery. During my surgery, the doctor "oversewed" my hiatal hernia (which I had for YEARS) and I still had heartburn immediately post-op. But, by about 3-4 weeks post-op, all heartburn was gone. I can't say I NEVER have heartburn now on occassion, but it is rare and it is usually my own fault because I overate. I am still on Protonix, but I am trying to go off it and/or only take it when I have heartburn for several days in a row....which, so far, I haven't. I don't know much about the "after-effects" of the sleeve, because I don't know anyone who has had it, but MOST people I know with a band have pretty bad reflux/heartburn; however, most bypass patients I know do NOT have it. I guess this isn't much help, but I think it shows that everyone is different and that, although you have it now, you may "get over it" as you heal from surgery. Five weeks out is not that far; you still will have a lot of healing between now and, say, 6 months or a year. Don't lose hope, but if you don't start seeing SOME improvement, definitely follow-up with your PCP or surgeon. You're doing GREAT!!!

    Ghrelin (hunger hormone)

How long does it take for the hunger to go away? I had my surgery (revision from lapband) on September 28th 2010 and at almost 6 weeks out I still feel hungry all the time and I'm eating too much. I lost about 15 lbs in the 2 weeks after surgery and since then NOTHING! I'm so upset and worried that this surgery has been for nothing and I'm not going to lose any weight. I eat alot less than I did before surgery though more than most of you seem to be eating, however, I eat often. My bougie size is a 34 but I don't feel I have the restriction I should. After I eat I'm good for a few hours but then I get hungry again and eat. I take Nexium every morning so it's not stomach acid. I track my meals on TheDailyPlate and I can get in up to 1500 calories if I'm not very strict with myself or as low as 900 calories if I really watch what I'm eating. I do notice that I'm not getting in all the Protein I'm supposed to. When will the constant hunger and cravings stop? I'm very, very worried.

    Intro

I am from GA. I am planning to travel to Mexico in the upcoming months for lapband revision to sleeve surgery. I would love to hear about your journey. What day did you have surgery?Recovery time?Preop/Postop tips?
  16. Normz956 and beachbum, you ladies are dong great! I had my initial RNY eight years ago and my staring weight was 383, by 18 mths post op I was down to 213. Maintained that for a few years, over the last couple of years I gained up to 266. I just had a revision RNY on 8/20 because my anastomosis was dialated. This is the best single thing I have ever done, without this I would of never gotten down to what I did, I chose to go through this again for several reasons but most importantly because I never want to go back to feeling like I did at 383 ever again! Good luck on your journeys and know that you ladies will succeed!

    Self Conscious....

Hey All, My name is Rebecca and I am almost 29 and married from NJ. I have about 70-80 lbs to lose....I had my band for a year and just got it removed two days ago. I am doing a 3 month medically supervised diet then revising to the sleeve in September. I know I have to kick up my exercise regime once my surgery incisions heal up. I am a big fan of yoga but have found it to be hard since I have gained weight (At one point I was down to a size 8/10 but gained the weight back to a size 20). I have a gym membership but find it hard to motivate myself to go because I am very self conscious of the way I look. I need to get myself to go and walk on the treadmill or go to one of their classes and not care if people look at me. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get over the gym jitters? Thanks!
  20. I can't eat after certain hours either. I can usually drink later than 8, but if I eat, it will cause coughing and some reflux of acid during the night. By the way, I have had 2 slips, and the lst one I had to have a revision to my band. I now have had to have a small amount removed, which took care of most reflux problems. Karen

    Got my lapband removed

I got my lapband remove 3 days ago. I will be having my revision surgery in about 2months. My doctor wants me to get the sleeve and at the beginning I was up to it, but asked some friends that had the gastric bypass and are doing great and had lost a lot of weight. Now I'm so confused. Don't really know which one to have. I haven't had either surgery, so I'm no expert, but based on my research: (1) The sleeve is not malabsorptive, whereas the bypass is. This means you'll run less risk of bone problems, Vitamin deficiencies, and probably not have to be on diligent consumption of Vitamins and supplements. (2) The sleeve seems to have a lower complication rate than the bypass and be simpler. (3) The bypass has a slightly higher average of weight loss. However, from what I've seen, the optimal candidate for the bypass is someone who is morbidly obese (by obese standards), and has let their weight spiral up to 500 or so, where they are having difficulty even ambulating and need a drastic intervention. My advice? Get the sleeve.
  22. Day 1: If you saw my posts in the revision section, then you know last Monday I started my preop diet in preparation for surgery next week. However, I have been nauseated and throwing up since Wednesday. (more nauseous than vomiting) I called the doc and spoke to the nurse who said she would get back with me and hasn't yet. So I decided today I would do liquids just for breakfast and have a small meal for lunch and supper. Breakfast will be: Coffee, protein shake, & water Just as the doctor ordered. My meals will be a meat protein with lettuce and tomato salad. I'm also taking gas-x strips to help move that gas out that's sitting on my stomach. 🤢 Yes, I'm feeling miserable, but I have to shrink this liver before Monday gets here.🙁
  23. Rush, while I am new to the sleeve, I'm not new to counting protein as I had to do so with the band prior to my revision. Some helpful ideas if you can't get the texture tolerable might be to use a blender and make your own shakes. One of my favorites has been vanilla powder with skim milk and add a banana and some peanut butter, but you can mix and match, add ice, use some water instead of just milk, use Greek yogurt, or try all kinds of different conglomerations to suit your preferences.

    Painnn

So I had my surger on September 24th and then had to have it revised on november 12th because my port flipped. Well ive been fine and losing weight but im starting to feel some pain right below my left breast. Its not major pain but it hurts if I lay on that side or bend over. I see my doctor in the morning but im paranoid and wont sleep thinking about it. Has anyone experienced this? I read that it could be a sign on slippage but I have no other symptoms at all. Anyways any insight would help! Thanks!

    Newbie Here

Hi Terri, I'm new here as well, but not new to WLS. I think you will find lots of support here. Just remember it is ok to be a little scared. It's surgery. I'm sure you will do great! I can tell you having had my band since November 2009 that you get use to drinking your liquid away from food. I always feel that I am too full to put one more thing down. Have faith. It takes some getting use to. Good Luck! Let me know if I can be of any help. Nichole Waiting to be sleeved as a revision!
