Ah yes, smaller feet! That was unexpected but so true. Depending on the type of shoe I'm down a 1/2 size to 1 1/2 sizes. At my highest weight I was wearing a 10 1/2 (women's) for pumps, but now I'm a size 9. For ankle boots I need a 9 1/2, though. Most of the time I'm in athletic shoes and dressed casually - it was funny the day I was going out dressed up a bit and my dress shoes wouldn't stay on! Had no idea they'd become way too big. Had to stuff some paper in the toes to make the event since there was no time to get new shoes. Part of this may be because I'm much healthier now and am no longer retaining water in my legs and feet. Most of my shoes got donated if they were in good shape. Luckily I was never an Imelda Marcos-type person with hundreds of shoes.

I’m 12 days post-op sleeve surgery today and feel terrible. I have not been out and about to get covid-19. I’ve been meeting my water and protein levels daily. I’ve incorporated some soft foods into my diet. I’ve tried Refried beans, eggs, creamy butternut squash soup with protein powder and prunes—all of these chewed very well. I’ve been walking a lot. I got my 10k steps in on Friday. Yesterday I started feeling tired around 4-5 pm and laid down so I only got around 7500 steps in. This morning I’m lightheaded and sipping my water again. I’ve been taking my vitamins like clockwork. I’m also down bc I haven’t lost any weight in two days and I’ve been more active and hydrated in the past two weeks than I’ve been in years and I’m not kidding. I know I’m going to be told to stay off the scale, but I just want the number to go down so bad! I’m so F*%#ing tired of being fat!!! I’m weepy. When I stretched out a few mins ago I almost passed out. I’m so tired and have been sleeping very well. I’m on day 11 of my cycle so that’s not it either. Why do I feel so bad when I’ve been doing all I can to feel better!?!?

February 2020 Post-Op Thread
Xx1jpt5xx replied to ResaRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 3 weeks out and was cleared to start trying all solids. Had some corned beef and carrots. No Ill effects. It was slow cooked for 10 hours so I think that helped. -
I also had surgery on 3/10/20 and can relate to missing being able to chew foods. So far what's been helping are popsicles. Right now, they're the firmest thing we are allowed post-op and I'm getting a lot of satisfaction being able to bite into them. I agree with Hop_Scotch about not advancing to the next stage until they give us the go ahead. I don't know about you but I'm still very sore and sensitive and while I crave being able to chew on something, we would be doing more damage to ourselves if we try to speed up the process. They should have given you some sort of paperwork or something that tells you when you can move to the puree stage. For me its after 2 weeks so on March 24.

I dropped from an Aust size 18 to size 6. The smallest size I’d ever been in the past was a size 10 so I’ve well passed the point I can wear the smaller clothes I’d kept from that time too. I have noticed my body shape is different from when I’d lost weight previously. Always was very hour glass shaped but am now more up & down now. Could be because of my age & the impact of menopause but also because the last kgs I’ve lost have totally come off my hips, butt & breasts. I donated bags & bags of clothing to St Vincent de Paul (keep finding more pieces to donate as I work through closets & cupboards) but did keep my high end clothes. Sold a few high end pieces to off set the cost of my new wardrobe. Also donated some of the high end to a fundraiser for fire relief here in Aust. Fortunately I only went down a half size in shoes. I offered the few that are too big for me to some girl friends but they wear larger sizes so they’ll be going to some cousins.

It’s been almost 10 months since my gastric sleeve surgery. I’m really excited that I’ve lost almost 90 pounds! Oddly enough my skin seems drier and Even more sensitive than before the surgery. Before the surgery I used to get rashes and yeast infections under my breasts and behind my knees. Now behind my knees are so itchy and dry. I will admit that I need to drink more water and this probably why my skin is so dry. Has anyone else experienced this? Even the skin on my belly is itchy.

Anyone decide WLS was for them very quickly?
over65 replied to thewifehere's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never considered surgery despite being obese for past 40 years. I saw my PCP for annual visit and he said I was pre-diabetic. I watched my father die of coronary artery disease and diabetes over 10 year period. It was horrible. No way I was going down that path. I went to seminar the very next week and decided immediately that surgery was my best possible way to stop progression of my health problems. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
BigSue replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it's a huge bummer. Maybe it's selfish, but I don't know. Many (most?) of us who are having this surgery really need it, and some of us have been waiting for a long time to get it. Many of us have serious health conditions and are counting on the surgery to help us lose enough weight to alleviate these conditions. Our health depends on it. Our lives could depend on it. I don't have a surgery date yet, but I was hoping for mid-July. I have a big work event from mid-October through the end of November, so I need to be fully recovered from surgery by then. If I get delayed more than about 6 weeks, I'm not going to be able to get the surgery in 2020, and that will also be a major financial blow. P.S. Part of the logic of naming the virus "COVID-19" and not "Wuhan virus" was specifically to avoid implicating a place or culture. The point was to prevent racist reactions that could result from associating the virus with a certain group of people. -
Day 3 post op and can drink liquids so well it scares me
biginjapan replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one knows about this surgery. I did tell a couple of people about my first surgery back in 2017 just in case something happened to me, but none of them live in Japan. For this surgery I told no one. Luckily I'm on university holidays (which will now be extended until May, due to Covid-19) so I haven't had to miss work for any reason. Most people, including my students, won't have seen me for 3+ months by the time school starts again, so I'm sure people will notice some of the weight loss by then. But since I've done this before, and was very focused on my diet, I think most people will assume that that's what happened again this time. -
Weight Gain Post Surgery
CammyC replied to msteinman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@msteinman weight gain is completely normal. I posted about same thing 3 days after surgery as I had gained weight too. The IV fluids and being bloated and full of gas makes you gain weight. It will take a few days for all that to get out of your system. Several people are going to tell you to stay off the scale. I kept looking every day and finally lost my first couple of pounds around day 5 or 6. I’m 11 days post op and down 10 lbs now: it’s okay. Just breathe, keep sipping you water and protein. Walk and walk some more. It all works out. You’re right on track! -
Upcoming surgery and"The Plague"
over65 replied to ebbii0927's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cancelation of surgery will depend on where your hospital is and the number of cases in that area. The cancelation would not be because it puts surgical patients at risk. It will be because hospitals are flooded with cases and not enough healthcare workers and beds/equipment at the time your surgery is supposed to happen. Priority for beds/equipment/resources will be for those seriously ill from Covid-19 with life-threatening conditions. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app -
My weight has fluctuated so much over the years that I had clothes in essentially 4 different sizes: XXXL, XXL, XL, and L Over the past 10 years I kept all of them because I always worried about going back even when I had successfully lost lots of weight and was comfortably wearing an L. This time, however, has been different. I *did* get rid of all my clothes XL and above once I got into an L. I finally had my surgery 3 days ago and I expect I’ll probably be in a medium when all is said and done. I’ll plan on getting rid of my Ls once that happens.

Upcoming surgery and"The Plague"
Cia2020 replied to ebbii0927's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Covid-19 is the illness causes by the coronavirus. Yes, it spreads just like the flu. Odds are the mortality rate isn't as high as it seems compared to the flu because millions more people get flu tests than are tested for Covid-19. People are panicking because there is little medical response available other than respite care because there is no "vaccine" available like for the flu--yet. Most people who get this are fine. I'm scheduled at a facility with 3 cases in Washington, I have heart disease and asthma which triggers to respiratory illnesses and before yesterday I worked in an elementary school: a hotbed of germs. Am I freaked out? Hell no. I'm not gross, and I wash my hands!! Now, there is a possibilty of elective surgeries being canceled. Some Seattle area hospitals have done so. Other smaller hospitals in the region have also done so. My hospital has said no visitors so even if I have surgery I will have to go it alone until discharge. I plan to contact my surgeon's office on Monday after my nutrition class if they don't have info because I am on Day 4 of the evil liquid diet, and I don't want to keep doing this if I have to do it again this summer. But am I freaking out about any of this other than a 500-700 all liquid diet torture being unnecessary? Nope! -
My motivation came as I was recovering from domestic violence in my last relationship. I had to move away from the area and move in with my family after he took everything from me. I’ve spent the last year in therapy and healing. I moved on March 16th 2019. I gained about 70 to 80 pounds in the last year and half of our relationship. I was eating and drinking alcohol for comfort. Part of regaining control of my life and independence has been this process. I’m grateful to be a year out from the madness of past life and grateful for this new journey becoming the woman I know I am, I can be and will be.

I told myself for YEARS that I was going to have WLS! I kept putting it off. I had a good reason in 2016 and 2017 due to massive TN flares that ended in me having brain surgery to (temporarily) get rid of it, but had no excuse in 2018, I just procrastinated and had no motivation even though I DID want to lose weight. Then my sister gave birth to my niece in 2019 and I realized that if I didn't do something I likely wouldn't be around to watch her grow up. My health wasn't the best and as the years passed it was like more things just got piled on and I had kept using those as excuses as to why NOT to do the surgery. But the birth of my niece was the catalyst that pushed me into doing something about it. I had to do six months of weigh-ins and although I didn't have to actually lose any weight I was just asked not to GAIN, I still dieted. I chose to start cutting out the foods that I wouldn't be able to eat any way like soda, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, beans, etc. on a month to month basis. I ended up losing 64 pounds before my surgery. And I've lost 33 pounds more in the seven weeks since I had my surgery. Motivation is something you have to find for yourself. Look at those around you and look at yourself. Is your health good or is it declining? If it's hard to push for the weight loss for yourself then try to do it for your family or friends because they most definitely want and need you in their life! I hope that you can find your own motivation to push you forward, and I wish you the very best!

I'm about 10 weeks out and last night was the first time I had a bad interaction with food. I don't know if I ate too fast, ate too much or my stomach just didn't like what I ate but wow, I felt terrible. Immediate heartburn then a stomach ache and chills for about 2 hours. I'll definitely be more careful about what and how I ate for a while.

February 2020 Post-Op Thread
3sonsitk replied to ResaRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe I did as well. I lost 10 pounds right after surgery then the scale stopped for about a week. Weighed this morning and I'm down 5 more pounds. I'm trying to get a handle on constipation. My Dr has me on full liquids for another week. -
FYI, I found in Amazon a Medical Alert card for bariatric patients. It asks Restaurants to allow us to order from a kids menu or lunch menu because of our stomach size. I’m having surgery next week, so it’ll be a while before using it. It lists on Amazon which Restaurants they know will accept it, although others may as well. It’s $5-$10.

SAME :( I lost 56. Surg was 10/2018 I've been at a horrible stall since April of last year. However, I was injured and could not exercise. I believe I have a good 50 pounds to go and I am super depressed about it. The mistakes I've made - eating what I wanted the first year and not exercising even when I was healthy to do so. It has absolutely had a huge impact on my loss. I have since started to completely cut down any carb snacks. This weekend (as I am healthy now) will be the first weekend that I start a full exercise regimen. Praying that it helps. I also subscribed to MyfitnessPal and have started to count calories. Eating too little or too much can really have an effect on losing. Have you been exercising? Has anyone had a stall and came back from it?

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Uomograsso replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It originated in Wuhan China. Historically flu strains are named after their place of origin. Hence Wuhan virus. More accurately it is Wuhan coronavirus. The disease it causes is named COVID 19. The official name of the virus is SARS-CoV-2. A coronavirus encompasses a wide variety of viruses, not just the Wuhan coronavirus. It is now being report that the death rate for those under 50 is 0.1%. Yes it is serious due to the transmission rate being higher than that of influenza, but the irrational fear being pumped out daily does nothing to help the situation. -
@Deloris Hi there, I’m 10 days post op now. I started my journey in 10/7/19. My surgeon’s office tried to push my surgery through faster than my insurance wanted so I had a set back with having my surgery postponed for two months. I was devastated at first, but took that time to look within and start to try to like myself as I was and not depending on this surgery to be a fix-all. Now, I’m grateful for that delay and the two month I spent being and gentle and loving with myself. I guess I’m trying to say is if you do have any setbacks—not that you will, but if you do— I believe, it’s for a reason. I also lost 26 pounds from Oct-March and really started eating less during that last two months. I still had a rough time with the all liquid diet for 14 days and only made it 9 days full liquids but everything went great. Wishing you the best of luck!

Shoulder pain 3 days post op
CammyC replied to Storm90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Storm90 I experienced the exact same thing!! It was terrible! I’m 10 days post-op today and it has gotten better each day but still experiencing left shoulder pain when I’m still or laying down. Day 5 or 6 post op it was so bad that night I dreamed I was having surgery on my shoulder. I spoke with my surgeon and he agreed with others on this forum, it’s gas. I googled left shoulder pain and of course the worst pooped up—gastric sleeve leak. Oh heck naw! But I had no other symptoms of a leak and only those of gas. It gets better day by day and slowly it’s going from the top of my shoulder to the front of my shoulder, IDK. It’s so strange where gas wants to hang out. -
Day 3 post op and can drink liquids so well it scares me
CammyC replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello surgery buddies! I like that we can share our experiences with each other. I’m thinking of you all and hoping you all get better in your recoveries! I got in quite a bit of walking yesterday and that makes me happy! I’m doing well on liquids and I actually had a tiny bit of butternut squash soup last night and it was amazing! I was not discreet about my surgery. All my close work peeps and friends and family know. At first, I got some negative feedback like “well I’ve heard so and so had a bad experience...” blah blah blah but I was like look this is my body and I’m excited for this change! After that, they settled down and started supporting me. I finally got my Bariatric fusion multivitamin with 45mg of Iron yesterday from Amazon and I have felt good the past two days from taking it. I’m down 10 pounds today and 36 pounds altogether with pre-op weight loss. I started about two months before surgery eating less. I was only having one meal a day and ensure max protein twice daily. I’d have a banana or cottage cheese when I felt hungry in between. I still had a rough go on the pre-op liquid diet tho, but thank Goodness that part is over! I hope you all have a great weekend! Hugs -
