    Pain Post Revision

Wow! So sorry you’re having to deal with this pain. When you say revision, did you have the gastric bypass or did they just tighten your sleeve? Also, do you still have your gallbladder? If you had the RNY then you shouldn’t be throwing up. That’s something you need to tell your surgeon about. Also, the shooting pain from your stomach could definitely be your gallbladder or may just be gas. I had gas pain so bad after my surgery that I couldn’t taya deep breath for 2 weeks. My doctor put me on muscle relaxers to help and it did. Heres one last thing I can think of.....you may have some milk intolerance that is causing the gas and pain. I found out I have it bad and the only protein that doesn’t bother me is collagen protein. I hope this helps, but I would definitely call your doctor!
  2. So, I am nearly 15 years (yes years) postop. I started at 315 and plummeted to 142 within 10 months of surgery. I was super happy but I was also sick. I didn't have energy, I looked sick...but I was SKINNY! For the first time in my adult life, I wore a SMALL! I loved and hated it at the same time. Then I was told to gain weight because due to all the excess skin, I was really underweight and it was NOT healthy for me. Well, long story short...I can eat pretty much anything and not dump. Then my portions started growing and my snacking came back. I gained, I lost, I gained, I lost...you all know how that goes. I got back up to 230 and was miserable again. I started doing VERY well earlier this year and lost nearly 25 pounds of regain, then COVID-19 struck and has me working from home. This led right back to horrible habits and not as much movement (I didn't even have to walk to my car!). The company I work for has wonderful programs to help get motion and nutrition back on track. Well, that is if you are able bodied (I have bad knees and am just trying to keep replacements at bay as long as I can) and can eat like a normal person. The PT and nutritionist had me doing things that just didn't work for me...not once but TWICE. I told them over and over I couldn't exercise on my knees nor could I eat the portions they were assigning to me. Frustrated, I started researching revisions. I found one I was seriously contemplating, regardless of insurance coverage (I was THAT desperate). I was on the verge of calling my GP for a referral when I thought, "What about going back to basics"? So, about two weeks ago, I found some sites (this is one of them!) with bariatric specific meal plans, food, vitamins, gadgets, etc. I took the plunge and ordered protein powders, protein snacks, meal replacements and changed my vitamin routine to the 1 A Day on here. I bought shaker bottles for my shakes, 15 minute increment water bottles to make me drink my water (if you knew me, you would know I HATE water), and I also cleared two shelves in my pantry for JUST ME. It's now been just over a week and I am down 4 pounds. I have so much more energy that my husband was like "who are you and where is my wife"! I have already noticed a difference in some of my clothes - no more dancing routine putting on my yoga pants! It's not easy, but I have to remember where I was and where I want to be once again! Sorry this was so long but I started typing and couldn't stop!
  3. My bypass was 11/4. Home on 11/5 & I had gained @ 4lbs.
  4. I had the sleeve done in January 2014. It was successful when you consider why I had it. Which was to be able to get pregnant along with some other health concerns. I didn't lose as much weight as one would think but again it wasn't my intention anyway. I just wanted to get to a healthier weight. My highest was 311 and the lowest I got to post sleeve was 206. I loved the way I felt and looked at that weight. After having a baby and falling into some bad old habits but more importantly suffering from severe acid.reflux and being dependent on antacids I decided to look into revision surgery. On Sept 17th I weighed 286 as of today I weigh 254. Things are for the most part going well and I no longer rely on antacids. That being said I am suffering on a daily basis from pain shooting from abdomen to back. It is below breast bones in center. I am most certain it is gas so I've been taking a lot of gas-x. I suffer from chronic pain from a previous injury so I take pain medication daily. I eat when I am hungry but throw up almost every time which happen the first time while I was training my mind and body until I learned the hard way what not to have. So I've just switched to protein drinks and water. But the pain is almost unbearable and I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen to them?

    Sleeve to...? Revision seeker

I had a sleeve and kept off my 90 pounds for 6 years. But! I stoped using my tool thinking since I can’t eat that much I won’t gain well for married and are small but bad then more and stretched my sleeve. Still ate well at times but because of health problems I. March could not work out and I gained 10 pounds in honeymoon and 28 since covid. Bad I know. Anyways I also had acid reflux but wanted to lose and keep off. Did the bypass and I’ve dropped 17 pounds already. I’m happy I did it. Just got it Monday and I’m in pain it’s WAY worse than the sleeve. But hey we can all get seconds chances we just have to stick to it so I’m joining a support group Monday and I’m logging all my fluids and food In myfitnesspal it’s the only way I can do it.

    Revision completed

Hi I had my revision Monday 11/2. 11/3 was horrible. Not as easy as the sleeve was and I’m starving lol I cried, my nurses (2) sucked and I was in a lot of pain! More then before way more but today is day 5 post op and I’m better. My incisions started to get infected bcuz I had a rash from the dermabond so I had to Peep it off and now I’m on a horse pill antibiotic. I’m already dropping weight. I only felt a little acid last night when I had Greek yogurt. My doc gave me a diet plan to follow from day 3-16.

I had my bypass this past Thursday morning, the 5th, and it went well. My doc also repaired my hiatal hernia while he was in there. I spent one night in the hospital. I feel very fortunate because I had no nausea, and didn’t even need any pain meds until I got home Friday afternoon and started moving around more. When I strain at all, even getting up out of a chair, I get sharp pains on my left side where the incisions are. But I feel fine if I’m just sitting still or standing. I’m looking forward to tomorrow because I’ll be able to add a few more foods. After two weeks of only jello, popsicles and broth, that yogurt is going to taste awfully good!

I feel like I’m not doing all I can

No fraud there. You changed your eating habits for the better and lost weight as a result. That's great progress. I started the year at 300 lbs. and had my Revision to DS in May. I talk about the change in nutrition and revision surgery with whoever asks. Getting comments like "You look like a different person" all the time. Remember the surgery didn't take any weight off. Your new nutrition plan did. If you follow the plan long term, you'll reach your goal. I got the sleeve 7 years ago. I didn't plan out my nutrition very well. I relied on protein bars and protein shakes heavily as a long term diet. I've learned since then it is better to base your nutrition on natural sources, not processed foods. Once I finished the puree diet, I stopped consuming protein shakes and protein bars.
  9. I gained 23 lbs. in the hospital in 5 days getting my revision to DS surgery. I was on an IV the whole time. I had nothing to eat and almost nothing to drink while in the hospital. It took 5 more days to get back to my pre-surgery weight.

Severe LPR 3 years after sleeve

I was sleeved in 2016, on 10/22 had a revision to DS with hiatial hernia repair. 9 hours of surgery, wasnt sure it was the right thing but immediately no more GERD, 20 pounds down in 2 weeks, I can sleep. Wont front the revision surgery kicked my ass, but two weeks later i'm thinking it was the right thing to do
  11. I had my gastric bypass procedure on Tuesday 11/03. I checked my weight the morning of surgery. I hadn’t checked again until today, and somehow I weigh 1 lb. *more* than I did on surgery day. I don’t even know how that’s possible unless it’s a side effect of the procedure itself due to swelling in my body. I’ve consumed nothing except water, sugar free jello, protein soup, clear protein drinks, and heavily diluted apple juice. Taking in enough fluids and protein has been as difficult as expected, so I’m certainly not getting too much. And meds, of course. I’m taking meds too. But that’s the extent of what’s going into my body. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why this might happen?

Severe LPR 3 years after sleeve

There is another procedure called gastric j that apparently is meant to solve the problem as well without needing to go to bypass. I have not had this procedure, but the practice I go to is doing a lot of them and the patients seem very happy and many showing added weight loss after as well. May be worth checking into it.

Anyone have surgery with a Nutcracker Esophagus?

I had to Google the hospital because I have never heard of that one and I’ve lived in Phoenix since 1967. Good Sam is a good hospital but I didn’t know they did gastric bypass there. Good luck to you!

Severe LPR 3 years after sleeve

If it were me, I'd look into a hiatal repair and a revision to bypass surgery. But I'm not a doctor! Good luck and feel better.

    Charcuterie board

We have some friends coming over and I'm usually in charge of the charcuterie board. What gastric bypass friendly cheeses and cured meats should I include? I'm 6 week post op and would like to enjoy a bit. Sent from my SM-G973W using BariatricPal mobile app

Best of luck to you! I had my bypass surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I am drinking clear fluids today with no issues. I was very nervous leading up to this procedure and am relieved it is over and went so well. I have been walking quite a bit today and get to go home tomorrow morning.

That's how my stomach felt too! I had my bypass on the 4th as well. How are you doing?
  21. I’ve been waiting forever for surgery. Was supposed to go in May, then got put on hold because of COVID. Surgeon wanted a Motility study done by Gastrointerologist and I had that done end of June called their office and said it was completed but could never talk to scheduling. They were taking the easy cases during the summer I was complicated. By the way I live in Colorado and my surgeon is in Phoenix AZ! Our insurance is Banner Health and there are no “Tier 1” hospitals here! I did my seminar in September 2019! I get a call 2 weeks ago saying did you ever do you your Motility test? I was so mad because I called twice about it! They finally go the results. The head surgeon has to handle my case and I have a problem from surgery 2 years ago a surgery to repair a para-esophageal hernia where they did a Nissen. I do not have normal peristalsis- muscle movement to move my food and the sphincter at the bottom of esophagus doesn’t relax! So it’s called a Nutcracker Esophagus! She too my case before the GI conference Foregut to discuss it and they agreed that I’d be better off with the surgery and the issue should normalize. Has anyone had this condition prior to a Gastric Bypass surgery and how are you doing now?

    liquid diet troubles

I haven’t had my bypass yet, but I know the liquid stage after can be rough. Just add protein powder or drink protein shakes as much as you can. It’ll help with the hunger feeling. I bought unflavored protein powder to add to soups/broth to help. Are you getting enough protein in?

    Week of 11/9/2020 surgeries

Hi, I’m 11/18 for bypass. I’d like to check in with people as well. I’m looking forward to getting it over with and healing 😁
  24. Anyone else next week, I’m 11/9 for a bypass. Just looking to see if anyone wanted to be a little support group for each other, motivators for one another. I imagine it’s nice to converse with people at the same place in the journey :)
  25. Are you following up with your surgeon annually for blood work or do you see your primary care doctor? My surgeon has me coming in every 6 to 8 months (I am 20 months post bypass) for blood work and to have an in person appointment. I met my goal at 6 months, have maintained, don't have any issues so I am not sure if it's really necessary to see the surgeon. I would also assume I just need annual labs done at this point.
