I am having trouble figuring out when I am full. I am just about three weeks out and I just started soft foods. I am eating about 3 onces a meal but I feel like I am overeating. I eat the 3 ounces but I keep feeling overly full like I ate to much and I get a weird feeling overly full and I have this indigestion feeling in my throat. Am I eating to fast? how do you know when you are full?

Sleeved 4/11---Back To Work Today
Who's That Girl replied to waistnaway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! you're back already. I was sleeved on 4/10 and have my 1 week follow up visit tomorrow. also transitioning to soft foods. Can't wait to have something with texture - refried beans never sounded so good! -
My team said no alcohol for the first year. There were three reasons for this: 1) Liver failure. Your body burns fat very quickly during the first year releasing toxins stored in the fat into your system. Your liver is working very hard during this time to filter these out. Adding alcohol during this time period can overwork your liver, causing liver failure (resulting in at least one recent death for my program). 2) Cross addiction or transfer addiction. Many of us are addicted to various foods and need to practice and learn new coping skills while we are losing weight so we can keep the weight off for life. The statistics are pretty high for alcoholism, drug addiction, and other less common addictions (gambling, shopping, sex) for weight loss surgery patients. These statistics are equally as high for people who never indulged in these things pre op as they are for those who did. We need to learn and practice coping skills to avoid falling into the trap of new addictions. 3) Quick and easy intoxication. We get tipsy faster on less. There are plenty of reasons why this could be bad. Driving would be dangerous. You could end up in dangerous situations when quickly intoxicated. Or you could have poor judgment about what you put in your mouth while intoxicated. I tend to want to eat when tipsy. If I did that in the early stages I'd probably have had a lot more of those painful stuck food or vomiting episodes from eating too much, too fast, wrong foods, and not chewing. I have wine now at 14 months out. 4oz hits me hard and can make me slur my words and be unsteady on my feet. I only drink alcohol at home now, never in public (I like my Saturday night glass of wine - my indulgence after a long week). Mainly because I'd be embarrassed to seem so drunk in public and driving home would be very unwise. These three reasons were stressed and drilled into me over and over and over pre op and post op during support group meetings. I second all of these reasons 100% especially the addiction and quick to get tipsy, you can add it in but you just need to make sure you are monitoring it very closely to avoid these common problems.

Was supposed to have my surgery 3 days from now on Monday 8/12/19. Found out this morning that my TSH thyroid levels are 4.5 so my insurance is asking for additional info & follow up from my PCP. At 1st I was upset but now I feel a little relieved. My pre-op hasn’t been going as restrictive as I’d like & I can do better. Might as well be as healthy going into this as possible. Rescheduled 1 week for 8/19/19

Just wondering what work best for you? I'm swimming laps and also am walking/jogging six days a week for at least 60 minutes. What do you think worked best to tone your legs???

GOOD FOR YOU GIRL! My daughter had the sleeve and her surgeon told her that the band had a high failure rate. Well, my daughter came in with a gain 6 weeks after her sleeve surgery. She was eating chips, cookies, etc. I had the band and yes I account for what I eat and log my calories on my fitness pal. My daughter does not do that and her nutritionist said she needed to be careful that she has to start eating sensibly and not to eat chips. I am so glad you chose the band. Btw, the sleeve cannot be reversed but at least the band can be reversed if medically necessary. Good luck to you!

Well, my experience has been a little different. I'm 6 days post today. I had a complication in surgery which I think has made my soreness worse. Otherwise, I never had nausea or vomiting and was able to get fluids and proteins in off the bat. Stopped pain meds 2 days post, but that twinge on the left it still ouchie. I've been pretty tired, but plan to go out to walk around the dreaded Walmart today because I need OUT!!! This morning I woke up with a bit of nausea and just kind of a crappy feeling. Hoping it passes. Have a feeling like something is sitting in the bottom of my esophagus. Overall I'm pretty pleased with my progress but I am glad I took an extra week off work. I think I need that adjustment time.

Surgery Date after Insurance Approval
Butterfly66 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am anticipating insurance approval in the next week. How long after approval was your surgery scheduled? I have already started my two week liquid diet in anticipation so that should speed up the process. Just curious. Thanks. Christi -
Over this preop diet
Sherry Richardson replied to Emily Jane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a week out from surgery and I started my pre-OP diet today. I get nothing but clear liquids and broth for the next 7 days. If I make it through this I can do anything. -
Umm.. I love tofu and dry fry it every couple of weeks and eat it as a snack.. No problems. I'm not sure why some would have problems with it other than eating it to soon after surgery?
-
For my pre op diet the dr is telling me it's only one week of high protein no carbs... Does that sound right?

So 3 weeks ago I started my diet for my surgery this Friday I have lost 15 lbs. not too bad.

Any Of You Girls...
emily_0192010 replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not lose?? That would be wonderful... I gain... like 10 lbs. It goes away after, but still... it sucks!! Anyways, yes, it is completely normal. It also sometimes affects my weight the week before as well. -
Yeah, I read somewhere that since your hormones go on break for that week, it's harder to see weight loss. But as soon as they start pumping again around day 4-7 (every woman is different), it should pick back up. I really wish I knew more about the chemical breakdown of hormones in the body and why that happens! Sucks to be a woman sometimes.

JustWatchMe replied to beced's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I win! Six weeks full liquids here!!!!!! LOL, I guess that WAS unusual. Glad it's behind me. -
I was banded yesterday. I got to the hospital at 7:30 for a 9:30 surgery but they didn't start until around 10:00. I was home resting by 4:30. The pain is not as bad as I thought it would be. I slept half the night in a recliner and the other half in my bed. I was sent home with a OnQ med pump. It is basically a numbing medicine and a script for Ultram. I am walking a lot. I also had ahernia repair. That is where most of the discomfort is coming from. My pre-op diet consisted of 3 Protein shakes and Water for 2 weeks. I lost 32 lb doing that - which shocked me. I can start eating soft foods today and can have only that for the next 2 weeks until my follow-up appt. I am hoping the hardest is over with. Becky

How long did it take to get surgery scheduled once insurance was approved?
ShrinkingPeach replied to jobillandjosh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was scheduled within two weeks once insurance approved. I had to do a two week pre-op diet or it probably would have been sooner. -

It took a little over three weeks for me. And then I had to wait another month for the actual surgery. -

Hello everyone! Here is my story as to how I got here and why I am a Sleever! When I was a young girl I was always a little plump or chubby. I knew that I was because anytime I would go shopping with my mom and I was in the change room I would hear her say to the sales lady " she is a little chunky so this one might not fit so could you get a size up please..." or "hunny you cant buy those shoes because they are way to narrow for your wide feet" etc Yes she was right no matter how much i weighed my feet were and are wide however this was a crutch in my awareness of body image. I attended a catholic school for most of my life and I remember being a very impressionable child praying to God to make me skinny one day. These are definitely memories that I would love to forget but they are ever present in my mind. I stayed miserably plump until I went into high school. Now, I must say that I started to sneak Snacks here and there because i wanted those snacks so badly... I dont think my parents ever knew that. But even with the snacking I was a VERY active kid. I played soccer in the summer and I was always outside with my friends. When I hit High School age I started playing Hockey in the winters and took up Rugby, Soccer and Golf when it was warmer. I slowly lost my "baby weight" and during my high school years i bounced between 130lbs and 150lbs. After graduating from High School I was in a very serious relationship with my now husband and became "comfortable" as most would put it. My highly active lifestyle came to a stand still. I no longer had the time or money to play so many different sports and as a consequence the weight began to pile on pound after pound. Every single time that I would come home to visit my parents my mom would mention to me that she noticed i gained more weight since last time she had seen me.. this always bothered me but you can not silence a lion! As my second year progressed I was climbing the scales and reaching the 200lb mark quickly. During that year my hubby proposed to me and thats when the comments about my weight increased from my mom. She would tell me that if I did not lose weight that my DH would find more attractive women else where and cheat on me ... I was hurt and argued but I couldnt help fearing that there was some truth to it. By my third year of University I decided to join Herbal Magic (a weightloss company that gives u supplements to curb appetite while following their eating plan) and when I began that program I was up to 212lbs. over all i lost a little over 40 lbs and was feeling great. My DH and I got married the following May and I was about 175lbs on my wedding day. Although i felt accomplished I could not afford to keep up with the purchasing of the supplements (225$/month) especially because we were living on student part time wages. So, unfortunately slowly but surely the weight crept back on and there I was back to 214lbs!!! I felt like a total failure! I tried doing the Atkins diet but never lost a lb it was terrible feeling, working so hard and not seeing any results. My DH and i started running every morning before work and I still didnt see any results... I finally threw in the towel because i thought this is where my body wanted me to be. BUT I want to follow my dream of becoming a pilot for the Air Force, So i really took working out seriously but never saw the results i wanted to see. I grew up in a military household where both parents were in the forces... so working out was always hard core every time. THEN!!! I discovered information about the VSG and was obsessed with research and finding out how i could make this possible! I made the necessary adjustments in order to get financing for my sleeve and there I was on Oct 1, 2010 in Tijuana getting my sleeve!!! Its been 7 weeks tomorrow since surgery and as of last friday when i last weighed myself I have lost 30 lbs!!! Im at 184lbs, but Im weighing myself tomorrow to see where I am at the 7 week mark! I was very lucky to have found this option so early in my life! i have had no negative side effects from the surgery.. not one day of nausea or acid reflux. I feel great!!! I cant wait to Celebrate my 23rd birthday in June a totally new person... by then I hope to be in Basic Training so that i can become an officer in the military!! thanks for listening! Jackie
