Help! I'm soooo very afraid of blood clots.

You just have to get up and walk around.. The house even! A good rule of thumb is to make sure in your waking hours that you are up and moving about for 10 to 15 minutes per hour. -
I used my kid's sippy cup for the first 10 days. Worked great. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Not losing, confused and frustrated
mom2wils posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm about a month and a half post band to sleeve revision (5/10 surgery) and I'm feeling very frustrated and confused about my lack of weight loss. I started at 236 and shortly after surgery (2 weeks postop) was down to 220. I'm now down to 214. I haven't moved for about a month. I was logging my food whole hog at the beginning but fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks but in the past week have gotten back at it in order to get a handle on things. At my last follow up appt my surgeon asked how much Protein I was taking in (when he found out I stalled) and I told him I was aiming for around 60 grams. He told me to only aim for 40. That seems counterintuitive to me especially being pre-diabetic with PCOS. His office doesn't have a NUT so I only have him to rely on. At this point I'm beyond frustrated. He wants me down another 20 lbs by the time I go back to see him in a month. Everyone else on here seems to have the weight melt off and I'm sitting here much like I was before with the band - feeling very frustrated and wondering why I did this. I'm committed to tracking my intake, getting more exercise, and getting my protein in but beyond that I'm at a loss. Any suggestions - especially from those who have done a band to sleeve conversion?? Thanks for "listening"..... -
Dizziness and sweating after food!
LittleLizzieLilliput replied to sanaa.a's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that VGS don't get dumping syndrome but I had a bit too much of a sugary thing and I was miserable for an hour. Nauseas, feel like I can't move, something feels really wrong, I have to lie down. Then it goes away. It's happened 3 times since my 10/10/16 surgery. -
Do you feel you did the right thing

I am feeling the same way. I didn't realize just how bad my addiction to food was. I am struggling to get in my protein and water. I dont feel hungry at all but I miss regular food. Im on week 2 full liquids. These liquid are starting fo repulse me. I know I will have to change my relationship with food but I miss eating. [emoji17] HW 240 SW 217 (1/10/18) CW 209 -
...is hard! I'm up to 10 minutes at 5.5mph now, followed by 10 minutes at a walking pace (3.5mph/4.0mph) to cool down. I'm hoping to get up to eventually 30 minutes at 5.5-6.0mph, but I can tell -- it's going to take a while. That being said, 10 minutes at 5.5mph gets me dripping sweat, so it must be pretty good exercise for this middle-aged guy. My heart rate gets up to around 155, which is right between the "I can still talk" range and "I can... *pant*... still talk... *pant*". I'm just hoping to build cardiovascular strength and endurance, and burn yet more calories. <20% body fat, here I come! Edit: one thing I'm thankful for: now that I weigh 220 instead of 330-ish, I can actually RUN without, you know, blowing out my knees or crippling myself for a week!

Hey Kim....sounds like you are doing great on your liquid diet. I don't have to do the liquid, but still have to lose 10 lbs. So far, so good on the cabbage soup diet. I am on day four as well and haven't cheated. I am down my 10 pounds.....Yay, but am still staying on my strict diet to try to lose a few more. I hope the more I lose pre-op the easier my surgery and recovery should be. I cannot believe in only 11 days we will be on our way to the loser's bench!!! I am so excited! So glad you are doing so well on the liquid diet, and I know you will do great!

Surving 2 Weeks Liquid Post Ope Diet!
Meli01 replied to bella143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take prescription prilosec and it really seems to help. I'm only 10 days out, but I haven't been hungry since surgery. I'm hoping to see some weight loss soon too. I lost 4 pounds the day after surgery and the scale hasn't moved since. -
Sounds like you may need to call your surgeon especially with the low grade fever just in case you're getting an infection. I think the one normal common thing is feeling tired and ran down at your stage. I did a lot of sleeping the first 6 weeks. Between healing from surgery to the restriction of calories,it doesn't give you a lot of energy. I'm 10 weeks and started to feel a lot more energy about 8 weeks out. If I do a lot one day the next day I'm usually wiped out. My doctor said that's normal till around 6 months out. I hope you feel better and they can get to the bottom of why you don't feel good

New To this....
susan hoffman replied to Fullprice309's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, Had the lap-band on 8/18/10. Tomorrow will be my 1st soft food meal plus the 2 shakes. I thought the reason you needed to do weeks 1-2 on shakes was so you build scar tissue around the band to help secure the band to your stomach. Anyway, I start 1 meal and 2 shakes tomorrow for 2 weeks. It's really a life lesson on eating. I started at 297 pre-surgery now at 272.5 (2 weeks post op). -
I certainly hope it is possible because it is my plan!! I was sleeved 10/21 and I have lost 30lbs. Prior to surgery I had lost 32lbs, so in total I have lost 62lbs.( Since August) I absolutely struggled during the holidays, I will be the first to admit it. I don't want to be bashed or pitied, because I own what I did. I am recommitting my efforts to try to get things where I need/ want them to be. Granted the first months are supposed to be the easiest for weight loss, and now those are gone. But the honeymoon isn't over and I still plan to work the sleeve the most I can. I have my plan for fitness in place, I have downloaded the Fitbit app (and will buy the Fitbit asap) and I have the will. The third thing is probably the biggest key for success. Even at the weight I am, I am thinner than I have been in over ten years. I am very excited to see how much further I can take this. I haven't forgotten why I had surgery, I just needed to hit the reset button. So good luck to us all for keeping on keeping on!!!!!!

What To Expect The First Few Days After Surgery?

I had surgery 10/17 My process went super fast! -
I just wanted to post my experience so far...I attened a seminar on Wednesday night for Dr. Abkin and Dr. Bertha and let me tell you I was impressed. First off it was held at a local hotel meeting room so there was space for about 100 or so attendees. Now most of the seminar was a repeat for me as I have in the past year been to 2 other info seminars and I have been researching lap band for over a year but none the less I was impressed. Marco the OR nurse the first spoke was very informative and answered all questions. They also had 2 guest speakers that have already had surgery and while I was disappointed that neither had the lap band they were also very informative for those people looking to do gastric bypass. The next person to speak was Josephine who is the insurance whiz. She answered a bunch of questions and gave lots of info regarding which insurances require what and all that good info. And then finally the doctors came up to speak. Dr. Abkin, Dr. Bertha as well as Dr. Garrison are very informative and open to all question and after the "formal" part of the seminar was over they stayed an answered individual questions if you had any. And THEN when you walked out of the main room there were tables set up so you can go ahead and make your consult appointment with one of the surgeons and also make appointments for a nutisionist and a psychiatrist (sp?). You also walk out with the paper work to get your lab work done and a form for your PCP to fill out. They basically have everything right there for you and I couldn't ask for anything more!!!! Everyone involved was more then helpful and willing to answer any question that you may have!! The previous 2 seminars I attended was held in the doctor's waiting room and you were basically sitting on the person next to you as the doctor just stood in front speaking about all the general info. They would tell you what was required as for as other test but I feel you were left to your own to sort it all out. Now I know we are all adults and should be able to handle making out own appointments but with something like this some people dont know where to start. Even though the previous 2 seminars were smaller groups I didnt feel a connection with the doctors I felt more as if I was just another #. That is the main reason why I was looking for another doctor and I am glad I came across Dr. Bertha and Dr. Abkin with a little help for the LBT group - THANKS!!! I have my consult on 10/17 with Dr. Bertha and I can't wait!!!!! I just wanted to share my experience with everyone and maybe help fellow NJ folks with finding a doctor!! :clap2:

A Little Down :(
Strangefruit replied to crisanthemum85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how tall you are - or your BMI - but my understanding is that people with less to lose, lose slower? Have you talked to your doctor about this? I had my surgery on 10/22 and have lost about 29lbs, BUT I have/had 100lbs to lose... -
Is it a muscular pain or a piercing stabbing one, like a nerve pain? A lot of people found odd aches and pains when they started to lose weight. But generally, you shouldn't be feeling pain 10 days out. i would suggest you call your doctor and see what they think. Why take a chance, right?

HELP, STALLED? CONFUSED!
1959JimmyJames replied to mike4235506's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love tomato soup. I would make one small can with milk instead of Water almost daily. I would heat it up and pour it in a large coffee mug and sip it like coffee. I think that you are worrying too much about weight loss right now. I am not even exercising and I am averaging 10 lbs per month. I am retired so I can afford to do nothing all day long now, and a back problem prevents me from doing really good aerobics, so my weight loss is going to be slower than most, but I am happy with it so far. When you get to start eating real food again in a few more weeks, you will feel more satisfied and less hungry, I think. The sleeve will start working. Stick with the post-surgery meal plan. Relax and try to feel happy. -
I'm so glad to have found this forum! I was banded 5/19/2007. I am going in for my fourth fill tomorrow. (First two fills essentially resulted in no saline in the band. With an initial fill of 2.0cc and a second fill of 4.0cc in a 9.75 Inamed band, I wound up with 0.6cc. My surgeon did a fluro, fill to 2.6cc and checked the following day. No leakage noted. I still feel restriction 7-8 weeks later.) I'm a bit discouraged since I've lost approximately 37 lbs total including the pre-op diet that I followed for 4 weeks prior to surgery. Most of the weight loss was during the pre-op and liquid phases following surgery. Mostly I'm working to maintain the loss and fluctuate around a 4-6 lb range. I have been tracking calories and trying to keep to around 1200 per day with 25% Protein, 25% fat (max), and 50% carbs. I haven't been exercising at all. (Beginning BMI was 52.) I've noticed that even though I am noticing restriction early in the day or at the beginning of a meal, once I am able to get things down I can eat quite a lot. I'm not sure what 'packing the pouch' is, but is that what I'm doing when I eat a sizable amount? It is weird because sometimes I am PBing, though that usually only happens now when I'm not paying attention to how much or how fast I'm eating and don't chew thoroughly. If I do PB, I stop eating and then drink warm liquids a few hours afterwards to sooth my stoma. From reading other posts, it looks like I need to (1) keep on top of fills to achieve good restriction, (2) track my food intake until I hit the 'sweet spot' and feel full, and (3) begin exercising. Does anyone out there have anything else they can suggest or recommend?

How far out from surgery could you still be having gas pains. I had surgery on 6/10/09 and for some reason today, I have had what I believe to be gas pains in my left shoulder blade and right at the incision where the port is. It is a dull, throbbing pain instead of a sharp pain. More annoying than anything else. I have emailed my surgeon the same question, but was curious as to what others thought. Night before last I had a little smushed refried, fat free Beans for dinner. I am at the mushy stage now. Thoughts?

I hought I would try gerbers graduate meat stick, i used to eat them only 110 calories and 10 g of protein. A jar has 2 1/2 oz. i ate about 5 of the 6 sticks and it was TOO much. I had not felt restriction until now. Not pleasant. Will eat MUCH slower next time

I'm just so upset with myself right now. My surgery date was September 24 and it has already been 7 weeks and I'm not at all where I thought I'd be. I started out weighing 203 and am down to 176. That's only 27 lbs!! A few other people I've been following are at a little over 40 lbs by 9-10 weeks. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please give me some advice?!

Surgeon Choice: Aceves or Rodriguez?
SlimMissy replied to Keys Pirate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Stcyt, a. walker... I am scheduled to be sleeved by Dr Rod July 1st and I've been walking on air ever since I got confirmed. Even though I had done a little research on my own, plus a thorough inquiry session through my Pt facilitator (Joyce/Belite),coming here had always been a delight. Real people, real experiences! :scared0: Now I know I have to have at least 80-100 bucks in fives, tens and singles for either tips or purchases. I was thinking of bringing my laptop with me so I can stay connected with the rest of the world but my service provider promised to charge me EXTRA for any browsing or calls outside the borders, so maybe I'll just buy a calling card and leave my laptop at hm. Okay, quick question Stcyt, I am kinda worried about loose skin and flab. How have you been coping with that (if u have any). I had a C-section done in 2008 and as I loose the baby weight, I have started experiencing a lot of jiggles around my tummy area (not pretty at all)...any advice? Hugh! if I can just squeeze myself into a 10, I'm good. -

Any teachers out there?
sustainable health replied to RebeccaJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. Im a teacher and my name is Rebecca! I have a question for you. Do you notice that before class you arent hungry but after teaching you are really hungry? This has been my experience. I was banded 9/19/09 and its only been 6 weeks for me but I still cant maintain satiety during the week when Im teaching. I dont know if its all that talking or the energy it takes to handle a classroom of 15 elementary students or what. Any ideas?
