  1. So I have come to the conclusion that I have a racer back gym shirt problem. I keep buying more shirts and they are soo cute and they make me feel cute. I am still kicking butt on my workouts and I have decided to end Keto for now. I have been stressing a lot about food and unfortunately, I hold on to weight that way. It is time to go back to just being mindful of what I eat and how much.

Although I look great in clothing, I wanted to show what my body looks like outside of it. My stomach is sagging lower than before I lost weight. My arms are sagging and my breast have deflated.

With that being said, I would not go back and change anything. I would not give up being able to jump, bike, go shopping easily and feel comfortable in clothes for anything. I would not trade this confidence or happiness. I am soo a peace with myself and my body. The aches that I feel are from soreness of pushing my body, than from being too heavy that my body cannot handle the weight.

This journey has saved my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. I do not hide from the world anymore. I do not hide from people. I go out and want to explore. I meet new people. I have been freed from the burdens my weight had placed on me mentally and physically.

With being said, "I LOVE MY IMPERFECTLY PERFECT BODY!!"

@Newme17 You are right. When it came to Keto, I was stressing out a lot about carbs. That was the hardest part and I noticed that I started feeling anxiety when shopping for foods. Especially, since I stay away from cakes and cookies. I need my fruits and I was limited there as well. Even though I stopped Keto, I will keep some great aspects from it. I have completely cut out bread and flour tortillas. Rice is only a 1/4 cup once every 2 weeks.

I am with you. If for some reason, I cannot pay to have the skin removed when I am ready to cross that bridge, then so be it. My skin is my journey. Each tiger strip or roll is my badge of honor.

Yes. It is now time for me to enjoy my life. Just enjoy brining able to move easily and effectively.

@Thejeweledsleeve I just tried to hit the reply button, or what I thought was the reply button, and hit the report button instead. Geez. Anyway, I was laughing at your needing to pull your leg up using your pant leg to tie your shoes. I can so relate to that situation. I also relate to struggling with the keto diet. I miss having fruit. I think as long as I keep my calories under 1000, I should be able to add a peach here and there.

  2. My doggy is now back home in his cute little splint and cone. He is soo adorable and annoyingly smart. He figured out how to push the cone back so he can bite at the splint. He also is running on 3 legs but walks on all 4 (Except in the dirt lol).

My stall is finally over. I moved 1 lb on the scale on Sunday. I finally moved. I have been bouncing between 203 - 205 lbs for the longest. I am finally 202 lbs. I think its over. I have been sticking to my Keto and meal prepping. I cannot believe that I look like this. I feel amazing. I look amazing and although I have a long way to go, I am soo proud of the progress that I have made. I am almost to my second goal of being under 200 lbs. I have made the decision that I want to bring in the New Year at 155 lbs. That is an average of 9 lbs over the next 5 months. I can handle that. I have already prepared my Keto weeks and the grocery lists. I just want to reach that third goal by the end of the year and I believe that I can.

My ex-bf has been texting me and calling me a lot. Honestly, I really do miss the fool. I just do not want his insecurities destroying my progress. I am highly conflicted. I know he is a great person and I truly love him a lot. I just do not understand why he has any insecurities. The man workouts and is built. He is very handsome and extremely intelligent. As of now, he is being supportive. Sending me work out routines to try, new recipes and even went as far as to get me a class doing Aerial Silks (Something I have showed extreme interest in). I really need to have a one on one with myself regarding our relationship.

Yay for broken stalls! 😊 I wouldn't know but I will celebrate with you.

I do think you need to have a serious one on one with yourself. Also, have you talked to him about his behavior and insecurities? Maybe he needs to hear it and so he'll reflect on hisself and change. You don't strike me as the kind to not say anything, but maybe you didn't??? I actually broke up with my hubby as we were dating. I was ready to get out of the club, partying scenes and he wasn't. Told him he has to change for hisself and not me. So I told him to leave. Not long afterwards we're back together. lol. But he did change (slowly) and he did listen to me. Now I've got a great man, a husband who will move mountains for me, regardless of what I look like. He's secured in himself enough to not project what little he may have, if any, on me. I usually puff him up with compliments though, so that helps. Lol. So anyway, I hope it works out for the way you get blessed, whether it's with him or not. But until you know which way, enjoy taking care of YOU and your cute adorable little doggy.

  3. 7/8 - Extremely healthy keto day.

7/9 - Halo Top 1/2 Cup Chocolate Mocha Chip (I am in heaven!!). Healthy keto day. Weighed in at 208.4 lbs. Gained 1.4 lbs

7/10 - Hung out at Coney Island with my Mom, little Brother and my dog Buddy aka Rasta Scoobs. At Nathans Philly Chicken with no bun. The guy gave me the nasty look when I ordered it. (It was like really, you are going to come here and want to eat healthy at Nathans?). With a nasty tone, he says, "It's going to be the same price and the same amount of meat." So in an even nastier tone, I said, "Did I ask about the amount of meat or the price? No. I asked for a Philly Chicken with No Bun. Thank you." He just placed my order and my brother says, "Don't be surprise if you find some special sauce or a hair floating around in it lol."

7/11 - Keto Day. Decided to step on the scale and weighed 205.4 lbs. I was like WTF!!! What is going on? At this point my weight is fluctuating up and down. I think I maybe starting stall soon and my body is warning me. It could also be water weight.

7/12 - Another Keto Day. Went out to eat with my mom and brother and I was upset because I could have the Tacos of Bell. My mom keeps saying, "Oh you have your meal prep and you have been doing so good on your diet. Taco Bell is not good for you." I was like then why are you eating it. She says, "I'm grown and your mama. Do as I say and not as I do."  She is right but sooo annoying sometimes.

7/13 - My day was healthy. Received two new Hidrate Spark bottles. Gave one to my mom and brother. They are in love and I set them up on their phones.

Breakfast: 2 egg whites boiled with salt.

    Snack: 2 pickle slices

Lunch 1 - 2 : 2.1 oz of turkey with a tomatoes, a little cheese, romaine lettuce and my special dressing. (Broken up into 2 meals)

    Snack: 21 olives.

Dinner 1 - 2: 4 oz of ground beef, a little cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and salsa. (Broken up into 2 meals)

Sorry about the stall. Good for you for standing for yourself and you were polite. I love that part. Your brother cracked me up.

@Newme17That is her favorite saying. Other than, "I am not your friend. We will become friends when you pay a bill in this household." Oh that one makes me laugh because I will look at her like...really....I pay bills....yeah....we friends now...lol. I bring my bottle everywhere but I have been slacking in getting about 40 oz lately.

@Meryline I have an insulated bottle that I use for the gym. I will take those ounces and it to the Hidrate manually. However, I used the Hidrate for when I am at work. During that time I will not drink much of anything because I am busy working.

@Apple1 I really am running on autopilot at this point. I think every mom has said that line lol.

@Sweet as Peaches It is okay. The stalls will happen. I am not stressing it. I have come so far and I will continue to move forward. There is always bumps in the road and we have to jump over them. I just wanted him to understand that just because I am heavy does not mean that I do not want to watch what I am eating. Like do not judge a book by its cover. My little brother is just like my mother.

  4. I haven't been on in quite a while, so I thought I would check in.  My weight is down to 173, 7 pounds below goal.  I held at 175 for almost 2 months and randomly dropped 2 pounds a couple of weeks ago.  I had my year follow-up appointment, and my labs were perfect.  Once again, I know that this journey was one of the best decisions of my life, and that I never would have been successful had I not committed myself 100% to changing my relationship with food.  I still follow a keto way of eating and keep my carbs below 25g per day.  I wish everyone the best.  Happy holidays!

    Anybody on Atkins?

The Atkins diet is now usually referred to as the Keto diet or Ketogenic diet, which I also follow and enjoy. The premise is using your fat as primary source of energy rather than carbs. I think you should absolutely do it and see how your body adapts. As for me, I have lost all hunger pains and do not crave sugar or carbs like I use to even post opp eating my meal plan. I have lost about 10 pounds this month so far, (first 20 days) so I like that as well. The best thing about this diet, is I do believe it can be sustained as a sleever, as you are already 80% there as others have commented. My macros I try and hit are 30 grams net carbs, 75-100 grams Protein, and 100 + grams fat. (I try and stay between 1200-1500 calories per day.)
  6. I had bypass on 4/23/18. My starting weight was 340lbs. I'm currently 221lbs. That's a total weight loss of 119lbs! I honestly can't tell you a time I remember being this small my entire life. I'm so happy! First goal: 250lbs [emoji818] Second goal: 225lbs [emoji818] Third goal: 199lbs ...*pending* Final goal: 160-170lbs I never worked out until this month. These last 22lbs until onederland are stubborn. I'm also doing keto and intermittent fasting. This surgery changed my life. I'm almost positive I would be closer to 400lbs by now if I didn't have this surgery. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Feedback and advice, am I doing ok?

I wasn't quite as big as you when I started, but I did start my six month pre-op diet program at 397 pounds. I lost 99 pounds during the six months pre-op (I was so ready to make a change, so I took the plunge into keto eating), and lost the rest of my weight down to goal (180 pounds) at one year and 4 days post-op. That would have been a total of 217 pounds total by one year and 4 days post-op. Here are my questions for you: How many calories do you take in per day? Carbs? Protein? What do you do for exercise? Do you track everything you eat and drink? I ask these questions to maybe get a better picture of your journey. Everyone loses weight at different rates, but when you start off at a higher weight, it usually comes off at a quicker pace if you are doing what you need to do. (But there are SO many factors at play...) I won't even get into the relationship thing in this post. But, I will say this -- everyone deserves to be with someone that loves them for who he or she is, not for who he or she could be...
  8. Since you are still healing you shouldn't "give up" on Protein. Adding a scoop on unflavored protein powder to 8 oz of 1% milk will give you 28 grams of protein. You can favor it with an almost endless choice sugar free syrups. I like to add a handful of ice and blend it. On the keto diet you can even add some heavy cream. You need just drink this just three times a day to get 90 grams of protein in around 600 calories.

    Time to start losing weight

When I started my six month insurance required pre-op diet program, I decided to jump in the deep end of the pool and get started right away. I followed a keto way of eating and lost 100 pounds by the day of my surgery. It was the best thing I did for myself other than having the surgery. I have continued to follow that way of eating for almost 2 years now (including through the food stages -- I had to do an extra week of liquids post-op because I wouldn't eat cream of wheat and oatmeal. Lol.) I am below goal and have been maintaining for months. I'd suggest finding a way of eating that you believe can be sustainable for you. I can't imagine where I'd be now if I hadn't done all that hard work on the front end of surgery. Good luck!

    Time to start losing weight

I don't get along well with Keto. I did Mayo Clinic diet during my 6 months and lost 30 pounds:) It's very similar to Mediterranean...which is the diet of the people who live the longest on the planet, and have the lowest rates of cancer and heart disease. There are a lot of ways to customize your diet to your goals. I like slow steady weight loss and I want a Forever Diet that is balanced and includes most foods. Some folks prefer rapid weight loss, and Keto certainly accomplishes that. Best wishes whatever you decide:) Lots of roads up this mountain!

    Stalling right now

I eat Keto so I might fat fast for a 1-3 days but mainly, if you keep doing the same thing, you will lose eventually. Your body has to take breaks, you can't really make it lose if it doesn't want to unless you have been eating off plan.

    Weight Gain A Week In?

Congrats on your surgery. Whoo hoo. It always surprises me the different post surgical diets people are given. I wasn’t on puréed foods until week 5. Follow the plan you were given but don’t be surprised if something on the plan upsets your tummy - just avoid it. As Gradycat said take it slowly. And if you feel you’re struggling, never be afraid to go back a step. Potatoes are a starch which provide energy but if you don’t use that energy it will be converted to fat. The same with all carbs. This is why many of us are told to avoid them during our weight loss phase. Plus the fat you add when you mash them isn’t the best. They weren’t on my post surgical diet from either my dietician or my surgeon. I still avoid potatoes at 19.5 months out as they tend to sit in my tummy & consume very few carbs (except for whole or multigrain crackers or rolled oats). My 2.5week pre surgery diet was keto but all the reading I did & conversations with my dietician suggested keto was good as a kick start but because of the high fat not good long term. Don’t worry too much about fluctuations. Fluid retention, constipation, etc. will up the number on the scales. Plus you know sometimes it’s just our bodies. We can eat & drink exactly the same thing one day to the next but can gain or lose. As long as the your general weight loss trend is going down you’re doing well. (Ignore when you have a stall of course.😁) Good luck on your journey.

    Weight Gain A Week In?

Yeah, I think I am going to stay away from carbs. Has the keto diet worked for you?
  14. Most NUT and Dietitians just use the food pyramid and they don't think outside the box they are useless. I incorporate some paleo principals in how I eat, but mainly I eat Keto. I try to eat organic most of the time. Premier Protein is full of chemicals, but it is the highest protein, lowest carb ready made shake you can find. Post op, the first few weeks, you might want to use it. I live alone and I didn't have anyone around to help me with things. It was nice to just be able to grab a ready made shake that required no effort. Also since it has so much protein, it makes it easy to meet your base protein each day, which is really hard in the beginning because you can ingest so little at once. Also most mix shakes get thicker when you mix them, especially with a shaker. With a normal stomach that is nice, because you feel full. It is terrible with a tiny healing stomach. They are just a tool to get you where you want to be, using them for a few weeks won't hurt, you but not meeting your protein goals will.
  15. Foods that don't like me no mo: Cooked kale greens, although I may give them another try this fall; chicken breast (too dry), chicken thighs on occasion, bread (not that I eat a lot anyway), paleo/keto pancakes -- basically complex carbs…. And thanks!

    Hello!!

Hi!! Im new here 🤗 (but have been lurking for months 😂😂) I started my journey for WLS in March of this year, Im looking to have VSG, my insurance has a 6 month period before approval.. Ive also struggled with weight all my life.. Ive been working out with a Personal Trainer since 2012 and I will admit tht my dedication has been more geared towards the workout vs. diet. I am so happy to have found this App because I love to hear the success stories as well as the bad stories (evn tho they scare me 😳).. I have 1 thing left to check off and then I guess ill be waiting for the approval from my insurance and thn on to surgery... On one hand im like no dont do and thn the other im like you have done all of the test and been to so many appts just do it lol.. Hopefully ill b on the Losers Bench soon!!

VET Looking for Buddies and Pen Pals!

I'm happy to join in too. I'm 7 yrs post op. Had some regain at 18 months post op. Went Keto and lost regain plus some, but have fizzled out and STILL have 25 lbs to go until ultimate goal as current BMI is around 30 (need to change my profile info still). I remain on a tight diet and am essentially still keto, but I'm considering putting Keto to the back burner and focusing more on high protein-low carb-lower fat which is more of a 'bariatric' type diet long term. I am desperate to make the scale move in the next 3-4 weeks and see some good losses. I will ALWAYS identify as a bariatric patient and sadly this will be a lifelong battle for me. But I have all the tools I need. I actually just spoke to a NP today from my clinic to suggested I start FIERCE tracking which I haven't done in about 6 years.
  18. Hi Jessica! Great job with your weight loss! I think carbs might have a little to do with my stall. I also think that my working out has something to do with it, oddly enough. We have a new gym in town that does some pretty intense workouts and I go Mon, Weds, and Fri. I can't help but wonder if this sudden change in workout might be causing a little bit of the stall, as well as maybe building muscle. I am going to try the Keto diet to limit my carbs and hope that that, combined with my inability to eat a lot and working out break my stall! Good luck to you on breaking yours!

    September date!

Happy birthday Arual85, I am 2 days away from my bypass surgery. I've been lucky in my pre-op to be able to have some foods (more keto focused) but I finally understand that sugar and carbs are my go-to food choices. A little nervous but I think everything is finally going right. Good luck x Sent from my RMX2001 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Awesome Hi-Protein/Low-Carb/Hi-Fiber Foods/Site!!! I was in Walgreens a while back and picked up a lone can of KETO Hot Cereal - Old Fashioned oatmeal. The reason it caught my eye was because, not only does it have 3g of net carbs, it also has 9g of Fiber, and 17g of protein!!! In Diabetic Exchanges, one serving = 2 vegetables and 2 lean meat exchanges. And, best of all, it tastes great! Their website was shown on the package, and there are tons of products....and it also lists the nutritional information. There is probably a location near you!!! Check it out....you will love it!!! Great way to get in the extra Protein and fiber without the high carbs. www.keto.com Nancy* :banana

    Low carb

I've used it in various things when I was doing Keto. Probably will continue to do so now since surgery if a recipe calls for it. I also use coconut flour when called for.

I've made keto Christmas baking with almond flour! Its more dense but a great option!
  23. Hello. I’ve had some success on keto and Atkins type diets in the past and I am curious how they work post op and more than a little nervous to start it up again now since they are basically higher fat and my past probs there...plus I’m only two months + post op. Lil backstory- I had my gallbladder taken out 11/2016 and a year later my body still hasn’t made up its mind on how to process fats (mainly dairy, meat based fats are tolerable) Some days I can totally tolerate minimal dairy (like in my morning coffee or some meat wrapped cheese/pickle meals). Other days I take one sip of my AM coffee and I bolt straight to the bathroom & for the rest of the day- this is low fat, whole milk, half and half or even full on heavy cream. I literally can drink/eat FULL fat one day and get the intestinal freak outs the next! I don’t get it! I had VSG on 10/31/2017 (2.5 mos) and still struggle having dairy back into my diet since I’m pretty much experiencing the same thing. Now I make my one morning coffee with chocolate Premier Protein shake and do OK but still struggle with any other dairy...cheese, low fat sour cream, yogurt...but I WANT TO COOK WITH THIS STUFF! PLUS I NEED THE CALCIUM. Ricotta bake- HELLO! I want to be able to eat that without excusing myself from the table after one bite. Can I do a modified Keto and/or Atkins type eating program that allows me to eat lower fat (mostly dairy) type foods and still be satisfied and lose weight? Maybe less fat and more protein? Is there something like that- toss in some whole greens maybe? I’m earnestly trying and reaching out for help so please don’t give me arrogant attitude. I enjoy most of you but geez the power trips here are sometimes too much...kinda like the trots I get lately many thanks and so much love and appreciation to all of you that offer kind supportive suggestions...Tess

    Long, long time ago...

12 years out. I had several blood transfusions after my WLS so I had big regrets. The issue was that I replaced food with alcohol (was not a drinker prior to WLS) 3 years ago I got my sh*t together and got serious about supplements and started Keto. I am now at a healthy weight 145 and plan to eventually get back down to my lowest weight (135) which was pre covid. I gained 10 pounds when the lockdown started. I don't regret the surgery as much now as most if not all the issues I had were avoidable and just really my fault for not following the post op way of life.
  25. A friend of mine wrote this but I thought it might shed light on why some people stall when they eat things with artificial sweeteners, particularly the 'low carb' diet bars (e.g. Atkins & south Beach). You can also add Maltodextrin (found in powdered splenda - packet or bulk) to this. From what I read so far, glycerin is metabolised only when your liver glycogen is depleted, or in other words you are in keto. At what rate and at what GI I am unsure. Now in regards to maltitol. It is a scam. Maltitol is metabolised at 75% and provides 3 calories per gram as compared to sucrose which is metabolised at 100% and provides 4 calories per gram. Sure Maltitol metabolises "slower" than sugar, so it dosn't spike you insulin as much as sugar does at the same time but there are 2 aspects to consider: LC in terms of Ketosis: Brain needs 100g of glucose a day (25g after adaptation) regardless of insulin responses. If your brain gets that glucose from the 75% metabolisation of maltitol, then your ketone production can be halted, as well as all lypolisis that generally is caused by ketosis. LC in terms of Insulin Management: Regardless of whether you are in keto or not, insulin triggers are what store dietary fat, and keep it locked away in your fat cells. Even if Maltitol has lower GI value of 36 - 53 (depending on form) it is still not that much different that table sugar (sucrose) with a GI value of 60 - 65. .
