What are you all eating one plus year out and how many calories are you consuming. i had my year evaluation (I went from 330 pounds to 180 pounds) and she was pleased with my progress (apparently I surpassed the others in my group with excess weight lost which is a great feeling!) however she seemed a bit upset over the quantities of food I am eating. she said I should be getting 1,700 calories a day. I just don’t see how that’s possible! My restriction is still very much a thing and I just can’t eat that much. I compromised by telling her I would eat breakfast (I usually just have a nonfat coffee and that fills me up), she told me to introduce that back in and track my calories. So… I did. you guys I am only getting 1,000 calories in a day! And that was WITH breakfast. I have found that I am finally getting hungry on occasion (I haven’t felt hunger for a year now ) and my volume has increased slightly, but nowhere near enough to fit in 1700 calories! My protein count is fine. I got 80 grams of protein today (I have some lingering medical issues so my protein count has to be lower than the norm). I don’t eat junk. This is kind of an average day: scrambled egg, coffee, P3 pack, yogurt (no sugar Greek yogurt), chicken/fish with some veggies (but I usually can’t eat more than a bite or two of veggies) and I might have a few nuts or half a cheese stick for snacks. It will only become more difficult because I am getting Invisalign and my desire to snack is going to be zero because I don’t want to brush my teeth a zillion times a day. i need good ideas on getting my calories up!

Talk to me about purees...
KristenLe replied to leebick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@leebick Refried Beans with cheese (and sour cream) don't have to be pureed - they are the right consistency already. I would blend chili though. I refuse to puree meats too - and my plan suggests drinking Protein shakes during this time and not expecting to get protein from the purees. You could have hummus, blended/cream soups (no Pasta or rice though), cottage cheese, yogurt, egg salad, ricotta bake, mexican dip bake, buffalo chicken dip bake (use the canned chicken and blend it first), -
How can any stand the taste of greek yogurt?
CBL replied to warrior68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They gave it to me in the hosp day after surgery and I couldnt handle it... a few days later I actually like it. I eat the Fage 0% plain, and it doesn't bother me that much. Then again, I am 13 days post op and just rotate cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and baby food meats. If it works, I just dont mess with it. -
LOL I know exactly what you mean about opening and closing the fridge! It it becoming a challenge, I'm trying to find more choices of high protein food..I can't even look at a shake right now, and I have enough yogurt for an Alaskan winter! Oh well, this is what we signed up for, right? Have to just do it for now

And the WTH have I done feeling has hit
TijuanaPlication replied to amw's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I found Yoplait yogurt drinks to be great when I moved to full liquids. They have a resealable lid so you can just sip a little as and when I got hungry. Fermented milk (ie yogurt) is generally well tolerated even by those with lactose issues. Maybe something like that will help you. All the best - you've not got long until mushies - although it seems like an eternity!! -

3 Days Post Op.....
Kate Erdosy replied to Deleted Profile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out. No nausea, not much pain, no BM yet, first visit today. 6 lbs in 1 week - a bit disappointing, but 12 if I count preop. I'm not feeling much restriction at all when I drink. I may get a tiny bit of pressure, but that's it. I'm starting to wonder if I still have my stomach in there. I am allowed greek yogurt this week and oatmeal, but only 2 ounces. No problems eating those. Am I crazy? Did anyone else have such a smooth road the first week and after eating the first small amounts? I'm not ungrateful at all, but just beginning to wonder. -
I can't stop losing weight
elcee replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is something I have wondered about. Probably the easiest way to add in calories is to swap low fat varieties for full fat. So if you currently eat lf yogurt and milk try the full fat versions. Eat healthy fats like avocados and nuts etc. I have seen a number of posts on fb lately with photos of people that have got to a BMI of 18 and all the responses have been great, well done etc. What concerns me is that no one seems worried that for an adult a BMI of 18 is very low (even though it is technically in the healthy range). I think it would be very easy to become addicted to the high of losing weight and ignore the signs that a person may be getting too thin. I am glad that you are addressing this. -
Nom Nom Nom - Yasso Greek Froz Yog Bars - 6g prot & 80 cal
NMJG posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Just tried these - awesome snack with protein that makes you feel guilty it tastes so good, and it's easy on the sleeve regardless of where you are in your journey. 6 g Protein 80 calories 14 carbs 1 fat Yasso brand Greek Frozen Yogurt bars - I tried coconut. Yum! Tastes like coconut ice cream. They come in other flavors, too. Found them in my grocery store freezer section (Smith's). I wouldn't eat these every day to fill my protein needs, but for the occasional snack that tastes divine and still is weightloss friendly, this will do the trick. No, I'm not affiliated with Yasso -

Three days post surgery, and I'm freaking out...
lapband88 replied to MediaGurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 8/20, 3rd day post op for me. I am feeling like you do and thought I made a mistake!!! I can't keep ANY fluids down (water, chicken broth, gatorade) so I am feeling sick because I guess I am dehydrated as well. I can't even swallow 1/4 of a pill as it seems to get stuck in my chest and it hurts bad... then it will regurgitate and I will end up vomiting to feel better... Does anyone have advice for me? I am seeing my doctor in the morning... I went walking just now and ate some yogurt while I was at it, it did make me feel better, some regurgitation but the feeling of swelling is less now... I hope things will be better ASAP as I am losing hope.... -

Banded Feb 9th, my journey
Platinum replied to Platinum's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I felt pretty good the day after my surgery. My youngest is 9 years old so it was a lot easier for me. You won't be able to pick your 3 year old up and you have to be careful so they don't accidently hit you in your stomach. Also, it hurts a little bit by the port site when you bend a certain way. I don't notice it much anymore but the first week you will notice that discomfort when you bend over to tie shoes or something similar. Other than that, you should be fine. The mental hunger will still be there when you cook dinner but you will be able to handle it. Just be mentally prepared for that struggle and have juice nearby to drink. I walk around with a Water bottle full of either Crystal Light or Propel flavored water. My husband even made a comment about how much I am drinking now. I just feel like it is my security blanket right now. When I feel hungry, I take some sips and I feel better. I only had to drink Clear Liquids for 3 days and then I moved on to full liquids like drinkable yogurt and Protein shakes. Your stomach will make a lot of noise the first week after surgery but it does settle down. I have those chicken broth boullion squares in my purse so that I can drop one into a cup of hot water and have a little sip of something warm. I also drink sugar free hot cocoa in the morning or whenever when I feel deprived. The hardest thing at first is smelling food knowing that you can't take a bite. It does get easier with time and soon I will be able to eat solid foods. The band does not restrict against liquids so you will feel some hunger even after you drink something. Once you start eating solid foods, you should feel fuller longer. I am still in my liquid/mushy food phase. I will say that I blended up some spaghetti with extra sauce and it was pretty good. You will get creative with foods in that healing phase. NO chewing as the band is still healing. Good luck to you. -
I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
GummyTummy replied to Loristi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lori, You won't really feel much restriction with anything liquid. Your stomach is basically a funnel right now for Soups, and shakes. The same holds true for yogurt. The reason you feel full with the egg is it is slightly more dense. =) You are doing fine, just keep in mind as you move to soft foods to keep that slow pace you are using on the yogurt -
Portion size for puree stage?
Amie replied to amytug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1/4 cup is perfect for me with things like refried beans, chili, and egg salad. I can almost get 1/2 of cottage cheese and yogurt in. It's still hard for me to tell if and when I'm full so I have to measure so I don't get that over full feeling. -
I use the unflavored unjury in 6-8 oz of skim milk and a tbsp of your favorite fat free/sugar free instant pudding. I love pistachio myself. I also add it to Happy Planet drinkable yogurts. Also very YUMMY! :hungry:

Any Long-Term (4-5 yrs+) Bandsters Out There
Carlene replied to fabfatgrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm only 18 months post-op, but a woman in my real time support group was banded 6 years ago (FDA trials) and lost 210 pounds. She recently had a slip repair and got a new (VG) band. Now she is working her way up to the "sweet spot" again. She only gained 15 pounds during the time (6 months, I think) that she was unfilled. She still maintains that she will go to the grave with her band intact, as long as it's humanly possible. I have lost 97 pounds and am within 10 pounds of my goal weight. I weigh less than 130 and wear a size 4, certainly way better than 50% of excess weight lost. I understand your feelings about the band. There is a lot of drama involved - a lot of stuff that, in many ways, makes food even more of an issue than it was pre-band. I can't have a tiny kid's cup of yogurt at 4:30 or I won't be able to eat dinner. No steak for me at cook out time - no hot dogs, either. Everything is a trade-off...it all has its price. I'm good with my choice to keep the band, and keep it filled pretty tight. And I'm good with everyone else's choice, too. It's your body....only you can decide what do do with it. -
Thank god for Papaya enzyme and aloe vera...and thanks Kathy, too!!
housecatgirl replied to housecatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks so much Kathy! Yes! It was you...you aloe junkie.:clap2: How long should I stay this tight before I know it's time for an unfill?:rolleyes My TOM is next week so I am thinking maybe I should wait until the following week and see if the combo of possible weight drop and TOM being over will open me up a little.:phanvan I will try to stick with liquids. Should it be clear liquids or are shakes/yogurt, creamy soup type stuff ok? -

the best me replied to housecatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, wait till after next week when the TOM has passed you by. And Full liquids...not just clear. Egg Drop Soup is great, any cream Soups (blended), yogurt, thin mashed potatos, guacamole, etc etc. Keep it super soft with small bites and ride this out. If it doesn't get better, time for a small unfill. That's what I think anyway. If you have a hunch I'm off-base, or something just isn't right, call your doc. Don't listen to some bloke on the internet, okay? Drink your aloe vera ! LOL -

Had my sleeve one week ago today and feel great. Each day is getting better. I have no problems getting my fluids in, and mixing up my full fluids to keep it interesting with creamed Soups, yogurt, etc. Protein Shakes are getting easier to tolerate each day as well. On day of surgery, I was 283.1, and this morning I was 266.6! Looking forward to continuing the journey -
Soft Foods Help
Bruce Peter replied to kcdavidson42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
stick with protein for now, and chew the heck out of it. I think bananas are too heavy. try cottage cheese, greek yogurt, soft veggies, etc -
My experience is a lot like Rosana's. I had some minor nausea right after the surgery but they gave me a patch and that made things much better. I basically only ate ice chips the first day. I tried a bite of jello and tried some broth but they didn't taste good. The second day I was put on full liquids so I had yogurt and pudding for breakfast. I went home around noon and stayed on my pain meds for another 24 hours. Liquids have been a challenge but finally easier today. I felt really empty, not hungry just empty, until yesterday. I made some pudding with protein and that helped take away that feeling. Honestly I wasn't walking around as much as I should but finally got out yesterday and that made a huge difference to relieve the bloated feeling in my abdomen area. The gas pain was never that bad for me, basically discomfort. Overall things have gone pretty smoothly. I have no regrets. Good luck, you are going to do great!
