    Getting Banded Monday

Mine is at 10:30. I have to be there at 8:30 which is pretty standard I think. I was hoping for a really early one so I wouldn't have time to worry. I will keep you in my prayers tomorrow!

    Diagnostics Appointment

The cost is 12,400, but I am financing it through CareCredit. My payments will be about 225 a month for 7 years. I think that is the minimum payment, but I can pay it off before 7 years if I want to. The 12,400 also covers up to 10 fills for two years.

    Need encouragement

Deanna, I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Mine was not very supportive of me either. I too have 2 small children at home. My mom drove me to the hospital and I had to stay overnight because the surgery took over 3 hours and ended late in the evening. When I was released the next morning, I had to go home and take care of kids because my husband had to go to work. Yes, I was a little sore, but it really was not as bad as I thought is was going to be. In fact, my doctor really encouraged me to go home and NOT be inactive. So taking care of the kids actually helped me to not just crawl in bed and sleep it off. My youngest son was still in diapers and I just set up a changing station on the floor because I was not allowed to lift him. I used to hear the same comments from my husband about not having enough willpower to eat smaller portions on my own. I decided I was having the surgery no matter what he thought. It has been 10 months and I've lost 65 lbs. I'm about 20 pounds from goal and already planning to have a tummy tuck and breast lift when I get to goal. I know these surgeries won't be as easy as Lap Band and I'm prepared to hire a nannny for a few weeks if I have to. My husband can't stop commenting on how great I look and how wonderful I'm doing with exercising, etc. I'm so glad that I didn't let his lack of encouragement and help stop me from doing this wonderful thing for myself. I would go ahead with the surgery. Just think how much easier it will be to find a great supportive guy after you lose your weight if you decide that you no longer want to be married. Just my 2 cents.

    I can still eat???

Susie, do you take any kind of HRT? Robin, his nurse, seems to think that's what is slowing down my weight loss. I do everything I am told to do and I exercise regularly. I am just hoping this next fill is going to help me start losing. I have only lost 10 lbs since I was off the liquid diet.

    energy levels

Bux - in response to your question. I think the difference for me was my Protein Drink consumption. I had surgery on March 1st at 10:00 a.m. That night I was walking around the mall. I was back at work on the follow Tuesday. I have felt great ever since. Energy level and recovery from surgery will vary on the individual. All I can say is I have lost 45 lbs since March 1st, I have never felt better and had more energy. I often opt to walk to local businesses vs driving just so I can get exercise. Good luck to you. Find a good Protein drink and enjoy the start of your new life! Michael
  12. Hi, I know exactly how you feel. I am on day 8 of a 10-day liquid diet, and on day 5, I cheated pretty bad. I ate a piece of bread and some crackers...a whole bunch of carbs, which is the one thing I am not supposed to eat. I was feeling pretty guilty, but I got over it and just used it as motivation to get through the remaining days. The first couple days are the worst, but after those bad days, it is almost like your body gets used to the diet and it is not as difficult. For the first few days, the protein shakes were doing nothing for me when it came to hunger. Now, the shakes somehow fill me up.
  13. Ok, so I've been on the pre-op diet for 12 days now (my surgery is on 2/25) and I've only lost 5 pounds. I kind of expected like 10 pounds at least. Does this mean that I'll be a slow loser?
  14. Isopure Dutch chocolate low carb from GNC. I used to prefer Slim Fast low carb, but the Isopure is actually better. A bit thinner but without the aftertaste. Best of all it has 40 gm Protein vs the 10 in Slim Fast. Imagine drinking 4 12oz cans of slim fast after the surgery just to get the same amount of protein. .
  15. Hi I was approved for my band and due to have surgery on Sept. 10 My insurance company lists that my Dr. is on their in plan and his name is even in my health plan manual along with a lisiting of all the other bariatric surgeons/general surgeons in thier group for they fall under the same address at least. Well anyway yesterday I got in the mail a letter from the Bariatric Group telling me that I need to sign the enclosed document in order for them to submit the claim to my provider which is no problem however as I am reading this over and over again not to miss anything I read the partWaco Bariatric Surgeons and physicans are non-participating providers with insurance companies for bariatric services and in order for me to have the surgery I need to pay up front 3500.00 for the surgeon and his assistant surgeon and it includes two pot op visits. But according to my provider yes they are covered under my plan and I have a letter stating just that and a fax from them too! Ok now here is the real kicker at the seminar I attended in March, we were all told that the fees paid will cover 1 year free fills, and that all the visits were included this was discussed several times by other people at the seminar. Wow now what do I do I don't have the money and cannot afford another bill coming in and I am just so confused and thinking of not having the surgery even ifg the insurance does cover it all due to the stress and the un known after surgery as to the costs. I just need to vent here but i still don't feel better. I will call my insurance company on Monday and tell them of this and see what they ahve to say and I am contacting the bariatric center as well. Seems really odd that no one mentions certain things at the seminar but now after insurance approval comes through tehre is a whole list of thigs I have to do and buy before surgery. Wow. Well thanks for listening. Sharon
  16. I'm just workin on liquids and getting my medications in. I have at least 7 RX meds I must take daily. So I take on every couple hours. So I'm constantly popping pills, THANK GOD they are all tiny because I don't have to worry about crushing them Dr. Castro looked all of them up to make sure they are all okay and not too large. He's definately a keeper. I just have to space them out and not take them at once like I did before. I gained over 10 pounds in the hospital. My hands looked like little sausages. lol

    Lap band and autoimmune?

I also have severe psoriasis and was worried about not being able to have the surgery, but I spoke to the mother of a friend of mine. She has psoriasis and RA and got banded about 6 months ago. She did have to stop taking Methotraxate and her shots of Enbrel 10 days before and 10 days after surgery and ended up having a bad break out, but all is better now. I am going to try to schedule my surgery during the summer, which is when my psoriasis is often times in control, so that if I have a flare up from being off of Enbrel, it won't be unbearable. Hopefully losing weight will keep the psoriasis at bay and I can stop the Enbrel and the topical steroids for good!!!! Good luck to you.

Hair still falling out at 7 months

My hair loss started about 3 months out and seemed to slow about 10 months out. Now its growing back in and getting thicker all the time. And yes I took the Biotin and daily met my Protein goals but it still fell out. I was a slow loser too. So hang in there you're almost to the end of the hair loss period. Wishing you all the best!

    The Last Suppers.......

dont feel too bad I thought I could have a last meal closer than what actually happened. I am on 2 Protein shakes a day one protein meal for either lunch/dinner. I was thinking god I would give ANYTHING to have 10 wings the night before my surgery.
  22. Hi. First of all -good luck to you. I do not travel as much as you do, but I did have two back to back business trips about 10 days post-op. I tried to have as much soup as possible (technically, I was supposed to be on mushies during my first trip). I was not a fish eater pre-op, but I am now! I tried to order fish whenever possible. For sides, mashed or baked potato (no skin). I did just fine. I also found a small portable battery operated drink mixer. I packed it in my suitcase along with Opti-fast powder and Unjury single serve packets. I transfer the shakes to a throw away water bottle and sipped during the day. If anyone asked, I just said it was a protein shake. Very few questions. Hope this helps.

    any suggestions???

None of us can really help you with those questions unfortunately. As all insurances have different policies and procedures on getting qualified for the surgery. I was very fortunate and didn't have the supervised diet plan or weigh-ins. My PCP referred me, my surgeon documented my problems, had the pysch and nutrtion exams and then off for insurance approval. 5 days later insurance approved and then 1/16/09 I had surgery. This all started 10/24/08. So in less than 3 months I had everything done. My advice to you would be to call your insurance company and ask what their requirements for approval for the lapband. I did this with my insurance and they told me everything I needed to do. I hope this information helps!
  24. I finished my 6 month diet in July. I lost some weight the first two months then gained in the third went down a little in the fourth then back up again in the fifth and no change in the sixth. In the end I was down 10 pounds total. I know I could have done better but my nutritionist was more concerned with my getting healthy than losing weight. We submitted my paperwork on August 14th and I got my approval today!!! So don't fret! I got an initial denial but only because they were missing some info, so make sure they have everything required and you should be fine.
  25. You might try gargling with salt water before taking any cold meds, Zicam or anything else without checking with your surgeon. Many products will cause you not to be eligible for surgery if taken within 10 days of the surgery. Hope you feel better soon!
