    Exercise And Fat Loss

Its so true. I'm a little obsessed about this. Its just my nature to turn weight loss scientific rather than just do it, and I'm a bit panicky over this initial post banding loss. I really believe that initial huge quick losses are not something to aim for because you're only losing lean body tissue (and water). I've worked quite hard to get real food in in liquid form and my first week's loss has been 2.3 kg which is still pretty fast but nowhere near as incredibly fast as lots of people lose at first. I've tried hard not to let the surgery set me back, I'm living my ordinary active lifestyle and getting a walk in each day. But I"m frustrated I cant do vigorous stuff and weight training for a good few weeks yet - I feel like I'm withering with each day, lol. A few weeks is not going to hurt but I'm going to really work on my body during this journey. I want to end looking really fit, not just thinner! And the more muscle you have, the more you can eat (meaning maybe one or two less fills) and therefore the more nourishment you get in and the easier it is to maintain your weight. But it is inevitable in a large weight loss that you will lose muscle tissue because your body needs more to support your weight when you're obese. Your excess weight is not just fat, its bone and muscle too - and in fact you'll often find when you go back down the scale, you're leaner at a certain weight than you were on the way up because your bones are denser. I like your take on things JQ, I think you've had such incredible success because you focus so hard on the exercise side of things too. Its not all about just eating less is it?

    Hungrier?

I had my lap band July 2006. At first it was great, I lost 66 pounds and then I fell at work and broke my ankle. I wasn't able to walk for awhile and was only losing 5-6 pounds a month and my Doctor got mad at me and wanted to know when my foot Doctor was going to let me walk again. This totally distressed me and then my Doctor started telling me My husband wasn't giving me the support I needed and I needed to leave him. He said he has only told 2 of his patients that they needed to leave their husbands in his whole practice. He would not give me a fill. I have only had 1 fill of 1 cc since my surgery. My Doctor retired 1 year ago. I have searched for another Doctor and none would see me, saying they do not see other Doctors patients. Now I have finally found a Doctor that will see me and I don't have insurance anymore. Anyway I actually feel a lot hungrier since my band and throw up during just about every meal. I take a bite chew and swallow and run to the bathroom and throw up. I go back and wait for awhile and then I can eat about half my meal. Sometimes I throw that up too. I have gained back most of my weight and am so disgusted with this band, I wish I had never had it done. I hurts so much when I try to eat even with 1 bite. It hurts also when I sleep, I have to position myself so my stomach where my band is dont touch the bed. Also even when I eat and my top part of the stomach is filled, my bottom stomach feels like it is starving. I can feel the hunger pains in my lower stomach. Does anyone else have this problem?
  3. Saw my surgeon today for my first post op visit. Down 25 lbs since starting this whole thing in January. Sleeve surgery was done 5/12/14 & I weighted 284 on that day. I was told I could now have soft/pureed foods. I made the mistake of not THINNING my avocado. Wasn't a good thing. For the first time I felt really awful. I drank water to try & make the food go thru my stomach faster but I have no idea if this worked. I felt so awful that I took a nap & got up felling a lot better. Believe me, all foods will be thinned for a while. I have had very little in the way of nausea but this came close. Would I do this again? Absolutely. I'm very happy with my progress & so was my surgeon. Onward & downward.

    Hungrier?

I had my first fill last week too. At first I thought I was really tight, but now it seems like I can eat more than I should. It seems like I'm gaining a pound or two. I like carbs (fruit & bread) and maybe that's my problem. I eat protein too, maybe just to much.

    737 Calories in today

So I have been in the stall from hell. I started birth contol pill about 3 weeks ago I put on 4 pound without changing my diet one bit. So I stopped taking the pill at week 2 as I was just bloating and got headaches the whole time. So I have been off the pill for 8 days now and my weight has not budged. I read to up my calories to trick my body so I started keeping track on myfatscecret.com and found if I was lucky I was getting about 500 calories a day. I started looking for healty ways so add some more calories, so far that has been adding a protein shake in my day and adding an afternoon snack of cheese and lunch meat. I have to admit It is a lot of work to get in the amount of food that I do, the snacks are really really hard to fit in. I am just plain full. One would think on so little calories I would be dropping the weight right and left. So I need some tip on breaking the stall and ways to get in healthy snacks.
  6. I was self pay and went out of my area for surgery - I selected a local bariatric surgeon who took me on as a patient even though she didn't perform the surgery. I pay $120 for my visits with her. For me, it was important to have aftercare and follow up visits with her. I wanted to have a local resource where I can go to make sure what I'm feeling is normal and she can look at my bloodwork and determine if anything is wrong. I get the blookwork requirements from the surgeons office, then have my primary care doctor order the bloodwork so my insurance will pay (they have to code it as anything other than weight loss for the insurance to cover). I then take my results to the surgeon. That has saved me about $1400 this year. In the end, as with everything else with this journey, you need to do what's best for you. I feel like I get a value from my surgeon's visits and I really like what she offers.

    Tick, tick, tick,tick.....almost time 1/12/15

I feel pretty good...still sore of course...like when I get up. I did expect that though. I have been having the left shoulder pain that others talk about too. I tried weighing myself already...lol. It is hilarious. I know it is a ton of water weight...but I have already lost 23 pounds...since FRIDAY!
  8. They don't seem too small, that's about how much I eat, minus the protein drinks. I usually eat lunch and dinner with 2 snacks of a piece of cheese or some dry cereal. As long as you're losing weight, I think your portions are fine.
  9. I'm not so restricted that I can't eat, but I do get full faster. I can still eat more than I probably should be able to, but I don't let myself eat more than a visual cup full at a time. I'm tracking calories approximately through fitday but not exactly. My weightloss has REALLY come to a creeping stop, and I'm figuring my calroies probably has something to do with it... or it could just be my body "recalibrating" after losing so much so quickly, but in the last 6 - 7 weeks I've lost 5#. I'd love to know if I'm eating wrong... anything to get the weight moving off again while staying as healthy as I can be, so tell me what you think, here's what I ate yesterday and what I've eaten so far today: Breakfast: Protein drink made w/ fat free Carb Countdown milk, with a tbl of low fat/low carb Peanut Butter and a bit (about 1/5) of banana blended in. Lunch: about 40% of a medium chicken breast with a little bit of sauce made with chopped tomatoes, asiago cheese & garlic roasted garlic... and about 2 spoons of mashed potatoes. Snack: Protein Drink made w/ fat free Carb Countdown milk, with 4 oz light OJ. Dinner: Microwaved turkey pepperoni (cook the fat out, has lots of protein) and cottage cheese, about 20 pepperoni and about 1/2 C cottage cheese. Breakfast: 1/2 protein drink w/ low fat/low carb peanut butter blended in. Lunch: 3 grilled chicken tenders, about 2 tsp mashed potatoes, and 1 bite of applesauce (that's the applesauce that prompted my post) Snack: will be the other half of my protein drink. Dinner: Will likely be leftover from lunch yesterday. A typical day might look like this: Breakfast: protein drink with something blended in it, either PB or SF DaVinci, or maybe just a few berries. Lunch: Chipotle chicken bol with just a few black Beans, no rice, green chile salsa, just a bit of sour cream, no cheese. I'll eat half. Dinner: The other half of the chicken bol. Snack: Protein drink (more to make sure I get enough protein than because I'm hungry), or if I'm hungry I'll make 10 microwaved turkey pepperonis.
  10. Here is the link to a blog that tells what I eat. This is what works for me, that doesn't mean it is for everyone. You have to find your own way on this journey. What I eat... - LAP-BAND I stay between 800-1200 calories a day but that depends on if I worked out that day or if I am going to work out the next day then I am around 1200 if I am not working out that day or the next I am at 800. I don't work out everyday instead I work out really hard 3 days a week. I am talking about my pulse being at 90% for an hour, sweating like you wouldn't believe. I have to have 1200 calories to work this hard or I run out of gas. Oh and I worked up to this over a period of time. Keep in mind you have just been banded for 6 weeks or so, I gained weight in the first 6 weeks so don't start beating yourself up for not losing steady. My advice is to look at what you are doing every week and find 1 thing that you can include or eliminate that will give you better results. If you do this every week you will learn a new lifestyle with continuous improvement instead of trying to change your whole life all at once.
  11. I am 15 weeks out too (sleeve surgery Oct 3rd) and I am down 44 pounds. I would say you are right on target. At least I think I am on target. 40 pounds in 15 weeks is approximately 2.66 pounds per week. That is normal, healthy weight loss. I have always been a slow loser too, but I don't worry about the amount of weight loss everyweek, just that I am losing and not gaining. I have never been a binge eater; however, I used to take in the largest majority of my calories in the evening and I (like you) find myself eating all day now (stoking the metabolism fire). Good Luck to you! Keep us all posted on your progress.

    Weights?

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any complications from lifting weights after surgery? I am 7 weeks post op and have lost 40 pounds so far, but I know to keep losing I need to exercise more. I have been doing a few light weights...ab machines...leg press, etc....nothing too heavy along with aerobic activity. I did speak with a nurse at my doctor's office this morning and she stated that everything should be fine; however, I am self pay and certainly cannot afford any complications. I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

    Yawning

Yay! You've discovered your "soft stop" that is a MAJOR milestone on this journey!!! This is the part of the story where Suzzie's weight starts melting faster than a snowman in downtown Houston. Kudo's to you for noticing something was different.

    4 Mo post Op?

I was around 800 but soon bumped myself up to 900-1000 because my weight loss was stalling frequently. Seemed to do the trick.

    help with husband

I totally agree with some of the other comments people have made. When I first looked at LBS options, my husband was not so keen on the idea, he actually told me one day that I was going to lose alot of weight and then leave him. I was somewhat insulted by that accusation. I told him flat out, that I was NOT with him because I settled and because I couldn't do better and that weight loss wouldnt have changed that. Well he is now my ex-husband.. not for that reason, but I do think men get worried that we will leave them. I agree that there is a communication gap there with you and your hubby. You might want to list out some of the health risks that you might incounter or already have encountered and show him how that road is much more dangerous and might not allow you to stay with him and your child for a long road ahead... with the LBS you have a better chance of becoming happier, healthier for yourself and for your family. You might want to ask him what exactly his fears are, and then address them. Let him know that if he is scared of the possible complications then he should attend a seminar or dr visit with you. He has to be willing to compromise as well. You ultimately have to do what is best for yourself or you won't be able to do what's best for your family. Just my .02 cents :scared:

    help with husband

hey there!!! I understand what you are saying. My husband told me he liked me the way I am and that I'm not THAT big. Well, I'm solid so my weight is spread evenly. But still health issues: sleep apena, high blood pressure, II diabetes, PCOS, and my BMI is 41.8. My advise: Really take a moment to think about him body, mind and soul. It may be that he has HIS own insecurities. Complications with or without surgery is NOT the true reason. My husband is truly scared I will lose weight and lose my mind--possiblily hit the club and find new love. He just won't say that. So, there's other underlying reasons believe me. Band is more safer...do what's best for you. Like you, my grandmother died at 54 and I just buried my aunt at 51 on Aug 10th.

    help with husband

what it is is hes afraid that if you lose the weight hell lose that control over you when it comes to maybe other men being attracted to you. and hes afraid that if you do it youll leave him for someone better. my old man did the same thing. i still went thru with it though whether it made him happy or not cause i was doing it not for that reason but for my health. hes a man. what do you expect hell get over it once he sees the results of it later on down the road. and when he sees your happy and healthy . hell accept it more. but hell eventually accept it. just tell him accept what i am doing or dont but im still doing it. dont let him be in control of you!

    Scared of the Holidays

Oh, dear. It's my kind of nightmare. If worrying about overeating and PBing at family gatherings wasn't bad enough... I just received an invitation to a (gulp) formal New Year's party. Yeah, the kind where the women put up their hair and wear fancy gowns. The kind that sends a clothes horse like me running to the closet to see if anything she has is "good enough." My one fancy gown literally fell off me when I tried it on. Yes, I really mean that. I tried to button the neck thingy, lost hold, and the whole dress dropped to pool around my ankles. Darn it, I only wore that stupid thing once. (sigh) Okay, so it was a size 26 or so. The host of the party knows I've lost a lot of weight, and he sent a note telling me that while the "formal" was important, he told me to do my best but don't fret. Such a sweetheart! Then I went to my very favorite silky pantsuit. (Wince) Same thing with the silky pantsuit, only the pants ended up around my ankles and the top, well, let's just say Santa's bag would fit better. Oh, dear. Um...Anyone know a used formalwear shop?

    Saggy Skin after banding

I was curious...I am 28 yrs 5'5 and 215 old and have been athletic my whole life. I am over weight by about 80 pounds but still have really good muscle definition. I have had one child via c-section with minimal stretch marks...I am worried about possible saggy skin...My legs are really tight and muscular, I am not a flabby person, but I am curious if anyone who works out with cardio and weights 4-5 days a week like me has been banded and is tone and muscular with no saggy skin. My stomach is what I really worry about...I dont have rolls standing just sitting... Any advise?
  22. I had a horrible post op experience-adverse reaction to the post surgery pain meds. I'm home now. Can't sleep. Can't eat (obviously) more than 3 T of any broth. Sore sore sore.... At least I've lost some weight.
  23. I was banded on 7/6 and quickly lost 15lbs in the first two weeks. Since then, I haven't lost any more weight and have been at the same weight for about 1 week! I'm eating right-what should I do?? Has anyone else experienced this and how did you get through it to start losing again? (my first fill will be on 8/19) Thanks in advance for the advice!

    OMG! I YELLED at a minister--on TAPE!!

ROFLMAO...that is too funny. I would probably done the same thing as I hate cameras and videos even more. I hope losing weight will change that for me. I am sure the good Lord will forgive you for yelling at the minister as He will understand your dilema. lol Jolynn
  25. @Bndtoslv I was floating around 145-150 lbs for a couple of years while I had a healthy band, and I was pretty happy there. I looked and felt good and healthy. I think I really want to get to 140. I am a medium to slow loser, but I know that I can drop the weight pretty steadily, but of course it is hard not to get impatient about it, lol.
