Weight gain going into week three
kcuster83 replied to nymisc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just think my second stall ended but mine are the same. I gained 1-2 lbs and then stayed there for about 2 weeks and then this week I have lost 5 lbs so far (since Monday, 1lb per day) I usually only weigh myself on Monday's but this week did mid week to see if I was out of my stall. 6 month follow up today and I am still a bit ahead of my weight loss chart the surgeon gave me. My chart says I should loose aprox. 97 lbs in 6 months and as of this morning I have lost 106 lbs in those 6 months! -
Surgery at OCC w/ Dr Ariel Ortiz in 9 days!
summerseeker replied to SoCalGuy6622's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I also felt that waiting wasn't an option and paid for my surgery. I don't regret a penny of the £12,000 I paid in the UK. I have heard really good things in this forum from that hospital. Let us know how you are getting along and if there is anything you need help with, please post and we will help if we can. Good luck next week -
You can always depend upon a couple of things post surgery. Everyone loses at their own rate & every rate is okay. The heady faster rates of loss of the first weeks don’t last. Everyone’s’ rate of loss slows & it will be even slower as you get closer to your goal or your maintenance point. Sure you may have a week when your loss is a little more or a week it’s a little less. Your weight loss is not an even straight downward line on a graph. It zigs & zags, up & down. If anything it almost curves a little as your rate of loss slows. As long as your general trend is downwards your golden. I lost almost 70lbs in 6 months but that was me. Generally men lose more quickly but there are other factors that may influence your rate of loss (age, amount to lose, genetics, health status, medications, etc.). Celebrate every pound you lose. You’ll get where you are meant to be in your time.

All right, I know as a guy, I have no experience with PCOS, but I wanted to comment on your statement here. It would be physiologically impossible for you to have gained 9 pounds of fat in 9 days if you're following you plan. Since inflammation is a common side effect of PCOS, and water retention is correlated with inflammation, I'm guessing you're just retaining water. I hope you find some relief from you symptoms as you continue to lose. I know it sucks right now, but I'm convinced you will continue to lose weight in the long run. Think of this as just another stall. -

Best test for calcium is a bone density test. I had one before my surgery (rock hard bones apparently) & am going to ask for a referral for another one soon. It’s been three years & I’m female & in my 50s so danger group. I consume way more calcium now than I did before surgery plus on HRT so I don’t expect any change. Heard recently that there are more men having bone density tests these days due to low calcium consumption & alcohol consumption (affects absorption of calcium & vitamin D). -
Hi Emily. I had to have my oesophagus stretched a little at the entry to my stomach. I was also told to have 100-150mls at a time. But I still struggle with vomit and nausea. The dietician said to skip purée to soft foods but I’m struggling so staying on purée and liquids. I use a protein powder called rule 1 (r1) first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It seems to help. My surgeon is on leave till 14 th oct. And my gp said if I can’t get fluids in and under control by next week I will be hospilized. I am skeptic to eat/drink due to vomiting too. I have set an alarm every hour to drink or eat. Mostly drink smoothies and soups. I started back walking last week and this week I’m back in the gym. Like everyone else my weight loss has slowed.

Okay Y’all. I am 6 weeks post op. It started probably Sunday? I have been down right sick about food. I have no appetite I cant hardly eat or drink. I know im not getting my protein in or water intake. I wake up out of sleep at 5am gagging and will throw up bile but I cant eat anything because the thought of it makes me throw up. When I do Eat im either nauseous or I end up vomiting. anyone know what could be happening??? Will it pass?? I am depressed over this.

I had surgery monday 9/26. Everything went well. My pain was alot so I stayed in the hospital till Wednesday morning. While in the hospital I had broth, but hardly ate it. Since today is my first day home I've have 2 premier shakes equally 60 grams of protein. I've successfully consumed at least 60 fl oz of fluids today. My scars ache a bit but I've been moving around and plan on going for a walk tomorrow. Gas pains are the absolute worst. I'm on a 2 week liquid diet, can't wait to actually be able to eat food again. Also any good recommendations for belly binders? -

I am so sorry to hear you're dealing with this @SleeveDiva2022 You know you can't have gained 9lbs of fat in 9 days based on your calorie intake so this has to be water weight and/or a completely overloaded bowel, and/or using different scales, or whatever. Hormones may well have a part to play but, if so, monitor your weight over a complete menstrual cycle (or two or three) and then decide what's going on. I do totally get the despair that a gain like that will induce but I hope it's a temporary blip for you. You have done amazingly well so far. Anyway - long story short - you got this. -

So good that you've found this forum - everyone here is so supportive. Sounds like revision is the right thing, particularly given your GERD. And congratulations on your new arrival (maybe not so new now?)!!! My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of 800 calories a day. I could do it whatever way I wanted. What I did was three meal replacement shakes or soups (or whatever) and a small protein and veg meal in the evening. I should say I live in Ireland so it's likely to be different for you. My original surgery date was cancelled the day before I was meant to have it and not re-scheduled for 2 months so I ended up sticking to the 800 calories (give or take) all that time and losing 25lbs. I now view those as pounds I don't have to work hard to lose now, although at the time it was absolutely agonizing waiting for a date!!! I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey. I think your experience with the sleeve and the challenges you faced along the way will really help you get the best out of a bypass. -

I still take a multivitamin (I always have so I plan to continue), the D3 (I have to anyway for my MS, so again, I have no plans to stop), and biotin (it's not hurting anything, so why not?). I stopped the calcium a few weeks ago because I get what I need from what I eat (particularly the shakes I have for breakfast because I make them with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and add chia seeds and flax seeds to them) and I normally have 2 colby jack cheese sticks for a snack. My most recent bloodwork came back good, so I was told I could stop the calcium and see how things go. -

Thank you Kim. That's nice that you have options. Yeah if I do eat anything it will be low carb for sure. I think for at least the first week I'll do just liquids then add some low carb food. -
it is really individual; but honestly 1/2 lb a day sounds great!! there is an average weight loss time period. most people loose a decreasing amount per month for about 18 months. In that time there will be times of both rapid weight loss, steady weight loss and stalls where no weight is lost or it fluctuates up and down within water weight range (8 lbs is a gallon of retained fluid) stick to your program, watch what you eat and get your body moving. build muscle as much as you can.

So, the $64,000 question that I'm sure all newbies want to know: how fast (on average) do most people lose weight after surgery. I know, I know, everyone's different, but surely there is a range. I lost very quickly before and immediately after surgery, but now that I'm about 6 or 7 weeks out, it has slowed dramatically (less than 1/2 pound per day). Is that common? Does it speed up and slow down and then back up and down (much like my investments 🤣)? I'm trying to lose another 50-60 pounds. Should I be thinking 6 months or 2 years? Thanks PS: I bet no one has ever asked this before. Sorry, couldn't find a thread on this.

good for you to tackle the problem from several angles at once! as long as you are trying you are NOT a failure but a work in progress!!!! i am pre op but was given the choice of 2 diets; 4-5 premier protein or similar profiled shakes shakes a day and one meal of vegetables and lean protein or 50 total (not net) carbs a day max. i am doing the 50 carbs a day and have been since august. lost about 23 since i got down to 50 carbs a day (5-6 weeks; dropped down carb count for three weeks previous to get used to it) and 16 lbs since August 29th. I am excited for your new start!! i hope you find success to propel you. -

I tend to gain 2-4 pounds anytime I hit a stall, and then I stay there for a few weeks. Once the stall breaks, I drop like 6 pounds at once. It's normal, and it'll pass. Just be patient. -

If you look in the heading banner, find Forums and use the drop-down arrow. You will find 14 pages of Pre op diets. In the Uk we have different diets so my help would be unhelpful. I can say that by being on this forum for over a year, I have picked up some knowledge of the US diets. I believe the norm is 4 shakes, sugar free popsicles and maybe a fat free yogurt. This lasts about 2 weeks. With a bit of luck someone will chip in who actually did your pre op diet. Nobody on here will call you a failure, we are a kind bunch. Please give yourself some love. You have gone through so much and you didn't mention Covid. That alone made me pack on another 30+ pounds. I was doing the best I could, so did you. Don't be a stranger anymore. What about it can't you have? I'm guessing its the tomato based sauce? Its so weird how every Dr is different. Hopefully with at least having new foods to try, this week will go fast for you and you can have even more new things to try next week. -

I'm super jealous. I moved on to "pureed", foods, but it's just Cottage Cheese, Ricotta Cheese, and Yogurt only until my 2 week appointment. Only after that am I allowed to move to things like beans, chicken, tuna, etc. I can't even do the ricotta bake until then (I asked). -

As everyone and anyone will tell you comparing your progress with others usually comes to no good. If you use the info you are asking for to make healthy/sustainable changes or as a source of peaceful motivation, than yay! But if the info gives you angst and sends you in an im-a-failure spiral, then boo. With that said, i will assume you are an even-headed adult, and, because you asked: I too am 5’2, and I started my 2 week pre-op diet at 235 lbs. I was 46 when I had the sleeve. At my 4.5 months post i was down 80.1 lbs (that includes the 11.8 lbs i lost during the 2-wk pre-op diet). At 7 months post i called goal when I hit 127 lbs (108 lbs lost for those lazy-mathers). Stabilized at 115-ish at around 10 months post. Its been 4 years since i had my surgery and i bounce around 115-120 (closer to 120 these days). Regarding clothes sizes, in the beginning i felt like i was going down a size every 2 weeks. It slowed down as i neared goal. -

I bought a cookbook called Southern Keto and it has an awesome taco soup recipe in it. I am leaning towards soft foods though. I made it and then blended it down to pureed. Soooo good. Making it again this week. My family eats it not blended. I am also making a recipe from pinterest right now. Look at soft foods and then blend. -
I was asked twice in the last week whether I had lost weight on purpose - assume it's because my face is so much thinner. Gonna keep chugging on for a while yet - might be good insurance in case of a regain further down the line.

I REALLY hate PCOS...I feel defeated...
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so upset. In the last 9 days I've gained 9 pounds!!! Nothing has changed with my diet and workouts. I take my vitamins like I'm supposed to. I never cheat on my diet, I work out 5 days a week. So I called my dietician and after we went over everything she said "remember when I told you that having pcos would cause you problems with weight loss? Well here it is. If you remember, you lost 100 pounds on keto and then the weight just started coming back no matter what you did? It looks like it's happening again." I literally started to cry, because nothing I did stopped the weight from coming back. I asked if I could do a pouch reset and maybe reverse it now and she said "you certainly can try, but you aren't gaining because of over eating or cheating on your diet. You're gaining because of a hormonal imbalance that seems to like you being fat". I don't know what to do. I had such high hopes that the surgery and weight loss would help improve the pcos, but it looks like, once again, it's out to sabotage me. I guess it's not enough that it caused me to have 10 miscarriages through the years, or need fertility meds to have my daughter, or never be able to get pregnant again after her. Now it won't let me lose weight and keep it off. I feel so defeated. All my hard work and once again, it's all for nothing.
