  1. Heyyyy it's yo girl. Got my arrival time for my butt lift and thighplasty tomorrow at 7:30 a.m., then 450cc silicone implants in-office on the 15th! Thus will conclude the plastic surgery journey. Prior to bypass I had a breast reduction w/ full nipple graft breast lift and full body liposuction. Post-bypass I had bra-line excision, arm lift, tummy tuck, and soon-to-be butt and thigh lift and implants. AMA! I'm officially an expert. lmao. There's nowhere else for them to nip and tuck! $$$$$$$$$$$ He was supposed to email me my before and after tummy tuck and arm lift but he forgot. I will post them this week when I remind him at my follow-up Friday.
  2. HI all, I am scheduled for gastric bypass on July 17th. I had the sleeve done in 2013 and i have gained it all back, i feel like such a loser, a failure and just sad. I am excited for this new chapter though but for some reason I am terrified about this recovery. My surgeon says I can be back at work in a week (i work in an office). Can anyone tell me about their recovery? I am looking for support because I will not fail. Also, the pre-op diet its horrible. I am struggling with energy, I have a 3 year old that does not care about my fatigued life. LOL. thank you to anyone who reaches out.
  3. Help!!! I'm almost 6 weeks post op. I stalled for about a week and when I weighed this morning, I had gained 3 lbs... is this normal? Also having trouble getting enough calories in. Any food suggestions? I have no protein restrictions now. Thanks!
  4. Well done finally making the decision. I had the bypass it was a quick surgery and easy recovery... Admittedly I was only 322 highest weight and a male but 35, so we're similar age. The bypass really worked well for me but I was very strict and no cheating or anything for a long time I've had great results lost all my excess weight and been in maintenance now for 2 months. It is possible you just have to be 110% mentally prepared for the changes ahead..

That's rough did you have any gerd symptoms before surgery? If it keeps causing you trouble you may need a revision surgery
  6. Hi all! Er, I'm not exactly a newbie, but I'm not a vet or anything either. I (Two or Three times) Have considered weight loss surgery and a day or two before surgery date, got too scared and backed out.) I'm curious as to see if there is any of you, who has been near my weight as listed on the topic, and have seen such amazing results? I'm also not steering clear of the bad side effects (Albeit; rare!) As well. I'm actually going to see my PCP tomorrow about getting a referral back into it! I am back, but this time, I'm dead set on going for the gastric bypass (RNY), As now, this time, I've acquired two MORE reasons (Health-wise) to needing to lose weight, and need a tool. I also have never been skinny, nor have I really ever lived my life. I Just turned 30! I hope everyone is being safe during this strange time, what with COVID and all! Also, Happy belated 4th of July!

    PREGNANT ! ! ?

First congratulations!!! Second, I know the feeling boo! Happened to me as well, had two gorgeous babies ... gained over 100 lbs both pregnancies...had gastric bypass surgery in August of 2016, lost 100lbs by Christmas, Christmas night got pregnant (didn’t find out until January when I went to my surgeon thinking I was dying from nutrition deficiencies bc I was so weak I couldn’t walk to the car from my kitchen without wanting to faint) he sent me for some blood work that same day & the lady taking my blood said “with all the symptoms you just described are you sure you’re not pregnant?” I said no, I’m dying I’m not pregnant! (Oh, I left out the fact I was on birth control 😩) she laughed & said “well how about we give you a test just Incase😊” I said okay, so I took the test...not even 3min later she popped her head in the room & said “well well well guess what?!” I said “no way!” She said “oh yes ma’am way, congratulations you’re having a baby!” She explained to me when you loose such a dramatic amount of weight so quickly your body assumes you’re super healthy and decides “it’s baby time!” I said but the birth control?’ She said, oh hunny when you are super fertile like someone gets after WLS not even birth control can stop what the Lord has already created” needless to say, I only gained about 20lbs, gave birth to my smallest of 3 babies (she was only 6lbs her brother&sister we’re both over 10lbs 😳) she’s the best blessing I have ever laid my eyes on. Pregnancy was a cake walk, I don’t know how but by the grace of God I was able to eat more during my pregnancy for her sake..after having her I dropped all my weight & some...your doctors will take great care of you, your baby will be beautiful & healthy! You’re healthy now, the weight will drop off when you have the baby So just breath, ask the Lord for His peace & help & sit back & enjoy the ride MOM 😉

Booked for bypass on August 10. Much sooner than I thought. I only really started seriously considering surgery two months ago. 😮

    Covid Test!

I had to have it 3 days before my surgery and it was a terrible experience for me but maybe it’s the person giving it that makes a difference? And btw I am 4 days post op and wish I had never got the bypass surgery, I am so sick and sore nobody tells you the aftermath of bypass surgery, I wish I could take it all back but what’s done is done, I wouldn’t advise anyone to have it, I thought I was at the end of my rope but I would gladly go back to a personal trainer and dietician to lose the weight it’s not worth it to me, please know the facts beforehand, I just pray I get better each day

    Are you cold?

I'm in Brazil. It's been 1 yrs and 6months since my bypass surgery and I always feel cold. Sent from my LM-X525 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I'll speak for myself I started at 322 and I'm now 165lbs and I had RNY gastric bypass and had no issues at all.. lost all my excess weight and only took 8 months I had a lot of restriction for months and lived off shakes. Didn't even feel like eating had no urge at all for months..
  13. Glad you are home and doing well. Its crazy being able to drink like that after surgery. I was able to do that as well. There are plenty of things you will be able to get down without making you lose that much weight. You will be surprised of how easy I am sure. Be very careful dumping is horrible ! I loved my sleeve too and miss it. Hoping someday I will feel better about this bypass, lol.
  14. I had my revision done on 6/29. There were a few little hiccups--after surgery I couldn't pee, so I needed a catheter, and I lost quite a lot of blood and needed 2 units of packed red blood cells transfused, which upped my hemoglobin level enough to where I'm anemic now but not fainting when I stand up. It was a long surgery, as I had three procedures done--a myotomy to fix the esophageal stricture I got from GERD, a hernia repair, and the RNY. I was originally supposed to come home on July 1, but my drain was still bloody and filling quickly, so I stayed until this afternoon, 7/3. I still have the drain, it's supposed to come out Monday. I have had two episodes of "heartburn" but neither were in my new stomach, but in the intestine, because the burning is above my bellybutton but below my rib cage. My stomach is much higher up and has not hurt at all. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I am not regurgitating everything I swallow and that I can sleep through the night without acid crawling up into my mouth. My nurse was quite concerned when I finished an 11 oz. protein shake in fifteen minutes, but the surgeon told her it was fine as long as I could tolerate swallowing things that fast. Because I'm at goal and don't want to lose any more weight, he also said for the next two weeks I could eat anything I could pour, but to be careful of sugar and fat content in case I dump. This brought back memories of a Saturday Night Live sketch called "Bass-O-Matic" (it's on YouTube, it's a hoot) but blending a whole fish is not on the menu. I have not had much pain, mostly gas because he had to operate so high up in the chest he put a lot of gas in. I came out of surgery with both eyes swollen shut because the gas seeped into my face, but it is mostly gone now. Now it looks like I have bags under my eyes. I loved my sleeve and tried everything to keep it but the GERD was just too bad. Hoping I come to love the bypass too.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I heard of all the cancellations and got worried, but have been assured by my surgeon that I am good to go. He stated he was fixing a hernia at the same time as the Gastric Bypass, so I won't be cancelled. 11 more days till surgery, getting excited to start this journey. The Pre-Op is not so bad when I think about it one day at a time and make the decision everyday to stay on track. Good luck to all. Keep Smiling.
  16. Now that's definitely true. I remember a post a few months back from some poor guy struggling with losing too much weight after a bypass, which is definitely a real thing that sometimes happens. The first people here who responded to him were "nice" enough to believe him, and he was so grateful that a few people were taking him seriously and not accusing him of lying or looking for an excuse to cheat on his diet or trying to sabotage others. I felt so bad for him. It was kind of like the rescue dog I had in my 20s, who always seemed to look at you like "thank you for not beating me." Opinionated arrogant a-holes are everywhere though, unfortunately. Some of the comments on that Roxane Gay article were from people in the fat acceptance movement who seem to view anyone who gets WLS as a traitor. That ain't healthy either.

    Post op diet

They do vary a lot by surgeon, but they don't seem to change much between a sleeve or a bypass. My surgeon's plan was very restrictive at the beginning - no fluids by mouth except ice chips until they did a leak check about 38 hours after surgery. Then I was on clear fluids for a week, and full fluids for another week. In contrast, other people say they were offered fluids right after surgery, were on full fluids when released, and moved to purees after only a week. On the other hand, my surgeon's plan had me on normal food after a month with no long term restrictions other than carbonated soda (which they ban forever). Other plans may take 2-3 months to get you to mostly normal food, and tell you to wait even longer for certain things, like 3-6 months for raw veggies or 1 year for caffeine. Here's a representative diet plan with a really detailed list of foods for each stage. https://www.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/~/media/Brochures/TuftsMC/Patient Care Services/Departments and Services/Weight and Wellness Center/GBP Diet Manual12611.ashx
  18. This is basically it. Barring any complications, any surgery will work if you work it. Like others said above, it’s really personal preference...unless you have GERD tendencies, in which case the recommendation would be bypass. I was sleeved and I’m all good. Good Luck!
  19. Yeah, it's kind of hard to tell since most people never get the chance to compare how the different surgeries feel. For people who get revisions, the fact that they had a 2nd surgery may make how they feel different than someone who just had 1 bypass surgery originally. More scar tissue, less elasticity, lots of things could depend on how many surgeries you've had. Physically, though, sleevers still have their pyloric sphincter working to control when the stomach empties into the intestines, while for bypassers the rate of stomach emptying depends mainly on the size of the bypass outlet. So it at least makes sense that you'd feel full longer with a sleeve. Google found this surgeon who offers a version of DS that preserves the pyloric sphincter. They say they do it to prevent long term regain in bypass patients whose stomach can empty too fast if the outlet gets bigger over time. https://nwhsurgicalweightloss.org/learn-about-your-condition-and-treatment/pyloric-preservation

    Hate bypass

According to his profile he had the Bypass in Oct 2019 as his first surgery. No one can understand this revision stuff unless they have been through it. Wishing you all the best

    Hate bypass

@MIKEYY84 I’ve read all you me comments. My question is have you had a revision? I understand you have the bypass but did you ever have the sleeve first then the bypass? If not trust me it’s much different.
  22. I am in the last stages of scheduling a revision from sleeve to bypass due to severe GERD. I was sleeved in August 2018, I only lost about 35 with sleeve because the reflux is worse when I have nothing in my stomach, so I pretty much have to eat something every hour. I’ve been on 40 mg pantoprazole twice a day (80mg total), famotidine twice a day, and carafate up to four times a day. It sucks. I am hoping bypass will at least let me knock off a few of the meds. I’d love to get down to two or fewer per day, preferably none.
  23. I've heard some people say this about revisions, but to be honest, I'm not sure if it's something specific to revision, or if there really is less of a restrictive feeling with bypass. I felt quite a bit of restriction early on (well, I still do at five years out if I overeat), but then, I've never had the sleeve so I have nothing to compare it to. So I honestly don't know if there's less restriction with the bypass, or if it's just something unique to revisions.

    Post op diet

I’m interested to hear of different post op diet requirements. Bypass
  25. Yeah, I don't think the surgeries differ much in terms of average weight loss. Otherwise most people would probably just choose the one that works best. (Probably one reason why no one likes the lap band anymore - it definitely doesn't work as well.) Since you said you're a grazer, perhaps you'd prefer a bypass or DS. With the sleeve, you feel much more of a restriction - I feel absolutely stuffed for an hour or two or three after a meal that would have been an appetizer before. It's that drastic reduction in the amount you can eat that does the work with a sleeve. In contrast, I've read comments from people who revise from a sleeve to a bypass, and they often say that they feel less restriction afterwards than they did with the sleeve. With the bypass, things slide through your system faster so you don't feel full for long, but you absorb less calories. I like the restriction, and I feel like it works really, really well for me. But I've never been a snacker - I like my 2-3 meals and that's it. I think people who like to eat often can make up for the reduced volume by increasing meal frequency if they try. I didn't really know that when I was deciding though. I decided on the sleeve because I prefer a less invasive procedure (all other things being equal), and didn't want to have to worry about malsorbtion, and I didn't have much of a reflux problem.
