June 18th Sleevers?
stacielynntate replied to newgirl2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having my revision from lap band to sleeve on the 28th as well and no preop diet for me. I have my preop apt on the 10th and will find out if he will have me do 1 week of liquids or 2 days of liquids before surgery. He normally does 2 day liquid diet but since I'm having revision he may require a week. How are you doing? I'm so ready for the 18th to get here. -
Revision RNY to distal RNY vs DS
kikie1973 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have a decision to make that I hope some of you can help me with...I had RNY in 2002...I'm looking to get a revision...the surgeon I have seen will only revise me to a distal RNY...I am more interested in the DS...should I trust him or look for another surgeon...this type of revision is only done by a handful of surgeons in the USA due to it's complexity Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
Revision from Sleeve to BYPASS needed long ago
Frustr8 replied to Pinkslippers4me's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
wishing you well for your planned revision, there are many who have gone through this recently. My friend Ellie 123 from Texas comes to mind but there are many more, if you only look. -

No, I wasn't hungry at all. I had my sleeve done 7 years ago. Just did the revision to modified DS this year. The liquid diet reset my stomach and I was surprised to feel full with such small portions. -
Banded 1 1/2 years Eroded and to be Removed
Short and Chunky replied to 2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
2012, so sorry to hear about your band and the erosion. Good thing you kept alert and kept getting things checked out. I had my band just shy of 3 years, got deathly ill this April and almost 30 hours of vomiting blood later, my band was removed. My band had slipped and almost 1/3 of my stomach was on the wrong side. I was throwing up my stomach lining. I had plication at the same time I got my band so when my band was removed, the plication remained (like a sleeve except it can be reversed). All of this happened 4/25/14 and I promptly gained 11 pounds..I am now headed back down. The doctor told me it was normal and not to panic. Keep walking and try to stay away from the carbs. Now I am at almost no carbs and the weight is coming off. Yes, I am scared and I really wish this had not happened, but it did and now I have to move on. Good luck with your surgery and what ever decision you make down the road about revision. There are lots of us out here who no longer have our bands - you have lots of company. Best Wishes Melinda in Florida -
Hi there. I took part in a bariatric study where I had no choice of what procedure to have. The only one I didn't want particularly was the band due to all the negative reviews. Funnily enough the computer chose the band for me, I had my concerns but the surgeon swayed me to it. So iwas banded in 2018 all was going well, went down from 165kg to 106kg so almost 60kg down. Untill a few months ago the band just overnight. Stopped working?! I always had bad reflux during (was prescribed lansoprozole) but this was really bad. Being sick in my sleep. Then the sleepless nights. I could eat what I wanted with zero restriction. The reason I had surgery is because my brain has no "off switch" so ovcourse as soon as my brain worked out I could eat what I want. I went to town. I have now regained to 140kg approaching my start weight. After tests at hospital (camera down throat and barium swallow) they couldn't for the life of them work out what was going on. To help me sleep at night they emptied the band. They tried to convince me to keep the band and try again but as it wad on my record that I did not want it in the first place they have kindly agreed to remove the band and have a revision to a bypass. (Within a few months I'm told. Just have to wait for the random phonecall 2 weeks prior like last time) Was/has anyone been in the same position??

Obsessed with constant eating, any hope for me?
Debbi1025 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I failed my lab band. Have had it for 11 years. Lost 60, gained it all back. Unless I take phentermine, I want to eat all the time and keep gaining weight. I'm wondering if I should consider a revision to a sleeve considering my food obsession. What do you think? Sent from my SM-G360P using the BariatricPal App -
Revision RNY to RNY 08/15/16 making pouch 1.5 oz. Can I still lose weight?
charmaine75 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this site. Iโm having a Revision from RNY to RNY 08/15/16 making my current pouch of 8 oz (1 cup) to a 1.5 oz pouch. Due to enlarged stoma of 3.5 centimeters big. My surgeon told me that I may not lose as much weight as before. Because must people who had revision lose little to no weight, but the issues will be fix. I donโt understand how I will not loss weight with a new smaller pouch. As long, as I eat healthy, watch portion size, exercise, stay motivated and have a great support system. Which I do. Can someone offer their opinion or been through this situation their self? My pouch been 8 ounces for the last 9 years. 3 years ago I start gaining weight and I would look at what I was doing and notice I ate more and the weight came on. And all this is because of the enlarge stoma, malabsorption and weight gain. -
Possible revision to sleeve from band
AnneElliot replied to alli.wakefield's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I would think long and hard about this decision. I had the revisions and coming to terms to accept my decision. It's incredibly difficult. I need to stop wishing I could go back in time. You can't reverse this like the lapband. That might sound good...but what ig something goes wrong. Acid reflux issues are real and they impact your life quality. Your young, can you live for the next 40 or 50 yrs without the majority of your stomach? Is it rational to destroy a healthy organg for weight loss when regain is real. Ppl do regain. All the best -
Revision surgery
catwoman7 replied to deannaculp's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
some insurance companies will cover revisions, and some only cover one surgery per lifetime. I have a friend who's had horrible problems with her 10-year-old lap band the last couple of years, but her insurance company refuses to cover a revision. of those companies that cover revisions, some will only cover them for some medical reason, like GERD or a mechanical flaw with the surgery, but not for regain (but some might cover for regain - not sure, though). the only way to know for sure if yours will cover it is to give them a call. I would imagine some might cover it - but some won't. -
I am relatively new here. Sorry that this is so long. I am starting the process of revision. I met with my surgeon who is great and told him that I wanted the band removed and probably convert to sleeve. I was extremely successful with the band and lost 100% of my excess body weight about 8 years ago and maintained for 3 years. I had two babies and due to severe morning sickness had to take 1/2 the Fluid out my band for each. For the first pregnancy I gained a ton of weight (70lbs) but lost all of it but 20lbs within a year before I got pregnant again. After the second baby (3 years ago) I have not been able to lose weight at all. I am now almost up to my pre-surgery weight. I have been struggling with the past 2 years with fills - my upper GI showed mild enlarged esophagus which returned to normal when fill was removed. Bottom line I realize now that the only way that the band worked for me so well was when it was extremely tight and it controlled my hunger. I don't think that this was o healthily and I don't think I can do this anymore without irritating and enlarging my esophagus. I prefer the sleeve over the bypass because I think restriction works well for me. I asked my surgeon about the esophagus problem and he said that it was being caused by the band and should not be a problem with the sleeve since my enlargement is very mild. I had an endoscopy and the GI doctor said the same thing - that I am in good shape and there is no reason for me not to have the surgery. Can someone explain to me why you do not get an enlarged esophagus with the sleeve? I do not understand the mechanics and I don't have another appointment with the surgeon for a month. Also can someone explain what it feels like to be full with the sleeve? With the band I got a painful feeling. When my esophagus was enlarging I was able to eat a lot and it sort of felt like it was in my throat. Does this happen with the sleeve? I am worried that I am "used" to the feeling of food in my throat and the sleeve will not work for me. I am probably being neurotic here! I want to state also that I completely trust my surgeon and he is world renowned at a top teaching hospital in NY. I just want to understand how this works! The surgeon said the sleeve is the way to go for me over the bypass. Thanks!

Band Hasn't Worked For 5 Yrs....thinking Of Removing
reshiapooh96 replied to jodie1961's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my opinion is If you were banded and for whatever reason you were unsuccessful in losing all the weight that you needed to lose, having the band removed and revising to another weight loss surgery is one's own preference. whether you've failed the band or it failed you, as it was mentioned, everyone is different. There is no need to shut the gate after the horse gets out. -
Band to sleeve revision scheduled in Mexico in October
Endora posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, all.... After extensive research, I've decided to revise from band to sleeve in Mexico. I was banded in 2005, and want to know about the issues with scar tissue. I have read some posts here where some people had a lot of scar tissue, but the surgeon completed the revision. While other surgeons didn't complete the revision because of scar tissue. For those of you who had your band over 10 years, and revised to sleeve, what was your experience with the scar tissue? Does it develop because of he length of time the band is in place? Or does it develop based on the person's body? Any insight is appreciated. -

Kaiser SO CAL? Surgeons

Hey, had band removal, sleeve revision & hernia fixed on 5/20 by Dr. Chin out of the Redlands office. Loved it! I'm down 15 so far, and the after care has been awesome. I would also recommend getting involved with the support group out in Fontana at the weight management center. My stay at St. Bees was good and am up and around doing well. The Kaiser program is WAY better than I had with my banding experience. Education is the key and they help in all capacities with that. Good luck. -
so i have my surgery scheduled for the day after thanksgiving. im having my lapband removed and revised the the sleeve. i went for preop testing and tested positive for H pylori. Had to start a round of heavy duty antibiotics and now my surgery might be postponed. :-( Very upsetting. and i am wondering why if its routine to check for this before this type of surgery my doctor waited so long to check me for it? Feeling Furious! anyone out there find out they had hpylori in there preop testing and how long did it take to clear up? (its a bacteria in the stomach that causes infection in the lining of your stomach, my level wasnt very high so the infection must not be that bad )

Old Timers-What is the point of WLS if many regain/have hunger/diet drama..
James Marusek replied to Anna Nim's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had severe acid reflux (GERD). As a result, this is a recommended surgery because the sleeve will only make the condition worse. Also, RNY gastric bypass is almost a gold standard. It has been around a lot longer and they have for the most part got the bugs worked out. It has one of the lowest revision rates and I decided if I underwent the knife once, I sure would not want to repeat the experience. -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?

My biggest fear is regain with all the talk from people about the lack of restriction they feel post vsg to rny revision. I would prefer to keep maintaining close to my current weight as it is a place I am happy with. -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?

I had my rny in January. Only a couple months later I started to develop ulcers. Last week I went to the ER with increased pain to find that even with treatment I had one ulcer that had perforated. I had to have an emergency revision. I can totally relate as I dropped 10 lbs in one week and the pain has definitely been more intense. I also had some constipation issues so they gave me magnesium citrate which helped. This has been hard because I was just feeling like a normal human after 6 months and I literally am starting over ๐ I hope you have a speedy recovery! -

3 days post op from revision and hiatal hernia repair. Way more pain this time than before. My surgeon said I could try a protein shake tomorrow but I am having pain eating a sugar free jello. So far the best things have been sugar free Popsicles and twinings comfort tea with a little stevia. I am wearing a binder and using a cane to walk around the house due to the abdominal pain. I have not felt any gerd yet so hopefully it stays away. -

I had absolutely terrible constipation post revision too! I also had an enema then stayed on laxatives for a long time, under the supervision of my surgeon of course. (I was so afraid of constipation again that I think I stayed on them a lot longer than I should have. In fact I am finally lax free using a stool softener only when necessary. But Iโm happy to report that the plumbing still works on itโs own ๐๐ฝ) Speedy Recovery! -
Just wanted to get some feedback on my progress. I had a port revision on Oct 29. At the time of surgery There were 4CC put in my band. Since then I have had 3 fills. My last fill was Monday Jan 2 for a total of 6.5CC. Prior to the last fill this past monday I have been at a plateu with my weight. The scale does not move below 243lbs. Obviously with this last fill it is to early to tell, but prior to this one I was having signs of some restrictions, still able to eat anything. I am just wondering if anyone has experience the same thing. I guess my question is why am I not loosing weight. I am tracking everything I am eating staying within about 1200 cals a day. Exercising 3-4 times a week and My weight is not budgeting. To date I have lost about 15lbs.. When should I start seeing results??? I am really starting to get frustrated but trying to keep it positive. I am really hoping, this fill gives me what i need to get a push. I have a realize J&J band. Any suggestions????
