I've done ok on the depro shot. I did gain some weight after I started the shots but it was more from being on Weight Watchers and then I got off the program and started back to bad eating habits than the actual shot. My Gyn told me I could gain 10 pounds on it though when I first started it. I have looked online and the only non hormal bc is the paragard IUD besides just over the counter prevention that isn't as reliable. I hope my gyn office gets back to me quick, my next shot is 4/19/12. I hope I can stay on the depro shot but I guess if to have this surgery I have to go off it I will. I was sleeved 11/4. Had post op bm 11/10. And was it painful. Sent hubby to store for stool softners immediately. Definitely recommend them !! -
Thank you all for the encouraging comments and helpful tips...I absolutely think it's a combo of things (especially hormonal junk!). THank you ladies for lifting my spirits and giving me hope to keep going. Another quick question, have you all experienced any nausea with chewable bariatric Vitamins. I tried to take mine and ran to vomit about 10 min later. (i haven't thrown up at all this whole experience, but I have been nauseated here and there).

First Fill, Not Feeling Any Restriction! Is This Normal?
kbliss78 replied to tokiesgirl6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I know i am very new. However, I am following rules to a T! I am eating small 3/4 cup meals and at 900-1000 cal a day and have worked out daily the last two of 3 weeks since surgery. I lost 10 lbs week of surgery and gained a pound back and nothing since. I would think even without the band 1000 cal diet and daily exersize would be simple math of less calories than taking in would equal loss. But I feel like every other deit I have every been on, where I fail again. I always hate reading negative comments on this page and now I am doing the same thing. I just felt that I should see something in the right direction instead of a 1 lb gain. I have always worked out too so I dont think it is recent muscle gain. I also read everyone posting that they lost alot in the first month and keep at that rate. I just didnt want it to be like this. Even if I had a 1lb loss a week I would feel better. So, yes, I know how you feel -
I can relate. I was wearing a tight 3x tall shirt and I'm down to a large tall...hard to believe for me. Hoping it goes away so I can fully appreciate my progress and healthier life. VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 CW = 225.6 GW = 220 (6'5")

Hi, So I’m 10 days post op and in liquid diet phase and it’s dreadful. My plan as per my dietician is 4 weeks of clear liquid 4 weeks of puréed phase and 4 weeks of soft foods before real food.I am fed up with my food now and want to have some real food. How do I overcome this?

I have been getting B12 injections for at least 10 years, since I started menaupose. Works great, no pain!

I am so #%$#^ hungry!!
wannawearabikini replied to emily5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel! The hunger does end...when you move onto the soft stage! I had never looked so forward to cottage cheese in my entire life! But I would have miso soup(it's a clear liquid soup) from a Japanese restaurant and it was pretty tasty!! The good thing is, you're losing lots of weight right now! I lost 10 pounds in 10 days! I'm now on day 16 and haven't lost anymore because I'm eating real food. Hang in there!! This too shall pass!!! -
17 Days And Counting Bring On December 10Th.
taralynneRN59 replied to sarahjp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Starting mine Monday!! I am at work until Sat morning, and am planning on cleaning out my kitchen cupboards and closet over the weekend. Am keeping only the very basic clothing and have my shopping list for "reward clothing" all made out!! How is that for "positive thinking"? Most of my nerves are from fear of failure - too many years of it I guess. As for the actual surgery - I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction 5 years ago followed by chemotherapy; a hysterectomy; a appendectomy and 2 surgically removed cysts on my legs; plus to pilonidal cyst surgeries! all in the past 10 years - so a lap procedure does not make me nervous as much as trying to get really gross protein shakes down!!!! I work nights - so it is a challenge to keep up with a good eating schedule. Good luck with the pre-op, I hate to start things on the weekend, so Monday is good for me!!!! Tara -
Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Just finished day 10 of my liquid diet. Today is the first day I find myself truly struggling. I feel like part of it is because I didn't get my approval letter until today. So I may not have recognized that this is really happening. I have stuck perfectly to my liquid diet but today I want to eat. Anything really. Just binge eat like I always would to make me feel better. I won't do it. I just hate the thought of never being able to do it again. I realize it is how I got here in the first place and it is probably normal to be feeling this way, but I can't make it go away.

Just wanted to add to this thread that I've currently had a period for over a month. My Ob/Gyn put me on 10 day progesterone and now that I'm done with the pills, my period has become even worse. I'm going through superplus tampons every 1-2 hours. I'm feeling very week. I go to the Ob/Gyn tomorrow and she's talked about going on birth control pills. I have PCOS and am scared about going on birth control pills as I've had issues with fertility. Anyone else going through this? How long did it take to regulate? I'm really hoping this is just estrogen leaving my body, but I wish it would give me a break... I've been on a stall on my weight loss for just as long.

I am sorry to post this, I just need to vent a little. I hope someone out there can totaly feel my pain and understand where I am coming from...... At 5 am I was woken up cause My Dog decided to she wanted to go out (She is nursing 11 pups) anyways As I got out of bed I noticed I was soaking wet in Sweat! But it was cold sweat...... I took Amanda (my dog) out, and as I came in OMG I felt HORRIBLE!!! I got chest pains, Rapid heart beats, my tongue went numb, my arm and hands went numb, I felt nauceous, I felt like I was going to pass out! I was breathing ok but its like the air was going in but my body was not absorbing the Oxygen! I thought I was going to die!! As I walked back to the bedroom, I realized this could be serious, so my symptoms got WORSE!! I woke my husband up and made him take me to the ER. They took me in right away, they ran all kinds of tests , and scans to rule out blood clots or Heart attacks. After like about 3-4hours they came back and said uhm, you results came in, and everything looks normal! Then he asked "are you under any stress??" OMG HELL YEAH!! I HAVE STRESS GALORE!!!! then he said well you had an anxiety attack..... I will give you a shot and that should help. (Ativan) I was like WHAT?? An anxiety attack?????? ME????? So they gave me the shot and 10 min later the chest pain stopped, my body just relaxed...... I hate the fact that due to: -me choosing to stay home and be a Mom and a Wife, -Me choosing to move into my parents house to Help them out financialy -me stressing all the time that my DH is cheating -me gaining so much weight -me being so unhappy in my Marriage -Me wanting to change my future and bumping into so many obstacles to get there. -me always being worried about my parents health I AM GOING TO END UP KILLING MYSELF! I DONT MEAN IT LITERALY..... But I am just so OVERWHELMED, that I am causing stress in my body and I am going to end up giving myself a heart attack! I need a change...... I would love to just Leave far away from all these problems and start off new life..... Or maybe turn back time and made different choices.... When I got proposed to, I should have ran the other way instead of say YES i'll marry u! I am 27 yrs old! I shouldnt be having these types of problems yet....... I got scared today.... REALLY scared! My life is not what I wanted for myself. My Husband is not who I thought he was,,,,,, I need to feel loved and cared for.....for a change........... I had enough, I really did............ I mean I love my husband but it just sux to live like Brother and Sister...... It sux to know he is never home due to his job, It sux to ALWAYS worry about him getting shot at every day at work, or that I will get a call from one of his supervisers saying " I have bad news" I cant do this anymore.... I really cant!!!

My husband, before we got married, last October did confide that he was a recovering alcoholic. I guess I did not understand exactly what that meant until recently. We got married on 10/31/2011. In January, I thought he was having a stroke, but right as I was about to call 911 he confessed he had just guzzled a bottle of vodka, thus the slurring and stumbling. There have been many more incidents since then like this one. He has even been to some AA meetings to try to appease me. Last Saturday he was drunk before 1030 in the morning. He had went out to buy donuts, and guzzled a bottle of tequilla on the way home. He tried to lie and tell me some melatonin made him do all that. Then he went to drive himself to get something to eat. Later during the week, sober this time, he got mad at MY 5 year old and slap him on the leg pretty hard. This weekend was the straw that broke the camel's back. Me and my mother went out of town together, and he promised me he would not drink, since the previous week had been pretty bad. When I got home he was trying to change a spare tire, and when he spoke his speech was slurred. He said he had taken his Xanax and that it made him do it. When I went into our room to unpack, I noticed glitter all over our floor, then I saw all the knick knacks on my bookshelf were broke, and everything was askew. I also noticed our dresser was all crazy and pushed into the wall, and the aquarium was on the edge of the dresser. I asked him about this and he denied knowing anything about it. Well I told him that he needed to come look, because if he did it, then one of his teenage daughters had been in our room. Well finally he fessed up he had been drinking and he woke up and there was a mess, and he doesnt remember anything. He stated his nose was broke, he had bumps on the back of his head, and his face was all scratched up and he didn't remember anything. I went and spoke with his 16 year old, who has Aspbergers, and she states that he was out of his mind, he fell face first on hearth of fireplace, he fell off of the couch several times, he tried to put on a tank top in the dryer like it was pants, he kept walking into walls and he left the house in his car twice. Folks, this was enough for me. I know its supposed to be through thick and thin but I cannot raise my 5 year old like this. He has made several promises to me about getting help, and only does it for a day or so. Don't get me wrong, he is not verbally abusive, or physically abusive, and he's been a good husband except for this. My sanity is shot. My son and I moved to my parents last night, and I am looking for a place for us. I just had to vent.

First of all, 10 pounds/month is outstanding, if not excessive weight loss. relax and enjoy the ride...you are just at the very beginning of a lifetime of change. But in any case, You should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces for optimal weight loss. So for you, that's 95oz. Water is required for the biochemical process of fat metabolism. Without enough, that fat is going nowhere. Besides the fluids, you should shoot for 60-80g Protein. It will help with weight loss, maintaining muscle mass and maybe even hair loss down the line. Also, what is your calorie intake? A lot of new patients aren't getting enough calories and that can cause stalls as well. Good luck....you got this!

Hi, I'm 10 days post-op and I've been reading lots of forums like this one through the past week and a half. I've seen folks who are on full liquids like myself saying how long it takes them to finish something (say a 16 oz Protein Drink - one woman said this took half the day). Now, my pace has definitely changed and is still changing post-op (heartburn, fullness, and learning that if I feel uncomfortable in the slightest I should just stop eating), but my ability to finish certain things varies in time. A bowl of lentil Soup took 7 hours to comfortably finish, a thin tomato soup took 3-4, a Protein drink about 45 minutes, and two cups of miso takes about an hour give or take. Water, broth, and sugar-free Jello was straight up easy. Is this a person to person thing? What was this like for you? Am I going too fast? Will this affect the size of my sleeve?

Difficulty consuming food/calories-suggestions? 2.5 months p/o
LifetimeLoser replied to partofme!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. funny. I've been kind of sort of wondering the same thing. I was sleeved 01/30/13. Some days I can eat 600 calories and some days (like yesterday) it takes me forever to drink a protein shake. Yesterday I barely got in 300 calories. I do notice that I can eat more on the days I exercise. I also read on here somewhere that drinking while eating (which I know we are not supposed to do) helps digest the food in our stomach faster so we can eat more. I haven't drank with my meals, but there have been times when I didn't leave 30 minutes before and after and I definitely noticed I could eat more. It is really weird. I just started on soft foods...so that might be the reason why I ate a whole lot less yesterday. I don't know if this is normal, but if it bothers you then definitely talk to your doctor. I have an appointment on March 4th and will bring this up. Keep me posted please! -
I had VSG on 10/20 , and haven't lost any weight since Thanksgiving. What gives? I've only lost 21 lbs total.
-
I'm on day 10 now and have much better energy if I have had a good nights sleep (duh, I know ????). However do not over exert yourself, listen to your body. If you need to sit, sit. Some people bounce back right away! I have heard that walking before surgery helps a lot too.

Sugar Free problems?
James Marusek replied to kell778's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery everything is in transition. There is the transition from full liquids to pureed foods to solids; the transition in allowed meal volume; and the transition to allowed food categories. Each transition opens up new opportunities. So experiment. In Indiana they have a saying. If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes. It is sort of like that with food after surgery. I documented the approach I used after surgery in the following article. I hope it is of help. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf
