Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
Bettyboop56 replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks. When I went to soft foods, measuring every thing to 1/2 cup. 1/3 cup protein, 1/8 cup veggie and 1/8 cup carb. I'm filling more satiety of food and this new life. Found Jenni ground turkey taco seasoned, scrambled eggs with turkey sausage patties diced. I have a few puree meals still frozen as backup if my new food not agreeing with me. But this is also a noticeable hunger that hasn't been there for last 6 weeks. -
@kelly jojo First few weeks, we are usually bloated. After surgery I gained over 10 lbs due to the IV. Your body is healing and adjusting. I was told not to take my weight too seriously until I was fully healed (6 to 8 weeks). Try to be patient and stick to your program. 3 lbs a week is actually good at your weight (10.5k calories less), that's 12 lbs in a month if continues at that rate. If losing 3 lbs a week is upsetting then beware of the infamous 3-week stall where you may not lose anything for a few weeks.

Feeling really discouraged. I had the vertical sleeve on 11-23 and I have only lost 6# in the first two weeks. I am only allowed to have protein drinks, cream of wheat and thin soup for another week. I have been getting my liquids in and about 45-60 grams of protein a day. I was 219 the day of the surgery. Has anyone lost so little the first two weeks and then had the weight start to come off? I am nervous I will be one of the few people that this doesn’t work for!

infection round two surgery 11/3 went to er 11/11 for infection that burst thought that it healed up- skin was skin colored, no heat, no hard knot under skin, white scar formed, area was concave.. until sunday….. became red, tender etc… got antibiotics on monday and took two doses; woke up this morning and saw my incision was breaking open subq with thin skin holding it back from bursting … went to my surgeons office and he was i. surgery but i tried to wait on him but it burst while waiting… (i luckily brought a tea towel and most of the infection was caught by it… soaked through and now in the trash). his nurse spent 30 mins cleaning and getting some of the yuck out then sent me to er where i got another ct with contrast, two rounds of antibiotics, potassium and fluids… sent home again and follow up later this week…. oh the joys that come with surgery -
33 mile ultra run complete
Recidivist replied to JAKE H's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Jake, that is so inspiring! I'm also 3.5 years out. While I'm "thin," I'm not fit, and I've decided that 2023 is the year I'm going to get to a gym to increase my core strength, stamina, and endurance. If you can run 33 miles, I can certainly drag myself to a gym several time a week. Thanks for posting! -
Did you ever figure out what was causing your nausea? I'm 5 weeks out and having similar issues as you. I'm worried this is related to GERD or an ulcer. I'm not on a ppi, only pepcid because i had some negative reactions to nexium in the past. However, i've been on pepcid so long, its lost almost all of its effect. I've asked to try a different ppi and they don't want to try that but I think I'm having major issues from it. Hoping you nausea resolved but curious how long it might have taken and what you think the issue was. I also don't find zofran helpful. Thanks. Laura

Want to get weight loss surgery but am not getting approved
shonna1989 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a long history with weight problems. By the age of ''4'' I was already 68 pounds despite having the diet of the typical child. By the time I was 15 I was in the 180's and eating honestly no different from my peers. By 17 I had joined a teen fitness group and failed to lose any weight what-so-ever. I resorted to starvation about a year later and by 19 I was 150 pounds and subsisting on 500 calories per day, taking diet pills and using tea laxatives. This lead to a cardiac issue which lead me into an Anorexia treatment center by 20. I cleaned up my act and began a ''healthy eating journey'' but sadly for me that resulted in a slow creeping weight gain of about 7-8 pounds per year. Sometime in 2014 I had reached ''180'' again and decided to join a gym. Worked out for months and lost nothing. I reduced my sugars, cut out processed food.. somehow I ended up weighing even more. I was 186 by the end of that year. By 2021 I was ''210'' pounds. My doctor weighed me. I was in shock. Literal shock.. could not even believe it because I was working with a nutritionist at the time and following through with everything. This last year I have worked out constantly, eaten no carbs and I am 208. I have only lost two pounds. I am nearly 33 year old and my weight has been a seemingly life long struggle and close to resistant to change unless extreme measures were taken (Anorexia). I am very disappointed with this. I have been tested for PCOS, Cushing's, NCCH etc many times and nothing showed up. I had severe acne (took accutane three times) and mild hirsutism as well but all blood tests come back normal, ultrasound reveal no cysts and I've gotten a monthly period since 13 years old. No doctor can explain this. I feel as though they do NOT believe me when I tell them what I eat. I just had an appointment with an endocrinologist and he said what I was telling him was ''impossible''. I have asked my doctor to refer me for weight loss surgery but at 210 pounds and 5'7 they just won't do it. I am at a loss. -
Hi, I also had GB and HH repair..along with esophagus repairs due to years of GERD. As mentioned above, at the hospital I was given the 1 oz. medicine cups and filled them up, taking tiny sips. Each cup was about 3 sips and I did this all day long keeping a tally of how many I drank. Each day I could drink a little more of a sip and soon 1 cup became 1 sip. I also made sure EVERY day that I beat the day befores numbers if even only by 1 oz. Broth, shakes, all liquid counted towards my liquid goal and if it had protein even better. I treated it like my own personal competition. By my 2 week follow up I was hitting the low end of my fluid goals. It got a little harder when I started on pureed foods, because my meals weren't liquid anymore. But I created quite a routine and after a few days I was back to hitting the liquid AND protein goal. I would wake up, drink 8oz of high protein milk (Fairlife-12 g protein) which also counted as 8 oz of fluid. Drink 16/20 oz water Drink a 12 oz shake (30 g protein) and 12 oz fluid Drink about 16 oz water Eat: usually egg salad or chicken salad, or ground turkey with taco seasoning all pureed, usually about 5-8g protein because I could eat so little. Drink a clear protein drink, I drank gatorade zero with protein (10 g protein) and 16 oz fluid Drink water until bed. This was and really still is my daily routine now but I can drink like normal and fast so I get about 100 oz of WATER a day and no longer count my shakes as fluid. It was slightly modified when I went back to work but basically wake up and drink a shake, then 3-4 bottle of water before lunch, lunch and 1-2 bottle of water before dinner and after dinner water (or sometimes a suagr free something like lemonade) up until bed. I still drink a shake for breakfast because I just cant eat enough to get in enough protein unless I literally eat all day and then I feel full and bloated all day. You just have to find a schedule that works for you, but either way it takes time to ease back into it. Just don't get dehydrated. Focus on fluids first and then work on protein, at lease that is what my team instructed. Good luck, we are all rooting for you!

Hello everyone, had my 1st meal outside of liquid, not sure why I chose chili aside from my team saying we could have it. I took my sweet time eating it (about 40 minutes), chewing one bean 50 times and checking my body for signals, I added 2 oz of broth to thin it out and dilute the spices. I was able to have 1oz when I got a hiccup and since that is one of the full signals, I stopped immediately. I'm monitoring myself like crazy to check for anything out of sorts, but I will skip it for a few meals to try things maybe with a little less spice. Hope everyone is having a great start of their weeks! -

help my husband lol

Anything, small gifts. Gift cards. A t shirt, socks, hair ties. I usually try to find something interesting or unusual , like a small desk calendar with daily useless facts or something like that. Snacks other than candy, like protein stuff. (beef jerky, protein puffs, shake sample packets) Possibilities are endless, tell him to get creative and think outside of the box. PS: For 19 years I have been with my spouse and I ALWAYS got a big bag of starburst. Last year I asked for sugar free treats instead of them to try out before my surgery. I hated 99% of them, I would rather go without. This year, I said I wanted starburst again! lol But, a small sleeve like you get at the gas station. I can eat 1 or 2 and be good for days or weeks without another one, so I would rather just enjoy them once in a while then not at all or to bother with the sugar free stuff. (I do good with sugars so I don't mind having a treat every once in a while) -
One year, 2 months, and 2 weeks 114.5lbs 64 inches Pant size 22 to 8/9 Shirt size 2xl to M I have been trying to lose weight, quite literally, my entire life. My earliest memories are of being uncomfortable, knowing I was in a bigger body than I "should" have been. I tried and failed at every diet, and consulted with 3 other surgeons over the course of a decade before I finally committed and had surgery. I went to therapy, read the books, stuck to the plan, fell off the plan. got back on, cried, rejoiced, and everything in between. And today, I hit my "goal" weight. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't elated to see that long desired number. It was overwhelming and thrilling. But truly, even more than any number, is the life I've gained, the love for myself that I've learned to cultivate, the life changing decision to care for myself well and no longer allow myself to be at war with this one precious body I have. As so many WLS patients say, I just wish I had done it sooner. I'm rooting for each and everyone of you as well. 💓

Hello I am 8 weeks out from RNY, but I feel this is relevant to all of our journeys.. My husband asked me what can he put in my stocking for christmas this year as candy is off limits. I suggested he can get a couple of sugar free candies but asked he send me the nutrition labels before buying... i have seen a lot of people mention chapstick but I honestly keep up with mine and don't need a ton of chapstick. i bought myself resistance bands last week and I am thinking about giving them to him to let him put them in. For his stocking he has a level ruler pencil thing, heated motorcyle gloves, and candy. Our son has a new tervis water bottle that snaps sealed, candy, and some bath stuff.

Great tips! I think it may be a combination of both types of hunger. I have an appointment next week & will discuss with my dietician how I can appropriately satisfy these cravings! Thank you!

1 week post op & HUNGRY ! Help!
KimA-GA replied to AXR313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
head hunger can be a lot of the hunger you few early on… take the opportunity to make sure you are getting good nutrition and protein/fluids.. we are so used to chewing and eating three or more times a day it’s a bit of a mental trip to suddenly not… takes a while to adapt to your new realities (i am still adapting) -

My surgery was Oct 19 and almost through soft foods. I still measure every meal. I have a 14 oz glass that I goal to drink 4 of. Try to eat every 2 hours. One protein shake a day. Just getting my energy back. Dec 13 I go to any food. Will skip steak bread for a.year. try one food a day. So far only had fast heart rate the second week. Spices don't bother me. Found ground turkey (Jenni) taco or Italian flavored, turkey sausage and looking forward to turkey bacon. 93% ground beef is treating me fine. Eating 1/2 cup, measured each meal, 5x day. Take the container when I eat out. I have a card party at Denny and Perkins. Omelet, tomato soup. Will continue with protein shake for the first year to maintain protein until I get to 1 cup. -

I did a year of Noom the year before surgery. Lost 30#, 80% low carb and small portions. 20% was eat the hell you want but small portions. You need to feel satiety. So 2 meals a week it is free game. -

Protein Intake
Bettyboop56 replied to Dianne Bradshaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 weeks post surgery. I swear by fairlite protein drinks. 30g protein or Muscle milk has a 40g. I plan to drink them for the whole year. I set a 15 minute timer on my phone and drank 1 oz water. Found room temperature was best not cold. I found sugarless skittles flavoring for water. Green apple and grape are great. I drank my protein drink 1 ounce an hour.
