Any ideas on what to have sardines or canned tuna with??
pintsizedmallrat replied to Penguin733's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I would probably just eat it with a spoon, tbh. I don't know if you're able to have raw veggies yet but PEELED cucumber slices might be the best option (if you're going to have problems with any part of the veggies it's probably the skin/seeds so I would do either a Persian or English cucumber that has been peeled) -
At the stage you're at, especially since your loss has slowed, you are possibly losing inches due to your skin tightening up a little; I was SUPER saggy when I reached my goal weight, and I have been more or less maintaining and while I haven't lost much, I have gone down two pants sizes because my skin is shrinking back.

Just a lil rave... As of this morning, I am officially down my first 50 lbs! I had a 3-week stall 2 weeks after my surgery. I had issues with my skin, with constipation, and this horrible stall. Because it's a revision, my weight loss is incredibly s-l-o-w (compared to virgin surgeries). I was so disappointed, having buyer's remorse, and all that. I've only lost 20 lbs in 45 days, but altogether (including my pre-op dieting) it's 50 whole pounds since May 11th!

I have been using an oil for a few months but not as religiously as I should. It has changed the appearance of it, not sure if reduced per se since I do not look at them too much, and I started doing resistance training when using it. Perimenopause & RNY warning
pintsizedmallrat replied to longhaul68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 40, and my mother went through menopause very young so I assume that I probably will as well. I guess that qualifies me as "perimenopausal". I already had heavy periods because of uterine fibroids, but it seems like menstruating REALLY depletes me now, mostly because I am anemic (and have had to do iron infusions because of it). I also miss my period pretty regularly; I'm fairly sure my body wants me to weigh 100 pounds before I get my period at all, and I fluctuate between 95 and 100. Considering that 94 is the threshold for "underweight" for my height and I am most definitely carrying around at least a few pounds of extra skin, I need to weigh 100 or so. I don't know how much of it is early-stage menopause and how much of it is my weight being borderline-too-low, but my period doesn't come every month. I have to go out of my way to get enough iron during that time, when I do get my period. I eat a lot of shellfish and pumpkin seeds that week, both of which are CRAZY HIGH in iron...Kroger has a frozen package of mussels in white wine garlic sauce and I will make half a package, 25% of your iron in one sitting! Within reason, it's actually helpful to indulge a little during those days, have a couple squares of dark chocolate or some oysters. Your body is working hard to replace the blood you're losing. -
Where does mushroom and poultry with skin go? Soft or regular?
Arabesque replied to Penguin733's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I cooked with mushrooms from soft - omelettes usually but also mince dishes & casseroles. I would think it would be a no to wings for some time. One of our biggest enemies is food that is too dry & coarse especially in the first months. It can sort of get stuck & cause the foamies. Chicken breast, even skinless, is a common culprit. So a wing which is traditionally drier would be worse & then frying it, even air frying would make it more dry & the crispy skin would be dry & coarse as well. Even in soft food, you food should be moist, tender & have some sort of gravies, sauces to help you chew & swallow the food. If you want chicken, try thigh (boned or deboned), baked or sautéed in a pan & flavour with any herbs or spices you usually enjoy with your wings. Thighs are more tender (& flavoursome). Of course check with your team. Plans can be different as we all know & then it depends upon what we can tolerate. -

Where does mushroom and poultry with skin go? Soft or regular?
Penguin733 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So I'm currently creating my grocery list for next week when I land on soft foods, and I was curious when do I get to eat mushrooms? As that's one of my favorite vegetables and I see that they're bariatic safe online but nothing that says when I can eat them. I'm also curious about chicken/turkey wings, as I have an air fryer I figured that'll be an easy way to have a "fried" fixing since I can do up the skin perfectly crisp. Is that okay too at the soft stage? -

Night before surgery and today. Three months and 60lbs apart. Ironically, it's the same PJs, but it really shows the difference in the fit. The pants are definitely getting loose now. They were pretty tight before.

Absolutely! Amazon has a few with good reviews. I made sure to search for surgical compression garments. They are a lil pricey but it seems worth it. Several bariatric patients told me in person that I need to wear a girdle of some sort to help with the excess skin amount and weight loss . Told me it will help out a lot for contouring without having to get a lot of surgery.

Sorry what is cellulite? Lumpy fat? Is it depth of fat or the surface appearance that bothers you? And what outcome is your ideal? What, how much, and where on your body are you noticing this OP? Think that might assist people to advise you. I have all manner of skin appearance in various areas of my body after my surgery. No desire to alter that although I know lots of people need to xx

You look wonderful dear. Keep up the great work. I just took a look at that article that was tagged. I should be able to handle spanx. I will give it a try. Nothing too crazy right or touching my skin directly or on for hours either.

That was my thought. I always cook salmon with the skin on, it's a bit rich and oily- even without the extra butter I used to add, lol. I can remove the skin and poach it, but I'll wait. That casserole was not giving! Thanks for the ideas, the rissoles sounds good as does adding a sauce or gravy to meats. I need to practice some healthy sauce recipes.

After you loose a considerable amount of weight you really should have another sleep study. I lost 70 lbs & still have to use one! I’ve been using one for 18 years 🤦♀️

August 2023 Surgery Buddies!
MeNotYou replied to kayhay0714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Gloria🤗 Breath Hun... All these feelings you're in battle with right now, are normal. I've battled my weight pretty much most of my life as well and I'm 57. It's not like you won't be able to eat things you love again. Sure it's going to be awhile... And our stages of recovery will feel slow.. But... Hang in there. One day at a time. One step at a time. One success at a time. Being healthy is key. Obese people loose out on so much life. Weigh out the good and the bad... And decide for yourself who you are doing this for and why you're doing it. What your goals are. Feeling great... Having energy... Living longer... Avoiding illnesses and diseases like cancer.. And perhaps setting examples for others... Your children( if you have). You've come this far for a reason... And you've worked so hard!!! I have faith in you🙏💜 -
Wow, that’s crazy. Good to hear it settled. The only thing I can think is that it’s the sensor. Since the sensor goes in just under the skin, maybe your fluid level is affecting the draw up into the device? Post surgery, your bodies fluid level is all crazy…so maybe it’s bothering the sensor. Another item. If I slept on my Dexcom the wrong way, it would pinch the sensor tube in my skin and I’d get false lows. So maybe with your fluid being wonky and such, it’s a combo of things? Do you stick yourself to check your sugars with a regular strip when you get a low on the Dexcom? That should tell you if it’s off.

WTF With The Dry Skin? =(
ChunkCat replied to CarmenG's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It could be acanthosis, but it could also be eczema. That can flare with stress and surgery is definitely stress! Heat can make it moody too. I wondered if your decreased fat absorption was causing the dry skin too... If you are prone to acne you might ask the derm about tretinoin. It helps with it a lot, though it also can make your skin drier and more sensitive and you have to be VERY diligent with sunscreen daily. -

I have told alot of people. I need all the support I can get. To me a bigger support system is better for my success. I weight 300lbs and once I start loosing weight quick people are going to notice. I would rather just be honest, then have to come up with something. Now this is just me and my opinion. I am 100% real , so I need all the advice and help I can get. No one has been negative to me through the whole process. Ya I have heard, people go back to what they used to do and gain it back. Ya I have heard its the easy way out. But its no different then taking weightloss medications and ect. It still requires alot of mental, emotional and physical work. I AM DOING THIS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY!! NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE!! THEY DONT LIVE MY LIFE -
Everyone has wild hormones after this surgery, even me at my age. I felt like I was pregnant again. I was so weepy, bloated and hot. I found out on here that our hormones are locked in the fat cells that we are loosing very quickly, so we are super hormonal. Quite a few people have become pregnant in the first months. You seem to be having an added nuisance to handle. I don't know if you are having problems because of this and I would advice you to see your Gynaecology team to be sure

Hi, @Chewchew46, thanks for updating us. I think your dietitian said that because what you're going through is normal. If you mean you have pain like a stabbing pain, then that's not normal and you need to make that clear to your medical team. But if you mean pain like feeling uncomfortably full, bloated, like a muscle cramp but not in your muscles, that kind of thing, then that's normal. I think of it like this - the incisions on my skin that I can see are not healed 15 days out, so all those stitches inside my internal stomach aren't healed either. So of course it's going to be uncomfortable to have food and liquid touching my healing stomach. You might try different kinds of pureed food. My stomach likes refried beans, Silk Greek yogurt, and canned chicken breast pureed with a bit of light mayo. It sometimes likes hard boiled eggs pureed with mayo, but not first thing in the morning. It's not a fan of ground beef pureed with tomato sauce or pureed banana. I'm only managing about 30 ounces of liquid a day, but my team says that's normal and ok as long as I don't have dehydration symptoms like dizziness or dark urine. You got this!

Hi all. I had surgery July 13th. Some days I feel like my porch isn’t working. Day 12 post op was the first day that I was hungry but I have also been having menstrual bleeding since day 2 post op. I known I shouldn’t rely on the scale but this week I didn’t loose much of anything. I know everybody journey is different but I’ve seen where people loose 20 pounds and I’m no where near that. It’s a lil disheartening. I follow up with surgeon tomorrow. I am focusing on hitting close to my protein goal. Although getting the fluids in has been challenging. I am working at it. Any advice would be appreciated. pre surgery weight 262

I gained everything back over the years as well. Last year I decided to get back on the wagon and lost a few pounds so Dr Baggs gave me a fill. Yes, he still there. Now I’m struggling to loose a few more so I can get another fill…. good luck with the sleeve!
