  1. I think I would approach him that in your education on the set stages of eating that bacon would be week 7 or 8. That you are concerned about his health but would not be supportive when he gets dumping or complications.

    Weight regain

    I have added taco and Italian ground turkey, turkey bacon and patties with 93% ground beef. Chickpea noodles. So making smart food choices back into my diet. I'm post op 7 weeks and have lost 40#. In a stall now but plan on more exercise in January.

    Carbs yes or no

    Many that have gained weight back said is was due to eating bread again. I am using chickpea spaghetti noodles. I also make sugar free pudding with dry powdered milk, high in protein, when I need a treat. I'm 7 week out and will try brown rice soon. Most new trialed foods have gone well but only 1/8 cup as part of 1/2 cup portion meals. I have tried some higher fats with no problem. But will abstain from high sugar and not experience dumping for as long as possible.
  4. I'm on Batiatric Advantage enhanced berry chews and Carmel Calcium chews. The Carmel is a great treat3x a day and 2 hours apart from multivitamin. I did Multi 2 weeks after surgery and Calcium when I got on puree.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    I am just stuck. I did get to 262 on the home scale, but I'm still hovering at around 265. I can't seem to get this moving again. Fighting cravings again. And, while I am still hitting my walking and gym 4 days per week, I just can't seem to break into 250s. It's just a wee bit frustrating. I'm going to need to change something up.

    I did it!!! I lost 100 pounds!!!!

    I do a modified keto. My surgeon said to do 60-80g of protein everyday, less than 50g of fat, less than 50g of carbs, and little to no sugar. I do all of that except I chose to limit my carbs to 25 or less per day and I typically do 70-90g of fats (healthy, like avocado, not a lot of bacon and sausage and all that). I also severely limit my salt. I told my surgeon, and at first he wasn't too happy about it. But I've lost 103 pounds in almost 7 1/2 months, my cholesterol and bp are perfect, I'm no longer diabetic. So he said as long as I'm doing good and my numbers stay good, he's ok with it. I'm no longer on my bp pill, my 3 diabetic meds, or my Celebrex (really strong anti-inflammatory). I'm now able to work out 5-6 days per week and I have my full mobility back without my cane (I needed a cane at my heaviest weight).

    Struggling

    I’m at 1 week post op and on purées. I’m finding my cramps are absolutely unbearable! I am so hungry! But I am super active and nothing is cutting my need to eat. I am so frustrated because I truly have no clue what my body is telling me it needs or wants. But I can tell you I know when I let the desire of my eating before, win out…I pay for the entire day! I think I am going back to the liquid stage for a day or two and then going to progress a little at a time! We all got this! I hate journaling, but I am finding the necessity of it too!
  9. I would have said groceries…but the food I eat, along with protein supplements, is better quality and more expensive. Restaurants: there’s the savings! The one day a week we eat out, my meal costs half of what it used to.

    Body Scale

    I bought a new one recently because my old one died. I bought a weight watchers scale. Mid price of their range. It does a lot of things like measures your fat, bone density, water. I just use it for my weight. Can’t be bothered to set the personalised report function. I weigh a couple of times a week now just to keep myself honest & on track.
  11. Not every one reaches their goal weight. The average is a loss of about 65% of the weight you have to lose to be in a healthy range at around the three year mark for sleeve or bypass. This takes in the common 3rd year regain, compliance, lifestyle, etc. of course some exceed this & some don’t reach it. Love it or hate it BMI can be a good guide or starting point. If you’ve a larger frame look to the higher end of your BMI range. A small frame then the lower end of the range. Medications, age, general health, etc. can all influence what a healthy weight is for you as well the weight you feel most comfortable. Then there is your body’s new set point - a gift of the surgery. This is the weight your body is happiest at. It may not be the weight you wanted but it will be a weight that will be easier to maintain. I chose a weight which had been the weight I’d be able to get down to in the past (always bounced between 60-75 kgs) & my surgeon agreed it was an appropriate & realistic goal (interestingly it would have been 75% of what I did lose). My body had a different idea & I lost more. My set point put me at a weight lower than my goal. For years I was told I had a larger frame. But when the weight went the truth was I have a smaller frame & my lower weight is fine for me. I haven’t had any skin removal because I felt I didn’t have that much & it wouldn’t be worth the surgery, recovery & scaring. But that’s me. They’d probably remove less than 1kilogram of lose skin from all over my body.
  12. I picked mine as the weight I'd been at various times in my adult life and had been happy with. Turns out my body had slightly different plans - am going with it as far as I can. Happy to lose a *little* more to provide a buffer for regain somewhere down the line. Twice in the last week people close to me have told me I don't "need" to lose any more weight. Pi**es me off mightily that folks need to comment in that way. My BMI is now within the 'normal' range. Who would say that to anyone else ever?

    When to stop...

    Do you stop eating when you feel your restriction kick in or do you try to stop before you feel it? By waiting for the restriction to quit eating, will you stretch your pouch out? How do you know when to stop before you hit your restriction? Is there signs or do you just eat a certain amount and quit? I'm only 5ish weeks out and still on purees.     How long to reach goal weight?

    My loss has definitely slowed. I'm 15 months out now, and noticed it really throttle back around 9 months but it still hasn't completely stopped. I reached "goal" a week ago - having lost 115lbs; I suspect the loss will stop completely here soon, which I'm fine with. Its important to remember that success isn't measured by whether or not your hit your "goal" weight, but rather by how much of your excess weight you're able to lose and maintain. So for example, based on BMI if you have 120lbs to lose to get to a "healthy" weight, then you can expect to lose AROUND 78lbs (65%) of that excess weight. (We all know BMI is an awful measure, but its the current standard). That varies from 60-80% from person to person, and you should expect some amount of regain in the years immediately following. Most surgeons consider LONG TERM success to be a loss of 50% of your excess weight after 5 years. So, all that to say, you are right where you need to be. Keep to your plan, and give it time. Goal weights are helpful, but they aren't the end-all-be-all measure of success. You're already a success!

    I had my sleeve on 11/7. During the strict 2 week preop stage, I was utterly exhausted. My first 5-7 days after surgery I was miserable so my fatigue was the last of my worries. Then I felt fine and had my energy to do normal cleaning and errands. However, I tried the treadmill and after 5 mins I was worn out (I used to walk 3 miles daily pre-surgery). However, this last week, I've been exhausted to the point I have to sit and take a break while cleaning or even showering. I'm not sure why. My bairatric team strongly encourages walking still and will expect regular routine exercising after I get clearance. It's just so difficult to even get normal tasks done without the extra walking.   18. I am 5 weeks post op from gastric bypass. I had surgery November 7th. I have read that lots of people have so much energy but I'm not feeling it. In the last week or so, I have wanted to take a nap most afternoons. Is this normal or am I missing something? I was really looking forward to feeling more motivated to move and do things. TIA!

    old habits

    Can you physically remove the temptations? I know it’s not always easy if you live with other people who don’t follow your food requirements, but if you can, keep the demon’s food out of the house. Get rid of anything you have that you don’t want to be tempted to eat. Donate it to a food bank. Anything you can’t donate (e.g., perishable food like baked goods), it will usually disappear pretty quickly if you leave it in the break room at work. Grocery pickup/delivery is a game-changer (I’m a big fan of Walmart Plus, but a lot of stores offer this type of service). I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve set foot in a grocery store in the past year. I have a saved list of my standard weekly grocery items (mainly fresh and frozen produce, meat, and fish), and anything else I need, I just add to my cart ad hoc throughout the week. I never have to look at the demon’s foods. I don’t have to walk through the bakery aisle and smell the cakes and donuts, I don’t have to walk through the cookie aisle and see the new Oreo flavors. I don’t have to resist temptation every time I go in the pantry because I have nothing that I shouldn’t be eating, I do have healthy(ish) treats that I eat every day so I don’t feel deprived. (Yes, I eat a lot of artificially sweetened foods. Maybe not the “healthiest” choices on earth, but the perfect is the enemy of the good.)

    December surgery

    Mines on the 14th. I'm so super excited. Been on liquids for about a week. My dr doesn't require that long but I don't want any problems. Tomorrow is water day then surgery. Woo hoo!!! I'm sooo happy for you as well. Good luck to you!!!

    Lapband to Gastric Bypass after 12 years with band

    I’d be afraid that if your surgeon wasn’t supportive 12yrs ago that they won’t be supportive now. Criticising you for gaining weight 1week post surgery is appalling. When they do the surgery, they pump you full of gas so they can see the surgical field & they pump you full of fluid to keep you hydrated afterwards. It’s very common for people to weigh more when they come out of hospital than they did when they went in. Many are advised not to weigh themselves for at least a week post surgery because of this. Maybe look into another surgeon if you’re able. Also find out if you really have PCOS or not so you know if that needs to be managed & supported. Weight loss surgery will improve insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome & other comorbidities. There are numerous people on this forum who had these conditions & PCOS before surgery. It seems those with PCOS do tend to lose more slowly. But I’m sure some will share their experiences. My doctor used to check my thyroid (there is a family history) often but it was always fine too. I often skipped meals & did it from my teenage years through to my early 50s. So my metabolism was crap - I’d struggle to lose weight eating less than 900 calories. Plus I think hormones were a contributing factor as well - my weight issues began at puberty & worsened with menopause. The surgery boosted my metabolism & evened put some of my hormones. Ask your surgeon lots of questions about how the surgery may work for you & what you may expect with your existing conditions. Even ask for stats about his patients. Then when you will feel more confident about your decision.
  23. Hellooooooooooo. I'm Jacquie. I'm getting a gastric sleeve on the 21st. I've been cautiously researching stuff. Quick sidebar-I had a double mastectomy a few years ago thanks to a cancer scare, and I didn't know about the "drains" until a week before I got the surgery. Had I known earlier, there's no way I would have gone through with it and I probably wouldn't be here today. Anyway , in the interest of not scaring myself out of this, I'm wondering if someone could explain the "restriction" thing, bearing in mind that if it's too gross I will have nightmares. Thanks!

It might seem small, but for those of your customers who are not public with our surgery choice, this can be revealing, embarrassing, and could even lead to our health information inadvertently shared. Would you please consider changing the return label to the old “BP Store” label? Most of the products I get from your store can be purchased from other places, and I may need to consider this to protect my health information. Thanks for your consideration!

    December surgery

    My doc is hard nosed. My BMI is under 40. 1 week of full liquids starting tomorrow followed by 1 week of clear liquids. I'm sad. Cooked dinner tonight and told my husband that it was all broth for dinner from now on. lol
