    Sleeve to RNY

Today weigh in is 172. The post op diet helps to lose so this hasn’t been so bad. I did re-gain (my own choice) to the 160 area and took it a little over when I knew I was getting the revision. So I am 8+ lbs less than my original weight pre surgery and 17 lbs down in 3 weeks from when I left the hospital. I don’t thinks that’s too bad. My worries are at ease because I don’t see the 140 happening anytime soon. Lots of my loss has been fluid and the rest I took on due to being afraid to look sickly again.
  2. good suggestion. I can't modify my original post to request this info, so i'll look up each person's profile and input what it says the type of surgery they had. Not everyone fills this in, so we'll do with what info we have. Also, for those with revisions, only their latest surgery will be noted as it will start to get hairy if i have to cross-reference exactly WHEN they had thier revision...

    DS Buddies Wanted - 26 Y/O

I understand the pain of trying to find a surgeon! I've been trying for the last two years to find a surgeon that would even touch me because I'm not actually having the DS done for weight loss (Although that is a really amazing benefit of it) I had a Nissen fundoplication done in 2005 that has failed and no surgeon wants to revise another's work here locally, so I'm going back and forth 5.5 hours each way to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. So I have a huge learning curve as this wasn't even something I thought was an option until my doctor told me it was his plan to fix me so that I'd have a chance at normalcy again. I'm just looking forward to being able to eat something with flavor. Everything gives me heartburn at this point (including certain brands of bottled water) it's nuts. I basically eat potato soup every day because I know it's something I can handle. I'm hopeful as we get closer and I learn more. But I have also come to the conclusion that some of this will just be embracing the suck.
  4. I had a full RNY revision from VSG due to reflux and a hiatal hernia and it really helped me! I wish I had just had the RNY from the start. So happy I had the revision!
  5. Full broad revision. Helped tremendously. No more burning throat (silent reflux), and I never wake up in the middle of the night with acid burning up to my nose.
  6. My doctor is recommended I have a bypass revision done (currently 5 years put on my sleeve) as I have severe GERD and weight gain. For those that have had this done….. which bypass did they do? Full ? Mini? Or? and did it help? Thanks in advance.

Lap Band: Am I Crazy to Consider It?

If you won't consider GS or DS, why not bypass? I got the sleeve and had A LOT of complications. I just got a revision from sleeve to bypass on June 28th, so there ARE things that can be done for the sleeve if there's an issue. Why is the bypass off the table?
  8. I put off revision for gerd for many years. I'm so sorry I waited so long. I did so much damage. I feel so much better now. I'm sorry you are having a hard time this time around. But as others said, for some, it is very normal to have a difficult beginning but yours was exacerbated by a blockage.[emoji22] I think you made the right choice and had to get rid of the severe reflux and gerd. You will, with time, live a much more normal and painless life. Hang in there.
  9. I would avoid gastric sleeve simply because post operative GERD is very common afterward. I had never had any type of reflux until after my sleeve. I eventually had a revision from sleeve to bypass and it helped. I wanted to ask you about esophageal spasms and nutcracker esophagus. I’m in the process of having a diagnosis determined for the pain I have when I eat anything with any kind of texture or “substance” to it. This has been going on for about 9 months (following my sleeve to bypass revision.) I also have esophageal spasms that hurt so bad I feel like I’m going to pass out. Does any of this sound familiar to you and how long did it take for you to be diagnosed? Are you taking any medications that help? Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated!!!
  10. Hey we are surgery buddies. I did my revision from sleeve to bypass on the 28th after regaining all the weight plus a little bonus. Hoping for a better this time around. All the best!

    Is V8 Ok

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to resurrect it because I just had my revision from sleeve to bypass 4 days ago and I'm drinking regular low sodium v8 (not the fusion) and it's been totally fine. Tastes great and it's a super good way to get in veggies when you're not allowed to have them yet. I noticed the consistency of it didn't bother me at all. Just wanted to put this out there, in case anyone else was wondering.
  12. First of all let me say thank you. This is my second time around I had gastric sleeve in 2012 which was very successful I lost over 200 pounds and have kept most of it off. Because of GERD and severe reflux issues, I had an hitial hernia repair and revision from gastric sleeve to bypass. I am little over one week out and I am struggling. I have to be readmitted to the hospital for blockage in my small intestine because of swelling. I just don’t remember the first surgery being this hard. I am in phase two which is puréed foods and I am regretting my decision please help. Does it get easier I feel so restricte!!
  13. Congratulations @BypassDiva2023. I’m so glad you’ve finally had your revision surgery. Praying for a much smoother journey for you this time. NSAIDS are always on the forever no list post surgery. However, some surgeons do allow their use after a period of time with a sleeve which may be why you are surprised with the instruction with your bypass. My surgeon allowed me to have them after two years because I didn’t take them regularly but he still gave me strict instructions: half dose & not consecutive days. The swallowing pill advice seems to be varied across surgeons & surgeries. Did the same surgeon do your bypass as sleeve? Maybe they’re treading more carefully because of your history.
  14. I wasn't to take anti-inflamatories for the first few months because it's a stomach irritant, and with my GERD and propensity to develop stomach ulcers, that would have increased the risk of things getting stirred up. However it wasn't a "never again" thing. I take them now. I'd ask your team why they've permanently taken them off the table for you. As for swallowing pills - yeah, post-surgery seems to have permanently made it unpleasant. Never bothered me before, but now I avoid large tablets if there's a smaller option. I also opt for whatever chewable supplements I can get. I still have some I must swallow, so I just go slow. Can't speak for the revision weight-loss rate, but I hope all goes well for you now! You've certainly earned it!

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.

I had the sleeve and loved it.....until I didn't. I lost 116 pounds in 10 months. I was working out 5 days per week. I was doing weight training, core and strength training, and cardio. THEN I started having major GERD symptoms. They were insane. I was put on 80mg of Nexium daily and still had break through GERD. Also has gastritis and esophagitis. 4 endoscopies and 1 colonoscopy later (and upwards of 30 polyps removed) I was scheduled for my revision from sleeve to bypass. I just had it done on the 28th. And while the recovery SUCKS majorly, I know once I'm past this, I'll have my life back. Oh, and I never had any reflux or GERD before, which is why I chose the sleeve to begin with.
  16. And I have a couple of questions. Why are we not allowed to have any kind of anti-inflammatories? I was told never again. I can't even take turmeric. Also, were you ever able to take pills comfortably? I was told no pills for the first 8 weeks (except for 2 of my MS meds because they can't be opened or crushed and don't come in liquid form) and I absolutely struggle with those 2 pills. They're hard to swallow and they hurt. Will it always be this way? And finally, I know there's a lot of different answers for this, but I just want to get a general idea. How much weight did you lose if you had a revision to bypass? My surgeon said I could expect to lose about 60 pounds (but he also said I stay really strict with my diet and exercise so I could actually lose 70 or so, since I lost more with the sleeve than he initially thought I would) so I'm just trying to see if it's realistic to think that I could lose 60-70 pounds in a year if I stick to the diet and working out.

    Curious About Post-Op Days

The first 2 weeks after my sleeve, I had a lot of pain, difficulty walking, and I was constipated. I'm now on the other side of my revision from sleeve to bypass, and I have........... a lot of pain and difficulty walking. Not sure if I'm constipated again or not. It's been 2 days since my surgery, tho, and I haven't gone yet. So probably.
  18. weight loss after revision is almost always slower than after a virgin surgery, but it can be done. You just have to really work at it..
  19. I just had the sleeve revision to gastric bypass on 6/13/23 and I am a little nervous now after reading a lot of these posts regarding the lack of weight loss.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Well, today is the day. SURGERY DAY. It's more complicated than when I had the gastric sleeve because not only are they doing a revision from sleeve to bypass, they are removing my entire lower and mid stomach (the part that is bypassed) because that's where all my polyps develop. It's a 2 hour surgery, and I was told I'll be in recovery for about an hour after. It's like having 2 bariatric surgeries in 1, so the recovery/healing/down time will be worse than my original surgery. I'll be in the hospital for 2 nights, so I'll be home sometime on Friday the 30th. That sucks, and is really annoying (I hate hospitals) but I know it's necessary and will be worth it. I can't wait to get my life back. Working out, feeling good, no more in and out of the hospital, being ME again. This has been a looooong road, but I'm finally almost at the finish line. It's gonna be awesome when I hit my weight loss goal (I'm 70 pounds away and speaking it into existence now that THIS TIME NEXT YEAR I will be at my goal weight). So wish me luck, and I'll see ya'll on the flip side

    New obesity meds in progress

Incretins like GLP-1, GIP, DPP-4 were isolated in the 1980s, these mimetic have been in trials since the 1990s and received FDA approval in the early 2000s for the treatment of Diabetes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6497767/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5707151/#:~:text=First in man studies reported,36)amide in human subjects. What’s new is the technology (delivery, longevity, combination), indications for obesity, insulin resistant, metabolic dysfunction, cardiovascular issues, PCOS and even addiction. The consensus is that these medications are long term. No need to worry about what happens if they go off of them because they are intended to be a life long commitment for most (but so is WLS). https://dom-pubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/dom.14496 As far as support with lifestyle, Wegovy (FDA approved for obesity) offers a support program https://www.wegovy.com/coverage-and-savings/get-wegotogether-support.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh6Tc2Ynm_wIV1TjUAR3YdgGuEAAYASADEgLARfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Also Weight watchers just bought one of the biggest telehealth prescribers of this class of medications https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/weightwatchers-buys-telehealth-platform-sequence-ozempic-wegovy-rcna73753 I’m all for new tech and there hasn’t been any major breakthroughs in the management of obesity that works this well since WLS. Many candidates for WLS may never pursue it, also many WLS patients battling regain may not be eligible for revisions. The access to a pharmacological route that works is an amazing step in the right direction and I’m absolutely on board with the advancement of the science in this field.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Hi all! I had surgery on 6/13 sleeve to bypass revision. I was struggling with the liquid diet and I had some fish (cod & salmon) in small portions but only 10/11 days post op. I feel an aching pain in my left side all of a sudden but am passing stool so I dont think a blockage. I didnt lose any weight on my 2 week marker, I remained the same. Did I damage something? Also having a hard time knowing when I am full. Good luck to everyone out there

Can I start taking Ibuprofen again ?

When I had my sleeve done, I was told nothing but Tylenol for the first 8 weeks, then after that, only as needed and not everyday. Now that I'm about to have my revision from sleeve to bypass, I was told never again. Only Tylenol from here on out. No Ibuprofen, no Aspirin, nothing.
  25. My second time was also harder even though I knew what to expect. But before you know it, you will be 6 months post-revision. Hang in there.
