Hi K_schroeder, I am also scheduled for the 17th but for the bypass. I wish it wouldn't be a Monday, but hoping we have a speedy recovery. Best of luck! Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Revision due to Reflux and scared!!
bajankat replied to bajankat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm most scared of not healing, a little back story. last year I had what was thought to be a tumor and had surgery. Well let's just say, I had a wound vac which was painful and now have a hernia in that spot, where it didn't heal at the time, and I have to have another surgery to repair that. This is what mostly scares me, other than the bypass itself. I was afraid of the bypass, to begin with due to it being so invasive that's why I didn't get it but it looks like that's the way I should've gone from the start because, here I am right there. -
Revision due to Reflux and scared!!
catwoman7 replied to bajankat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
bypass has been around for a long time and there have been so many improvements on it over the years that it's really a safe surgery now - not much riskier than sleeve. I'm not a revision, but I had bypass because I have GERD prior to surgery. I'm very happy with it - no regrets at all (I'm over five years out) -
Good Evening! I had a follow up with my surgeon today from a EGD in July. He's scheduling me for a revision to bypass and hiatal hernia repair asap . I'm scared! Then following that surgery maybe a few months later he'll schedule another surgery to repair another hernia with a mesh. I'm going thru it right now. how many of yall had complete relief from reflux after getting a revision? Have you had any other complications with bypass? any regrets? Of course I'm doing the research on it but I'm afraid of it, that's why I didn't get it to begin with. I can't wait to enjoy wls..I haven't reaped any benefits of it yet. my stats: 5'4" HW 261 SW 249 CW 226 GW 170 or just to be healthy at this point. Sleeved 4/9/19 had multiple EGD with dilations due to vomiting and multiple setbacks and developed horrible acid reflux.

Did anyone else feel like they were getting cold feet?
tahoegirl96118 replied to losingit87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You said what I've been thinking for years.....I'm terrified of not so much the surgery but the vomiting after anesthesia. It is so bad that I've been admitted after out patient surgery because they can't get control of it. Freaks me out. I was going to have gastric bypass 15 or more years ago. I was at the hospital in pre-op and I panicked and left. Two years ago I had a surgery date but I cancelled. I'm so afraid of puking my guts up after having this surgery. I'm also afraid of not having good results. And my age is worrisome to me as well. To say I know exactly what you are feeling is an understatement. Though our issues may not be the same, the feelings are. You got this. I got this. We can do this! -
Only my husband and my mom know out of my family...I know it has been hard on my mom not being able to talk to anyone about my surgery or my success this far through my journey but she understands how personal and private I am about it. I have always been the heaviest person on both my moms and my dads side of the family...but they all have seen me doing the yo-yo diets as well. So I’m just hoping they assume that I’m on another one of my “health kicks” as they like to call them....I doubt I’ll see any of them until thanksgiving anyways so I still have some time to think of scenarios or questions they may have and how I will respond to them. A year ago I was with one of my closest friends (who is also on the heavier side) and we saw a girl we went to high school with who had the gastric bypass a few years ago and I made the comment “wow she looks amazing” to which my friend responded with “yeah she had that surgery done. I’d look amazing too if I could take the easy way out.” And i said “I don’t think there is an easy way out. Losing weight is hard regardless of how you do it.” And she just rolled her eyes. I was just starting my journey back then and I developed this weird complex from her pettiness.

MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
WishMeSmaller replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Bypassers! Pretty quiet on this thread. How is everyone doing? Anyone have anything to brag about? Or gripe about, for that matter? I am doing well. Exercising pretty much everyday. Getting around 9k steps per day. Went back to work in the clinic after 4+ months of working at home. And I puked up half of my morning meds this morning 🤢😂 I guess I took them too fast and I am still on one blood pressure med that tends to disintegrate before I can swallow it. Yuck! Hope all of you are out there kicking butt! 💕 -

I typically have 2 shots of espresso with my premier shake over ice for the past 3 years had a revision and wondering if anyone has had a bad side effect with trying a shot of espresso with their premier shake. Just wondering just had my revision 8/3 doing really good but already missing it the Protein Shake is to thick without it thank you

Hey everyone! I had my gastric bypass on 8/4/2020 and I am having a lot of pain on my right side it feels like I pulled a muscle, but I only hurt when standing up, sitting down, or bending. Does anyone know how long this will last? It started three days post op and makes it difficult to take care of personal care. It feels like a burning pain with movement, but I’m able to walk with no pain.

OP - note that if you're a bypass patient, you'll probably be required to take calcium citrate instead of calcium carbonate (Viactive is carbonate)

How many carbs in post-op diet?
catwoman7 replied to BigSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
nope. It varies by clinic, not by surgery. Our clinic has the sleevers and the bypassers on the exact same plan. -
How many carbs in post-op diet?
Lanie992 replied to BigSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the carb limit different for bypass patients and sleevers? Just curious. I stay under 20 carbs per day but that is just how my diet works out -- I don't plan it.. I am a very picky eater and usually rotate what I eat each week & I am determined to reach my goal weight by December (at least 25 more lbs - don't know if it is possible though), so I am being pretty strict with myself.. I would be happy with up to 30 grams though - just the foods I gravitate towards right now keep me at a lower scale. -
Ok so this question is very early in my weight loss journey but I can’t find anything online. I’m 2 weeks out from my bypass and things are going well. I hope to be on mushy food next week. Excited! My question is for when I’m eating solids. I have a few trips coming up (hopefully) that will be in 2021. One of these ya a guys golf trip where I know multiple nights at a steakhouse will be involved. I want to stay on target but also not overly obvious I’m eating tiny portions. I hope you get what I mean. What’s the best items to order at nice steakhouses? Obviously I’m not ordering a giant steak. Leftovers won’t be happening. Thanks in advance!

Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?
Tracyringo replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You dont want to mess with the sleeve if you already have had reflux issues. I converted to bypass 2 1/2 months ago and although I wasnt very happy the first 6 weeks I have come around and its not so bad. I do dump on cereal or heavy carbs so I just dont eat that stuff especially in the mornings !!! I can drink alcohol and I dont dump on that. It really varies person to person. I know a woman who has never dumped with the bypass and she said she wish she did !! It is a good deterrent for sure. -
Insurance & Revision. Hope someone can help!
MeliE82 replied to BrooklynMomma's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
There has to be an issue as to why it would warrant a revision , as my insurance coordinator explained to me they won’t approve it unless there is a medical reason for it , I had tried to get a revision from lapband to sleeve last year but I didn’t have enough documentation for medical necessity so i got declined . This year a lot happened and I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea , GERD, Esophagitis so it made me eligible , but because of my GERD and Esophagitis I will be getting RNY instead due to reflux issues with Sleeve . As far as switching insurance companies just because you didn’t get something with one company would it void the ability to get a revision with a different company , it’s all about the companies Bariatric guidelines and how they measure medical necessity . -
Insurance & Revision. Hope someone can help!
smg replied to BrooklynMomma's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How much regain have you had? Is the regain from not following a long-term exercise and diet plan or are there other health issues that prevent you from following these plans? You're correct, they're most likely not going to cover a revision if there are no underlying health issues aside from regain. -

Hi Everyone, I had a vsg back in 2016, I’ve had regain and want to have a revision. Of course insurance won’t cover unless I have gerd or other issues. I did my surgery with GHI/Emblem Health. If I switched insurance to Aetna or another insurance would I get approved because I didn’t do the 1st surgery with them? I’m hoping someone can help me with this question 😞 -

I’m not interested in revision either. I’ m trying my best to get these 15lbs off but I feel like I take 2 steps forward and 3 steps back! It’s been that way my whole life but I refuse to give up! I’m adding this HIIT training ( high intensity interval training) workouts and resistance bands to my workouts to see if that makes a difference... -
Hello- I'm new to posting, but have been lurking around for a couple of months. I made the decision this year to start my weight loss surgery journey. I'm still in pre-op testing and appointments, so no surgery dates, but I've decided to go with RNY vs the Sleeve since I have reflux on a weekly basis, and also for the success rate that RNY had. This year thanks to the pre-op process I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, pre diabetes, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty liver, which has really opened my eyes to the damage I'm doing to my body. My levels are not high by any means and I have heard multiple times from my nutritionist that my blood tests shows I'm actually quite healthy, but my family history has diabetes on both sides (multi generational), so I know what lays ahead if I do not do something now. I've been overweight since the age of 9, so it's a scary, but exciting prospect to finally be 'normal' when I enter a room. ANYWAYS -- I want to know -- What conditions did RNY/Bypass cause you to 'Lose' other than just the weight?

Bariatric Weight Loss Major Turning Point Decision

Hi there! I'm with you on the struggle. I had vsg in Fall 2012, lost 120 lbs. Had babies in 2014 and 2016, so I never even made it to the 3 yr mark at my goal weight 😫. I've so far lost 40 pounds, on 1200 calories per day, and I'm starting a reset today. I never thought to try Phentermine, but I will be making an appt to get some this week! The struggle is very real! We can encourage each other. I am not at all interested in revision, at this time. -
Bariatric Weight Loss Major Turning Point Decision
BigSue replied to Hope to Resolve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I first looked into WLS about 15 years ago. At that time, gastric bypass was the only option from most surgeons, and I was scared away (and talked out of it by my family) due to the potential complications. It was mostly being done as an open procedure; the surgeon I talked to was doing it laparoscopically only for patients with a BMI below 40. When I started looking into it again this year, I was leaning toward the gastric sleeve because it seemed like a less extreme, less scary version of WLS. But when I went to my consultation with the surgeon, he pushed me toward gastric bypass, mainly because I started with a very high BMI (60) and gastric bypass tends to result in slightly more weight loss. The more I have looked into it, the more I became convinced that gastric bypass was the way to go. Maybe it was just confirmation bias since that's what the surgeon thought I should do, but I learned that the complications are actually not that different between sleeve and bypass. They are both done laparoscopically and have relatively quick recoveries. You have to take vitamins either way. Dumping is more common with bypass, but could happen with either. I have never had acid reflux, so I wasn't too concerned about that, but I have seen a lot of people on this forum end up with GERD after having the sleeve, and a lot of people getting revisions from sleeve to bypass. I saw a surgeon on YouTube (Dr. Vuong) say that everyone should get the sleeve because you can always get it revised to bypass if necessary, but to me that's crazy -- I don't want to go through a second surgery! I'm 3.5 weeks out from bypass so the jury's still out on whether it was a good decision, but that was my decision process.
