  1. I can't find SF Carnation Instant Breakfast anywhere! Everyplace I've tried only has the regular kind. And does anyone know what other stores (if any) sell Isopure premade Protein drinks besides GNC?

    2 weeks post op HELP

Hi Christina! 19 lbs is great! I'm 3 weeks post op and have to say that i was very similar last week losing 20 lbs and then nothing. Of course we eat almost nothing for those 2 weeks after surgery so weight is bound to come off. After a lot of reading here, i'm probably not getting enough calories in during the course of the day. I know i wasn't getting enough Protein, but the calories were 700 - 750 or day and that maybe my body was going into store mode instead of shed mode. OOPS. So i kicked up some calories 2 days ago to about 900-1000 (Still on mushies so i'm experimenting with meals to increase a bit yet til i'm on soft food by end of the week) and i've noticed a difference just in my energy level right there. The biggest change to my diet was adding in canned chicken & tuna, BLENDED to mush with light mayo. Gives me about 140 calories plus 15 grams of protein in 2 ozs or so. I also found that after adding some food the BM's improved greatly between these two weeks & the gas is all gone now. Hang in there, you'll be moving on to the next food group soon! It did get better for me & i'm only a week ahead!!!
  3. Thank you both Deb and RandomRan for your thoughtful replies. I will begin the journal today, i think it will help. The problem i had with the Protein shakes right from pre-op until about a couple of days ago, is that they gave me pretty bad gout. I have never had gout for more than 2-3 days at a time and this episode lasted more than 3 weeks. The 2 major changes were that i was losing weight quickly and that i was drinking Protein Shakes. Natural Proteins seem to be better. I will also take up your suggestions for adding veges. i do like veggies and have been eating them, but they can be low cal and filling. Thanks again - J

Food you used to love now u hate

Eating out in general. I like it occasionally, but this week there were lots of celebrations in my family (birthdays, wedding anniversaries, Father's Day) and we ended up eating out three days in a row. Even though I got healthier options, I felt so...gross. I don't even know. I was lethargic, unmotivated to do stuff, and it was hard to get down other foods at mealtimes. We finished the celebrations and the first day eating at home was so refreshing, and honestly way more delicious and satisfying than any of the restaurant meals. Never thought I'd say that.
  8. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks post-op and a follow-up with the bariatric team. Purees are coming! Today I saw my GP about my glucose and BP. She confirmed no more diabetes meds (YAY!!!!!) but then she said something odd. She noted that my numbers are excellent on this full liquid diet, but we'd see how I do when my diet "progresses." Now, she's young and clearly still developing her bedside manner (she's awkward) but she insinuated that my diabetes would probably come back and I'd have to go back on meds once I'm on solid food. I guess I thought most docs (even GPs) would know that bariatric surgery has a high likelihood of "curing" diabetes immediately post-op, especially as our weight goes down. Mine was mild to begin with and almost controlled through diet alone. I kinda feel like she threw a bucket of cold water on me. (Getting rid of diabetes was one of my top reasons for surgery.) ANYWAY, I told her I'm consuming about 400-ish calories per day on the FL diet. And I know (I KNOW, I KNOW) we're supposed to concentrate on water and protein at this point, but I'm curious what everyone else's average per day is. Eventually I think we top out around 600-800 with 1,000-1,200 max, but anyone else willing to share where they are in the beginning stages?
  9. 1/4 cup is about what you should be eating right now. do protein first. When you eat more protein dense food you will feel the restriction more, hence the smaller amount. I wouldn't worry to much about the veggies just yet

    oh dear.....STUCK....for the first time

Here I am....happily banded almost five weeks ago on what appeared to be a normal Saturday.....normal for when I work on Saturday. Off to work I went - and in such a rush to get there today, I forgot to grab my lunch out of the fridge....hmmmm....someone always orders lunch out, so, I knew I could get something....BIG mistake! It seemed as if the entire office was ordering chinese food today, so I joined that bandwagon, and ordered steamed veggies with white rice. I thought that would be my most healthy choice. When lunch arrived, I made sure I cut up my lunch into very small bites, and chewed every bite into mush.....and then.....I guess I forgot....and my lunch was STUCK....the pain in my chest was unreal! I tried to take a sip of water and it stayed right in my throat, and I knew I had done it! To make a long, and yucky story short, and I think chinese food is a part of my past. The pain was terrible and after lots of slime and pacing the office with my hands raised above my head, I finally got some relief. I am still a bit uncomfortable, and decided on a protein shake for dinner and lots of water tonight. I guess it was going to happen sometime...sooner or later...whatever. And I am know wiser and have a little better understanding on what to do if this ever happens again (which I hope not!!)

    is it gonna work?

Thanks for the advice. I have been eating some mash potatoes and cheesy potatoes but it has only been a tablespoon. I was hoping since this was so little that it wouldn't matter. I will stop eating the carbs. I am eating mostly protein. I have eggs, chicken, turkey, shrimp. These have been mixed with light mayo and pureed. I am now off pureed foods as long as I chew everything really well. For dinner I am having some ground beef with spaghetti sauce. It is probably about 2-3 tablespoons and that is it till my snack which usually consists of canned pears, peaches, or Greek yogurt. I have a really hard time moving my bowels and I need to take laxatives. The only time I seem to lose weight is after I go. I got on the scale this morning and was down 3 lbs. which I was really happy about. But I am afraid I will just put it back on again. I am trying not to be negative and am working on a more positive attitude. I do have to put the scale away and only weigh myself once a week. Travel Guru I would love it if you would post what you eat. This would help. I think I am in a rut. It seems like I eat the same things over and over again.
  12. Has Anyone Tried These Protein Drinks? How Do They Taste?
  13. Today was my FIL's birthday and the family met at Longhorn Steakhouse for dinner. My thought was that I would just have some Soup. It turns out, they don't have soup! I eneded up getting mashed potatoes and ate a couple of tsps, maybe. It was a little odd as, although I've done lunch out with my husband and then again with my daughter, this was a whole other ballgame. My in-laws know that I had the surgery but my SIL/BIL don't, might, probably know. I wonder if they do. I'm not sure if MIL said anything. I didn't ask her not too, but, it doesn't really matter. I feel like f they didn't know, there would have been more comment on my choice. I wish I would have had more of a "plan" other than to have soup. Everyone ordered dinner plates which, when they came, seemed HUGE to me. Of course, it wasn't any more than I've ever eaten at any given time, but this time was different. The servings just seemed ginormous. My BIL asked me if I was dieting and I said yes, as always, but there was not really any more comment made on my dinner choice other than the waitress who said, "that's all you want, mashed potatoes"? I took it really slow but again, forgot about not drinking while eating. Since my plan was to order soup, I had asked for Water (which I brought crystal light for) and sipped on it while eating the MP. It took me just as long to get through those couple of bites as it did for everyone else to finish. I think using the tiny forks/spoons at home has really helped slow me down. They were certainly one ofthe best tools I have bought. I felt a little silly just ordering the MP while everyone was ordering normal, so I thought, next time, I might order a regular plate and just push the food around a bit to blend in more. Then I thought, man, that's just kinda stupid. If I would have had a better plan, I would have thought to ask for a bowl of hot water and I could have mixed the single serving packet of unjury chicken Soup that I had in my purse and would have been perfectly fine. Then if anyone asked, I could just say that I am doing a liquid Protein diet. DUH! NOTED! Another thing I notied was that closer to the end of the meal, I got slightly nauseated from the smells. It was just a little overwhelming. I wonder if I had skipped the water if it would have bothered me. So, there's my first moment out in the real world and I certainly learned a few lessons. We are now back home and I am trying to fulfill my daily protein req with having that Unjury soup. I had 2 protein shakes today so I'm getting my usual 75 gms in. YAY me!

  19. I did notice that a couple of weeks out from the surgery I started "drooping". I think it is just your body's way of catching up with the trauma of the surgery? Also protein drinks do a number on my stomach! I get kind of a sick at my stomach feeling and heartbeat starts pounding and stomach starts rolling. My nut said rapid heartbeat right after eating can be a "dump" signal from my stomach saying it does not like what I ate. I do notice that when I get the "sick at my stomach feeling" I feel better if I lay down for a while. Have you noticed anything like that? Maybe the shakes are not agreeing with your tummy?
  20. Thanks Darlis...this post is a couple weeks old. I was doing all those things you suggested, getting at least 70g Protein per day and taking all the Vitamins, including sublingual B12. I think it was just normal "jet lag" so to speak, from the detox, low low blood pressure (didn't see the drastic change happening so soon, because I didn't factor in the 'no sodium" affect of my diet...duh!!), the remnants of the anesthesia...and probably the "exhale" from having this climatic event over in my life. Anyway, for anyone else following the thread, I feel fantastic. I am starting week 5 post-op as of Thursday, 8/4/11.
  21. I had a Protein drink this morning and had to take a nap within 2 hours... Had another Protein Drink about an hour ago, and I could take another nap. What the heck? Has anyone else noticed this in the transition from clears to Protein drinks? (I'm 10 day's out). Thanks for your input, Susan
  22. I was sleeved 12/13 and was told to make all food baby food consistency. My focus is suppose to be Protein so I am not eating any carbs and only adding broth or sauce to bring to the right consistency. How much are you eating of each? I am only able to get about 1/3 a cup per meal Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I am 4 weeks now from surgery. I got my date of 12/27. I have been doing pre op since April but I ran into a health issue that took priority. Now that is taken care of this last stretch has gone quickly. I have a 2 week liquid with one meal a day. Then I have a 1 week liquid only up to surgery. Of course after surgery is the two week post op liquid and then adding in purée food for week three. I don’t know where to start and everything is so expensive. I have gotten some of the stuff I will need but none of it food or the Protein Drinks and shakes. That part I am actually finding rather overwhelming on what to get and how much And advice from anyone?
  24. Yeah, I really didn’t mean food lol. I was meaning the drinks and broth. But that is good to know so I will get for the 3 weeks preop then I can do one week at a time post. I was thinking of getting a variety of flavor protein drinks since like you said some tastes change. I have been hearing that from everyone. Preop I will do protein shakes, chicken broth, SF drink mixed and popsicles. So post op I will do chicken broth, popsicles, a small pack of unflavored protein powder to add to water, and my sugar free drink mixes(like crystal light). wow that seems so much easier. Thanks for helping me think through a kind of shopping list.
  25. Thank you, sadly most of my visits have been virtual because I live so far away from my dr office, so samples are not given 😒 hopefully post op they will give me some. I will check out the syntrx line as I have seen others. Most of the “name” drinks have been suggested not required. It was also suggested that I get unflavored protein powder since tastes change and it is the best to mix with just water or flavored water to get my protein in. I am actually sitting here getting my stuff ordered as I write this. I am a bit closer but I think I will feel better once I get my vitamins and drink in the house thank you for the help
