    September surgery buddies!!

I can't tell you how jealous I am of y'all with plans that move to puree after a week or two, my plan is three weeks of liquids. I'm chomping at the bit for next week when I can move on lol.
  2. That is still amazing. When have we ever been able to lose 13 pounds in 11 days? I did hear that there is a common three-week stall. Sometimes it is just good to throw out the scale and weigh in monthly.

First of all, 12 pounds in 3 weeks is a lot. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight, but be patient and stick with it and the weight will come off. The first few weeks post-op are the hardest because you're still recovering from surgery, very limited in what you can eat, and getting used to major changes, but you haven't yet seen the benefits of the weight loss. It is VERY common to have regrets and thoughts of, "What have I done to myself?!" early on, but as you progress, things will just get better. You'll be able to eat normal food again, and you'll lose more weight than you ever have before and get all the benefits that come with that. Hang in there!

unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", 12 lbs the first three weeks is perfectly normal. Most of us "normal" WLS patients lose somewhere in the 15-25 range the first *month*. Yes - you'll find some who lose more or less than that, but they're outliers. Most of us fall somewhere in that range. So if you've already lost 12, you'll likely end up in range by the end of your first month, too. I started off at almost 400 lbs and lost 16 lbs by the end of my first month - and I went on to lose over 200 lbs. So don't lose hope yet!
  5. My progress is very similar as yours. Sleeved on 9/1. I'm a little under 5'2". Started the pre-op diet at 203 and surgery weight was 199. Since surgery date I've lost 14, with 7 of that during the first week. Mine has gone a tad up and down a little which was disappointing. I went up 2 lbs in one day! The day before I had drank Gatorade Protein sugar free drink which had a lot of sodium. Good for 10 grams of protein but not the salt. I am being more careful with that now. Just gotta do what is best for us individually and, as you said, don't stress about it. Best of progress to us all!

Hi! I'm 3 weeks out and having a hard time. Where do I start? My energy level is all over the place, mostly low. I'm still on pureed, but not really tolerating much so Eating anything now just feels like a chore. And I've only lost 12 pounds since the surgery (14 pounds before surgery). PLEASE tell me this will get better and I'll be able to enjoy my life again! P.S. I'm not usually this negative, I'm just so frustrated with this process.

    September surgery buddies!!

I wouldn't worry to much about it. The first week is usually a bunch of water weight and other things getting flushed, then your body restores all that and makes it look like you aren't losing anything, but you totally are. Your body is trying to balance itself. I've heard that people who lose on the pre-op diet will have a less dramatic drop after surgery, because your body is already doing the water cycle thing or something like that. Also, the lower the number you are, the slower you may lose. I was sleeved 9/6, day of surgery 212.4 and I've only lost about 14lbs, 13 of those were from week 1. My plan still has me in the liquid phase too, and I just introduced creamy soups, so I know it's not what I'm eating. A little disappointing sure, but I'm not gonna stress about it, I can tell my clothes look bigger on me and my family keeps telling me my face looks thinner, so something is happening.
  8. Mine took nearly two months (no kidding) to submit to insurance after my final appointment. Took insurance a calendar week to approve it. Then it took 4-5 months to schedule my surgery for 2-3 months later. It’s been so long I’m ready to get this over with lol

    September surgery buddies!!

So yesterday made three weeks since surgery and I’m 30 pounds down!!! But still feel fat AND NOW I’m scared of regaining weight after reading a re sleeve thread ! I am lost emotionally right now!
  10. Yes constipated , but then again haven't eaten anything in a week so .... nothing there to get out . I am not getting the protien shakes down . I can try a heating pad just not sure why it keeps happening or what it means or how long before it's supposed to go away . Or what's normal and what's Not. August surgery buddies!

So my first week big loss… next three weeks stall… they suggested I up my calories and protein… now I gained! 🤦🏽‍♀️ This is really frustrating! Im tracking everything - weigh and measure every bite. I’m hoping there’s going to come a point where my body just gets it together and everything clicks… I’m just wondering when that will be. Right now I’m feeling very bloated and constipated (things moving, but slowly).
  12. Actually it was quite easy. I ended up staying 2 night in the hospital rather than the original one night that was planned. The gas pain the first night was horrible, like no one could prepare me for it. haha I have a very high tolerance for pain too and rarely take narcotics. (Had a huge surgery on my leg years ago, they literally cut my leg in half and put it back together and NEVER took one pain pill) Anyway, by the second day the gas pain was minor and I went home. Took 1 pain pill before leaving the hospital and then never took another one. (Not even Tylenol). By day 3 I had a smidge of pain in my shoulder (still gas) and then it was smooth sailing from there out. Drank the tiniest sips humanly possible for a few days and then was even drinking normal again. Had a annoying ache in my chest for about a week but my surgeon said it was because of the Esophagus repairs he did and it would pass, it did. Really, I am so thankful how easy my recovery was. I wish you the best, I am sure you will be just fine though. Most of what people complain about it the gas pains, they were just more than I expected. Side note: My surgeon said he gave me a double dose of gas because of everything he had to do in my upper chest he needed extra room. So he said mine would probably be a little worse.

I have no preop diet. Surgery is on October 17th. Fly to Turkey on the 16th- Do all testing. No food 24 hours before and was told to avoid fatty foods and carbonated drinks for the week before. Feels a bit odd but my liver tests came back working above average so I suppose that may be it?
  14. Congratulations! Thanks! I’m also looking forward to a healthier lifestyle. I had planned two weeks to be safe! Continued success for you !
  15. I am turning 48 soon, so close. I just had GVS and it went really well despite having an umbilical hernia to boot. I am back to work, since day 7. However, I do teach from home and sit while working. If I didn't I would say a minimum of two weeks. I tested positive for sleep apnea as well. I don't tell many people about the surgery, not because I am ashamed but rather it is like any other health issue for me, I don't go around talking about them. I tell who needs to know or I tell someone who is struggle and asks me how I am losing my weight. The first few days are super hard, and the tiredness is hard in the beginning as well. You do have to get used to prepping food differently but, this is all worth adding 10 years to my life. Down 17 lbs since surgery on the 12th.

Pain at 3 weeks post op

I agree it can’t hurt to run it by your team. It should be getting a little better day by day. To feel the same as day one at three weeks out I would make sure to tell them that.

Lucky you for only getting a 10 day liquid diet (jealous some 😂). My anxiety kicked in during my last check in when they told me they were submitting everything to insurance 😩 I think it’s more so of a good and anxious nerve than fear. I’m anticipating the outcome more than anything. I have scheduled an appointment with my therapist 1 week before surgery for extra support with my anxiety. What are you mostly nervous about?

Yaaayyy!!! I have to start the liquid diet September 28th but I have to do a 3 week liquid diet. How long is yours? I know some people are only doing 2 weeks.

    September surgery buddies!!

Well said!! I wasn’t expecting that feeling and I spent most of my first week post op wondering wtf did I just do?? Everyday I was annoyed about it and it took a lot of self-talk and reassurance to get through it!
  20. I actually made my own. I kept premier around the house, but I found them very heavy after surgery. I will do something like unsweetened vanilla almond milk, PBFit powder, vanilla protein powder and sugar free grape jam. I have several different ones. I also drank a lot of Kettle Fire Bone Broth. I went crazy getting three bariatric cookbooks and pinning tons of recipes on pinterest but I feel I was super ready. I started purees yesterday and started with egg salad, no problem. Today I am making a bunch of mini muffin ricotta bakes and going to freeze the ones I don't eat today.
  21. Well I am almost 2 weeks post op and full for me is a pain that starts after I take a bite. Not like a searing just like a cramp that moves across my stomach. Or a hiccup!

    September surgery buddies!!

Welcome! This site is super helpful. I’m 53 so right there with you! Take the week off of work. Trust me on this. I was foolish and tried to go back on day 5 post op and it was no bueno. Rest, sip tiny sips of fluid and rest some more. Post-op eating has not been so bad. Liquid & pureed (currently mine) phases are a definite drag but doable. I bought a sample pack of Celebration brand vitamins and I’m pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to work into the day. Based on some other posters, Protein20 water is a real godsend. I like the Coconut flavor over ice. I’ve told very few people but interestingly enough, it was my doctor that recommended my surgery and two other medical professionals that have championed the decision. Everyone must walk their own path but it can’t be easy having someone special to you not easily on board. Good luck with your conversations, I wish you the very best.

Hello everyone! My gastric bypass is scheduled for 10th of October. I have been on a waiting list since 15th of February 2021. I got all pre op check ups done last year, but had final check up before surgery 2 weeks ago (nutritionist, anesthesiologist and bloodwork). All was in place. But then my bloodwork came back really bad. I have developed anemia and its severe enough they called my in to have IV transfusion plus taking extra iron supplements with my pre op vitamins. Have new blood draw scheduled on 4th, so hope things improve enough to get approved. My BMI is 50 so already had to start my liver shrinking pre-op diet, 3 week before surgery.

    August surgery buddies!

I think I'm going to just weigh myself once a month, if that. I can't go through this every week. I've been feeling so energetic and fabulous this week, and this weigh in has just crushed me. I really thought I mentally prepared myself for disappointing results, but it's clear I haven't. My poor husband!
