Question for those who are doing intense exercise
Jachut replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it will probably work out over time, but I would be feeling uneasy about it too. As you condition your body, and gain muscle, your metabolism will probably take care of those extra calories. At the end of the day though, this is about health too and you're hardly stuffing yourself with rubbish - you're eating well and exercising. Logic would suggest that you simply wont get fatter from doing that. But you have to work out what suits your body too. I decided some months back that long hours of cardio were not what was going to get me to the really low weight I secretly wanted, I've backed off, doing way more strength training and REALLY making an effort to change my strong anti-high Protein beliefs. I've not lost any weight, in fact gained a pound or two and dont feel thinner. No, its not more muscle, I'm slightly puffier round the waist and tummy. I've given it a lot of thought and for MY body lots of cardio is what works. I do do strength training, I want to keep muscle on my body but without the long runs, I get fatter, end of story. I've readjusted my circuit style program to be a long run followed by a short sandbag session, and I feel better, fitter and thinner again. So you do need to listen to your body, and find what suits you, not necessary believe everything you google or are told by a trainer. the internet is a endless source of claims tht you can TORCH fat, burn MEGA fat in 20 minutes of interval training, my trainer says the same thing. I include intervals in my routine becuase they make me really fit, but experience has shown me that for me, long steady state cardio works the best and keeps me the trimmest. But it does take a few weeks or more to really see how something is working for you. -
Right on as always, gmanbat!!!! A pound of fat is about 3500 calories...I don't know about you guys, but I'm not consuming 3500 calories a day..or even three days! It doesn't make sense when you look at it rationally - You are eating so little food right now, probably less than 1000 calories. You're burning fat, I guarantee you are. Be patient - you're body's job is to make sure it functions properly. The only things you can control are what you put in your mouth and how much you exercise. Your body will take care of the rest...on it's time schedule.

Yesterday was 3 weeks since my surgery and I had my first post op appt today. All went well. I'm down a total of 44 lbs, 26 since surgery. I expressed my concern over the major reflux issues I've been having the last week. I did not have reflux issues at all pre surgery, except when I was pregnant with my twins. He told methat when people have reflux pre sleeve, the sleeve only makes it worse, so he won't sleeve them, only bypass. He said I was the first patient he's had to complain of reflux post, that didn't have it pre. Weird. He prescribed Prevacid. Hopefully it works. I'm dyin ova hea!

Hello there! I am new to the site and scheduled for surgery next week. I had a question and wanted to introduce myself first. I am really looking forward to the surgery and wanted to get some experiences from others on what to expect. I am not real familiar with the forum and I am thinking I need to go over to pre op and ask my question so I am headed there now! Hope to hear from someone. Have a great night!

They're recommending a fill after only 2 weeks? Here at the Pioneer Valley Surgical in Springfield, MA it's post op...6 weeks. I have mine done on July 26 and my first fill is scheduled Monday, Sept. 10.
-
Yes, once you start to get your fills you will definitely have restriction. I experienced the same thing a few weeks after my surgery once I got to mushies I had a full appetite. Now that I have gotten three fills I feel the restriction and I don't eat that much. Hang in there!

I am about 4 weeks out from a RNY, and I am so tired. I took 3 naps yesterday and 2 today so far. Is this normal? Some people say yes, some people say no. I did not get enough Protein for the 3 days before yesterday, but I did yesterday and today. How long do you think it will be before I perk up a bit? Also, I have been taking a B-12 liquid supplement, but is it possible that it has not been absorbing well? I have ordered sublingual B-12 from Celebrate and it should be here by Friday. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Feeling like I am regressing
KristenLe replied to tenseintexas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@tenseintexas Have you talked to your surgeon about this?? This isn't necessarily "normal" at 8 1/2 weeks out. You should be able to eat. Please call your surgeon - maybe you have something going on like a stricture or something. -

What To Expect? What Happened At Your First Lap Band Surgery Appointment?
KhadijahRose posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I met with my (hopefully-soon-to-be) surgeon at a seminar last week and made an appointment with him for this week. I found out that my insurance (United Healthcare: Choice Plus) will cover my surgery (Thank GOD!) and I turned in all my medical history and personal information regarding insurance to the surgeon the day of the seminar so I'm wondering...what's next? I'm super excited and very anxious to get a surgery date...how long did it take you after confirmation of payment through insurance? What did you talk about? What HAPPENS NEXT?!? Thanks for your input-

Advice from anyone please.
emilygrace replied to Lilla's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't had a band, but am now 9 weeks post sleeve and have lost a total of 23.5kg including preop diet. It has been a big decision, but one I am glad I made. It really changes everything about how I eat, and deal with food, which I underestimated preop. But that's what I needed. It has been a godsend. Finally, I know that I will make it to a normal weight and normal BMI. -
Doctor visit went well. I'm on puréed foods, and cleared for work tomorrow. I may end up doing half days, I've been tired all weekend, and having back pain from the stretching of my diaphragm. Doctor said to lie on my left side, and it helps some, but today was bad. But overall, I feel good, down to 211 from 231 the day of surgery.

How Quickly Can You Plateau? Only 3 Weeks Out?!!!
Creekimp13 replied to NatureLover888's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Having a little pause at three weeks is very common. It's important to follow your nutritionists instructions and eat well. Eating too few calories can actually stop you from losing weight because your body will go into starvation mode and actually conserve every calorie. Listen to your team and follow their instructions for the best results:) Good luck and best wishes. -

How Do You Take Pills Post Op?
traceyc replied to NJsharon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a pill crusher that basically turned my prevacid into a powder that I mixed into a spoonful of chocolate sugar free pudding. I didn't start swallowing it whole until week 3. My vitamins are chewable including a gummy vitamin D. My doctor said not to swallow any pills larger than my pinky fingernail. -
I was banded a little over a month ago and haven't yet had a fill, so my answers may change once I have. I do have a bit of restriction now, though. I have had some wine and a couple martinis since I was banded. My physician's office knows this and just said to do everything in moderation. I definitely drink less than I did prior to surgery, and I am thrilled with my loss so far, so I'm going to continue to enjoy life and have a drink once in a while or even some pizza. awhenry-- I had half a piece of thin crust pizza one evening and just ate it slowly and savored it...it went down fine, but, again, I don't have a fill. You can also consider making pizzas on whole wheat pita or a whole wheat tortilla after surgery. Again, this might not work for everyone, but if they are toasted and you chew and eat slowly, they should go down fine. I think it's thick, chewy crust that would give people problems. Some people completely avoid carbs, and I respect that and think they are amazing, but that's not me. I am a vegetarian and see the value in whole carbs, though I haven't had any "white" carbs since surgery. So far, I'm losing more than 2 pounds a week without a fill...if that stops, I'll cut out more carbs. I think the important thing is to always make sure you get all your Protein, whether you are eating carbs or not.

Hi I'm new and lost!
SoCalDixieGal replied to HollyMc63's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I"m also taking the week of surgery off and have blocked off the following week. Although I'm committed to a conference call. I have a desk job and can work from home quite a bit. I'll probably start having some business trips about 4 weeks post-surgery. As to telling people, I've only told a few people. Some had a similar initial reaction but then I explained all the pros/cons etc. After that I just told people that I'd hope they would be supportive but that I was doing this for me. One friend I know is leery but she's still supportive. -
i am currently 23yrs old, 5ft1inches tall and 188 pounds, i suffer from severe depression mostly concerning my weight. i am constantly ridiculed over it from from my family and boyfriends, for an example, a couple days ago my boyfriend went out and got me a little boys costume that was incredibly small on me and made me go out in public like that showing most all of my butt and stomach while his friend laughed at me, my family used to make me run laps around the house and put me on all kinds of different diets telling me i would be beautiful if i losed the weight. i get social security and have been going to counseling since i was very young because of it all. in my life ive tried every diet possible and used to run 4 to 5 times a week. i stopped taking my meds because it kept all my weight on, and ive tried diet pills for the last couple years and my back pain is seeming to get worse all the time. its been nearly impossible to lose weight and ive been running out of options. i was wondering if it would even be worth talking to my doctor about getting some sort of bariatric surgery done to see if that would help. this extra weight is more of a burden than i can deal with.. i also have medicare part a and b and medicaid.

It's possible to snap back quickly but don't forget that your insides are still healing and even if you don't feel it, it is. So, make sure to not lift anything heavier than 10 pounds and be careful but still keep walking. I assume you are no longer taking pain meds--that was the kicker for me. I couldn't drive until I stopped taking them but I stopped taking them the day I got home from the hospital and didn't really need them--in fact they made me nauseous. I went to work at a week and a half but I have a desk job so it is a bit easier.

Before surgery I would have one, then go months and months without a period, since surgery I have been having mine regular now, it might be a day or two off from the previous month, but it's always the last week of the month. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I found that I could drip a lot of fluids in one go early out... still can on an empty tummy... I wasn't worried because even at that stage I could still feel when I was full. If you can tolerate it and it doesn't cause you any problems, go with the flow as such!! Sorry bad pun... but seriously, it is important to be well hydrated, even more so in the first month to 6 weeks! keep up the good work! =]

Surgery Was `17th Went Fantastic
DebiC replied to Living again 11/17/2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look how much better you feel, and how much happier you are than you were yesterday. If the whole thing went as badly as the first two or three days I think we'd all regret it. I'm so glad that you are doing better. -
My date is the 18th also..So i wishing you luck. I'm ready for the change in my life I have beenover weight for 7 years now and it's time for me to take control.. So again GOOD LUCK next week

Had my surgery on july 8, 2014. I was a lapband to sleeve revise. (No issues with the band....simply tired of the inconsistencies) Highest weight before band: 334 Lowest weight with band: 243 Sleeve surgery day: 230 Not trying to focus on all negatives here because i am only 8 days out. Just providing insight to those pre-sleeved and looking to find similar stories like mine so far. --Ask for pain and nausea meds per IV PRIOR to waking up from surgery. I had a horrible experience because they failed to do this. --Take liquid meds if possible. Crushing pills are not tasteful in the least no matter what u mix them in. Don't learn the hard way and get a pill lodged the same day you come home and have to return to the ER!!!!!! Very painful and unpleasant. --Gas pains are real. Be prepared. I am 8 days out and still feel the aftermath of those bastards. --Don't get so discouraged if you feel hunger after surgery. I am one of the ones who doesn't feel hunger at all and i am having a horrible time getting in any amount of nutrition. In turn, i have absolutely NO ENERGY. And constantly out of breath. (keep in mind i am usually fairly active and can keep up with most anyone) this is very emotionally and physically draining. I don't want food and if i think i do...i am a half a bite in and i hate it and waste EVERYTHING put in front of me!!!!!! --Unless you have a desk job.... Take the time needed off of work. There is no way possible i would be able to return to work 8 days out. My job is fairly active and labor driven. I wouldn't make it an hour at this point. I would recommend 2-3 weeks minimal to those who are on their feet and moving a lot. --Have plenty of pillows for comfort. They are your friend. --Do not overload yourself with Protein powders before hand. I cant even stand the smell of protein much less the taste at this point. Buy it as needed and variety is key. --keep faith despite every hardship. Its a journey...... U can cry if you want to. Nothing worth having is ever easy. Good luck to all sleevers and revises!!!!!!!!
