From what I understand, weight loss post revision is always slower than the rate at which you lost with your original surgery. Plus you’re losing from a lower weight (if I read correctly) so that will result in a slower rate. What does your team say? Are they concerned? When losing I only had one snack a day: a high protein yoghurt or yoghurt drink, or I had some fresh fruit. Check with your dietician for what’s best for you & your needs. I never exercised but I lost all my weight & more. Exercising only contributes to about 10% of the weight you have to lose. So in your case if you want to lose those 45lbs, exercising will only result in about 4.5lbs. Of course many other benefits to exercising especially for your family history. Maybe start with walking. You don’t have to go to a gym. All I do now is stretching & use resistance bands. Do about 4 sessions of 5-10 minutes of various activities. Mainly for my back & to remain limber. All the best.

Anybody having RNY in the near future in Brisbane
sisterchip replied to justright66's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all Good to see the numbers growing. There is also a fantastic FB site Gastric Bypass and Weight Loss Surgery Australia - the URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/1522935474586942/?ref=br_tf. I joined this group as well and there are so many people of there supporting each other. If you are FB, i would suggest you join this group as well. I finally told my parents yesterday that I am doing the surgery and they were pretty good about it. They think it is radical but they are concerned about my weight, so they said they would provide me with whatever support I need - so that is a great outcome. I have started the Optifast shakes a couple of weeks early - to ease myself into the process really! I have been concerned that I would not be able to manage the pre-op diet. Good to hear everyone is doing good at the moment. I was a little overwhelmed about the surgery and my new life the other day, but I have been feeling much better the last couple of days - just focusing on the positives and what I can control really. Take care and chat soon D -

PAID POSTERS!!? Too bad the AZ OH boards aren't reading about what he's doing to this poor woman. They should know about this. This person should report him to the medical board. I am wondering why didn't he didn't give her antibiotics in the first place for that size of an infection? Ignoring internal infection is very serious - people can die from infection! In fact, TJWOOD hasn't posted lately and the last message said she had 103+ fever!! Interesting that his office told TJ that the doctor wouldn't be in the office until Tuesday. I just looked at the AZ OH board for fun and someone whose profile name is "Lizzie" just posted on her profile today that he performed revision surgery on her LAST Friday, Nov. 21st! So, apparently, he WAS in town! But, I guess he was only available for new patients! $$$$ TJ, please give us an update! I'm concerned! Even more so because your doctor's office lied to you! This is awful beyond words! -

Schlesinger??? Oh Lord... I had no idea. I wish I would have seen this sooner. Schlesinger has more paid posters than any other AZ doc, not here but on OH. It's sickening to see them in action. Check out the revision boards on Obesity Help - Weight Loss Surgery, Obesity Support Groups, Obesity Forums, Surgical Procedures and you'll see what I mean. If anyone writes anything the least bit negative about the doc on the patient testimonials the paid posters dog pile them. OP... you seriously need to have an upper endoscopy to rule out erosion. When you have a port infection the bacteria can often times travel up the tubing to the band and cause erosion. This is a big deal. Are you in AZ? If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. Stay on top of this, don't let any doctor pooh pooh this, this is a big deal. You can lose your band over something like this. As for Simpson... he's okay. I don't like that he doesn't follow his patients after surgery, the rest of his staff do. There are several very good surgeons in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Burger and Aldridge in Flag are good, St. Lukes docs are good. OP, if there is anything I can do to help please let me know. -
hey newbie here and i have a question for the veterans about psych medications with bypass. my surgeon said i would not have any issues and i trust her but i want to get a patient perspective esspecially that first year did you have to lower or up your doses due to the absorbtion issues with bypass. i am maxed out on a couple of my medications so upping them is not an option i know when i go in for my psych eval i need to bring this up but i just am worried i will be dealing with wacked out meds along with the body changes that come with this surgery

oh good!!! I hope you're able to get a surgery date that soon!!! My partner is having bypass with Dr. Soloman and we're hoping for the end of March/beginning of April!! Oh, and after you see Dr. Takahashi, they are going to have you do a 4 hour bariatric surgery class over where the support groups are. I had to wait 3 weeks to get into that class because the first one was full and I think it's only offered every two weeks. They sure make you jump through a ton of hoops!!!! -

Hello all. I'm not a long-term vet, had my gastric bypass surgery on October 26, 2015. I take Wellbutrin and Lexapro and have had absolutely no problems with depression since surgery. I make sure to take my Vitamin D every day because I tested low for it and my psychiatrist said a deficiency could contribute to depression. Each day as I track my food intake I do a quick assessment of my mood and make a note of it. If something is going on I will have a good record of it. Best of luck to you all. -

What size is your sleeve?
lorilove replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was a 32f. I had my surgery July 4th (one week tomorrow) and I've lost near 20 pounds (30 counting the one week Preop diet) and I can actually drink a lot more fluids than I thought. Mine was also oversewn. I know some people say it doesn't make a difference but to me it did. I paid out of pocket though I have insurance and bougie size played a part in my decision to self pay. I wanted the most restriction even if only as a placebo. I guess I will know more in a month or so. For me, it was either the smallest possible sleeve or go with bypass. Started at 255 before Preop diet. -

Denied! Now what do I do?
Bobbe Schu replied to Beauty+5's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
DON'T DO ANYTHING until you contact Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy. They can help you, I know. My peer-to-peer for band to bypass procedure was denied last week so at the advice of many on this site, I contacted them and THEY are appealing my case. Google them for contact information. You won't be sorry. I have a great deal of confidence that my decision will be overturned! -

@JRT Mom Don't they remove some of the intestine though? And isn't recovery much harder? My primary motivation is getting healthy for my kids - but I don't want to die on the operating table or have some severe complications and leave them with just one parent I chose the band because it seemed so safe. But man, it sure sucks, and it doesn't help me. Do you like the bypass? Does it make you feel better?

female only 12-yrs post op and - finally - I am finding myself
My Bariatric Life posted a topic in The Gals' Room
I am 12-yrs post gastric bypass. Back in the day, we did not have a treatment team to help us succeed in our journey. My surgeon, Dr. Vishal Mehta, told me, "I do the surgery. The rest is up to you." I was so focused on transforming my physical self and learning healthy eating that I never did the work to transform my inner self. I didn't even know it was part of the process. I think it is an important part of our transformation that is often overlooked -- we don't find ourselves. So I've been exploring finding myself, which has led me on a spiritual path where I've learned to love myself and others unconditionally. And I've started to share those experiences through my opinion pieces (articles) on BariatricPal. So I thought I'd put the links and synopisis here to those articles for those who may be on a similar path of finding themselves. I hope my experience in some way helps you on your journey to health in body, mind, and spirit. We all deserve to live a life we love! Soul Relationships, Part 1 Once we master our physical appetites we then begin to change the way we relate to ourselves and others. We are in a great transitional period. Our old way of being that was deeply entrenched in us was fearful. There is an awakening after obesity. We experience true living. Our lives can, in fact, be Heaven on Earth. True Love I grew up with a romanticized notion of love: One day my prince would come and life would be perfect. I still have my vision of him: A big, tall, dark and handsome dominate male, the stallion, who would rescue me, worship my feminine traits, but not possess me (except in the bedroom). Aside from the attributes in parenthesis, my fantasy man came straight from the Disney Princess movies of my childhood. -
I’m so sorry ur experiencing this with the LB n it’s unfortunately cuz u’ll continue with all those symptoms until u make the right choice in removing it n instead settling for a revision. I can fully relate to ur experience/symptoms cuz I too had the LB for 11 yrs n all my symptoms started a few months after getting it. So, I just put up with all the symptoms n tolerated the band cuz it was a nice little tool that DID the JOB in helping me loose weight by not OVER EAT or able to eat anything at all. I was 210 lbs when I got it. I went down to 135/40 lbs n loving/liking the way I LOOKED even though the symptoms SUCKED. I became ANEMIC n at one time got an AWFUL BACTERIAL infection that I DON’T wish on anyone. Believe me it was a SACRIFICE having the band. But unfortunately n cuz I had no other choice; in 2018 I had the band removed due to LOTS of problems with the port after getting a tummy tuck n too was tired of all the TERRIBLE/AWFUL symptoms that came with it. If I would’ve FULLY RESEARCHED n known of all the LB symptoms; I would’ve instead OPTED for a bypass. Unfortunately I did gain ALL my weight back but that was only due to lots of medical issues once I entered MENOPAUSE n being put on medication. So now, due to all my weight gain I REFUSE to let myself go n NOT EXHAUST all options for OVERALL BETTER HEALTH. Therefore, I’m currently being monitored by a nutritionist n dietician along with my bariatric doctor for a possible GASTRIC BYPASS that was recommended by my doctor. Hope my sharing helped n u make the right choice for ur OVERALL HEALTH. May God illuminate/bless you in DOING THE RIGHT THING.🙏🏽

Knowing what I know now about the band and have experienced major issues with it, I would say revision is necessary. I just recently revised to the sleeve in November. It's weird because it still feels as though my band is still there without the stuck feeling. I am very restricted and you would think I am half way to goal, but no. I've only lost 14 pounds since my surgery. I'm happy because I'm not gaining lol. Anyway, by all means, consult with your surgeon and do what you feel is best. Good luck! Is your 'hunger feeling' different post op?
SAD HATTER replied to dhrguru's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon said surgery will not remove hunger. It will allow you to physically eat less, in one sitting, if you follow the rules. Before surgery, I am always hungry. I am hungry all day. However, I only eat 3 times a day. It takes a lot for me to feel that full feeling. Surgery is supposed to help you reach that full feeling. If you give in to the hunger all the time, you won't be successful. bypass won't take that struggle away. The first 6-7 months, your body is in control. You lose the weight. After that, you have to maintain it. You have to eat to the point of near full, slowly, to give your body time to feel that you are done. Then you have to stop. You have to tell yourself, this small portion will fill my tiny teeny stomach, and I will be fine. I have lived my whole life being hungry. I know I will still have hunger. But in 2 days, I will be given a tool to help me control how much I put into my body. And after that, it's up to me. Surgery is not a for sure fix. Or a quick fix. Or a miracle. It still takes work. But it will help you if you follow the plan. Protein first. No liquids with meals. STAY AWAY FROM EMPTY CARBS. No alcohol, and don't drink your calories. hydrate hydrate hydrate. My NUT has preached this to me over and over and over. If I fail. It is going to be because I just flat out didn't follow rules. And I am not about to let that happen. -
Only able to eat tiny amounts
Tiffykins replied to bugirl928's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. There is not even an average really from what I've read on the boards for over 2 years. For me, I was stuck at 2oz of dense Protein until I was over 4 months out. I stuck to mushy/soft protein such as deli meat with cream cheese, chili, ground meats with some sort of sauce, chicken/tuna/egg salad well into my 3rd month post-op because I could get in the calories and protein goals without having to use shakes which made me puke so I stuck with what worked. I was moved to "regular" food on week 4 of my post-op diet, but I really had a tough time getting in a decent amount of food until 3.5-4 months out. I could eat puree meats, or chili, or meats with some sort of condiment, so those are little tricks I used to get in more protein from food sources. Some don't really struggle after the first 6 weeks, or they just supplement with shakes. I didn't have that as an option so I stuck with what worked for me. A lot of it was also the fact that I did have a leak and lost additional stomach tissue with my revision from the band so I had more trauma than most, but then there are others that report the same thing and they had zero issues with their sleeve nor had any complications. -
4 Month Postop Anniversary And What This Surgery Has Taught Me + Recipes
Randi commented on Nurseypoo's blog entry in Nurseypoo's Blog
I have wondered the very same thing, but I agree with Tiffany has part of the success of what we are experiencing. I know that if I ate as little as I do now I would be constantly hungry, shaky, and unhappy. I know that people who have had the gastric bypass DO get hungry so that's one reason I chose this surgery. I have been lucky to have only a few people scoff at what I did - one called me an a*****e and a gigantic hypocrite [on Facebook for all to see] to do what I did and actually tell people about my journey. She said that not everybody can afford to better themselves and therefore I was the bad guy. She, I might mention, is not overweight which makes it even stranger. Oh, well - enough about my little life. I'm happy with the choice I made and YAY for the rest of us!! -
I used to be a 'gourmet' beer drinker...stouts, dark ales, etc. My surgeon/nutritionists strongly recommend that I avoid beer (or any carbonated or alcoholic beverage) due to the empty calories adding up fast and the carbonation possibly stretching the pouch. They've shown that bypass patients are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol, because of the 're-routing' of the small intestine and because they actually have a much smaller stomach post-surgery. Maybe for banders it would be because of the lower body mass once you've lost weight...the same amount of alcohol would produce a higher level in the bloodstream?? (just guessing) I'm guessing that beer for me will be an extremely occasional thing...maybe when I get to goal I'll have some more often. Even in the past, I drank beer for the rich flavor...rarely had more than two in an evening, and that was usually once or twice a week. I'm paranoid about drinking and driving, so if I'm at a picnic or evening function, I never drink. My dad was an alcoholic and drove drunk all the time.
