    Anyone for September 2020?

Surgery was this morning (revision from sleeve to bypass for GERD). So far I am doing very well and much better than I did at this point after sleeve. I’m already walking the whole hallway and have passed my sips test, so am drinking water and watered down apple juice. I am so happy I went through with this!

    No loss yet

I had my Gastric Bypass on September 1st...at my first post-op appointment (Sept 10th) I hadn’t lose anything. Dr told me it takes a little bit to get all that extra fluid out of your system. As of today my scale is showing 20lbs down..but I will wait until my next appt on Oct 5th for an official verdict...I don’t trust my scale lol.
  3. Hello Twism44--It is so nice to hear that we can relate. I have been post op from my Gastric Bypass since 2016 and I am now facing a stall. I decided to revisit my preop liquid diet and I am happy to say that I am doing my thing. It feels good to be disciplined. The pandemic led me to each due to boredom while working from home. But now that the gyms are open in NYC I have included my exercise now and am watching what I eat. Kudos to you with the inspiring words. Thank you! Remaining positive and keeping the faith alive is important. I hope to lose 50 lbs within the next few months. Be well and stay safe.
  4. you might. Like I said, we see so few posts on this type of revision that it's hard to see the big picture.
  5. Hello From my experiences when I underwent the Lapband procedure in 2009 and my revision WLS Gastric Bypass in 2016, I did not wait for the office to tell me anything. I got on the phone and asked if my insurance covers WLS. The other question you want to ask the insurance company are there any particular medical requirements in effort to be approved for WLS? You may want to ask also at the time of admission if approved do I have a copay at the time of admission? There are some insurance companies that require a copay ans some donot. I have never heard of a surgeon perform WLS and not receive an authorization for the service that is rendered. I hope my information is helpful and do not hesitate to ask anything. I am Post Op 11 years and still in the journey. This is a longterm journey of challenges. Missy Cee
  6. I had a revision from gastric bypass. Only my surgeon went the other way he gave me a sleeve and did a SIPS a kind of mini Duodenal switch. Unfortunately, it didn't help me lose any weight. It wasn't a total loss I no longer have diarrhea. But I was in tremendous pain. Good luck with your plan but remember its what you put in your mouth more than anything that determines weight loss. A lots of these people who are successful are on very low calorie diets and stick to them. I thought I could get the magic bullet again by have my intestines operated on again. but it didn't work for me. Right now I am trying optifast. and so it goes...

    Lactose can be your Enemy!

Amboyle, I am 3.5 weeks post op bypass and have been dumping daily since starting purées. I usually start the day with a premium protein shake or scrambled egg or cottage cheese. Deli turkey and low fat chili’s round out my day. My team have ruled out a bacterial infection so looking like lactose is the culprit. Can I ask what protein sources have worked for you? I am feeling pretty frustrated. Any tips appreciated!

    Revision surgery pre op diet

hi i dont have any experience with a revision but wanted to wish you luck!
  10. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had a revision to an original gastric bypass surgery. I’m going in and having my pouch made smaller. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and what my outcome might look like. Thanks
  11. With my first gastric bypass I didn’t have to do the liquid diet. I think it depends on the surgeon.

    Last Dr visit

I did years of research before even coming to the surgeon and was dead set on sleeve and thought nobody could sway me. But then I got all my doctors' opinions (yeah lots of comorbidities), and a few suggested RnY and had good reasons. I went a bit nuts on the internet looking at studies and thinking about how my weight likes to creep up silently because of menopause and decided that RnY would help more with that "creep" than the sleeve, I also like how I might "dump" to discourage me from overindulging when I lose my willpower. I also don't want to get sleeve and then get GERD and have to get a revision. I had the "pill stuck in my throat" feeling when I was taking an antibiotic a few months ago and I HATED IT SO MUCH. I want to do this once. Who knows what my insurance will be like in a few years. But... you do you! My good friend got sleeve 5 years ago and is so successful.

    October Surgery Roll Call

I am October 15th having a revision done to my gastric bypass surgery!
  14. I am having revision surgery in October. Going in to have my pouch made smaller and the hole made smaller. I’m super nervous because I’m hungry ALL THE TIME. I have no idea how I am going to make the pre op liquid diet for two weeks. Does anyone have any tips? Has anyone had success with a gastric bypass revision?
  15. There have been many comments for this poor lady I finally found a good explanation on line that you can looking into and verify. Premier Protein – Not Premier for Bariatric Patients! Oct 14, 2018 Abegail Fernandez The jury went to work on Premier Protein, and the verdict is in – almost literally. Premier Protein is in trouble for its misleading label claims on its protein shakes. Not only that, but the shakes may not be all they’re cracked up to be when it comes to helping you lose weight. Here is the story. Legal Trouble for Premier Protein Premier Protein sells all kinds of protein shakes. The ones whose labels state that they have 30 grams of protein per serving are the ones in the settlement. Analysis has found that they have 26 to 29 grams. The flavors that are in the settlement are Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberries & Cream, Banana & Cream, Peaches & Cream, Cookies & Cream, Mixed Berry, Organic Chocolate, Organic Vanilla, and Caramel. While the company is not admitting wrongdoing or ceasing the sale of these products, there is a class action settlement. You may be eligible for a cash payout if you purchased any of the misleading shakes in the past 7 years, since 2011. Pre-op or post-op, you need to know how much protein is in your shakes. Not Best for Bariatric Patients Every gram of protein counts, but the deception in amount of protein per serving is not the only problem. Even if you are willing to overlook the shortfall in the amount of protein, Premier Protein has a problem with type of protein. Read the ingredients carefully, and you will see that less than 1% of the product is “whey protein concentrate.” Whey protein is the type of protein that you should be looking for because it absorbs more quickly than casein. Whey protein has been shown to increase weight loss and body fat loss in bariatric surgery patients. Another glance at the list of ingredients of Premier Protein shows that “milk protein concentrate” and “casein” are the major sources of protein. Casein is slow-acting. If you had a bariatric surgery type, such as gastric bypass, that interferes with absorption, you may not get all the benefits from casein. What’s Better? We know that you need a protein supplement, so what can you find that has the amount and type of protein you need and the great taste that will encourage you to take care of your needs? BariatricPal Protein One gets our vote. 27 grams of whey protein. 28 vitamins and minerals. Great-tasting French Vanilla, Cinnamon Swirl, and Double Chocolate Fudge. It has a few more advantages over Premier Protein. Over twice as much dietary fiber for fullness and digestive health. Choose from convenient single-serving packets or multi-serving tubs. Comes in powder so you can add water or your favorite beverage. Has an “unflavored” option so you can add it to anything, from soup to smoothies. When it comes to bariatric products, quality counts. Any purchase you make should be from a trusted source because there are a lot of poor-quality or misleading products out there. The few grams of difference between Premier Protein’s claims and reality may not be a lot, but along with the poor choice of casein instead of whey as the main protein source, you might want to seek another source for your protein. Look for a trusted vendor and name brand as you make your choice. What you put in your body really does matter. Hopefully this helps. I could care less about the law suiti but found the other information to reflect my original post that hopefully was sound advice.
  16. actually, DS is restrictive. The DS is a sleeved stomach with a bypassed small intestine (or a lot of it is bypassed, anyway ). The sleeve at one time was just phase 1 of the DS - it wasn't a standalone surgery until recently - within the last 10 years or so.

Have I made the right choice ?

Your profile says you are getting Mini Gastric Bypass. Sleeve is different. Back in the day, MGB had issues. I don't know if it's still true, but be sure what you are having done to your body. I think all of us worried if we were choosing the right surgery and if that surgery would help us defeat our negative habits. It's up to you to think it through for your situation. Just about any restrictive surgery (RNY, sleeve) will help with comfort food because for many months you won't be able to eat much in a sitting. This can still be defeated if you graze (eat small amounts constantly, aka snacking). As such, initially you will need to focus on eating habits, like only eating at the table and allowing meals to last only 30 minutes. Good habits are what your building. Mal-absorption procedures (RNY, DS) mean that not everything you eat is absorbed as well as now. Basically, if you eat 500 calories you may only absorb 499-250. Even grazing hurts your program less but do it enough and it can. Their are other important differences in surgeries: Sleeve is only restrictive; RNY is restrictive, malabsorbtive, and about 50% of patients dump; DS is not restrictive, more malabsorbtive, and no dumping. I knew many people that went with DS because they did not want to change eating habits. I chose RNY because I did want to change. Think it through. Good luck. Tek
  18. Okay. But the original poster's bio on the left side says she had GASTRIC SLEEVE, not Loop Duodenal Switch or Gastric Bypass. I was going off of the profile info. Also this thread is under the SLEEVE forum.. If she has posted elsewhere she had gastric bypass & loop duodenal switch, then I missed it.
  19. The ill feeling you felt is it the dumping syndrome people have talked about? A friend of mine had a bypass 5 years ago and said when I'm cleared for solid food to watch out for dumping syndrome and she said it feels like you ate to much and its either coming up or you sleep. I have to have a timer to remind me to eat. Im not craving anything or hungry I start to feel a bit of cramp and drink water and it goes away. My incisions just started hurting after feeling nothing in the last two days. I felt like crap after getting home from work and taking off my pants and my lower incisions scab came off with my pants. They are not warm to touch but have a red ring and are hard around them. No fever so I haven't visited the er. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this it will be one month post surgery on the 24th. Moominman... take everything in strides. Learn from the bad feeling. We all have faith in you and you can do this!

    “Silent” GERD!!!

I feel for you. I had terrible gerd and it caused ulcers in my esophagus. but when I had my hernia operated on it went away. Now I have the occasional gerd due to a change from gastric bypass to DS Sips, the switch from pouch to sleeve. Probably you had it going the other way. I take a daily Nexium. Which works well for me. I hope you get better soon.

    10 months out bathroom problems?

You could have the other problem. I had diarrhea running down my leg when I was several years out. Probably too much something in my diet. but I had a revision and BOOM! I now get constipated instead. LOL You just did something major to your gastrointestinal system. I think everyone has some kind of issue. I hope you find something to help you. Maybe a little more fat in your diet as well as extra fiber and water. I am not saying a lot. Just a smidge.
  22. Malabsorbative surgeries such as Gastric Bypass and Duodenal Switch/Loop Duodenal Switch CANNOT intermittent fast! My surgeon said intermittent fasting with a malabsorbative surgery increased the risk of malnutrition so unless someone wants to risk hospital time and put their very LIFE at risk to lose a little extra weight do NOT do that!
  23. Had bypass on August 10. Between then and Sept 08 I lost 14.6 kg (32 pounds) - but since then nothing. It's now been 10 days since I lost any weight and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Wondering if I should cut back on portion sizes (I have a small breakfast but lunch and dinner are around 150-200g each).

    Dumping

I had the sleeve but I had it revised to the gastric bypass. I have gone 10 days once without having a bm. I don't have cramps I feel nothing like I don't have to go.

    10 months out bathroom problems?

chronic constipation is a very common problem for both sleeve and bypass patients. So yes - it could be lifelong. I'm five years out and take a capful of Miralax every morning.
