  1. i went into best buy this morning looking for a new television since my wanna be hip father try to play wii for the first time today and u can guess it, broke my TV:scared2: ugh parents. :tt2:He is on a strict PUNISHMENT LOL. well anyways while i was there i found this book KITCHEN SURVIVAL GUIDE COOK THIS NOT THAT I find it to be very informational, the first chapters tells you what type of pots and pans you need, and it also explain what type utensils you need and all the above mentions is all the tools you will need for the book. Some people may not find that to be important but for me it was because i am about to move out on my own and i never cooked anything until now (had to heat up some broth) lol and i don't even know if thats cooking lol This book has sooooo many recipes that you can learn and see the full nutritional values, and there is a couple of pages that compares items. for example: have this in your pantry ....... Smucker's natural Peanut Butter creamy ................................... don't have this in you pantry ....... jiff reduced fat and it explains why by saying your trading hydrogenated oils and corn syrup for more healthy fat (small excerpt) I took a pic as you can see below of one particular recipe.. yogurt parfait ................ made @ home the calories are 330 G fat (3.5 sat) 34G sugar ................... but if getting from Au bon pain its 700 calories (4 sat) 91G sugar Has anyone else brought this book and cooked anything out of it?
  2. Tuesday Menu-Well I had another near miss with falling off the diet train yesterday. I credit the power of a full belly via lunch, and also credit mindfulness with keeping me sane and eating healthy-on plan food. Instead of having a mini binge or rather a hedonistic meal, I was able to feed myself a very filling and healthy lunch which allowed me to really get in touch with my feelings so I could process them. And that allowed me to make and eat a very delish, simple, and healthy dinner rather than shoving carby, salty, fatty food down my piehole. This morning I woke up in a much better frame of mind and feel like I "won the day." B-yogurt/cottage cheese blueberries almonds and Fiber One cereal bowl with 1oz Fairlife skim milk, 2 pieces bacon MS-carrots and hummus L-Fried Egg and Swiss low carb wrap AS-psylli tea, peanut butter and GS apple D-blackened tilapia, green beans in garlic and olive oil, Greek salad with Nicoise olives and feta BS-pomegranate seeds, Lily's SF dark chocolate chips, toasted almonds Daily Totals: 1493cals; 98g protein; 80g fat; 93g carbs; 39g fiber; 54g net carbs (Dayum! I have GOT to get my protein down and my fat up! This is entirely too much protein for me.)

    Not Desired Results

i am still pre op but i have received my diet paperwork before surgery and my NUT specifically says protein is a must!! are you getting protein from oatmeal>??? i highly doubt as much as you would an egg or a piece of low fat cheese or even a greek low fat yogurt. i would try to revisit with your NUT to steer you back in the right direction. your diet just seems to lack protein and frozen meals the sodium in those can be really bad for you. when you get a 1/4 of what everyone else is happening. ask yourself if your eating protein, veggies then starches and carbs last IF there is any room left. hey congrats on the weight loss so far!! i would LOVE to be 30 pounds down from where i am right now!! good luck to youuuu

Day 12 Post Opp. An Hungry

I was allowed to have yogurt and pudding by day 5 post op and ground chicken or egg by day 7. I mixed them with a tiny amount of olive oil mayo( like chicken salad) only ate @ 1/4 cup but so good! Im 2 weeks post op as of friday and just starting regular food...so far no problems at all. Just chewing well and going slow!
  5. I am on day 17 post op, I have lost 40 lbs since starting my liquid diet on 2/23, so I am very happy with that! I have an old doctors office scale with the weights that you slide at the top, everyday I have been sliding those weights down a little bit, and I leave them in that position for the nest day. I started mushies yesterday, and when I weighed myself this morning I actually gained a 1/2 lb!! I am very unhappy about this! I didn't eat much yesterday, two yogurts, aprox 4 forks fulls of tuna fish, and 2 fork fulls of egg salad. Is it normall to gain or maintain for a while when moved to mushies?
  6. That is so funny! I was so sure you would be given the green light today- but I might have known we are cosmically connected. I admit I am thinking of trying ONE spoonful of sugar free pudding- just to see! SO you are on full liquids until Monday too? The Red Velvet gang is so connected. I just wish I could have cottage cheese or yogurt without milk thinning it....something with some toothsomeness!
  7. So today was my post-op visit (2 weekish) with my surgeon and I woke up excited just to check in with him. I made a list of my questions and synced my fat secret food log to my iPad so he could see I have been logging my food, and weighed just before going as I am always wondrring how my scale compares to his huge walk on platform scale with handles. INterestingly I am always a pound LIGHTER in his office- isn't that odd? I remember at other times in my life always being heavier at the doctors. He was so wonderful today- came in saying "Hello beautiful" and was so excited that I am so happy having had the sleeve. He was really open to hearing some things about my experience that I thought he could perhaps learn from - especially my feeling he could let newly sleeved people know it is perfectly normal to not be able to swallow liquids and that it will turn around- just give it time and don't kick yourself over it. My questions and his answers 1. When can I go in the pool? Answer- NOW! As long as I do not exercise my core- he wants me to wait until four weeks for that. THis means no class but Water walking is ok YAY! 2. Can I put scar cream on my scars? Answer -Yes- the surface skin fell off and they are safe now. 3. When am I basically free from fear of blood clots? This was because my GP told me to elevate my legs on a pillow at ight and that has been hard. Answer- if I am walking every day I can relax about it. 4. I have been having diarrhea every day- is that something to worry about? Answer- some patients have that as their thumbys (my word not his) adjust to things- and it sometimes helps to dilute the Protein shakes too. (Not my fave answer as I tend to put my Protein powder in the least liquid I can handle in order to get it down faster ;-P ) 5. CAN I START COTTAGE cheese AND NON THINNED YOGURT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AT MY STAGE? Of course this was my most important question- and I got a bad news good news answer- he wants me to stay on thinned liquids and Protein drinks until Monday, my three week mark. But then it is full on mushies, not just adding cottage cheese. That is only five days away and I am not worried- I know I want to heal well and that is more important than what food I get. The most exciting thing was that he said I am so articulate and knowledgeable he would like me to come to some orientation seminars to talk to prospective patients. I was honored and thrilled about that, that will help me pay it forward as I do want to do, and try to with my You Tubes. One other interesting thing- I told him I think the sleeve will be THE surgery before long and he said he totally agrees- he has thought that for nine years but just was waiting for the world (i.e. insurance companies) to catch up! He feels his sleeve patients in the long term do better than his bypass patients and I found that very interesting. SO I see him in a month and will be on mushies until then. I can deal.

    What did i do?

I had surgery the same date, and while I haven't tried Pasta, I have had a couple of bites of Beans, and about a quarter of a piece of chicken breast. The liquid stage that my doctor has me on is so long, and I see so many other sleeve diet plans that allow gradual progressions of foods after only two weeks. Today so far I have had yogurt, chicken broth, and four spoon full of refried beans with cheese. The beans are not supposed to be for another five days, but so far so good.

    Day 3 Post Op

I was sleeved on the 24th and discharged on the 25th from Johns Hopkins. Getting in both fluids and Proteins has been a huge challenge due to acid reflux. I'm taking a 40 mg protonix in the morning and a 20 mg otc prilosec in the evening. Anyone else find something that works better? I only got in 24 oz of fluids today, but discovered I can tolerate sf popsicles and ice. It took me 2.5 hours to drink an 8 oz Protein shake. Greek yogurt and sf pudding goes down more easily. I only had one dose of pain meds today and am going to try and make that it so that i can maybe have a bm again someday. Can we take Colace yet? Sunday was awful, but Monday and Tuesday continued to improve.
  10. OMG. so today was day one of my full liquid diet and i had a can of campbells cream of chicken Soup with 1 can of skimmed milk...after i ate it i decided to figure out the calories and WOW. 330 cal. plus 90 cal for the milk is 420 cal, not to mention the carbs and FAT....does everyone eat this or is there another brand out there that is better groan.................. also, i ate a dannon fit and lite yogurt and half way thru it felt like it was stuck in my chest and i regurgitated?? i thought this didn't happen with the sleeve, this is what i put up with when i had the band....advice please>>>

    Dairy?

Take a break and slowly reintroduce after a few days with one item and see how it goes. I developed serious lactose intolerance post op. For me, dairy is an absolute no-no, so I had to turn elsewhere for Protein. I cannot tolerate any animal milk, not even Lactaid or goat milk. Sour cream, cream (heavy, light or whipped), yogurt, cottage cheese and most soft cheeses cause me immense discomfort. Ice cream is an absolute forbidden food for me - even the tiniest amount has me sick for the entire day. Whipped cream does the same. Now, some of those foods I'm happy to avoid, but others were very tough to give up. I do okay with hard cheeses like parmesan or aged cheddars, in small doses - but those are hard to find where I'm currently living, so I just do without for the most part. I relied heavily on cottage cheese and yogurt for protein in the beginning so I was lost without them. I finally had to switch my Protein shake to a lactose free one and start mixing with coffee, almond milk or soy milk. I make my own soy milk and from it, yogurt and tofu. I eat these or make seitan when I'm not in the mood for a meat-based meal but I still need protein. I'm not in America, but in the states this isn't as hard to overcome as you might think. There are SO many options to keep you able to eat these foods that you love, provided you don't have an allergy to soy, too! Stateside I can sub out coffee creamer with coconut milk, eat coconut ice cream, enjoy non-dairy sour cream and cream cheese replacements and even order non-dairy cheeses online or find them at my local store. Many of these options are nutritionally similar and will also boost your protein intake a little. The hardest part for me was finding a lactose free protein shake that I enjoyed but I've since found several that I can tolerate. Order samples online if it turns out you do need to change things up. I can tell you that as much as I miss dairy my life is improved very much now that I'm not suffering from discomfort. Good luck. Hopefully you won't have an issue, but even if you do it's not the end of the world. ~Cheri

    Dairy?

i am about 25 days out and consume tons of dary ( haha not tons but you know what i mean) i have 2 big 10 oz protein shakes with skim every day, cheeses, yogurt etc.... no issues so far, i hope that i don't have issues.
  13. Is there such a thing as too much too fast? I Started my pre op diet on Oct 12, 2012, my begin wieght was 337, yesterday was my 4 week post op mark, and I wieghed myself this morning and I am down to 278, if i am not mistaken thats 59lbs. Granted I was down to 309 the day of the surgery on Oct 22, 2012. but altogether it seems like its a lot of lbs to loose in a short amount of time. I beleave I will slow down as soon as I can start to eat better, but as it is now I am not holding down much, I can do a protien shake, it takes about an hour to get down, I can eat some soft foods like yogurt and apple sauce but only about three very small bites at a time, then i am done for hours. I had my surgery done out of the US, for a couple reasons, first of all the bariatric surgen would not even talk to me because I take narcartics for pain, plus the local surgen wants 25K to 30K so I went out of the country (Mexico), The doctors and nurses were exeplery they were so nice and accomidating to our every need it seemed like, but the only problem is there is no follow up care which i would have thought that if you follow the diet like it says there should not be any problems, but to my surprise there are unforseen things that one just does not think about, like I think the doctor might have made my stomach pouch too small be cause it is really hard to keep anything down, but maybe this is the way its suppose to be, time will tell.
  14. So I got about three sips of protein drink down. And tried to eat a yogurt but only could eat a spoonfull in 20 mnts. Wow. This is going to be harder than I thought to get protein. Anyone else on this finding it hard?

    Triple Zero

Looks good. I'll try them in place of my Activia Light yogurt. Too bad they come in 5 oz. portions, though. The 4 oz. Activia's are a better size for me.

    Cup of food

Slider foods are things that aren't really slowed down by the band (unless you are SUPER tight)...things like yogurt, ice cream, cookies, candy, chips (although some have trouble with chips, for most they crunch up and go down VERY easy) Cheese enchiladas...things that rarely get stuck and go on through. Notice many of them are not necessarily good IF you are trying to lose weight! Mushies, soups, soft foods (from your post op diet) are all slider.
  17. I tried early on to blend protein powder with greek yogurt and that was noooo bueno! =/ Now I blend with very cold water and ice cubes which helps to thicken it, as well as frozen banana and a little SF torani syrup makes them taste all coffee shop special =)
  18. His plan is pretty quick - Water, Jello, popsicles days 1 - 4, then add in Protein drinks, thinned-down cream Soups, and yogurt days 4 - 6. Weeks 2 & 3 are mushies. I'm not too sure about beyond then, I only studied 2 weeks out. This water thing is killing me. There's already a 30ish pound difference in the scale, and I truly beliee at least 80% of that is dehydration. I'm accustomed to 120+ oz water a day, and I've been lucky to get about 30. I've started getting yuck mouth.

    Beans & salad

I really just put them in at around 300 degrees and then just stir them around a few times until they seem dry. I am not a good cook so I guess I havent paid attention to the time! I bought an edamame dip the other day that I really liked and will prob try making myself (beans in the food processor and some greek yogurt and spices?)I really dont use mayo anymore and I have never liked the reduced fat or cal versions of mayo so I just use the yog! I bet you could bake the edamame beans the same way...hmmmm Oh I also use hummus to mix into canned tuna instead of mayo...I really like the red pepper flavor!

    Bathroom

Sometimes i go 2 weeks without going! I have to take milk of magnesia to be able to go. And that's with eating activia yogurt, and fiber one cereal in my diet.
  21. mistysj for the very 1rst time in 2+ years my DH said something to me yesterday!!! I had one fage yogurt with fresh blueberries and granola (yum yum, my favorite) about 4 hours i had another one tom commented something like, "didn't you already have one of those earlier?" i couldn't believe it btw DH is about 100 lbs overweight (doesn't want to lose weight, but is thrilled for my weight loss) go figure kathy
  22. I was banded on the 7th. I haven't had any problems drinking. I have an 8 oz protein shake for breakfast and soft food like yogurt, mashed pototoes, SF pudding, SF popcicles and jello the rest of the time. I haven't had any pains, just a little sore. Tonight is my first night back to work.

    Craving food

Can you have yogurt yet? I was able to have the greek yogurt cups from day 1 and found those really helped me during the liquid phase. It feels more like eating rather than drinking. I too am one of the unfortunate ones to have hunger from the get go. The nice thing about the sleeve though, is that hunger and craving gets satisfied very quickly. It's funny because I'll be hungry and then weigh out around 100g (3-4oz) of ground turkey (or something similar), and then only be able to eat 1/2 of it because I get full so quickly. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you make good food choices (Protein, protein, protein) before choosing to eat anything else (veggies/carbs).
  24. Just curious to see if anyone has tried this frozen Greek Yogurt and whether or is ok for sleevers?

    Anyone From India?

Neil, 3 months out with a 62 pound loss! That's amazing! Being a vegetarian in America will definitely be much easier than in India. There is a larger variety of Protein options available to you. Natural, low fat cheeses, greek yogurt, low fat milk, powdered Peanut Butter, protein powders, nuts, and soy products. All these items are staples you should have in your house, to provide yourself with daily variety! I'm in California. Good luck to you!
