    Thanks friend I can’t wait to reach those numbers congratulations on your weightloss im in a weird spot where I’m trying to figure out a workout routine and sometimes I mess up with the foods I eat so I’ve been at this weight for a few weeks now any suggestions?
  2. Made it through 1 week of pre-op diet. 1 week until surgery! honestly this has not been so bad, which gives me hope I can manage the post-op ramp up plan well. I haven’t fully avoided caffeine - one of the shakes I drink is a coffee one with caffeine, which I think has helped this not be as bad as it might be. Down 9 lbs!
  3. Hi everyone, im new here… I came across your post and feel so relieved to read how good you feel now. I had surgery about 2 weeks ago. Everything went well. I felt like I had made the best choice…well… as long as I was on pain meds and not eating I should say. Because as soon as I got home it started with the buildup gasses which extremely uncomfortable and sometimes painful. I had a liquid diet and stuck to it religiously even though I could never keep up with the quantities. At best I had half of every tiny meal and only managed 3 out of the 6. I was starting to feel miserable. My stomach would gurgle and make horrible burping sound at the slightest sip of Water. Then came week 2, in which I am right now. This week it is minced food. So I can have cream cheese and blitzed vegetables (as long as it is smooth) mixed with a lot of Protein. I was happy for the change, but I have experienced dumping yesterday which lasted 2 hours and then today again TWICE in a row! To say that I absolutely afraid of food now is an understatement. I barely have 300cal a day. I feel “fine” but exhausted at the same time. I look at food videos and want to cry. I’m not hungry, just scared of what I’ve done. The gassy feeling is slightly better but I though dumping happened when eating fatty foods or sugary foods?? I haven’t done none of that and I experienced horrible pain. I don’t think I’ll be able to take it…. Its good to see that I’m not the only one in this. I’m devastated. Ive lost 13kg since doing the pre-op diet. (Around 26 pounds) I fear it might be too fast… but good to read that it can and will get better ❤️‍🩹
  4. I had the sleeve, I had GERD and was taking prescribed meds for it. My doctor did not advise me which one to do. I am 3 years out and I am very happy where I am at weigh wise. Started at 250 currently between 130-140. I was not really into them rerouting my intestines' and all that stuff. But that is just me lol. I still have heartburn issues but I pretty much know what to eat to keep it at bay. I still will take OTC meds. Best of Luck on your journey
  5. I absolutely love my sleeve. BUT, I have to have a revision to bypass because it caused me MAJOR gerd issues. I didn't have any kind of gerd or reflux pre surgery, so I chose the sleeve. But it's caused horrible gerd, which made me need very high dose of PPI long term and gave me gastritis and esophagitis. The PPI caused pre cancerous polyps all through my stomach (3 different kinds, all different sizes) that require multiple procedures to remove them. Once that's done and I'm cleared, I have to have a revision to the bypass. If it wasn't for this, I would be ecstatic with my sleeve. I lost 110 pounds in 9 months. I went from a size 10 ring to a size 7. I went from a size 28/30 in clothes to 18/20. I got off my blood pressure medication and all 3 diabetes meds. I'm able to go BEAST MODE in my work outs. I wish I didn't have to get the bypass, but here we are. So just do your research because even if you don't have any gerd issues at all, the sleeve can cause it and you may end up with a revision to the bypass anyway.

    Phentermine

    I'm 6 months into my gastric sleeve and my dr prescribed low dose Phentermine to break my stall, very short term..... it worked and I'm back to loosing again. I only take it as needed to break through plateaus. 3-4 days max then off till I hit another stall. It's working for that purpose, no serious side effects thank goodness, but it does give me crazy energy.
  7. Lol! The same thing happened to me. I was on holiday too & packed the strapless bra which I had fit fine a few weeks previously. But unfortunately it didn’t anymore. I thought it was going to fall straight to the ground & I’d have to step out of it & leave it on the footpath 😆😆.

    Also a sleeve and also ended up taking 2 whole weeks off. And even after that I was really really tired at the end of a working day (sedentary job) so honestly it took me 3 weeks to get back to my baseline. I echo what the others have said about arranging some flexibility in advance if you can at all. Best of luck with your surgery. It's absolutely life changing. You will love it after you get over the initial pain and stuff.
  9. I do most of this too at 15 months out - I use a dessert fork and eat from small plates. I also cut up meat into tiny pieces. I think (hope!) it'll be a long time before I change that. Have never thought about the size of each mouthful - a black bean is so tiny but I suppose nothing wrong with starting there. My biggest fault is eating too quickly. I tend to inhale about 3/4 of what I know (from previous experience) I will be able to eat at a particular meal and then push my chair back and wait to see whether I want (or need) the rest (either can apply depending on the day and the meal!) Best of luck to you. And sorry - only now seeing that you particularly wanted info from people with RnY - I had a sleeve. Hope it helps a little anyway.
  10. are you sure it was dumping? Dumping usually means dizziness, heart palpitations, chills or sweating, cramps, and diarrhea. it you were vomiting and generally can't keep food down, that could be that your stomach isn't quite ready to move to the next food progression - in which case going back to the week 1 plan for a few days before trying week 2 again is the usual solution. Or it could be some kind of food intolerance. That's not uncommon after surgery and is usually temporary. Lactose and artificial sweeteners are the usual culprits for that. a third possibility is a stricture, although those usually appear between weeks 4 and 12, so it's a little early - and I'm not sure if they occur with mini bypasses or not (they do with traditional gastric bypasses - about 5% of bypass patients get those). I'd call your clinic and let them know what's going on. They might want you to come in for testing. Plus Tomo is right - not being able to keep food down for a few days is one thing, but not being able to keep fluids down can be dangerous.
  11. Hi everyone, im new here… had to find a support group somehow even though I really didn’t think I needed one in the first place. I’m pretty strong and have had many medical issues in the past (breast cancer being one of them). I’m 44 now and living in Belgium. But no matter where you live things are pretty similar surgery wise. I had surgery about 2 weeks ago. Everything went well. Prior to it, I had this super strict diet which was not liquid but sugar free, fat free and carb free, to reduce the size of my liver. It was really hard and I lost 6kg (around 12 pounds I think). Surgery as I said went super smoothly and I felt like I had made the best choice…well… as long as I was on pain meds and not eating I should say.     Hurry up and wait some more

    Slow down and be patient. I know that for a lot of us, when we make the decision to get surgery, it feels urgent — we’ve gotten to the point that we can’t stand living with obesity for another day — and the wait to get the surgery feels like an eternity. But the pre-surgery process is a long one and it usually takes months from your initial consultation (which, if I understand correctly, you haven’t even had yet) to the actual surgery date. For me, it was 5 months, and even though it seemed like such a long wait, it flew by and once I got to the 2-week liquid diet, I felt like it snuck up on me so quickly! I would definitely not recommend starting a liquid diet before you even go in for your initial consultation. You’re not going to want to do that for any longer than required, and again, it could be months before your surgery. Instead, I recommend downloading a food tracking app (I use MyFitnessPal, but there are other options like Baritastic, Lose It, Cronometer, etc.) and start tracking everything you eat. Actually measure your portions, preferably with a food scale. I wouldn’t recommend rushing into anything before you’ve actually talked to a surgeon. Your surgeon’s office should give you all the information about post-op progression and vitamin recommendations. There’s no need for you to get a head start on it at this point, and you may find that your surgeon”s instructions will be different than some random information from the internet.

    Questions - Contemplating Surgery

    I am having VSG surgery at Endobariatric with Dr. Alvarez on 3/3/23. Dr. Alvarez's fees are almost twice that of other sugeons in Mexico but his credentials, professional memberships/affiliations and surgical success/risk rating is among the best of bariatric surgeons internationally .... I am confident in my choice! You need to evaluate whether you are mentally prepared to make permanent changes to your relationship with food. Emotional eaters frequently go through a mourning period because it is harder to depend on food as a crutch to deal with life's problems and disappointments. WLS does not force a person's compliance. Adherence to a structured plan is essential to success. WLS is not a cure all or quick fix....it is a tool which can HELP us but we still have to be disciplined and put in the work. Not only do we need to physically prepare ourselves for WLS, but mentally as well. Drastic weight loss can cause fluctuations in hormones which can create an emotional roller coaster ride. If you are suffering with episodic periods of depression, i strongly suggest working with a therapist before pursuing WLS, which is a dramatic life changing event. Best of luck to you!

    Size of what you put in your mouth to chew?

    We’re all told small bites regardless of surgery. I was a tip of a teaspoon person during purées & worked to half a level teaspoon during soft. I ate from a teaspoon or a buffet spork for months & months & never heaped them. There are reasons for this especially in the first few weeks. The main is protect your healing tummy & not to strain it with too much food entering the tummy with each bite. Our throats can be irritated after surgery too. It also contributes to us being more mindful about our eating - not mindlessly filling our mouths with food. It also slows our eating down & allows the time needed for the message to get through we’ve had enough to eat (not full - feel full & you’ve likely eaten too much or more than you need). Same with sipping. Think how you sip a very hot drink.

    Weight loss stall 3 weeks out

    It happens to most people. It’s your body reacting to the stress of the surgery, reduced caloric intake, etc. Your body has just temporarily taking a time out. Your weight loss will start again when your body is ready - usually 1-3 weeks. Stick to your plan & breathe. Don’t stress yourself more. Take some body measurements. Some people notice a change on a tape measure even if the scale doesn’t move.

    We all heal & recovery differently & in our own time. Two friends & I had our surgeries within 2 years of each other. One took a week & was define. One took three weeks. Me I needed every one of my four weeks but I always recover slowly. And yes we all had office jobs. Best advice is to speak to your boss & negotiate some flexibility just in case you need it: another week off, reduced hours, etc. Lethargy & poor concentration are very common after surgery & may impact your work. All the best with your surgery & recovery.
  22. Stalls are very common & yes, the first one usually occurs at week 3 though it can be earlier or later than that. They usually last 1-3 weeks too. They’re your body shutting down & taking a time out in reaction to the stress it’s been under (surgery, reduced calorie intake, etc.). Stick to your plan & it will break when your body is ready & the weight loss will start again. Go back to your team & ask for more information. You’re paying them to support you & you have the right to ask for what ever information you need to feel comfortable & confident about this process & what you have to or can do . We all have different needs (what I was told may not be completely right for you) & they should be there for you. Can’t complain about an almost 7kg weight loss in 4 weeks especially with a stall. I’d lost about the same in my first month (& I never really stalled during that time). My surgeon & dietician were very happy. Not sure of your starting weight, but remember those people who lose those large amounts of weight seen in programs like My 600lb Life started at very high weights. And they only lose at that rate in the beginning.

    It often starts around month 3 & will persist about 3 months. As with all things it may start sooner or later than that and last more or less than 3 months.

    Surgery more than 2 years ago?

    I was sleeved a dozen years ago. I was in my mid 50's. I started at 320 pounds, lost 25 pre surgery, then lost to about 175. I stayed at about 180 for many years, but gained after some very tough emotional times over a few years to 220. But kept that 100 pounds off. About 4 years ago, I decided to try to lose 10 pounds in a year. I lost 10 in a few months, doing nothing but being intentional with what I ate; and going back to protein and veggies first. Over two years I lost 40 pounds, realizing that I needed to learn how to maintain my weight - so I would stop losing weight every so often (usually after 8 to 10 pounds down) and NOT lose more, but maintain where I was. How much was I eating, of what, when.... how much was I moving... watching myself and re learning ! I maintained my 175 pounds for another full year - about 7 months ago I decided to lose another 10 pounds. Got there and a few under. I am finally at 29 BMI ! I weigh 162. Less than I did in college in the 1970's !! Loose skin ? Yes. But at 67 next month, I do not want any elective surgeries. I wear a size 14 petite jeans. I have a ton more energy at 67 then I had at 54. I am still working and I organic garden, raise laying hens for organic eggs. I never liked carbonation, so that was never an issue. I eat a healthy diet. I grow fresh greens and veggies. I eat fresh fruits. I eat kind of low carb - if I have a sandwich with bread, for lunch I won't eat carbs for breakfast or dinner. I eat a treat every day. Even when losing weight. But now I can enjoy an oreo, or 2 little dove chocolates..... Or one skinny cow dessert. I had company for dinner this weekend. I BBQed burgers. I ate a half of a hamburger - half the bun, and some fresh fruit salad. I was almost on over fill ! I use most carbs as sprinkles. If I eat Asian, I order chicken and veggies. I sprinkle rice on top. Steak ? Sure. crumble part of a baked potato with it. I steam most veggies at home. I make fish on the grill a couple times a week and then make it into a salad the next day for lunch. I eat differently than I did before. I am healthy and happy. No regrets at all.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    My surgery is on Monday, February 20. I don’t have to start my liquid diet until February 19 at 2 PM. I had a different surgeon at first and he said I would have to do two weeks of a liquid diet before the surgery but the new surgeon is only making me have a liquid diet for less than a day before the surgery. I am very happy about that. Does anybody else have that less than 24 hours of a liquid diet?
