    ❤My Revision Story❤

Why does on get a revision
  2. I had my vsg to DS revision 3 weeks ago, due to some weight regain. I know my loss will be much slower than a virgin DS. But this is ridiculous!! I lost 4 lbs the first week, gained a pound the next week, and the scale says today I've gained another pound just since Tuesday!! I want to scream!! I have been doing about 1000 calories a day, and doing lower carb, sugar free. I have drastically changed my eating habits that caused me to regain. This combined with the malabsorption, I should definitely be losing!!!! What am I doing wrong?? Someone please give me some hope that this is going to work...
  3. Well I've not had band but I did have RNY bypass and all my blood work have been fine. My hair issue wasn't loss of hair just that it grows slower. Dumping only happens if you eat like junk food which we shouldn't anyways.. My weight loss has been amazing and even surprised myself... No complications here but I am only 9.5 months post OP. Maintaining well
  4. hair loss is very common with both surgeries. It has nothing to do with the type of surgery, it has to do with the trauma that surgery causes to the body. It's actually a risk with ANY major surgery - not just weight loss surgeries (although I'm guessing you see it more often with WLS, though, since we're taking in so few calories the first few months after surgery). At any rate, it's no more common with bypass than it is with the sleeve. Most WLS patients experience it. The good news is, for most of us, we're the only ones who notice, and also, it's almost always temporary. Vitamin deficiency is rare as long as you keep on top of your vitamins. You'll have to take vitamins with either surgery. dumping - only 30% of us dump (I never have). And it can be controlled by limiting or avoiding sugar. if you have reflux, bypass is the way to go. Bypass often improves if not outright cures it. Sleeve has been known to make it worse (it doesn't happen to everyone - or even most - but it's a significant enough minority that most surgeons will steer you toward bypass if you've had reflux issues) yes, there are more complications with bypass, but to be honest, they're actually not very common with either surgery. Most of us sail through with none - or only very minor issues that are usually "fixable".
  5. I had the sleeve in 8/2017. I now have erosive esophagitis Grade D from the acid issues and revised to Bypass 2 months ago. I would say if you already have had acid issues then you dont want that sleeve. You can lose hair with VSG too and you are suppose to take vitamins with both surgeries. I have not lost hair yet but I do dump on sugar and heavy carbs. I have been told that it doesnt mean I will always be a dumper. I can also have a sm amount of sugar after a meal and be just fine. I cant eat dry cereal of any kind or biscuit and gravy in the mornings. We all are different though and technically are not suppose to be eating those things anyways. I am in maintenance and eat what I want as long as my body lets me, lol. Good luck.
  6. With battling weight most of my life 10 years ago I got a lap band put in. I am now 57 years old, 15 years ago I was diagnosed with type two diabetes At the time my Lap Band was put in my weight was 230 pounds. That might not sound like a lot of weight but for a male 5’8 it was a lot for me. In addition to having type two diabetes I have also had two neck surgeries and three back surgeries over the years. The Lap Band gave me significant weight loss. I got down from 230 to 160-165. I also lowered my Metformin from 1000 mg to 500 mg. I lost approximately 70 pounds of weight and maintained this weight for about nine years. To say that it was an easy road for me would be lying, I was constantly having the band loosened tightened loose and tightened like being on a roller coaster. I had problems with the Lap Band being so tight that I was having major acid reflux problems. In addition to that I had some small ulcers around my esophagus next to my Lap Band. Last year I decided I had enough of this and had a lot of fluid taken out of my band. The major acid reflex went away immediately however, I still have some ongoing minor constant heartburn and a small cough because the Lap Band is still in place but a lot of the fluid has been taken out. Because of that removal of fluid I have gained back for the first time in 10 years 35 pounds. Now I am back up to taking the same amount of diabetic medicine Metformin 1000 mg because of the 35 pound weight gain. The bariatric center in Los Angeles is recommending that I conceivably switch to a Bypass Surgery and not a Sleeve. This decision is not completely final yet, and the decision towards leaning towards a Bypass Surgery rather than a Sleeve because of the acid reflex problems I’ve had for so many years which only really developed soon after getting the Lap Band 10 years ago. My next surgery would be involved removing the Lap Band and switching to a Bypass Surgery all at the same time in one surgery. As in all surgeries there are risk concerns for changing the body anatomy, however regarding the Bypass Surgery my new understanding is the body does not absorb as many vitamins and nutrients as it would from a Sleeve Surgery and there is a potential for hair loss and dumping and other potential complications? Any advice or opinions from anyone that has been down this same kind of road would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and concern. Hopefully one day I can help someone else.
  7. I can’t testify to the results but I personally chose from Band to RNY , I have Esophagitis, GERD and a port leak , I didn’t want to take a baby step and then have to do another revision ( if that was possible ) in the future .

    ❤My Revision Story❤

Congrats on being GERD free and being happy . I dont know what the length stuff means but I did ask my surgeon to make it so I would not have as many issues with vitamin deficiencies . ( I am guessing that is what you are referring to) After surgery was completed at some point in the hospital he did let me know that he didnt bypass as much of the small intestines. I guess you have to have a longer limb or something like that? Have you had blood work to confirm everything is okay ? What vitamins do you take? I have a friend who also had less intestines taken and she had issues with her bloodwork the 2nd time she went in.

    Full liquids starts tomorrow!

I'm interested in this too...although I have been on this phase for 5 days! LOL I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas and here are some: https://sleevers.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/high-protein-jello-mousse-full-liquids-stage/amp/ https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/how-to-make-protein-oatmea/ https://www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/liquid-recipes-protein-shakes-after-bariatric-surgery/ https://www.theinspirationedit.com/31-soup-recipes-for-gastric-bypass-patients/ Mostly, I have been making Campbell's Healthy Request Cream of "Whatever" soup, thinned with additional 1% milk and strained to remove any non-liquid bits for my one savory meal per day. I also eat one greek yogurt per day and a couple of protein shakes. Everything I make, I add a scoop of Genepro protein powder to up my protein intake...I even made protein jello shots!
  12. Wow, this has been crazy. I love my sleeve. Now, I need a revision. After 7 months of having a repaired herna? I still need to be revised due to GERD and other issues. This will happen sometime by the end of 2021. Insurance sucks sometimes. However, I am happy to see some relief soon. Don't give up. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Everyone, I am scheduled for bypass on 8/31. I have issues with reflux so my surgeon feels that sleeve would make that worse. I am excited but a bit scared. What is best way to get rid of gas after surgery?

    Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!

Thank you. @ms.sss I started to write a response and I lost words ... maybe when I get up the guts I’ll post the picture from my birthday right before my gastric bypass surgery. The only picture I have, a very unflattering one from the zoo. I was miserable that day, not knowing if my surgery was going to happen or if I would ever get my weight under control. And take an after picture ... I just don’t like seeing my face ... I have pictures of my incisions if anyone is curious and what I look like in Faja. It feels strange to share these things even though I technically already have through the Hospital BC page. with body dismorphia I don’t know if my self image will change. I guess with time I will see ... it’s gotten hard to hide the chronic pain and fatigue from my face and day to day and it tends to reflect how I feel around other people. But I guess because I’m on the Autism spectrum I don’t know my own facial expressions ... or how to interact with people. I find trying to understand people exhausting. Of course with Covid I haven’t been around anyone ... my mom keeps asking when can I go swimming. I don’t even know. well that’s why I never finished writing the response 🤣 do I make any sense? I don’t think I know a normal body. So I’m critical. And can’t exercise to firm things up more I hate that. I’m critical of my knees and excess skin on my calves. And my butt isn’t as perfect as it looks in the Post op pics. But probably is just natural laxity that returns. Though I could use some volume there. I didn’t want to look before the excess skin was so horrible it was like well ... flaps. My skin is extremely thin as well like someone twice my age. i guess I’ll ease my way into this and how the few people I do know will react. It’s more how they expect me to feel about it that’s hard ... I think that’s partly why I’m afraid to buy a swimsuit. The attention, I honestly don’t deal well with it.

What is the best feedback your therapist ever gave you?

I got *really* lucky. Both of my therapist's parents had gastric bypass, so she really understands everything I go through and am going through. The best thing she ever told me is that with all the things I've been through to get here (I had a lot of complications after my sleeve), I'm alive and healthy and doing well for myself. I can still have a bad day, but it'll never be as bad as it had been now that I'm getting healthy for myself. She also mentioned that on bad body image days, I should try my best to focus on the fact that this is a *healthy* change for me, even if I feel like I'm still big. NSVs are a huge thing for us, and she tries to make me find one a week to tell her, especially if I was having a bad week. I can always find something, though, so I know something's working, and it's been really helping with my body image because, hey, I *am* making changes, even if my brain doesn't want to accept it sometimes.

Dr. Duc Vuong is my new (bariatric) spiritual guide

love him.... Started watching his vids when i started doing more research on a revision. He was direct and to the point. He says in most of his vids that he is no longer doing SX, but i think his approach is still valid. I watch nearly all of his post... not so much on the last few because it really deals more with covid.... but still some great information.
  21. It sounds like you have a reasonable chance of succeeding at this, given your situation. Likely what will happen, is that they will apply for approval and be denied due to the six month thing, then they will appeal the decision, and probably have a peer-to-peer review with your surgeon talking to their doctor and then a decision will be made. Likely they will approve it at that point (with some grumbling...) as they would rather pay for just one surgery to do both jobs than pay for the hernia repair now (don't take your gastro's word on this, talk to the surgeon who has to do the job! Surgeons, too, vary widely on their ability to do such jobs,) and then the bypass in a few months.

Hi, I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on August 19th. Just started my pre-op diet. Feeling excited and anxious.
  23. Dr. Fitzer did my Gastric Bypass in 7/27....He Is Amazing, and his staff is wonderful. I wish I could’ve taken Roz home with me.
  24. Doing good so far. I’m hardly using any pain medicine and was walking my first night. The thing that surprised me was that my surgeon told me that my hernia was damaged and in much need of repair. We knew I had it but not that bad and in order to help I had the revision done. So far so good staying in the hospital 3 nights no water or ice till tomorrow but feeling good and energized. Today already walked a mile and can’t wait to drink my protein shakes! I was tol by the nutricionista that i should be able to loose weight again so here I am to the rad of recovery
