Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
LuckyCat replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey, y'all! I'm down about 75 lbs from my highest weight (around Thanksgiving), and down about 60 lbs from my surgery weight on December 2nd. That puts me at the halfway point toward my realistic goal (i.e., not the "medically ideal" weight of 115, which I haven't seen since, like, 5th grade, lol). The weight is coming off a little slower than I'd prefer, but the non-scale victories are undeniable. My A1C dropped from 8.8 to 6.4, and I expect it to continue improving. I flew to NYC in May and was reasonably comfortable in a coach seat — no seat belt extender necessary! Plus, I walked all over the city for days, and found myself energized, not exhausted. I think best of all, I'm actually enjoying exercise for the first time in my life. It feels like a pleasure, not a punishment. I'm doing everything from the step machine to (tragically slow) jogging, yoga to Beat Saber on the Oculus. Just last October, I was too out of shape to take my kids trick-or-treating, and had to sit down on the curb to keep from hyperventilating. So, the change is dramatic! I do have more hunger than I would have anticipated. I can easily eat 2,000 kcal a day if I don't police it. I can eat only small quantities at a time, of course, but find myself ravenously hungry an hour later. I try to focus on protein and healthy fats, which helps. Also, food in general feels less like an emotional coping mechanism than just fuel to keep me going; it's less thrilling than it used to be, which is refreshing. For me at least, bypass is a good tool, but still involves willpower and intent — which I can live with. So glad to hear from y'all, and to know you're here. -
Since the day I talked about wanting to have a surgery, my husband said NO. I tried to give him as much information as I possibly could, I told him I was scared of the surgery but I was also scared because I could feel the weight increasing. We watched videos together and each time he was more against it. Then I told him I was going to do it anyway, I asked him that if he was not supportive at least not to remind me all that could go wrong. So I did it. I cannot say I was not surprised when he was making my teas and chicken broth and getting me protein shakes, even taking walks with me, he was following all the instructions even better than I did. My guess is that he was still worried and wanted to be sure I was ok after surgery, we have adjusted, now the surgery is not the only thing in our minds, he loves that he can hug me like when I was the girlfriend 25 years ago, but he does not want to go to walks with me anymore, he says is too hot outside. So maybe, give him time...

I hate protein drinks! Any protein pills?
Nashalyt replied to lexie007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am making three months out but the protein I used to drink at first was the premier protein chocolate cause that’s the only one I liked but after a while I would throw it up. So I changed it to an organic chocolate protein which was way better. It didn’t have a diet taste to it like the premier protein did. 100% would recommend. -
I hope everything works out for you on both of your procedures! Have you considered turning your protein yogurt into a smoothie? Perhaps adding some water and add protein powder would help satiate your hunger for a bit. Would they allow you to have Liquid Protein that you can put in your water? Talk to your nutritionist and see if they have ideas or recipes you can create.

That's awesome! I hope you find the liquid protein a life saver! I much prefer it in the SF Jello. I have lemon electrolytes that I put in my water, so mixing the cherry flavor with the lemon makes for a tasty water to drink

Now that I am into my clear liquids, I'm definitely a lot hungrier. I woke up in the middle of the night with my stomach rumbling and I never do that. I was able to fortify the organic chicken broth with some of that Better than Bouillion stock and it made it taste a lot better. I'm not a big fan of SF jello, but it has become my friend. Adding enough protein to the date seems to help satiate for a bit. The clear-liquid time is definitely more challenging. Hang in there - you've got this!!

I’ve been on my liquid diet for the past four days and I am sooo hungry! I’m limited to protein shakes and high protein yogurts. I’m so sick of them already! Also, I found out yesterday that my surgery authorization didn’t go through so I’m supposed to find out today if my surgeon will do the hiatal hernia repair; that way I can self pay for the bypass part of the surgery. My surgery scheduler quoted me $2600 for the bypass portion and that’s very doable for me! Now I just have to wait and see if my doctor will go ahead with the hernia repair! 🙏🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
125 down is just amazing! I do get the occasional day of bad eating - not too many - but I try to get back on the horse the next day with protein first, which has worked so far. Vacations are difficult - eating goes all topsy-turvy. Good luck with the 10lbs this month - that was almost my maximum rate of loss right after surgery!! It's about a pound a week now but I'm happy with that. How much more would you like to lose in total @ForMyOhana? -
Considering lapband nervious but need help loseing weight and keep off
kcuster83 replied to Bulletproof's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon doesn't even offer the lap band. Sleeve, Bypass and DS were my only options with him. -
Ready made ones for me are Premier protein, they have ton's of flavors. But, before surgery I liked a few different flavors and after surgery I seem to only like the chocolate. They all have the same consistency and texture but the taste now taste chemically. Also, Fairlife shakes. I actually don't prefer the chocolate but everyone else raves about it. Strawberry is my favorite by far and the caramel is good mixed with 8oz of caffeine free black coffee. Fairlife are impossible to find around me now so I mainly drink the premier. Both 30g protein Powders, I feel like never mix properly and always taste gritty. I even have a real blender to mix them and still odd texture for me. I do however like the Unjury brand powder, it mixes very well. I prefer the convenience of the premade shakes though. I do like how you can get more creative with the powders though, so I keep it on hand to change things up a bit when needed. My favorite is sugar free lemonade mixed with strawberry Unjury powder. I use about 10 oz. of lemonade when I make them and it thins them out so it is like having a drink rather than a thicker shake. 20g protein per scoop

Advice Needed: BPD/DS or SADI?
The Greater Fool replied to jenniferann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What makes you think I'm offended? I was trying to convey that you made some good points for one of the surgeries you are considering and you actually seem to have made up your mind already. WLS is for life. I would always choose the option that has a better, long enough track record. I might miss out on the newest, bestest surgery ever, but I may also miss out on having a surgery that does longer term damage or longer term lackluster results. But more important than what the internet (that's me too) may think is the "bestest surgery eva!" is how will the effects of a particular WLS fit in with your needs, lifestyle, health issues and goals. We can't tell you that. I think you know your mind already. Good luck, Tek -
Not quite what you asked but, by far my favorite has been collagen/Bone broth powder, 20g protein for 20g powder 90 calories, and unlike whey protein, it doesn't curdle at high temps. Has a very mild "dusty" flavor which you can't taste at all, I put it in everything, coffee, soups (broth, tomato, chicken), recipes with sauce like pulled pork, cooked fruit, apple sauce, mashed potato, jelly(jello), spagettios, beans. You name it I add it. 3 weeks out I was having it added to mashed potato, strained chicken noodle and broth a lot (plans vary). Protein shake-wise, not sure if you have it in the US but I like Ufit shakes a lot, especially the Fudge Brownie. Grenade is more calorie-dense but there very good. No premier protein in the UK always jealous as it's the most youtube recommended.

It’s likely not a stall because you’ve been plateaued for so long. Stalls usually last 1-3 weeks You may have reached your body’s set point. The weight at which your body is happiest &/or your consuming the calories your body needs to function at this weight. I ate 1300 calories & maintained at 49kg for a good year. I eat 1400 calories now (because of additional protein) & maintain at 51kg. Like @catwoman7 said you could lose more if you reduced your calories (& upped your activity) but is a lower intake sustainable? Only you know that. And remember not everyone reaches a healthy BMI. (BMI should be used as a guide not a rule anyway.) it’s got to be a weight that healthy for you & your life. But, have a chat with your dietician & see what advice they can offer.

Wow! Way to go! I saw some of the things you bought and it inspired me to buy them also....like the cheddar broccoli soup and liquid protein. I've been trying to do liquids until dinner to prepare for my full liquid diet.

Advice Needed: BPD/DS or SADI?

I just had a sleeve revision to SADI on July 21. So far so good. I did a lot of research as well and decided that I preferred the simpler less risky option. -
Considering lapband nervious but need help loseing weight and keep off
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Bulletproof's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can speak to this from personal experience. Please reconsider getting a Lap Band. I had one and it didn't turn out well. There's way better weight loss options available than Lap Band. -
I did manage to lose 7lbs the first week and I didnt do anything drastic. For me the key to it all is sustainability. I am contemplating going back on the unjury protein shakes to atleast have on hand. I really liked them and they were effective meal replacements.

Considering lapband nervious but need help loseing weight and keep off
catwoman7 replied to Bulletproof's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
not sure where you live, but lapband is rarely done in the US anymore - it's largely been replaced by the sleeve (VSG) as the non-RNY option. -
Yes, I did a full liquid before attempting the clear liquid. Clear liquids aren't as satisfying, but you can also use some of your creamy soups and add more water to qualify as a liquid. My go-to proteins were several different types to keep me from being bored: 1) Keto Chow shakes made with 8 oz unsweetened coconut almond milk 2) Premiere protein shakes 3) Unflavored AGN Roots Grass-fed whey (to put in soups or smoothies) 4) Liquid protein to put into water and my SF jello 5) Power Life High Impact Whey Protein (kinda sweet, so I mix it into coffee or a SF carnation drink mix)

June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had RNY on 6/8 with type IV hernia repair and gall bladder removal. I was 223 the day of surgery. I’m thrilled to be at 183 today. I’m started to feel less tired and lethargic just this past week although, the first 2 weeks post op I was full of energy. I started my Vitamins, I’m doing the Water thing just fine, and I’m getting my protein using https://protgold.com/ I used it a few years ago after surgery and it is a miracle worker for me. I have absolutely learned that I do not metabolize artificial sweeteners. When I eliminated them, my stall ended. I also stopped the Premier shakes and began using the pro-t to meet my Protein requirements. I mix it in my water and I’m killing two birds with one stone. I’ve been craving cucumbers and I am enjoying them with hummus. No salad yet for me. I still don’t have any appetite, but my head craves things…that just takes discipline on my part. I love Soup and the Bariatric Advantage chicken Soup is something I really enjoy. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi guys - we've done 8 months now, how are you all doing? I like this thread because I can look back and see my journey - never did a thread all to myself. All good here - I'm 8 months and a week post op, current weight 173 and total loss 103lbs. BMI 25.5. In the last month I have averaged a loss of 1.25lbs a week, which I'm thrilled with. Ideally I would love to lose another stone but that's in the lap of the gods. Either way I'm extremely happy to have had this procedure. Eating a bit more (volume-wise) in the last few weeks as my hunger has properly returned now - it never really left, but I had a few weeks of what I called full-hunger, when I had eaten what would have filled me up before but it just didn't any more, even if I waited 40 minutes or so, so I've been upping the portion sizes - just a little - and I'm feeling properly full again. I suspect this is going to be a pattern until I reach my new weight. I'm eating more or less all foods now - still protein first veg second most of the time but I have had occasional bread, no pasta no rice but a small slice or two of pizza etc. and it's all sitting well with me. Trying to average 1200 calories a day still but at weekends I go over that and I'm not beating myself up about it. Would love to hear from you all - or at least the people who are still visiting this board 8 months on. Hope you're having the time of your lives - I certainly am. -

Thanks for giving us the run down of your mock trial! I may have to do the same! You did a full liquid diet right before your clear liquid diet? Whats your go-to for protein drinks?
