Clothes shopping before surgery
higher replied to Typhanie85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a lot of old clothes I can use as I work my way down in sizes. The items I got are my ultimate goal clothes. I didn't buy a lot. Mostly tops and dresses (that I can easily alter if needed), I've fluctuated so much in weight in my 31 years that I have clothes ranging from size 20 down to 10. Ha, yeah I am the same way. I have size 4-18 in my closet. I went through and donated anything I didn't think I would like and set aside a few beautiful pieces as goal clothes. I'm already down to a 12-14. But all the cute clothes are size 8 and down. A lot of the best brands don't make clothes bigger than that. Chanel does and some of the Italian brands do. I am going to buy myself the most gorgeous exquisite pieces when I am at goal.....I am mostly thinking about coats. I want a leather trench coat so badly. -

I was also banded Dec. 27th (was a popular day!). My surgeon will not bill me for fills for 6 months at least he said (I was his first banding and he is still 'feeling' out the logistics for his practice). I had my first fill on 1/25 and my second last week, on 2/10. I agree with the above poster that I would be asking questions, at least demand a face-to-face appointment to discuss this issue. It is one thing if he does't want to do it because you are losing well, not healing or something. But to just not see you to make that determination is unacceptable. I wish you good luck! I want to see all of the Dec. 27th group do well!

I'm 14 months out, and I'm also stuck. I have been for two months, and I track every bite - religiously. I am over some days at around 1800, but most days I'm around 1100. I would be happy losing 2-3 pounds a month at this point. I really think I only have about 10 pounds to lose, and I think the rest would come of with plastic surgery - about 15 pounds. No advice for you, only commiserating. My plan is to just keep doing what I'm doing, and not stress about it any more. Except for one thing, I've not been exercising, so I'm going to start that again and hope it makes a difference. If not, I'm way better off than I was. Sometimes our bodies defy what we think we know to be true.

So many questions about surgery!
AmberFL replied to Skinkneequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 35 HW: 325 SW: 297 CW 189 Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date: 1/24 1. What was the best part of surgery for you? Having a ton of energy! Not feeling groggy, my knees don't hurt when I wake up, working out and staying motivated, playing with my kids after a long day and still having the energy to cook dinner and pick up the house and sex life has improved, 2. What was the worst part of surgery for you? The first week kinda sucked with how much gas pains and not being able to eat barely anything and I am dealing some hair loss right now. Other than that I had a really smooth surgery. 3. Did you have any complications (minor or major) during or after your surgery? I was lucky, mine has been smooth sailing 4. How has adjusting to your new life been for you? Its different, I get more attention which is tough for me to get used to, I love exercising, I love shopping, I love getting ready everyday for work. I am the best version of myself, my boyfriend and kids deserve it and overall I deserve it! 5. How long did it take you to feel comfortable eating food? I would say there are still things I don't want to eat but probably around 90day mark I felt good to eat just about anything within reason. 6. Is there anything you can’t eat anymore that you used to enjoy? Honestly I don't have the same desire to eat what I did. I will enjoy a couple of fries if I have an open faced burger or something but its not something that was a must like it was before. 7. What was your recovery like? Any vomiting or dumping syndrome? Recovery was great besides the gas pains. No vomiting or dumping syndrome. 8. How long did it take you to feel semi-normal after surgery? I would say 2 weeks. I was walking 1-2miles after the first week. The first week I walked around the block to get the gas out. I also have a high pain tolerance so that might have helped. Like I had two c-sections and once the epidural wore off I was up walking my babies up and down the hall, the nurses had to tell me to rest but I am Type A so I am a little nutty. 9. Did you experience higher energy level post surgery? HELL YES!!! I wake up start life, workout for an hour plus walk on my lunch break 5 days a week, I work full time and am a college student. I have 3 children and my partner. I have energy for everything and I am not dog tired at the end of the day. 10. Did surgery affect your mental health? Yes, I struggle sometimes with the new body, how ppl treat me, and still see the 325lb woman in the mirror but I moreso I am in a better spot. I am not as anxious, stressed and I am able to take on tasks with a clearer mind (such as school) 11. Do you regret it? Would you recommend it? My only regret is not getting it done sooner! -
I received my approval letter from the insurance co today!!! I am so excited... 19 days until I am a bandster!!!
-
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!! It all seems so real once your finally get that letter! WOW...only 19 days left?!?! It seems like you just got started...time is really flying!!!

I too am very nervous about having this surgery done. On some days I'm convinced that because I have a thyroid problem, not even this will work. But then I go through my mental list of all the things I look forward to after the surgery and it helps!! I look forward to: 1. getting in a canoe or kayak with my husband to go fishing 2. fitting in a movie theater seat without the armrest up 3. getting the seat belt on an airplane to fit and buckle safely 4. reaching to clean myself appropriately 5. walking upstairs to our guestroom without being completely winded 6. not having to lean over to drink out of a glass with a stem because my boobs are in the way 7. not covering my double chin with my hand when my picture is taken 8. dance the night away like I used to 9. not snoring worse than my husband 10. not being paranoid about what people are thinking if I catch them staring 11. my bras lasting longer instead of the wires popping out because of the added weight 12. buying pretty underwear instead of basic white or black 13. wearing short sleeved shirts again 14. not bruising my arms walking through a narrow doorway to quickly 15. not having the steering wheel touch my stomach 16. being "on top" for a change 17. enjoying walking the mall again and going shopping 18. painting my own toenails 19. getting down on the floor to play with my dog 20. Crossing my legs. 21. Wearing my hair how I want. When I think of all these things, my fear just disappears. I plan to have surgery in September and look forward to a new life. What do you look forward to?

1st fill, need to tell my doctor something
journey2befit posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone! How are you all doing? I hope all is well. I had my lap band put in February 10 and I haven't had any side effects... no vomiting, nausea. Just minimal pain in my shoulders if I eat a little fast and some pinching in my stomach here and there (i have am incisional hernia). I go in for my first fill tomorrow and I'm kind of scared. I ate solid foods a little sooner than what I was supposed to and I hope I haven't caused any damage that can potentially harm me in the future or cause a delay in getting a fill. I did not experience any difficulty when I did eat solid foods, but only the minor pain in my shoulders. I'm a little paranoid and wondering "what if" I did cause something to happen with the band. Also, I'm worried to tell my doctor and hope he won't be disappoint like I am with myself but what do you guys think I should do? Can he test me to see if everything is ok? Any advice would be great. Thank you -
I went in this past Thursday and found out mine has flipped as well. It was my first fill as well. I had surgery on 4/10. I have to wait, because of scheduling, until 6/6 to fix mine. My Dr. is going to do my fill then as well. Your port must be in your abdomin if they scheduled and x-ray for your fill. Mine is in my shoulder, which is even harder to flip. It sucks! I know exactly how you are feeling. I hope your surgery goes well.

I wouldn't worry that much about the cpap machine... My husband has one, and it took him a long time to get used to the mask... some nights he only lasted an hour with it... Lately he's been sick, so isn't using it at all... And he's probably a 12 on a scale of 1-10 (very severe)! Sometimes it's all too much to deal with at one time. Relax, try to settle yourself down before worrying about the apparatus... you've lived this long without it... several more nights won't make a difference... and if all goes well - YOU WON'T NEED IT AT ALL once you start losing weight.... (that happened to my DH, then he gained it all back). Hope this calms you down a bit... HUGS!!!

Lets try this again...Those who were BANDED the week of December 17th...
tmarie07 replied to ~Trixie~'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok, had to report in that I had my first "PB" today. So not fun. I havent been eating junk food at all, but this morning, right after I made my Protein shake, I did something silly and grabbed 2 of my husbands fries from Chick Fil A, and ate them fairly slowly, but bam, right after the 2nd one, I had a horrible feeling in my esophagus. 3 minutes of my mouth watering like crazy, a small amount of burping, then finally a real burp, back came the fries. I had to stop in the middle of the awful pain and mouth watering to realize that I could breathe just fine, so no, I wasnt going to die! I tell you what though, that first time it happens, it's a strange extremely uncomfortable feeling. So here's to hoping we have as few of these as possible as we continue our journey! It will certainly remind you to think about everything you put in your mouth! I had my fill on Thursday, and so today was my 2nd day of being back solid foods, but yesterday I had minimal solid foods, and it was later in the day. This happened early in the day, so while I havent really felt any real restriction from the 3 cc's I had in my 10 cc band, it does seem to be more restricted in the morning. Which is what I've heard a lot of people say can happen. Can't wait to hear everyone else's experiences as we all begin to get our first and second fill's! Tina -
When Did You First Start Seeing Results?
catwoman7 replied to kc892020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's due to all the IV fluids. I've heard of people gaining up to 10 lbs from them. They should be mostly (if not all) gone by the end of the first week, so your weight will start heading down. -
I was banded 10/31/13 and was very sucessful at first!i to date have lost a little over 30 lbs. i am eating much less but not in the green zone. I am working out 5 days a week with at least 1-2 miles of cardio and some weights. I am beyond frustrated.i have not lost weight since the begining of january! Please help any advise

You have keys and are not divorced yet, so it's still your legal home unless there is a restraining order out against you. I like the idea of taking someone with you who can video what happens while you are there. Take someone who would not be intimidated by him in case he suddenly shows up or is actually there. If he denies you entrance to your own home, go get a sheriff's deputy. Good for you for getting out. No shame in your game - just do what you have to do. And yeah, it's just stuff if you have to walk away with nothing. I have started over twice. Both times (after 23 years and after 10 years) I walked away with my life, dignity, and peace of mind. You would be surprised at how little you need to get by.....kinda like camping with a roof and walls.

Updates By Nov. 2012 Sleevers
Nicolanz replied to Yasmine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 3rd and have been doing great! I've lost 21 pounds. I did 4 days of clear liquids, 10 of full liquids, and now doing pureed with no problems. -
At my heaviest I was wearing a 20/22 just prior to surgery in Oct 2010. For several years I have kept a few tubs of my nicest, most expensive and mostly classic styled clothes in smaller sizes so I could wear them again when I lost weight (many were actually still new). While cleaning out our garage last weekend and unpacking the last of the boxes from our move two years ago, I ran across those tubs. I was so excited to go through all these awesome garments until I realized that each and every item was too big for me. Because I don't see myself as a small person, I never would have imagined not fitting into my "small" clothes (10-14). So the moral of the story is.....if you have boxes of small clothes, pull them out early and try them on often. You'll be surprised at how your body changes so quickly! Lisa

My surgery is in 5 days and I have been REALLY freaking out! About a week ago I had someone from this site contact me that has the same surgery date and same surgeon that I do! Come to find out that my surgery is at 9am and hers is at 10:30! I found such great comfort in this. I was able to speak with her on the phone tonight and come to find out when I went for my last appt with my surgeon last Tuesday I was standing right behind her and didnt even know it! On that same visit I met another lady that is getting sleeved by my surgeon right before me! What are the odds that I would meet the two women that are having their surgery right before and after me. I realized that I was so freaked out because I felt really alone (even though my family is super supportive) No one understands our struggles like our fellow sleevers! I feel so blessed and comforted to have been able to meet both of these women. I now feel so much more at peace and am more excited than ever. I never realized that at the end of this journey I would be making new friends. Thank you ladies!

I'm ranting about my hair loss this morning. I was hoping to be one of the lucky ones it would not happen to, but no such luck. I had my sleeve surgery on 10/15/15. For the past 2 weeks I have been losing a lot of hair. The good news is I am no longer obese, just in the overweight range. I will deal with the hair loss, it will grow back. I never want the weight back.

I've tried Bariatric Advantage, BSN, Un Jury and Syntrax nectar. The Syntrax IMO is the BEST! If you call them and ask for a sampler they will send you a single serving of all their flavors for $9.99 with shipping. It's a total of 10 or 11 flavors. The number is 1-866-333-7403

congrats!!! That is so awesome & exciting. My goal is to lose 60 pounds within 6 months. Around 10 a month! Did you exercise a lot also? Or mainly just changed your eating habits? I'll be banded August 18th, almost 3 weeks. I am so so so excited. I think about "what if i gain it all back after I lose it" too! But, I feel good about it, and I think I'll feel REALLY good about it once I actually do lose my weight! But, we're going to have the band forever, not just for 6 months ya know? If I start gaining any weight back, or eating poorly, etc. then I'm going to make an appointment to go see the surgeon & dietician! I think you should do the same! And, just like dionna113 said, if you stay at the "sweet spot" you should be full all of the time, etc! well congrats! that is just awesome! i can't wait to be there!!!
