  1. its hard, no doubt but in all seriousness, its a mind game we go into this thinking (we cant or its too hard) i never ever thought i could do it.....i dreaded my 2 1/2 weeks i had to do,,but on day 4 or 5, its not that bad...you detox from sugar and all toxins and you actually start feeling okay......the Protein is your fuel....so you wont starve....by drinking alot, you will realize what is really hunger or you just think you are hungry..... my saving grace was SF popsicles... just remember, this is to help shrink your liver into a piece of gorgeous so they can operate. its only for a short time but when your own it, its like forever..but you can do this if you want to. dont think you cant because deep down, YOU CAN

  3. IDK??? Are you still losing 1-3 lbs a week? If so, then I wouldn't worry about the amount of the fill.

    I pigged out!

I kinda did the same thing. Two weeks pre op my surgeon's nurse told me I had better not gain any weight prior to surgery. I believe that she was warning me that he would nor proceed the day of surgery if I had gained. So I had lots of food funerals but with a strong dose of fear. I had ice cream, sushi, Indian, steak, candy, cake, doughnuts, fried foods, ...even things that I would never normally want to eat. But I tried to keep the portions much smaller than usual, I was exercising a lot and I would cut back on the other meals of the day. I lost 4 lbs even during that crazy time.

    New To this....

Hi, Had the lap-band on 8/18/10. Tomorrow will be my 1st soft food meal plus the 2 shakes. I thought the reason you needed to do weeks 1-2 on shakes was so you build scar tissue around the band to help secure the band to your stomach. Anyway, I start 1 meal and 2 shakes tomorrow for 2 weeks. It's really a life lesson on eating. I started at 297 pre-surgery now at 272.5 (2 weeks post op).
  6. I'm in my appointments stage (2nd appt out of 3 with nutritionist coming up, GI specialist tomorrow, mental eval next week)... Shooting for mid Feb surgery. Surgeon said as soon as I'm done with appointments we can arrange it to whichever works best. I've been doing the food funeral thing lately but now I'm stopping because I've gained about 5 very unwanted pounds in the last month!!! How's your pre op going? What did you have today????
  7. I am 9 weeks out and having constipation. So frustrated. Anybody else? Any suggestions on how to handle this?
  8. I had the seminar and initial consultation with the surgeon yesterday, and I have a tentative date of 03.26 for my surgery!! I'm so excited. He worked with me to schedule it around my Spring Break. I went to the first psych visit, and I have my second one next week. I had the first of three dietitian consultations. The surgeon wants me to lose 15 pounds. (I thought, for sure, he'd say 30!!) I am SO pumped and motivated right now. :smile2:

    Tmi alert

The longer you wait, the worse it will be... I tried an herbal tea that was supposed to help, but found a smoothie at my gym that had coconut milk and shredded coconut did it for me. I was in an auto accident a few weeks after surgery, and they had me on percocets, so the combination of iron and pain killers seriously backed me up, so my case was a little different than most. Keep in mind that you are not eating what you used to eat, so your body will need to adjust a little. I used to go atleast 3 times a day, now I figure I'm doing good if I go every other day.

    I did it!

Well I was getting in 80 g of Protein a day and I still lost my hair. :party4: You want to get the protein so you don't lose muscle mass and so you have a lot of energy, though. But the first two weeks or so, it can be hard. What helped me was: -Protein hot chocolate from Nashua Nutrition/Healthwise -Clear fruity Protein drinks -Isopure RTD (40 g protein, 20 oz. liquids) -Adding protein to everything - South Beach Tide Me Over in my Water, unflavored Protein powder in the broths and Soups, etc. -Make the shakes with ice cubes in a blender so they have the consistency of a smoothie and go down better. -If you try whey protein powder and don't like them, try soy protein powder. Don't the soy? Try whey? Heck, Jay Robb has some made from egg protein. Just keep trying samples until you find one you like. -Using greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt (less carbs, more protein) -Using "bariatric" foods such protein soups, protein sloppy joes, protein oatmeal, etc. (Popular companies: WonderSlim, Nashua Nutrition, Focus28, ProtiDiet, Healthwise/Healthsmart, SmartForme)

    What to do?

Stock up the fridge and send mommy home. You may not be cleared to drive but you can go out for a walk and you should be able to get around your house by yourself. I am single and live alone. I was bored silly after 1 week. Taking a daily walk outside was the highlight of my day. It was easy. If you aren't experiencing any pain or complications you'll be fine.

    7 days to go

You seem to be doing just wonderful! Keep up the good work and I will be thinking of you this week! Now, I am hungry, it is nice that you are not. Just a difference in doctors I guess!

    7 days to go

7 days to go So I have been on my pre-op diet for three days now. Only seven more to go. My surgery is scheduled for July 9th, a week from tomorrow at 12 noon. So I have been drinking so much fluids that my stomach feels different. I'm full but a different kind of full. My husband is getting me some sugar free hard candy so I can have the idea of chewing something. My doctor allows us to follow the South Beach diet phase 1 so I am lucky there being alllowed to consume some food pre-op, but it's pretty simple and basic and I am bored! Nothing sounds good. Even foods that are on the unapproved list don't sound good to me. The first couple days of the pre-op diet were horrible, but now...I get hungry and just drink some Water or my Protein Shake. I am not really having any cravings. The hardest thing was last night I went with friends to Olive Garden and watching them eat all the yummy stuff I couldn't have. The only thing I wanted that I couldn't have was the bread, but after it being in front of me a couple of minutes, it didn't bother me anymore. I am very proud of myself for not breaking down and having any bread. Everyone says it won't hurt to cheat a little, but if I am afraid if I cheat a little, there will be no end to it. Being that I am on such a strict diet right now, they let me order from the kids meal. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with broccoli and instead of the Pasta it comes with I asked for mushrooms. I had salad and they were out of their light dressing, so I used a drop of olive oil (on my approved list) and balsamic vinegar and it was very satisfying. It seems real hard in the begining, but is getting easier. I just can't allow food to control me anymore I have to control it. Now after surgery, that may be a different story. We'll see!
  16. I am so tickled for you, Cajun!! What I am especially tickled with is your surgery date--you know, many are stalling until "after the holidays" to get banded ("Just one more holiday, please") and I am so proud of those who are getting banded BEFORE Christmas! (I was set up to have a second fill on December 28th and moved it up to December 21st--I want to be tight for Christmas!) So my hat (if I wore one!) is off to you!!!

    9 days before surgery

I'm scheduled on Jan 5th. I feel a bit like I'm on the plane with the parachute strapped to my back, getting ready for a big jump. Hopefully I fly and don't fall flat on my face! For staving off a cold, I highly recommend zycam nasal swabs (zinc). Twice a day for a couple of days and you should be feeling better! Stay in touch...I'd like to be able to build a support group of folks getting sleeved the same week as me!

    I'm A Champ!

Hello folks, This is my first post, although I've been lurking around since the end of last year when I met a woman at my hair salon who was 8 months post-op from a gastric bypass. I just happened to mention that I've tried all that I could with my weight and felt helpless, then she let me in on her secret. I'm an owner operator travel agent and I'm originally from NY living in the DC area. My family is from Jamaica. I'm married with two lovely girls who will be turning 2 and 5 soon. My husband and his family are all tall and slim. Thankfully our girls look like they've got dad's genes. I have PCOS, but luckily enough, we never had a problem conceiving. Hubby says he has the "rod of correction" -- yeah he's very into himself! I haven't told many people that I'm planning to have surgery this fall. But I have prepared them for my lifestyle change. I started some of the guidance given to me by my nutrionist and I've dropped 20! 248lbs confirmed at my last nutrition appt yesterday. My coworkers have noticed already. They'll be freaked when I really start shrinking. I'm pretty far in my process. Just waiting on the ins required psych eval to be sent to my surgeon's office and we're on to insurance sunmission. I've had a lot of ups and downs in life but I've always prevailed. No matter what I can solve issues and that's why my family nickname is "Champ." The only thing I can say I really failed at was my weight. The last time I was in the 260's I had balloon up 40lbs and was diagnosed shortly thereafter with PCOS at 25; I'm 32 now. I've been fighting this fight a long time and I never felt successful. So bad that I was thankful to be 38 weeks pregnant during my 10 year high school reunion -- hoping they'd figure it was baby weight! I know it was alot for a hello, but I'll be here for while! This is highschoofigure and I approve this message!

    Got the date

Just got the call today. My new band will be in place on February 21st. They said if I wanted to do liquids for 2 days before it wouldn't be a bad idea. I am very happy it's not 2 weeks again! I can handle 2 days. I am so hungry :hungry: these days and eating to much although still not as much as before, which I'm greatful for. I can't imagine being full on a half a piece of fish! I can't wait!:clap2:

    Getting A Little Worried...

You should be fine. ALAWAYS follow YOUR drs orders NOT the people on this forum's advice!!!! My dr only had me on 1 week liquids after surgery and then on to soft proteins. He doesn't have a mushie stage because he doesn't want you eating carbs like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, and cream of wheat!! All surgeons are different and you should ALWAYS follow their guidelines. Best wishes and stop worrying! It sounds like you are doing everything they've asked of you.
  22. I had my gallbladder out six years ago, and I was just banded 12/12. I had a difficult surgery for both. My gallbladder had not moved back into position (I had just had a baby) so that made the surgery harder. I was in bed for 1 week taking a lot of pain medicaiton. My Lapband was put in this week, and I feel great!!! I was prepaired for the same pain as my gallbladder but it is nothing like that. My surgen said that because she had a hard time getting the band in my body that I would have some extra pain from that. I have been moving and able to do things on my own even in the hospital this time. The nurses kept telling me to slow down and rest. Hope this helps!!
  23. Since this is the year for ME I applied for my passport a few weeks ago - no trip in mind but my daughter got hers as well because she is going to Europe in July so we will be taking trips in the future.... So it came yesterday. And you just don't even know how BAD I want to book a trip to Mexico for surgery!! Trying to be patient, I know my insurance will pay, I just have to get through the 6 months of medically supervised diet or whatever they call it. 2 months in. Taking some others suggestions to make appointments every 25 days to shave some time off.... God grant me the PATIENCE!!!!
  24. Hi guys. Yesterday marked 4 weeks since my sleeve. This has definitely been quite the journey. But I think I have done very well. I was on the lower BMI so I know the weight loss is slower. And honestly I'm ok with it bc hopefully that will mean less lose skin. How are other late June, early July sleevers doing? Please check in. 25. Hi all! I live in MN. My surgery date is Dec 20. I am excited, nervous, excited! LOL! I will have 2 weeks (winter break) off from my job as a TA after surgery, so I think I made good planning choices. My dr doesn't require preop liquid diet, but I am going to do so at least a wwek prior, I think it will make my bowel cleansing I need to do the day before easier (laxitives, liquids only day before preop). Have been reading alot & am looking forward to my new life!
