They probably gained 3 lbs of Water weight after surgery. You're on an IV and that puts water weight on some or probably even most. Don't freak out about this surgery. Be realistic about your expectations an keep remembering it's a tool not a miracle and don't expect it to be easy.. You got a lot of work ahead, this is just the beginning. My daugher had Dr. Garcia on Jan 23rd. We loved him and his staff in TJ. She's down from an 18 to a size 8-10. She like me struggles with the food addiction. We were just saying, "well you can't eat a whole gallon of ice cream at one time, but you can eat a gallon in a day!" Some days it's just hard.

COngratulations on your great weight loss!, and I'm happy to hear you are doing well. Yes, I'm sore but feeling better every day. I'm getting frustrated b/c the scale has not gone anywhere since the day before surgery! (I did lose 12 pounds before surgery.)

I'm 26 months out and lost 100 in the first 15 months. 11-30-11. Still doing fairly well and still wearing a size 12. COMPLACENT .........it is so easy to slip back to old habits. I had shoulder surgery in Nov. 13, and laid around the house recovering. Holidays and feeling crappy, I found I was eating sugar.....also found that I had left the 20 minute rule somewhere in the past. I thought I needed a fill; last fill 5-12. When I took the time to process; go back to basic, and work the plan, I know now I don't need a fill. I need to go back to measuring the 1/2 cup....stop eating at 20 minutes, and leave the Cookies alone. I gained 6 pounds over the holidays, and now see how easily I could fall flat on my face. I have lost 2 pounds and I'm determined to do the right thing. Overall it has been a great experience. We are retiring soon and headed to the coast. May even buy a swim suit.,,??? Linda

Saw 3 articles in the news today about bariatric surgery and pregnancy
college_chick posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all I saw 3 articles today about studies done on women who have undergone weight loss surgery and then got pregnant. Basically all of the articles say that the studies show that women should wait 12-18 months before conceiving. My doctor said in his info seminar that he reccommends 2 years. I never would have thought to ask when I went to the seminar. Partially because I'm too focused on getting out of school already! (It's taking sooo long, but it's my fauly for that sooo... ) Anyways I thought I would post here about it, Not sure if I can post links or not? But I have them if anyone is interested. Any thoughts? Have a good one all! -

FROM SIZE 14/16 to 4/6 10 mo. Post Op
Tracy4 replied to ThickGirl5683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats!!! I have to ask, how did you keep going?? I started at 266 end of May, I am at 186...and the scale has not budged in two months. Last week, I went back to protein shakes and bars and light dinner and still scale has not moved. I am working out 5-6 days a week. I thought maybe muscle gain, because I am at a size 14 and last time I weighed this I was at a size 16. But the doctor seems it should be a piece of cake ( no pun) to loose another 30 pounds. I am soo struggling right now and any advice would be amazing! Keep up the great work! -
Not to worry.....this was only one day and remember you did not gain the weight that got you to your highest point in one day. Forget about it and do not dwell but get yourself back on track and begin again. You are in control and we all need to splurge a little every now and then. Just do not make it a habit. Best of luck and Ill bet you will still lose on the scale in the next week.

From what I understand, if you have been under a 6 month supervised weight loss plan within the last 2 years (and can prove it) that can be used instead of the 6 months of visits. If you're doing the 6 months of visits now, be sure you don't skip a month of weighing in. Find out what your beginning weigh in is and be sure you do not surpass that weight. Best of luck!! -
Help! I'm feeling out of control--
juli916 replied to Trip2thin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Trip2thin- I am right there with you. I lost 143 then fell into bad habits and gained 24. After gaining, I swear I felt like 300 pounds all over again. It's sickening and frustrating. I am trying getting back on track. Taking a mindful eating class next week, signed up for a dance class and already down 7 pounds. We are food addicts plain and simple. It will always be a battle. Good luck to you! -
Help! I'm feeling out of control--
delta_girl replied to Trip2thin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm only 6 months out and my losing has ground to a halt, with the exception of a very few lbs a month at this point. I was excercising a lot in the beginning but quit when it was cold and dark outside by the time I got off of work. I'm hoping that the spring weather will provide some incentive. I posted a similar thread last week about my fears regarding the end of weight loss and later regain -
I started going to the doctor monthly for a medication & when I decided on WLS, I figured I could use those months as part of my pre op 6 month requirement since he always spoke to me about my weight. I never was actually weighed during these visits, and I would just tell a weight to the MA who brought me in. I never paid attention in the beginning because I wasn't doing this for surgery at the time. So I had 4 months done before I met with my surgeon. The NP told me I cannot gain weight from then on, which is fine. I can't remember the weights I told the doctor though. Could I be denied for gaining weight during the 6 month pre op diet, if it was before I met with the surgeon? I'm dieting now and will be down weight by the next visit but I'm unsure what my last 4 months look like

I agree with Bufflehead. I'm 6 years out and I basically eat portions that are considered normal. (Not normal by typical US standards, but normal by nutritional standards). My portions are slightly smaller than my "normal size" friends, due to my restriction, but what I lack in volume I make up in frequency, so at the end of the day I probably take in the same amount. More dramatic than my portion sizes has been the types of food I eat. WAY less non-nutritive carb heavy "wasted calories", and WAY more healthy foods that contain the nutrients my body needs, not the junk my head may want. Yes, I do sometimes indulge in what I consider my "emotional foods", but never to an extent that compromises my health or weight maintenance. You will likely experience a period of severe restriction immediately postop. The portions you eat will be scary small and your parents may freak out. But you will progress past this to a point of being able to eat more than enough to nourish your body. (If you make healthy choices)

If you want to try something less expensive there is an audiobook website for your iPod or Mp3 called www.audible.com You can buy a book on weight loss hypnosis for about $20 and I use it. I don't guess it works but I listen before I go to sleep and it's relaxing. It helps me calm my mind so I can get to sleep faster. I wish it worked on the weight loss but I don't guess it does.

I was supposed to get 4 sessions for $75 a pc, I only attended 2 because i did not see any weight loss so I was not going to spend another $150. I felt I had gave $150 away.

Was just on the 'Livestrong' site and saw an add for this plate. I would think it is probably easier to use than the other 'portion' plates I've seen. Have no connection with this company, just thought some folks may find it of value. EZ Weight Plate, Portion Control plate, weight loss, food measurement, diabetic plate

Quick FAQs - What Is The Honeymoon Period
joatsaint posted a blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Frequently Asked Questions - Weight Loss Surgery - What is the honeymoon period? For about 6 to 10 months post-weight loss surgery is the time when it is the easiest to lose weight. Outside of the dreaded stalls, weight generally tends to fall off magically. But eventually the body becomes adjusted to the lower caloric intake and adjusts it's metabolism down. So it's vitally important to take advantage of this "honeymoon period" to stick to your doctor's dietary guidelines and lose as much weight as possible. After the "honeymoon period" it is still possible to lose weight, but it will require more vigilance on caloric intake and diet, being careful not to fall into old habits, and increasing exercise levels to maintain your metabolism. I agree. I think we take fat shaming too far. Someone giving guidance, especially someone paid to do so, is not try to make a person feel ashamed. Having said that, the manner in which that information is shared can be done with respect. I was never part of that movement or culture. I don't believe it is possible to be obese and healthy for an extended period of time. It will catch up with you eventually. That said, I don't believe in treating people badly, shaming them, stereotyping them, or discriminating against them based on body size or composition. I think that is terrible behavior. I also don't think that a health care professional telling an obese person that they need to lose weight is "shaming" -- but everyone else needs to STFU.

Ideas For Full Liquid Stage? Anyone Have Any Recipes Or Suggestions?
AllForMy4 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hi all! So,I went to my 1 week post op appt today and I have lost 8 lbs in 7 days! Yippee!! I have been on the clear liquid diet for a whole week and now have graduated to the full liquid diet and can have protein shakes as well as my vitamins.. I am wondering if anyone has any recipes or suggestions for the full liquid phase? I'm kinda clueless...I know I am gonna try some tuna, boiled egg and a lil lite mayo in the blender tomorrow but that's really all I can think of. I tried a protein shake for the first time today and i got about 5 ozs down over the course of an hour and a half but I couldn't finish the last 3 ounces,it was toooo sweet for my new sleeve. I am so happy I made this decision. I finally gave myself something and it feels great to know I will lose my weight and KEEP it off!!! =)) -
Hemoroids post op anyone?
mom2lucky (suznc) replied to michelecaples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG yes. The last week has been awful. Started taking softener every day & that helps but not sure why they're a problem all of a sudden. I would have thought less weight or not going daily would help but apparently has no effect. -

Hi!! No they haven't given me a date yet. They said I had to get all the labs and xrays and EGD done then I will see the surgeon and he will set date. His nurse said he will make me lose weight prior to surgery 15-30 lbs....for safety purposes. I have been exercsing and eating healthy for 3 weeks like crazy.......I hope I can lose the required weight. Why do you have to wait till 9/7/11 to submit your insurance the info? -
What a pain to get a fill ??? I went to my DR before I had my surgery and discussed what I was having done and asked him for his opinion. Then asked about doing my fills. He was very wiling to help me out and has been very supportive over the last 3 months, although I have not lost any weight. I am getting very frustrated.... he is there for me through it all. He doesn't charge me anything. I guess I got lucky with a good DR. Hope some of you bandsters find a great supportive Dr's to help you out.

Gotten Band, Lost Weight, But No Fills...Should I Be Worried?
hpegg replied to intlpopstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on so much weight loss. With all changes with your job situation, I really want to commend you for doing so well. I personally think that the lapband is a just tool for you to lose weight and maintain the weight lost and it sounds like you doing great and I personally would not change anything. You will know if you stop losing weight that you need a fill. In the meantime, keep doing what you are doing! Helen -

From the album: Month by Month
Weight 164 Lbs. -
Maybe, the plateau is your body maintaining the calories you give it. Uping the calorie burn might get you to your goal and possible more food if healthy choices. Im uncertain because i am just beginning this journey but thats my 2 cents. Great job on the weight lost so far.dont give up
