Hi Roustabout, Congrats on your band. How did the surgery go, much pain? I will see the surgeon this coming Thursday and hopefully get an approval soon after. I was going to have the gastric bypass and changed to the band because less complications with it. Hows the weight loss going? Have a good weekend, Maggie:cool2:

Hi, I'm Cassidy, Cass for short. I'm 30, I had rny gastric bypass in Dec 2014. I started out with a bmi of 53.1 and a weight of 339 I'm 5 feet 7inch. I've always had trouble with my weight. At 16 I started to balloon up and it never stopped. I've tried diet after diet, eating right, working out. Was never able to lose more then 20 pounds. I had thought about weight loss surgery years ago but I didn't have insurance and thought about going to Mexico for it but couldn't afford it with being a one income family. Finally got insurance that would cover it and I went for it. I knew it was something that I wanted to do. I jumped through ton of hoops to get everything done for my insurance to wait for them to approve me. I'm lucky I got approved fast and had surgery within a few weeks from it. I had surgery just days before my birthday. It was my birthday gift to my self.. Anyway to say I'm glad I did it is a Understatement. I've lost 86 pounds, I've dropped my bmi down to a class two..any ways thanks for reading.. Glad to be here. I'll included s before and a after

"Really, you have that much to lose?"
PrincesaJenE replied to MrsFlipFlops's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The first doctor I went to told me not to get the lapband because someone as big as me could not lose the kind of weight that I needed to loose (200 lbs exactly). He said the LB was for someone needing to lose 40 or 50 lbs. I was so discouraged - I really didn't want to do gastric bypass because the band just seemed so right for me. He discouraged me so much that I didn't pursue the lapband for another 18 months. I am so glad to read about you all doing so well. It reaffirms that I can do it. Imagine if I had done this 18 months ago? I'd be on here with you all writing my success story! 7 weeks banded 25 lbs lost! I'm on my way. Stay tuned - Success Story, June 2010? -
You can have more than 80g protein, but it is actually possible to get TOO much protein. At least for a "normal" person, Since bypass patients don't absorb everything it might be harder, I am not sure about that part. I would probably do protein shakes at work since you don't get breaks. You can't really eat fast enough to sneak a quick meal in. It would just be a bite or 2 at a time and take forever to eat which may classify as "grazing". I am about 7 weeks post op and it takes me about 30 minutes to eat 2oz of meat and a few bites of veggies.

Introduction and Concerns
Josephine replied to IGDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the lapband Sept 2004. Around December 2005 I started having pain issues in my body and by May 2006, I was a total mess. I've spent the last few years in severe daily chronic pain and taking oxycontin and still not having relief. I had a team of 6 doctors and lots of loving friends and family and no one could figure out what was wrong with me. 9 months ago I figured it out. My body rejected the lapband.. not slippage, erosion, or psychological intolerance.. true full-on rejection which is pretty rare. I'm being revised to VSG on Friday and I cannot wait for my new life to begin. Yes, what happened to me is rare, but all the other problems are WAY TOO COMMON. You're the only one who can make the decision for you. Do your research and make the best choice for yourself, but please remember my story in case you need to know it later. *hugs* -
Pain in esophugus after revision...

Grrr..my family is driving me crazy!
Christopher replied to DarlaRay145's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately, we will be tested like this everyday, and every time we open the fridge, the pantry, or go out to eat. The surgeons can fix the stomach, but they cannot fix the brain, and all the triggers that make us crave the foods that got us into the situations that caused us to have gastric bypass surgery. You need to be strong, things will get better, you will learn to find healthier choices to the foods that you crave. Eventually you we be able to introduce some of the things that you like, back into your diet in moderation. It is also great motivation to keep on tract when your weight starts to drop weight like you're melting away. I have now lost 112 lbs in 5 1/2 months and it feels great! Good luck! no regrets here. I wasn't revised either. love my sleeve!

Hello again & what might I need to know?
BostonWLKC replied to Finding My Feet's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Was really an easy process for me ... recovery was a breeze other than getting in water (and the gas pain for two days after surgery). I can’t even consider eating breads and high sugar / fat but otherwise eating has been really great All the best ! Self Image Issues After Surgery
CurvyCat replied to unaguy05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Self-image is such a strange thing. I get more self-conscious as I lose weight, and it's always been the case for me, every time I have lost it. My husband doesn't get why I deflect any commentary on my weight loss, why I don't revel in the positive feedback. I don't know exactly, but I am definitely more critical of my appearance the smaller I get. The tummy bulges bother me more now because I can *almost* hide them, whereas before I just took them in stride because there was no disguising them. I've gained and lost so many times, and it's always like this. The last time I did a little better, and hopefully this time I can get comfortable with myself in a smaller body for the long haul. I've known a lot of women who've had bypass surgery and this outlook is less common than others, but definitely is not rare or unusual. We've just got to work on getting comfortable in our new bodies, for the long haul. -
My best friend had the gastric bypass...She was about 500 pounds. Her health was in serious trouble and she needed to do something YESTERDAY to help herself. She had a young child at the time, hes a big boy now.....and you know what they say, Despirate times call for despirate measures. In my opinion, I feel that the RNY is just that...a despirate measure. Do it if you are 300 + pounds over weight. Do it if your health can not hold out much longer. If you have 100 pounds to lose, it is TOTALLY "do-able" with only having the band....I say only like I take it lightly, but what I mean is that your intestines do not need to be rerouted....My girlfriend lost her weight quickly. She now has over 40 pounds of extra stuff, skin, cellulite to get surgically removed.......another surgery.....another risk. Granted, some of us get reconstructive surgery too..but there is a better chance at our skin reforming around our newly found muscles due to the slow weight loss! I am 32 years old. I am holding on to that hope for dear life! I dont want a tummy tuck, but if it comes to it, I will. I do however want a boob job!! That is my two cents on the subject. Good luck to you and please let us know which way you deside, and eventually how your surgery goes......

Alvarez Price Vs Us?
shangefan replied to made2beme's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was self pay for my lap band ($10,000 -plus). My bariatric group (not the same one that did the band, as I have moved to a different city since then) charges $16,000 for band to sleeve revision. I am paying approximately a third of that in Mexico. But I also am very comfortable because Medical Tourism is nothing new and I am excited about the experience and reputation of my doctor. And yeah, health insurance... um, yeah. My coverage is pretty excellent overall, but bariatrics definitely are excluded. -
Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve
caligirltt replied to Nicki24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bypass they do specifically to cure diabetes. PCOS is a metabolic/insulin type issue. Usually just losing weight cures it. If you have diabetes in the family. Bypass is a good option but it has to be the insulin resistant one. I'm not sure if that's type 1 or type 2. [emoji16] -
Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve
Heatherg0907 replied to Nicki24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Nicki, I'm having revision from lapband to bypass and I can tell you, I wish I would have just gone with the bypass to begin with. For me, the gas pains from having the lapband was terrible and I'm not looking forward to that again and the lapband didn't work at all for me. I do have a sweet tooth so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I dump to keep me away from those foods, not that I'm even thinking of having those things anytime soon after my surgery. Ultimately the choice is yours and you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. Good luck in your journey!!! Heather Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Not suitable for LAP Banding? :(
gg2007BandSTAR replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I'm the same, would love the weight loses of gastric bypass but not the procedure!! But in saying that i would be very happy if i lost 2lbs a week if i got banded. I am still trying to loose weight at the mo, but my problem is: i loose it, put it back on again, loose it, put it back on again. How much did your doc ask you to loose before you had the procedure? -
What you wished you would have packed for your hospital stay....
Tomo replied to PNWgrandma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say don't overpack. I was sent home the same day after my vsg, and for the rny revision, I went home the next morning, about 24 hrs after being admitted. Basically slept till my release. What I found necessary was a very loose outfit that you can slip over your head, comfortable shoes, your cell phone, necessary ID items and a small pillow for bumps in the road for your ride trip go home is really all I needed. -
Anyone wish they had chosen bypass??
lapbandlover replied to xokimberlyxo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I must not be normal cause I am only 1 lb from goal after 9 months, lol and if a lazy butt like me can do it............, Seriously, my surgeon tried to gently sway me to bypass also and I flat out refused. Does yours do the band laparascopically or does that have to be open also? -
Anyone wish they had chosen bypass??
make33 replied to xokimberlyxo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Same story--my surgeon told me my acid reflux could be enhanced by the Band and with the bypass, I could "lose 100 pounds in a year" (he does mostly bypass). (Note: my acid reflux is GONE!) Hey, at my age (60 then) I didn't want anything so invasive, and I've read it will take us 3 years to lose as much weight as the bypass patients lose in one--so what?!!! No dumping syndrome or any of the other problems associated with non-laproscopic surgery. So I'm taking my good old time--losing an average of 2 pounds a week and working out 4 times a week--who's going to have the saggier skin?? Not me says I!! :glare: PS Check with your insurance company and find another surgeon who will do it laproscopically, m'dear! -
Anyone wish they had chosen bypass??
aubrie replied to xokimberlyxo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon said that he also recommended the bypass. I wasn't AT ALL comfortable with that. Ethically as well as risk wise. I just flat out told him no. He shrugged and said okay..... That was that. -
Kaiser Southern California
BlaqBeary replied to kristykreem's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
When was the last date of your Options class? There will be those to say whatever hospital their procedure was completed at, will be the best hospital. And, yes there are many Kaisers all across to back East. I was born at Bellflower. It's not that Kaiser corrected PB (if there are actual statistics that mention this). To my understanding overall there were approximately 80 patients who recieved the lapband, either from Kaiser or another facility and Kaiser performed/corrected over something of 200 lapbands to sleeves. So, there were a lot of people being corrected by Kaiser than doing the actual sleeves. Although sleeves were done f0r the first time there too. Nonetheless, who is to say where the majority of those patients come from. I think if you go to PB website Gastric Bypass Surgery and Bariatric Surgery information - Pacific Bariatric you will find another statistic rather than put them (Crown also) down. PB has done over 10,000 plus, because this is what they specialize in. I want my surgery completed with PB, in that, I don't want to wait for Kaisers waiting list. -
Hellllllp! Finalizing decision between LB and bypass. Need imput please!
Dody replied to Mrs. S's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You stated you have very serious health issues. I have no idea what they are, but I have serious issues of my own. I've had 5-way-bypass heart surgery and cannot have RNY if I wanted it (which I don't). My doctors would not allow it. I'm curious as to your health issues, because whether we like to believe it or not RNY is a very complicated and serious surgery and you should be up to it. If your weight is the major problem and it has to come off quickly, than that decision has to be yours. I just wondered what you are facing, because RNY isn't for everyone.
