  1. That's an NSV if I've ever seen it!
  2. SleeveToBypass2023

    What am I doing wrong?

That's how I am. Sometimes we have to remember that slow and steady wins the race. I lost 30 pounds in the first 2 weeks after surgery. Now I am 7 months out, and I lose MAYBE 2 pounds a week. Sometimes 3. And my stalls went from 2 weeks to 3 to 4. Every 6 weeks or so, I hit another one. When It breaks, I drop like 5 or 6 pounds. Then it goes back to inching along until my next stall. It's really frustrating, but what you want to do is focus on your NSV (Non Scale Victories). Does your face look smaller? Are your clothes getting looser? Do your rinds feel bigger? Can you move around better? When the scale isn't doing what we want it to, we have to look to see what our bodies are doing. THAT's where you'll get a more complete picture of what's happening.

    NSV- Seatbelts

My seatbelt in my car finally has give! I have some wiggle room! I can reach forward to change the radio without it choking me!! I'm glad for this NSV I noticed, since I didn't move any pounds this last week.

    Nsv...(Non Scale Victory)

I can cross my legs!!!! I can cross my legs..like a WOMAN!! WHOOO-HOOOO! It does not look perfect,(as in.. back of knee is not, FLUSH against top of knee) BUT the fact that I'm capable to in any fashion, is AMAZING! Just had to share..Can't remember the last time I was able to <3
  5. Healthy_life2

I was brave enough to do..?

@@OKCPirate Love your NSV ideas. You have to tell us how it all worked out. Starting weight..oh yes staying afloat would be an issue Current weight I had to lift my butt out of the middle of the innertube lay flat on my back to reach the Water. It was the only way I could paddle and navigate down the river. Maybe I shrunk in height with my WLS.

An NSV I may never top!

Thanks a lot dude! You got me over here about to cry, big, huge manly tears of course. I know what you mean about being the embarrasing fat dad. Thats why im trying to do this now before my boy gets older. That is one helluva NSV, Congrats!

    Bathtub NSV

    Great NSV !!!!
  10. I am a slower loser than you. I am one month post-op and have only lost 16 lbs. But in thinking about it, I lost an average of 0.5 lbs a day. Wow! now lets see, you lost 47 lbs in 60 days... that is an average of 0.8 lbs a day. Perspective is what we need sometimes. Are you walking? Have you tried increasing your calories by trying a different kind of shake that has more calories in it? Maybe you need to snack on fruits and veggies between meals to get some extra stuff in. You can always do the "5 day pouch test" to get the scale moving again. Are you losing inches? Have you allowed yourself to notice any NSV's? Relax and enjoy. Don't be hard on yourself and certainly don't compare yourself to any one else. There is only one you and no one else is like you. You are one of a kind! Shae

    New Buffet

My neighbor got jealous and bought a motorcycle so he could join us. Now he blames it all on me for getting him hooked. Oops. So Chris, CJ and I went out to dinner, then cruised the Strip on our bikes. And the biggest NSV in the world... I GOT FLIRTED WITH BY A WHOLE CAR OF GUYS! I was at a red light alone on my bike (CJ & Chris yapping a few yards behind me) and a taxi full of young cuties were asking me to rev my engine for them! Chris noticed I was getting flirted with and zoomed up to ruin my fun. Jeolous husband is a fun NSV! Then we picked up Chloe, and she snuggled in the recliner with me eating junk food and watching a scary movie. She spent the night and is still sleeping, and she's helping me take Sachi and Milo to the vet for shots. The rest of the weekend is up in the air, but it's gonna involve motorcycles and spending money we don't have. Next weekend Chris and I, along with friends, Darren & Tina, are going on a road trip to California. Chris & Darren are riding their motorcycles.... AND THIS JUST IN... Penni, Chris is finishing the trailor so I can bring my bike on the back of my truck. We'll park the trailer in Lance's culdesac (I hope.) I'm tired of figuring stuff out so I'm leaving it up to Chris.

    Who's small?

Congrats on the weight loss. What a great feeling it is when snuggling with hubs/boyfriend and feeling so close. I love this too. Yeah, self perception is a tricky thing and I think that most people struggle with trying to see ourselves as others see us (small or tiny for example). It has taken me awhile to adjust to my reflection, but like other things it gets more "normal" feeling as time passes by. In the mean time, enjoy all of the little nsvs that occur and keep on plugging towards goal. You will be there before you know it.

    My First Nsv!!!

Even though I just had surgery on Monday, I've already had a non scale victory! When I logged today's weight into my fitness pal, it said because I had lost more than 10 pounds, they had to recalculate my goals. I know my calorie goal was over 1300 (which I thought was a bit much) but now it's down 1240. I'm totally psyched! I'm not logging my food right now because I'm just on full liquids. I'm nowhere close to the amount of calories I should be having, so I don't see the sense in it. I love this app!!

Today is My One Year Bandiversary

i feel stupid! what is NSV?

NSV is a non scale victory Something that you achieved that does not have a number attached to it.
  17. WOW, That is amazing! $10 for a hot dog lunch. Just kidding, congratulations on the amazing amount of walkingyou did and your NSVs.

Will it ever start to work?

Hi Jini, chances are, it will start working for you soon. Trust me when I say that I don't know if you will lose weight. I've lost 13 pounds since April, so that is a chance that you might be a slow loser. I know that there are few things as frustrating as having weight loss surgery, then not losing any weight. I understand the frustration and the feelings of failure that come with slow weight loss. Do not let the scale dictate to you your sucess. I know, easy words to type, but for your own sense of sanity, you must find some other way to measure your sucess. I strongly suggest starting your list of Non-scale victories, your NSVs. You don't have to post them, but I find it is very helpful to look back at them, and I know that other people find them helpful to look at as well. I wish I could make it all better, make it so you had losses in the numbers like you are looking for. But all I can tell you is that you are not alone. As hard as it is, you are not alone.
  19. Hi All, I just wanted to share that I am 4 months out and am definately noticing the change in my body. Yesterday I pulled out of my closet 2 shirts that I wore around the winter time, they were so big I had to give them away. My home scale shows another 7 pound lost, BUT I want to wait till it's official on my doctors scale. My doctor's office sees me every 7-8 weeks so my next visit is the middle of August, I will record my weight loss then. I'm currently at 1.85cc after my second fill and I don't think I need another adjustment, but we will see what he says.

    NSV

This will be the first post in my new journal. I find that I am a slow loser. Sucks. I was banded Oct. 27 and am only down 16 lbs. About half of that was in the first 2 weeks on the clear/full liquids. I have been exercising the past month though and can tell the difference in the way my clothes fit. I have some pants that are just flat too big now. The janitor at my school told me I looked thinner today......there is hope.

    It's my one year anniversary!

Hey Gang! Well it's been a year. Hard to believe. I'm feeling great. I've lost 109 lbs from my top weight and 87lbs since surgery. I was hoping to have lost another 10 to 20 lbs but I don't think that is going to happen. Once I hit the weight I'm at now, I just totally stopped losing weight. I think our bodies know where we are suppose to be and just stop there. I'm ok if I don't lose anymore. I'm in a size 7/8 or 9/10 depending on the clothes. I pretty much eat whatever I want now but just try to be mindful of what I'm putting in my mouth. I can definitely eat more than I used to right after surgery. Right after surgery and up until about 5 or 6 months after I could eat about 1/3 cup of chili. I now can eat 1 cup. I still try to make protein my first choice and try to keep my carbs down to a minimum. I rarely eat bread now, so sandwhiches/burgers etc aren't part of my diet. Bread is one of the things I don't digest well now and I'm glad because it used to be one of my weaknesses. My tastes have definitely changed. I don't care for fried food at all. I used to love fried chicken or anything fried. Now, I hate the taste. Not because I can't eat it, but my tastes have honestly changed. I love salads and Dr. Aceves gave me the ok to eat them. For all of you contemplating or just beginning your journey. Life does become very normal again. Actually for the first time in 30 years I feel normal. I don't constnatly think about eating, I don't eat until I feel like I'm going to explode. I told my doc..."This must be what normal people feel like"! I've had some great NSV's over the last year. One that comes to mind is not being recognized more than once. A casual aquaintance asked me if I was "Barbara's" sister because I looked just like her. lol I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. I explained that I was "Barbara" just a smaller version. lol In all honestly, this surgery changed my life. I couldn't be happier. I would do it over in a heart beat. Best wishes to all my sleeve sisters and brothers! Barb
  22. Two months is not really a long time ot be on a plateau. My DH was on a long plateau, like more than 6 months before he started losing again. I won't denigh that you are not happy not losing. But I think with all the great success you've had, you expect things to continue the way they were before. I think at this point its' a good time to step back, and reassess what you are doing. Where you have been, review that list of NSVs. I think it is also time to look at your original goal. It is only a number, meaning less in and of itself. You are nowhere near being the same person you were before you started this band journey. Maybe it is time to reassess. Have your body composition measured. Have that consult with the plasitc surgeon too see how much of your excess weight is actually skin and not body fat. Please don't drive yourselves crazy with woring about 10 measily pounds. Especially when that 10 pounds might be muscle. I mean, you have all worked really hard to get where you are. Perhaps you are already "there" and don't know it. The BMI scale lies. The scales lie. And frequenly, our brains lie too. We have this idea that we will be oh so happy when we are size (insert number here) but when we reach (insert number here) we are no happier than we were when we were (insert bigger number here). Perhaps it is because I cannot lose weight that I have a different perspective. Perhaps there is somepart of me that is bitter and angry that Ya'll have had success where it is denighed to me, will be denighed to me. Oh, and Mandy is doing F.A.B.

    How did you know???

I was way less afraid of those things, which, afterall are easily rectified by removing the band, than I was of major major surgery and having my insides re-routed. Being a relatively modest BMI of 35 meant that that option would probably not be available to me anyway, if they did gastric bypass in Australia anymore. I also dont care to lose a ton of weight in a very short amount of time, look like a corpse and have a problem with loose skin. I love love love my band. I am living a completely normal life, just one in which I eat a bit less. I eat way less junk, but I eat out, I eat with family, I sometimes eat yummy things for a treat, I can exercise (I've started running again, a MAJOR NSV for me), its simply the best thing I ever did. If I should lose it one day due to a complication, well I guess I'll face that when I come to it. I think I would see how I went without it for a while - I only have 1.3 ml in my band and no real restriction, much of what I've achieved has come from conscious behaviour modifcation. I'd have to say the band's major influence on my has been psychological - I dont expect to fail, therefore I dont.
