Vitamin & iron deficiencies after DS

no I don't think ive been over 80k per day & that was only for a month. Mostly it's about 50k. I usually recheck labs every 3-4mo. Only 3x in 4 yrs has the D touched the lowest of normal range. It's mostly way below normal in teens. The A & E have never been even close to normal no matter what I've tried. Does your low D cause depression & fatigue? I deal with that, as well as the last 3 months, dizziness & nausea but not sure if that's coming from any vitamin deficiency or something completely different. Thankfully my calcium & Bs have stayed normal.
  2. It gets easier, but it’s still rough sometimes. On the upside, hubs and I rarely go out to eat anymore bc of this, therefore it’s great for our budget. On the downside,I’ve had to learn to tell myself repeatedly that IDGAS what the servers or restaurant staff think of me when I I order an appetizer as a meal (honestly it’s so tedious sometimes to explain that I want it brought when everyone’s meal arrives because IT IS MY MEAL) or when hubs and I share an app and I take small bites off of his plate and ask for an extra smaller plate. You would think with more and more bari brothers and sisters out there that this would be so common, but it’s still hard for people to understand. It’s like our society exists to stuff our faces with as much crap as we can when we go out rather than enjoy the experience of going out.

    Weight loss

Setbacks are normal, no one is perfect, if we were, then we would not need the surgery. Recently my current PCP provided a prescription for Contrave to help control my appetite, unfortunately after 2 weeks I feel no difference. I have been on several different weight loss prescriptions over the last couple of years and unfortunately no long term changes either. The only thing that really worked for me was being active in Weight Watchers, going to the weekly meetings and actively participating in the support groups. Although I am going the self-pay route to avoid the insurance company BS my PCP wants me to loose about 20 to 30 pounds before usury. I plan to rejoin Weight Watchers a month or two post opp when I am back to eating somewhat normal.

    Hunger

I am ok with the shaved ice and I do better with cold liquids vs room temp I was told i can have boost glucose control and carnation healthy start which are helping I keep forgetting the tea ... ..and have bouts of hangry because everybody else in the house must be fed. This zero yogurt i have Monday is going to be the best ever lol. Didn't realize how emotional I would be and how fast the weight would be coming off even before surgery i lost 7 lbs from Friday to Monday. I have a heightened sense of smell for food for some reason. I keep getting random painful hiccups and only two of my incisions hurt but the others itch like crazy which I know signifies healing but oddly enough where they injected my blood thinner days ago itches more than anything. But I'm trying to stay positive ..and not bite somebody lol

    Liquid diet struggles

I start my pre-surgery diet in just over a week (one day before my 50th birthday). Blossom requires protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a lean meat for dinner. My biggest fear is how to survive on that few calories for two weeks. First, I don’t sleep if my stomach is growling. Second, my blood sugar is going to tank which makes driving unsafe bc it makes me want to fall asleep at the wheel (I have reactive hypoglycemia). How on earth do people deal with these types of issues on so few calories?! If I could subsist on 600 calories a day I’d have been doing it a long time ago. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ So I’m more worried about the peripherals then anything. Forging ahead no matter what but a bit concerned about the pre-diet.

    How to start?

I’m paying out of pocket through Blossom Bariatric and it’s $9499 bc they are estimating they can get our insurance to pay the difference up to their $15k fee. The deal with Blossom is if your insurance doesn’t pay the difference then you only pay the amount they quoted you. If you’re 100% cash it’s $15k.

Yeah that happened to me too! It's bc we have to wait the 30 mins before and after we eat, so if you're eating frequent small portions, that time adds up! The window is just smaller Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

    Pre Op

Good luck! I also had to quit smoking for approval. I quit on 1/1/20 and still have cravings when I get stressed. I'm concerned that after the surgery i may struggle bc i can't smoke, stress eat or drink alchohol. So I've made appts to see two therapist and hopefully one of them will be a fit. I need new coping strategies since I can't take the old ones into my new life with me. I hope you get approved quickly. Keep us updated! When are they requesting the preapproval? 9. I had my surgery feb 6th 2020 as well as my mom did. I found this program and I made sure my mom and I would be in the same room and they confirmed it multiple times!! This program has extremely high reviews bc THEY DONT ALLOW BAD REVIEWS ON THEIR PAGES. We get there and we are separate. It’s very scary being somewhere especially out of country (I’ve never been out of country) with just my mom and now being in different rooms under going a serious surgery I called Joanne and she told me that she never told me that... pisses me off bc she confirmed it a few times (I woulda never gone if I knew we would be separated) Anyways The nurses (night shift) turn your beepers off and act like you are putting them out, took them about 2 hours for them to finally respond to your call when you push the button. My mom was leaking out of her incision and she told about 4 people her bed was covered in blood (we took pictures bc we knew they would deny it ) and still no one did anything about it until 4 hours later someone just threw a towel over the bloody bed. I finally felt good enough to go in and check on her. We were terrified to continue to ask for help bc they were already making us get our own ice and we’re turning our room monitors off when we kept calling for help The next day the day shift finally changed her sheets. The women at the front desk don’t help with anything. They never gave my mom a breathing machine until a day and a half after her surgery. One was a asleep and the other was playing on her phone the whole night. The stay was bad. Anyways the part your probably more concerned about was the surgery it’s self... they woke me up in the recovery room and I was in Excruciating pain! Worst pain I’ve ever been in in my entire life. I slept on and off for 24 hours that day bc I just couldn’t handle the pain. My mom was in bad pain too. She coughed and she said she felt something ripped and I ran as fast as I could being in so much pain the tell the nurse and he had to go get a coffee and enjoy it before he checked on her which was about 2-3 hours later while she laid there in Tremendous pain. I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone I’m shocked it had such good ratings! There also was another women getting the same thing and had the exact same problems and they just left her and didn’t help with anything. Also thru the entire process the founder of Beliteweight or anyone in that program never once called to check on me or my mom or the other lady! They just want your money.. DONT DO IT

    Not enough weight for surgery

Yes, I am scheduled for RNY on March 11, and have struggled both with my feelings and with others’ perceptions that since I “only” have 100 lbs to lose that this step is too extreme. I’m a 40 BMI. But the two things that I keep telling myself are 1) I gained the most recent 30 lbs bc of some meds I am on, and immediately obesity-related health problems came up. So this is no only about me wanting to wear a single digit dress size. This is about my actual long-term health and being healthy and alive for my family. And 2) I have TRIED all the “traditional” strategies, and no matter how hard I try, I just never really lose. I just keep gaining. So, why wait until I’m 200 lbs overweight instead of 100? So, I’m still working through this myself, and I’m happy to share thoughts with other lower BMI patients as we go through this. I do believe though in my heart that I’m doing the right thing.
  11. Generally, if people are hungry every two hours after some time out, it could be a few things, but Occam's Razor (simplest is best), will show you that most of the breakthrough hunger is caused by: 1. Blood sugar crashes and insulin spikes from the previous meal. ( A meal should be able to last someone 3-6 hours and if you're feeling hungry at <2hours, you can find the culprit by looking at your food log. Anything with added sugar, fake sugar, or fast carbs - talking bout you Mr. Ritz! will cause this type of phenomenon. It can also be caused by habit...habitually eating every 2 hours never allows our blood sugar to go back to normal, and so we perceive that we need to eat cuz we're starving or shaky when the blood sugar hits normal rather than "low" or low normal. Point blank, it also hard wires the habit to receive a hit to the hedonic pleasure center every 2 hours. So the more we eat the more we get used to eating and want to eat. Also, snacks are usually pretty unregulated. I can EASILY add 500 calories in a snack to my daily total. So not only will I stall...I will gain.) 2. Your restriction prevents you from taking in adequate protein per meal. Usually 2-4oz of protein per meal will last a "normal" non-athlete between 3-4 hours. Anything less than that, and yeah you could be legit straight up hungry every 2 hours. 3. Your exercise level is causing blood sugar disregulation and causing you to go low (usually anything over 2 hours) which causes hunger. 4. It could be that time of the month...just sayin... 5. It could be that a medicine you're now taking or a vitamin you're taking has gone too high. (I can tell when I need to lay off my B-Complex and B-12 for a couple days. I get voraciously hungry. And the hunger dissipates the further out from my last dose of Bs. Check your vit levels with your doctor and tell him/her about your voracious appetite. 6. You need water. Lots of it. You are dehydrated. 7. It's natural. Around 7-9 months my appetite came back like there is no tomorrow. I added in IF at that point since I could easily satisfy daily protein needs with food. By adding IF, I was able to control my insulin and no more blood sugar rollercoasters and lost the rest of my weight.

I had RNY bypass revision after lapband done in 2013 so going into 2 weeks ago (Jan 27th) and I am able to drink Water, only core power protein shakes bc I’m allergic to Whey protein I discovered without sipping also and I am on Presoft foods already per my doctor stating in paperwork if I felt ok to move to Presoft go forward so that consist of Soups, unsweetened applesauce and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt and I have been fine I have appt today for my two week follow up but I had a very bad allergic reaction and I am on three meds to help me not get a ulcer and prednisone(which has not made me hungry😊) to help with the itchy, red breakout. It’s been only two days since I been on the prednisone but I can tell it’s working already still a little itchy but the rash is fading. I think it’s just us healing but the food part is weird bc I thought it would feel major restrictive like the band was but it’s not been that way so far hopefully my pouch is fine. Praying that the doctor states I can start back exercising today I have a treadmill at home and weights but I’ve already lost in two weeks a good amount so you guys are giving me hope! Go Jan Surgery tribe✨💕Thanks for sharing😊

  16. I had my surgery 8/15/19 I lost weight rapidly i couldn’t keep food down even when i didn’t eat i was dry heaving. Eventually i had my gallbladder taken out thinking that it was part of the problem. At one point i passed out in my tub with my heart rate extremely high. I was so sick from puking my vitamins dropped and my thiamine was at a all time low to the point that i had vision, hearing issues, and dementia. I’m now in a wheelchair bc my legs gave out on me due to nerve damage and neuropathy. It’s really put me in a bad place. I cry almost every day, there’s not much i can do. I feel stuck, i feel like a burden, i wish i could just go back to normal.
  17. Ah, but darling. You are labeling what you experience right now as maintenance. But the scale is singing a different tune. The scale still shows you continuing to lose (albeit slower). So you are still in WLM, my love. And if you don't track while still actively losing (with the scale at least), how do you know how many more macros to add so that you actually ARE in maintenance. So we can call a pizza a football, but it's still gonna be a pizza. This is a beautiful thing! And as far as dietary fat goes, I vaguely remember my onc telling me that dietary fat only was linked to TNBC. Being on the thinner side as a cancer patient is where my onc wants all of his patients. He wants them to do whatever it takes to make it happen. He's very upfront about that. So glad you are 10 years out and at zero chance of recurrence! I had less than a 50% chance of 5 year survivor at 3C with the # of pos lymph nodes and the breach of one. But at 8 years, he keeps telling me how my survival rate is improving. I think I'm at 75/25 now? And we hope for 10 years with also the same risk of recurrence as someone who never had BC. (As long as I maintain a normal weight with zero regain.) But I think he's gonna want me on letrozole for life. He keeps some of his patients on it for life, especially if they had a buttload of nodes positive and still active at surgery.

Hi all! RNY on 1/27 for gastroparesis and feed and bile reflux. Had a scrambled egg with a little cheese this morning and was scared bc so many people say they have issues with eggs but I had no issues! Except u get so thirsty when I eat so it's so hard for me not to grab a swig of water ! Glad to see everyone here! Have my two week post op on Tuesday and hope cleared for slight weight machines at the gym because I feel like a pile of goo! Haha I used to go to a kickboxing and CrossFit gym and know I won't be in any shape to do that for a few months but miss the feeling of not being tired and mushy haha Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  19. I just had a revision from mgb to full bypass on Monday Feb 3rd. I just flew home last night. I went to Dr. Illan and he and his staff are amazing. They are very good about answering all your questions and catering to your companion if you bring one. All my husbands meals were brought right to my room. The hospital is sparkling clean and very modern. You can check it out on facebook at Hospital BC. There are videos of the hospital and testimonials from patients. Dr. Illan and his staff are the best!

Oh also, the entire reason I had this surgery was bc I have (had?) gastroparesis and severe GERD and bile reflux. I am overweight but in otherwise good health and fit and active. My weight didn't bother me. (I mean I'm not mad at the loss lol) If I was going for weightloss I can see the benefit of the sleeve. I just didn't have a choice. My bariatric center was an accredited center of excellence too and my surgeon top rated. I really liked him! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

    FEP Blue Approval Time

I also have BC/BS. I actually called them directly and they informed me my request for sleeve was approved. My dr only submitted about a week or so ago. They said I would get a letter but haven’t yet, nor have I heard from the dr. But I know I’m approved and will have my surgery on 02/28.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

@Apple1-really messes w your mind huh?! Work our hard and see the scale go up is disheartening. I’ve been back to the gym now for 3 weeks and the scale hasn’t went down. My hub says it’s bc I’m building muscle. Maybe so. When I had my sleeve I lost a lot of muscle. So maybe I’m slowly building it back. Wish looking back that I had lost slower w keeping my muscle up as oppose to losing really fast and losing a lot of muscle. Anyways working at building it back but it sure is depressing to work hard at the gym and not see the reflection on the scale (I weigh every day). Helps me be accountable and catch fluctuations like I have now. Still in my window but at the top of window.
  23. True. If I don’t get at least 7 hrs sleep, I’m going to feel like crap and need to break my fast earlier. Which sucks bc getting enough sleep sometimes is nearly impossible

    Itching at incision sites

Gastric RNY 1/27...This is exactly what I am going thru right now itching all over my body. I have broken out on my arms, legs, face, back and it’s nonstop itchy! I took benedryl and been through two tubes of cortisone 10. I just emailed my doctor told her we have to figure something out bc now I can’t sleep..I’ve been reading up on this and it’s stating it’s common due to allergic reaction to the surgical glue. I went and got some 100% aloe to help give little relief any suggestions? Do you think I should ask for prednisone bc I’ve seen others say that’s what’s helped with this same issue?? Anyone else out there with any suggestions??
