    Is it true (or common)?

Not really. 12 weeks after my surgery I had lost 73 pounds; I have lost a total of 123. So, in my case I had lost well over half what I've lost toal.

    Is it true (or common)?

At 12 weeks I had lost 36lbs from surgery, 56 from highest. At 1 year I was down 80lbs from surgery, 100lbs from highest. I reached goal (114lbs lost) at 14 months. I think this is HIGHLY variable depending on start weight, how much total weight you want to lose, metabolism, etc etc etc. It might be a helpful anecdote, but probably not something to take as fact.

    Is it true (or common)?

I lost 53 pounds in the first 12 weeks and an additional 68 pounds for a total of 121 pounds the first year (not counting the weight I lost before my surgery). The second year I lost another 26 pounds. Then this year I gained back some weight and am up about 13 pounds from my lowest weight (but this is common to gain back in your third year).
  4. How much does your plan recommend? If they didn’t give you portion size recommendations I’d ask ask for some that will meet your needs especially if you feel more comfortable & confident with them. Best advice then is to follow your plan. Remember all because you can doesn’t mean you should. As you know there are differences with plans. Like I was told 1/4 - 1/3 cup from purée slowly increasing to about a cup near goal. I was never given calorie goals. Some are advised a larger portion because they are given a higher caloric goal. (I wasn’t given calorie goals just portion size recommendations.) I’d think everyone is able to eat/drink more soup, shakes & broths because they’re liquids & go through our tummy more quickly. I’d sip on them for hours … until the soup got too chunky.

I highly recommend this video (which another very kind member shared a little while ago) which may help with your question. The thing about weight loss is there is a lot of averages & the stats you mentioned are an example. There are averages for how much weight you’ll lose, how long it will take, how fast or slow you’ll lose, etc. They’re averages because there are so many factors which influence those stats: age, gender, starting weight, weight loss before surgery, weight loss & gain history, health issues, medications, your new set point, how closely you follow your plan, the lifestyle changes you implement (food choices, activity, …) & so on. As with all averages some will exceed them others won’t reach them. What averages give you are an idea of what might happen. Not a rule but a guideline of what might happen. I’m one of those who exceeded the average. At 12 weeks from surgery I’d lost about 15kg. I’d lost 31kg (including the 5kg pre surgery so about the double amount & got me to my goal) at 6 months. At 12 months I’d lost a total of about 41kgs (not intentionally but it was where my body wanted to be - my new set point). I bounced around there for another couple of months before settling about another kilo lighter (total 42.5kg lost). This was my experience.

    Is it true (or common)?

I've heard that as a rule of thumb, but it's not true for everyone. I'd lost 40 lbs at 12 weeks, and 129 lbs at the year mark (so in other words, an addition 89 lbs). and no, I wasn't done losing at the year mark, but my weight loss was pretty slow after that mark. I didn't quit losing until I was 20 months out.

I think I lost 30 by week 12 and I've currently lost 80. Hasn't even been a year yet it's been 8 months. Sent from my T601DL using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I heard that the weight lost from surgery day to the 12 week mark is most commonly half of what the patient will lose total by their 1 year mark? For example, if I've lost 30 pounds by my 12 week weigh-in, I will only lose another 30 by my 1 year surgery anniversary. For a total of 60 pounds lost in the first year post-op. How true is this for you guys? Are most of you done losing around the 1 year mark? I know everyone is different and each situation is unique. I'm just wondering out of curiosity. 9. Anyone having surgery on the 27th? I am looking to connect with someone to just chat with :)  If not, any helpful words of advice for me?  I am wondering if I should take a stool softener the week leading up to surgery to I’m *cough* clear things out. Hahah
  10. I am able to eat a bit more than recommended and I’m worried about it. I’m week 3-4 post op and can currently have eggs, toast, tuna etc. a stage let purée. I can eat about a cup and a half of strained soup in a sitting. I can eat a whole egg and a half a piece of toast in a sitting as well. Is this abnormal? Should I be concerned?
  11. I'm adding to this thread as I had a similar experience. I had gastric sleeve surgery on 12/14/22. Exactly 1 week later I had a severe rash all over my abdomen. The itching was unbearable. I couldn't stand to have anything touching the area and wore nightgowns all day and night for 2 weeks! The doctor told me to take Allegra and Rx'd a hydrocortisone cream. They helped a lot - as did cold compresses. It took about 2 weeks for the rash to go away.
  12. Wanted to see if anyone else is 6 weeks post op. I had my sleeve done 12/5/2022. Checking to see how they are getting along and howthere experience is going.
  13. anyone getting sleeved on the 27th of this month? If so how is it going with you?? what kind of pre-op diet are you on?? I am the 3 protein drinks with a small 3oz cooked protein meal with 2 cups of raw veggies which is cucumbers, tomatoes and all colors of bellpeppers!!

Hey y’all, it’s my second week post op and I’m progressing well towards my fluid intake. Sadly, I’m getting sick of all the water and juice. I tried Whey Protein shake but couldn’t handle the taste. I managed 1 once only. I would love mor fluid variety but not sure what I can drink

Don't worry too much about 1st week weight loss, you're still carrying a lot of fluids from surgery & it affects the scale.
  16. I went to a theme park twice last week & fit in every ride! & not gonna lie, I also compared my saftey bar w other people's & was surprised to see mine go lower/tighter than the people who sat next/near me. I'm especially proud since I had issues fitting in some of these rides at this exact theme park years ago

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hi everyone! had a couple of rough weeks dealing with a cold and a family member in ICU, but we are finally home and I'm back on track with my protein and fluids. Had to get an IV twice, I was getting leg cramps, but all should be moving towards the goal from now on. I do have a business trip next week but expect to follow plan since I'm now in the stage where I can basically eat up to 4oz of protein, salads, veggies and fruits, of course my intake is less than that, but it gives me variety.

    August surgery buddies!

It's great to be past the halfway point, isn't it? I'm there too, although I haven't lost much weight so far this month. I was hoping to get to 90 kilos this moths, but I'm not sure I will. The good news is that I'm 91 kilos now, the same that I weighed after my son was born almost ten years ago. So, everything I gained in the last decade is now gone. The exercise routine is not going well, unfortunately. There's too much ice and snow to do a lot of walking outside, and both my son and I got sick in the first week of January, and I'm still recovering. J haven't had a lot of energy after work, but hopefully I can make it to the gym next week.

    Pre-Op by a month and I'm scared...

March 2021, same month I turned 45 but I have a bunch of lesions, brain and spine, so who knows how long I've had them. First flare was 2-3 years before I think, Second started Nov 2020, I didn't have health insurance at the time so the urgent care and cash pay doctor's office weren't any help. Got insurance in January and my new PA said yep, let's send you for a MRI and neurologist.

Hi All my first post here had my surgery on 1/9. Only lost 4 lb in one week. I am reading some folks have lost as much as 10-15 lbs in the same period. Concerning? HW: 340 lb Surgery day: 275 lb
  22. So i just got back from a trip to Puerto Rico (work trip) and man that place is not for people who had weight loss surgery. 1st there is no sugar free anything. especially drinks. No sugar free gatorade, powerade ect... Nothing low carb. Bread is a huge huge part of everything. I even went to a walmart and nothing. just some protein bars and such. Only protein shakes i could find were just regular ensure and some other strange brand i have not seen. Best part was i finally fit in a coach seat without issue. before i would spill over to the next seat or be so tight it would be so uncomfortable. Now i fit perfect with plenty of room to spare. Got to say i am happy to be back.
  23. Hi all! I had Sleeve surgery 1.5 years ago and I lost 120lbs and hit my goal weight! Wahoo! I'm now maintaining. I have a child already that I had before surgery but I'm finding myself wanting one more. I love being able to move, play with my current child as I couldn't do this before. I'm VERY nervous that I will gain all my weight back that I worked so hard to get off. Or that my nutrients will be low ( I have to eat a multivitamin very very slowly because the iron makes me sick). I feel more confident than I have in years. I love the idea of two children but I do not want to risk my health.. Has anyone had a child 2-3 years out from surgery and not gained their weight back?Even if you gained 20 lbs were you able to get it back off?? I really appreciate the advice!
  24. So my diet is either 3-4 protein drinks or 2-3 protein drinks with a small protein meal 3 oz cooked and 1 cup cooked veggies/2 cups raw veggies I usually snack at work but Friday I had a extra cup of cucumbers!! With 3 oz chicken and a cup of mixed cooked veggies Yesterday i had 3 oz of steak, 2 cups of mixed veggies which was good. What else would yall eat
