I'm stalled now and keep stalling. I lose 2lbs and stall for 4 weeks. It's getting frustrating. I had surgery April 2 and am down 62lbs. Nothing breaks my stalls.

Travel for work after surgery
AZhiker replied to CheerfulLoser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you mean long distance travel or just driving back and forth to the office? I was back to nursing 2 weeks after surgery, but made sure not to exceed my lifting restriction. I was driving my stick shift just fine. As long as you are not on narcotic pain meds you should be able to drive within a couple of weeks. Long distance, though, would be a more of a worry, because of blood clot risk. I wore compression stockings every day, started walking the day of surgery, and was up to 10,000 steps a day 2-3 weeks post op, and I STILL got a blood clot in my leg! Eating was not a problem right away, as it is mostly broths and protein shakes at first. However, several months down the road, I cannot take "real" food to work because i can't eat it with my half hour lunch break. So I take a protein shake or soup - something easy to slide down. -
I am on week three and my nutrition plans for soft foods includes any ground meats with sauce. I did have a little bit of spaghetti sauce with italian sausage (1/4 cup) and had no problem and I really chewed and chewed and until it was really soft mush. I also had ground chicken patties, chewed them really well and they went down fine. My NUT says their soft plan is to help us acclimate to chewing our food really well, eating slow and making sure all foods we eat are very moist. By chewing, we add a lot of saliva to our food and it makes it easier to go down. I had pork tenderloin a couple of nights ago that was super moist, but I took really small bites, chewed and chewed (I don't count chews or anything) and had no problem with that either. I read here though that people who are in the phase of eating regular foods still have issues. Some foods are just not going to agree with you. I think if we diligently follow the plans designed for us by our surgeons or nutritionists and try different foods, we find out what works for us and what does not.

You are reeeeally early to be eating beef. At 3 weeks I was still on protein shakes and creamed soups. I don't know what plan you've been given, so I'm not saying you're breaking the rules or anything, but it's not a real wonder that you feel bad. Once that happens it usually subsides in a half an hour, (for me, anyway). There's not much you can do to speed it up either. I agree that lying down would be bad. I hope you feel better soon. Do NOT drink anything until you can tell the food has cleared out, or you will go from bad to worse.

I was moved to soft foods at 3 weeks and ground beef was allowed for me. My NUTs encouraged flaky fish, soft cheese, ground beef, refried Beans for Protein in that order at that stage. They recommended trying chicken last. My first meal was Wendy's chilli. For me, I had very little trouble with any foods. I would wait a couple of weeks and try the ground beef again then. Go back to fish for a few days. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Feeling blah....
freelee replied to christina.banks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Christina, I'm in the exact same boat. My surgery was June 16. I have started refried beans and yogurt to suppliment the protein drink, but still have never since surgery hit my 60 g of protein or 64 oz of water. Pre-surgery diet was 2 weeks of protein drinks only, and I did fine......but I could drink them much faster. Now it is very hard to get them down. I see the nutritionist tomorrow and hope to get some pointers. I'm sure this is what is making me feel blah also. -

During the first few weeks it can be hard meeting the requirements but then it gets easier with time. Find a Protein shake you can tolerate. I would blend in a half a banana into my Muscle Milk Light (vanilla cream) powder using Water and my Ninja blender and it help to make the protein shake tolerable. The important thing is to experiment. [The banana does not count against your meal allotment.] -
By the way, I forgot to say that my Aria says my body weight went up this week (!) by 2.2%. What gives?! Have been eating healthy!

Everyone's weight loss is different. But weight loss does and will slow down as you get smaller. This is because your BMI is reducing as you age and as you get lighter. So the amount of calories you were burning 7 weeks ago, is higher than it is right now.

I started my liquid diet yesterday and I have had a splitting headache since yesterday afternoon. I got home from work last night, fed my kids dinner and went straight to bed because I thought I was going to die. My head is still killing me. Has anyone else had this problem? If this continues I don't know what I will do because I know I won't be able to last 2 weeks with this pain. I have been drinking all of my required items from the doctor so I am supposedly getting all of my necessary nutrition and I have been taking my Vitamins and Calcium. HELP!!!!!!

Some Foods Making Me Sick
DogMom3 replied to Jbr043's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 5 weeks post op and all of a sudden these past few days I can't seem to tolerate milk either but cheese goes down fine too....doesn't make any sense to me, but I do remember my Nutritionalist saying that if something doesn't agree with you, try it again in a few weeks. I have switched over to Vanilla Silk milk light in the meantime and it goes down fine. Strangest thing. Good luck to you! -
i am assuming that it would take overeating on a regular basis to stretch the pouch..is that right? a little background... i am 1 month 1 week out from surgery. we are currently in the process of selling our house and buying another. i am a comfort eater. so i have been incredibly stressed and recognized last night i was eating more then i should. i think i probably have been a few other times. now i am freakin out that i may have stretched my pouch or ruined something. please help! suggestions? advice? oh, i have in this bad time also taken a few sips of something while eating. i know, i know, i know.... and one more thing...i find myself drinkin more then just sips. i will drink several swallows at once. i try not to, but sometimes i just dont think about it until i am done and then its "oh crap". it never hurts or anything, so i am tellin myself i am ok. yes??? no???? thanks everyone!

I mean its not like extreme pain but it hurts bad ..and another thing Im 165cm and 90kg .. how much can I lose in a month ?

So today is day 7 of my 3 week liquid diet. My meal replacement shakes HAVE to be the SIim Fast shakes per my surgeon's order. The problem is this: I'm already tired of them. I can't imagine what it's going to be like to force these down in 2 weeks if I'm already tired of them now. I must keep going though. If I don't, I will have wasted a week and will have to reschedule my surgery and I'm not doing that. Soooo, I'm just gonna have to choke them down and go on with it. I will say this though-after my surgery is done, I hope I never ever ever see another slimfast!

I’m 3 weeks post op gastric bypass and these past couple of days I have been extremely nauseous. Zofran isnt helping not are those nausea patches they gave me. How did you guys treat nausea post op. Before the operation I’d have ginger ale, and saltines. But obviously those aren’t an option now. i only started the purée food diet a week ago and have actually put myself back on the liquid diet until my appt on the 27th because I keep having complications (inability to tolerate most foods (severe cramping, vomiting and diarrhea). But now with this nausea I’m struggling to even get in a protein drink or my daily liquid intake. Yesterday I had 20 oz liquid. It’s Sunday so my dr isn’t even in the office.

Intermittent Fasting to Healthy Eating - FAIL
AZhiker replied to K Be Good!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IF is a very powerful tool, but please wait until at least 6 months out to start or restart. You've just got to focus on your protein and your volume is so small initially, that it would be impossible to get your nutritional requirements in. Keep it in your pocket as a tool to boost your weight loss if you start stalling or slowing down right before goal. IF helped me get the last 15 pounds off, and now is a tool I use in maintenance. I know it is so hard to go back to regular meals, but you need to do it for now. It's great that you already know what to do - just save it for the future. -
oh now I remember
RJ'S/beginning replied to jatherley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welllllllll! After your surgery you will be on liquids....And protein drinks....That part of the program was really hard for me. I did not eat for 5 1/2 months because of my hospital stay....But now 10 months out I eat what I want in small portions of course......2 to 3 weeks on liquids and you will be ready to start puree food.... It does not feel like a diet to me at all......I am glad it feels this way...I hated dieting!!! That is one of the reasons I failed so many of them.....oops! -
Yes, it is a small tube, probably less than 1/4" in diameter that allows Fluid to drain from in around the surgical site. Not only does it prevent excess fluid, it also can show a leak. My doctor advised me to drink odd colored fluids (no oranges or reds) for the first several days because if there was an internal leak, it would show in the "hand grenade". Ad for pain, I would say no, it is not painful unless it gets pulled on because, in my case, they used a single stitch in my side to attach the tube to the skin so it couldnt be pulled out. It is a little gross because you need to empty abd measure the fluid that is being drained into the pouch. It stinks a little, is a mixture of blood and clear/yellow fluid, and is just overall not pleasant to see or have hanging out of your body. Was it miserable, no, it was fine, but it is what it is..... When it was removed (1 week post op appointment) my Nurse Practitioner just told me to take a quick deep breath in on the count of three and when I did that, she yanked the tube out. Was it painful, not really, was it the weirdest sensation I have ever felt, no doubt! It is a very flexible tube coming out of your body the way you would suck in a wet noodle so try to think how that would feel...very strange. I didn't like it but I am glad I had it for the peace of mind that I could see if I had internal bleeding (more than I should) or a leak. And, to some extent I would think it helped relieve some pressure as well which may or may not have helped with my comfort.
