  1. Here are some things that happened and no one told me about: I lost my boobs - like LOST them. They are down there somewhere. 42DD to 34A. I have to special order bras. My bottom is so bony that it hurts to sit on hard chairs. I had so much energy during the active weight loss and ketosis that I couldn't sleep. I was the energizer bunny on steroids. I lost my food shelf - you know, that convenient bulge where you can put your plate when you sit in the recliner. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe. Size 24 pants to 10. I was actually comfortable this past summer in the heat.... but I am freezing all the time now. I have saggy skin, but I lost my triple chin, my thighs don't rub, and no more fungal infections from folds and heat. My little grandson squeezes my upper arms and says, "Squishy." I can't swim very well anymore. I just sink. I lost all my buoyancy. I had to get a new wedding band. I found new bones I didn't ever remember having - collar bones, ribs, hips. But on the flip side, I don't have GERD, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure anymore. My HDL, triglyceride, and A1c numbers are awesome. I can sit in any chair in the room, my seat belt doesn't rub on my neck, I can walk, hike, and ride my bike for hours without stopping, my resting pulse rate is in the 40's, I can get down on the floor and get up by myself, my bath towel goes all the way around me plus extra left over, I am one of the smallest people in a room instead of the largest, my necklaces hang down onto my chest, I can buy clothes in any store and in regular departments, and people call me "skinny." Unbelievable!

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Hi everyone, just wanted to Pop in and give an update. I was sleeved yesterday around noon EST so still under 24 hours post op. Everything went wonderfully, I was on clear liquids just a few hours after, tolerating well. Pain is honestly petty minimal for me, I’d have to say a 4 on a scale of 10 is the worst I’ve felt. I had my last pain meds at midnight and since my pain is even more minimal now (1-2) . I have a lot of pressure in my abdomen but In weird spots. Lower right and at my sternum. Incision areas aren’t painful. Been walking walking to move the gas through ( quite successfully) haha! Best wishes to those still go on their surgery’s and a quick and speedy recovery to those who are on the other side! 🙂
  3. I feel amazing. Sleeved on the 8th October, have lost 26kg since then. My life is no longer ruled by food. The only stress is how to get enough food and protein in with my tiny tummy. I'm exercising again, my old clothes fit (some are too big!) and I just feel incredible. No more snoring or sore joints. I've lost more than my 8 year old weighs. That blows my mind when I think about it. And so does the fact that I'm only 10-15kg from my goal weight.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Hi guys!!! I’m a little over 24 hours post op. This is my first surgery ever in my life. I went in really nervous woke up so fright and out of it that I regretted it because I couldn’t hold my crying baby. The pain was not in my incisions it was all over my body like I had gotten beat up. Drinking the 4 oz of water with one oz being protein. My hospital uses ensure protien max. They do NOT recommend the regular ensure. Only the low fat and carb protein max. I have to say it was rather tasty. And I don’t like protein drinks at all. The nausea patch behind your ear creates extreme dry mouth. I brushed my teeth often and it helped but didn’t go away. It’s starting to subside now. I had my surgery 01/14 at 6pm and was released home 01/15 at 3pm. So less than 24 hours. And I love being home!!!!! If anyone has any questions I would love to answer them?

Lap Band Removal and Revision Suggestions Needed

So I had a consult with the surgeon that did my upper GI. He is recommending I revise to the Sleeve. His estimate is I will lose the same amount of weight with the Sleeve or with Bypass, but Bypass has greater risk of complication. I have a couple friends who have the sleeve and didn't loose the weight they wanted to, hit a plateau and have gained back some weight. I'm worried about that. A complication of my band has been GERD, so I am also worried about that continuing if I have the sleeve. The surgeon really seemed to be pushing the sleeve, same with his office staff. But it was the same 10 years ago when I had the lap band, and now that has fallen out of favor...will the same happen with the sleeve? Should I just go with my gut and do the bypass???
  7. Hey, so ive noticed there was 2 things I've eaten that caused really bad pain in the center of my stomach (area between ribs).. I'm thinking it's just something my stomach didn't agree with at all and maybe just created trapped gas?? I'm not sure but it does hurt and it takes about an hour or so for it to stop hurting. It's only happened 2 times since surgery (11/15/19)... Has anyone else had this happened ?? Sent from my moto g(7) supra using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. A good pasta alternative is made by great low carb bread company. They make elbow macaroni, spaghetti, rotini, fettuccini, penne, orzo rice pasta, for example 2 ounces of spaghetti is 110 calories, 19 Grams carbs, 12 grams fiber, 18 grams protein. It’s made with pea protein isolate. Oat fiber. Wheat fiber. Egg whites. Wheat gluten. Semolina. they make bread, bagels, pizza crust also. there are always healthy alternatives and it depends what your new pouch can handle. As well as what foods will keep you from falling back into old bad habits. https://greatlowcarb.com I used to buy from www.Netrition.com since I’d buy a lot of low carb products. Probably anything in the bread or pasta, even low carb is better for maintenance. Although I do on occasion have a protein pasta from BariatricPal. Like a creamy chicken pasta soup type thing. But it’s portion controlled. And has protein. i do finally use those little dishes that came in our dish set and have little bowls I use as well.

  10. I too wanted the bypass to lose the maximum amount of weight and my doctor felt I could achieve the same results with the sleeve even though I suffered from GERD. I trust my doctor and I'm very happy with my surgery. I have not had any issues with GERD since my surgery. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 206 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I had GERD, Barrett's esophagitis from the acid, and even a Barrett's polyp that was removed. It was a slam dunk for gastric bypass if I wanted to avoid the acid and possible progression to cancer, I am happy to report that 10 months after surgery, a follow up EGD showed NO Barretts! I have an ulcer but no Barrett's.
  12. Hi Everyone, Great to hear that I'm not alone! I was sleeved on 12/30/19. I have been down almost 25 pounds since last Thursday. I started puree stage then and since, then the scale has gone up a little then down. I know that my body is trying to adjust I'm sure. I am eating puree 3x a day, about 2 oz of cottage cheese with a little bit of peach puree, scrambled egg, chicken, a little spinach puree, and light soup. I am really struggling to getting more than 48 oz of water. Very tired of protein shakes, ugh and a wee bit of nausea now and again. Been walking around the block, doing light arm and leg exercises. My next Dr appt is in 3 months! He told me to start on regular food at week 4, no more puree. I eat slow and sometimes can feel it, other times I don't feel restriction at all, depending on the food. I'm so worried about stretching out my pouch! I am averaging about 500-600 calories per day.
  13. I’m doing quite well. I was 222 on October 1 and I was 167.5 today. My goal was to hit 155 that I now feel confident that I will hit. So 54.5 lbs down. I am 5’6” and now I have a BMI of 27. I started with a BMI of 35. I may lower the goal when I get there but I’m not sure how that will look at 55 years old. I feel so much better than I did in July at my first appointment. I was 228 then so technically I am down 61 since the summer. How are YOU doing?

    My journey

Welcome, and congratulations on the first 30 pounds lost on your journey!!! Do you have a surgery date? I just joined yesterday and I am also pre-op, My journey began on July 29th, 2019. I weighted 395 pounds. Through changes in diet, exercising daily, and taking Ozempic—all three of which I call the current contents of my weight loss tool box—I have lost 105 pounds so far. I am having bypass surgery on February 24th, 2020. I look forward to following you and your progress as we go on our respective health journeys!
  15. OMG I'm so thankful for this thread! I thought I was the ONLY one! I had a total abdominal hysterectomy back in April of 2017 and I was sleeved in April of 2019. I have lost 71lbs in 9 months. Although I am grateful, I feel like I should be further along. I'm almost certain the hysterectomy plays a part. It's so frustrating ☹️

    Losing More By Eating More

I haven't had surgery yet, but I have been dieting since July 2019 as my surgeon wanted me to get my BMI down to 50 before surgery. I started at trying to stay at or under 2400 calories per day and as I lost weight I dropped it to 2000 per day. After about 3 months I was comfortable on 1600 calories a day. I also noticed that if I stalled or even wasn't stalling that if I had a couple of days closer to my upper limits and then cranked it back down to lower I had my best week of weight loss. I haven't done much research but I think this is labelled as a calorie confusion diet or metabolic confusion diet. This is where you alternate between high calorie and low calorie days. I also did 16:8 intermittent fasting. Your body thinks it is starving on the lower calories and then you bump your metabolism back up with high calorie day.

    Post your stats

I am scheduled for surgery on February 24th, and I can relate to being ready to go! On July 29th, 2019, I weighed 395.4 pounds, my heaviest weight. Since that date, through a combination of diet changes, daily exercise and Ozempic, I have lost 105 pounds. My goal for weight loss before surgery was 100 pounds, and I will continue to lose before surgery. My goal weight following surgery is 145 pounds. I have found that the small things are what I notice the most. For example, not being winded walking from my car to my office, or not needing an extender for the seatbelt on airplanes! I also love how much energy I have, even though I have nearly eliminated caffeine (sans a Diet Coke every once in a while :)).

    3 Month Stall. WTF?!

I am 14 months out from surgery. I pretty much stabilized at 12 months. But I don't have any more weight to lose, so, that's probably a good thing. lol. I hit my personal goal weight at 10 months out..
  19. Sandra Nuelken

Has anyone made it past the 6 month stall!???

I didn't change much except I added a handful of Almonds. Excercise or not didn't seem to make a difference. Going from losing easily the first 4 months and dropping over 10 pounds a month, I just had to adjust that maybe 5 - 8 pounds a month was going to be the new standard. I'm sure measurements were changing, but I only own a ruler so they are hard to take. I'm sticking to the program and still very happy. Going down is better than up. Taking a month-long view is better than a daily view. You have done a terrific job and the last 20 or so are going to be the hardest. The end is so close. Keep it up.

    Non Scale Victories

Casually training 😅 I refuse to commit to one until I hit 10 miles with AT LEAST a sub 12 min/mi pace. The fall half marathon near me kicks everyone off who doesn’t keep under 14min/mi and I would be mortified/filled with rage if it happened to me. 😣
  24. So, I've experienced quite a few NSVs as of recent. I can cross my legs (not super comfortably yet, but hey); I'm in a size 14/16, down from a 26; and I see my collarbones. Yay! 2 1/2 months out - 50 lbs lost post surgery and an additional 54 lbs was lost before (on my own, July 2019). I'm walking fast and exercising amazingly. This, all from the woman who got winded walking down the block to her car. Life is good!

    Non Scale Victories

I understand completely! I felt great until mile 6 then I was like “okay this isn’t fun anymore 😭🤬”. It’s going to take some serious work to get to 10 and 13 miles and I’ll have to figure out at what point to start adding some fuel/water during the run and what won’t cause cramping. It’s been a fun/painful journey for sure 😅
