revision I had my Sleeve/RNY revision 2 days ago...
BestInClass posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I did the deed two days ago. Had it done in Mexico and still recovering in the hospital. I’m so ready to go home I can’t stand it. However, so glad I did this. I went from band to sleeve to bypass in an 11 year stretch. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot about my body. My goals going forward are to take my food addictions a lot more seriously, and love myself enough to continue my level up phase in life. I’ve gained the Covid 19 (pounds) like everybody else, now it’s time to lose those as well as the other 70-80 lbs I need to shed. 😏 I’m looking forward to this new journey. I know a revision doesn’t take off as much weight as a virgin surgery. Luckily I don’t have a lot to lose. -
sugar in slim fast shakes / dumping syndrome
The Greater Fool replied to dal101's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My name is Tek and I dump. Even *IF* you dump, I doubt you will be able to drink enough protein initially to cause it. So watch carefully as your volume increases because it can sneak up on you. Dumping syndrome (technically a complication) affects 20-50% of RNY patients. It is not a one size fits all statistic. It varies by surgeon and how much intestine is bypassed. More bypassed = more likely to dump. It also varies by patient because not all of us start with the same or even terribly similar intestine lengths or capacity or other genetic things that can impact... well... just about everything. Sugar alcohols affect non-ops just a bit less severely than post-ops. It's why they are common in actual laxatives. I never did Slim-fast, but recently I was not eating well so my spouse decided to get me premade low calorie breakfast protein drinks. Protein drinks are not on my plan, but I drank a couple and dumped each time (not severely). I accidentally threw the rest away... oops. "Sorry dear, I didn't know!" When I was binge running my Doc had be add a protein drink or two because without them I felt like I was eating all day and still losing too much weight. When I stopped I returned to my original plan. I don't recall particular brands I used but I do know they were chocolate and started as powder. Coulda been Nestle for all I know. A lot of this stuff, drinks, foods, drugs, activities, whatever, are trial and error. We each need to find what works for us with an eye to not developing bad habits that ultimately won't work for us. Good luck, Tek -
Hi! I'm in the UK too and due to have RNY gastric bypass on 22nd October (as long as the hospital is still doing non-urgent ops then and not pushed over to Covid cases 🤞). Hope your surgery goes well!

Finally on home stretch for revision to bypass
bajankat posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good afternoon, I've had quite an interesting 18 months after being sleeved. I developed horrible GERD and I have a hernia. I'm finally scheduled for revision after fighting for so long with my insurance company (since August) to be approved. I'm excited but scared due to other surgical complications last year. My date is Oct 29th and I've started the liquid diet today. So far so good. -

I have had revision from lapband to gastric bypass 6 weeks ago. I am trying to learn my new norm. One question though, what are some decent go to snacks? I have gotten hungry a couple of times. Any ideas?

Anyone for October 2020?
MamT replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the bypass and hiatal hernia repair Monday the 12th as well and I’m still having really bad gas pains. I am passing the gas and having bowel movements but still have bad pain in my upper back. Everything gets better each day but it’s still painful. I’m not taking any pain meds because of how sensitive I am to them but I am taking Tylenol for the pain. I just keep walking and getting in my fluids. I know it will get better but it has been pretty rough. I hope you feel better soon! -
3 days post op and I feel worse...
gehibbs replied to ZeeWP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
AGREED. I had revision to bypass on 9.04. You have to get the protein into your body. Shakes, scoops in water....whatever it takes. When you do that you will feel better..... -
I am presently 7 weeks post op. I calculated 5 lbs per week loss thus far. Feeling great, no problem in nutrition due to ordering food from Bariatric Pal. For example the oatmeal cereal packets, I add in a small amount of old fashion oatmeal to it. My nutrition recommended me to increase to 1 cup verses 1/2 cup. Gastric bypass on Aug 28, 2020 with total loss of 37 lbs. Feel good, some straining in the beginning for BM but now it is much better with increase liquid intake of up to 8 cups per day. Meeting all my vitamin and protein intake. I also eat with a baby spoon that helps me control food intake. I use FairLife liquid instead of regular milk for cereal and liquid intake. So much easier with the packets/foods from Bariatric Pal. I do sugar free popsicles as well. No ice cream cause this was one of my down falls prior to surgery. It feels so good to fit in smaller clothing with ease instead of struggling to put it on or off. My husband is proud of me and very supportive. By watching me lose the weight, he is watching his food intake and lost weight with food portion control. Good luck to each of you on your journey.

Anyone for October 2020?

October 12, 2020 I had my Bypass surgery and on my 3rd day and I feel AWFUL!!!! -
For those of you who had gallbladder issues, what symptoms did you have? I've sent my surgeon a note but am curious what others have experienced while I am waiting to hear back. For reference, since bypass I've had what I thought was intermittent heartburn and neck pain. I mentioned the heartburn to my Dr at my 6 months, but didn't describe the actual pain. I was googling (I know, I know...) and it sounds like it could potentially be gallbladder. Symptoms are pain behind & below low my right breast, near my sternum. I also often have pain in the back of my neck and the same time. I also have fairly regular back pain (long standing) so no idea if that's related. Thanks for sharing, Lori

Hello, I had my bypass on Monday, and I feel like crap also, tomorrow I start on my protein shakes, so may I will feel better. I hop that you will feel better soon, too! -
Congratulations! Did you have your band removed and the bypass in one surgery? My surgeon wouldn’t do both at the same time. I had my band removed in January and am scheduled to have bypass surgery on November 5th. Once the band was removed, my insurance required a 6 month weight mgmt program.

Hello everyone! Had my bypass Monday Morning. Immediately waking up I felt awful because they had complications during surgery and I couldn't get on narcotics. However, after the happy drugs I started to progressively get better. But today (Thursday) I feel much worse. I am not getting much in protein and calories wise, I am lucky if it's more than a couple of ounces a day. I also haven't pooped since Saturday night. I originally chalked it up to not having anything in my stomach, but now I don't know... Any ideas or tips?

Hi,I'm 12 weeks post bypass and have been feeling rather nauseous at even the thought of food...I've been fine up until now,but this past week the thought of even a tiny bit of my favourite food is turning my stomach. Please tell me this passes 🙏

Just had my surgery and last night was a rough one. The pain was terrible. Surprisingly, I had no gas pain... yet. They’re telling me that I’m doing well. I switched from a bed to a chair and it has helped. I have re-evaluated my home care and will be sleeping upright in a chair to help with mobility. Hopefully, I’ll feel more normal in a few days. Very excited about the future. I hope everyone is doing well! Btw, I had conversion surgery. Went from vsg to bypass. -
I had the sleeve done 4 years ago. Lost 115 pounds. Gained about 20 pounds over the last year. I ended up with severe GERD, hiatal hernia and gallstones that cause severe pain. 9/6 I had the surgeries to fix all that which includes the bypass. It's been an interesting month. The healing process is different. Food going down too fast will definitely be coming back up (vomiting). Anything not chewed will be coming back up. Premier protein is smooth enough to stay down. Soups like French onion, chicken noodle (minute the noodles) veggie soup. Salmon. 2 good Yogurt and high protein high fiber oatmeal. Stays down for me. It's a big adjustment. I know that this is just a phase that we go through. I can eat boiled eggs now too. Eat slowly-chew slowly-swallow slowly. Drink 60 ounces of water. Follow the doctors orders. You'll loose weight I've seen people successfully keep the weight off with both. They stick to the high protein/low carb and don't eat anything they did before ( that made them obese....like breads, maccoroni, rice, flour, sugar, fried foods). How are you all managing constipation? That's been interesting. Take care and give yourselves room to adjust. Things will get better. We make the best of the tool ( bypass) and it will work for us. Everything will workout for the greater good. We deserve healthy and happy lives and we embrace them daily.

I don't know what to do first!
mlmx1138 replied to mlmx1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, measuring cups, small plates and bowls, I need those. Good advice about not getting too many post-op things so soon... thank you! BTW, after many phone calls today, I got in for November 10th. I told my boss I need a "medical procedure" and she is great with my time off. (Only telling a few about the bypass) Alleluia! I'm scared, and happy!!! -
I am just struggling massively right now due to my pre op diet. I am constantly hungry and so tired of the liquids and just not in a good mental place. I feel like I’ve chosen the wrong time to have my revision and worried the surgery isn’t even going to accomplish anything. The wish to eat food is just SO strong and I feel so angry and anxious all the time. I’m just wondering how I’m ever going to make this succeed. I have two more days until I go in for my surgery and am hoping that at least the restriction will make this a little easier as I won’t be constantly starving. just really struggling right now.
